I love how Earworm's lyric samples actually form a narrative, not just random just picking out the hooks, but finding an actual story. And the images played with the lyrics aren't just the corresponding parts of the video, but often thematically linked. Best example is when the sample from Radioactive of "I'm breathing in the chemicals" plays while on-screen, we see (played in reverse) Jay-Z and Robin Thicke inhaling a cloud of smoke. Most pop anthologies are a nice dance mix. Earworm elevates it to art. AND a nice dance mix.
I couldn't have put it better. I understand some of the complaints but I like it just fine, it's on rotation on my iPhone along with the rest of the USOP series.

Here's how I see this mashup. Earworm picked the best artists of the year. He straight up nailed the selection process. In choosing the songs, he needed songs of a similar nature. He chose music teetering on the edge. A great theme, as that's exactly what is going on with the music business. The independents and the alternatives say, "We'll never be royals" and "Welcome to the new age", while the established acts are going, "You think I'm crazy" and "We ruled the world". This is an age of evolution for music, which will test the mettle of those insane enough to sacrifice something big enough to make something even bigger. To the victors go the spoils. Well done Earworm for capturing this spirit. Notch another cut in your belt.
I just wanna thank you DJ Earworm. I've been following since I wanna say about 2009, and always get exited at the end of the year to hear your United states of pop Mixes. It makes every song that is over played and that I disliked and makes me love them. You truly have a talent.

Undoubtedly, this mashup stands out as the best in a decade, owing to its remarkable fusion of hits. Returning here after 10 years to appreciate this phenomenon. BRA
Honestly, the ending when they had Safe and Sound's instrumental play was awesome. I think there is good music in every year if people try a bit harder than just the top charts.
The fact that Earworm ignored big songs like Harlem shake, what does the fox say, one direction's best song ever, and even the other Bruno mars song Treasure, in order to get safe and sound in his mashup is insane

TheCodewriterX I'm not saying 2013 music was bad, it's probably a good thing that the tempo's and keys of each track were varied, it means the artists are experimenting more than just doing typical EDM dance tracks. But since DJ Earworm never changed the tempo of his mashup to match the different tempo's he made it harder for himself *unlike Pop Danthology his mashup was slightly smoother, especially his 2012 mashup*
I feel like he could have used other songs, but I agree with you that it just didn't sound right I mean the words and how he put it together awesome I liked that but I didn't care for a lot of the songs he used it didn't feel right.

i dont see this mash up the way you're all seeing it. i dont see it as intended to be perfect. i see this mash up as something that sums of 2013. these songs each of them have a meaning for us and to us differently. thats what it is. stop seeing it as this over hyped must be flawless thing and see it as a way to sum up your 2013 and remember it. basically stop hating and just sit back and let each song remind you of well memories :)
Ppl don't know this but Earworm formed me into the person that I am...if it wasn't for having this strange notion and reaction to his 2009 video I wouldn't have said "I don't care what it takes, I'm gonna make one!!!" And four years later I am now I self taught experienced audio and video editor and my eye is a with out a doubt more keen then it would have. I wouldn't be on this bright path if he didn't inspire me to send me on a goal to try replicate and redo what he did. I am now a proud film student and on my way to what I hope to believe will be a long, meaningful career as a filmmaker/screenplay writer/ actor/editor....his mashups formed me and helped me find myself....he's a huge deal to me that I don't think anybody will ever be able to comprehend exactly why. I wait for these mashups all year. They a reminder to me of how I became nothing to an important person in the eyes of myself.
Dammit DJ Earworm. I don't actually like this one, but as always, I think your mixes show the general theme of the year's music - spot on there. Personal preference aside, your mixes are always incredibly interesting, and this one no less than any others. Thanks as always.
Thank god there is no justin bieber song in this awesome mashup! Good work once again DJ Earworm. But i still like more your RUclips Rewind Remix. :)) 2014 !!
For all of you guys wondering why he didn't put in some of the most well-known songs, it's because it may not have worked with the overall context of this smashup… Some songs fit some don't. Just watching enjoy the video
Now, this si coming from someone who has been a fan of DJ Earworm since about 2008, I would have to say the 2013 and 2014 mashups are some of, if not, the best mashups that he's made. Although I have quite a nostalgic attachment to Blame it On The Pop, etc, I personally think that these latest remixes are the best. EOT OUT
I cant believe this was 7 years ago.. I remember when this came out! The thumbnail was a guy in a hall of mirrors. I cant believe all these songs came out that long ago 😭

i think we're all sad to se the years go by so quickly, our years of music slowly drop away, while newer albums and artists take their place. I personally like these because it brings back those days, where we all just sat and listened, and some made us get up and dance, it truly made us feel alive. So through the years, I think its safe to say that I enjoy this, and hope that through different styles of music, different opinions of what sounds good, they stay alive within us. We'll keep the art of music alive, while keeping older styles great in our memories.
Nearing the end of 2022, and this mashup just makes me realize even more how much I miss Avicii.

Thank you DJ worm. This brought back memories of the best year of my life 2013.
Same
Otro año mas, y otro exitazo mas! ES EL MEJOR DE TODOS DIOS MIO!
2009 is, and will forever be, the best.
I agree 2009 is amazing. For me though it's a toss up between 08 and 09. That undertone of Viva La Vida that 08 has is amazing.
Sorkijan I think it's between 2007 and 2009 for me.
Ahhhh yes, SO GOOD!!!!!!!
Because he had better material to work with...
To me its between 2011 and 2013.
i dont see this mash up the way you're all seeing it. i dont see it as intended to be perfect. i see this mash up as something that sums of 2013. these songs each of them have a meaning for us and to us differently. thats what it is. stop seeing it as this over hyped must be flawless thing and see it as a way to sum up your 2013 and remember it. basically stop hating and just sit back and let each song remind you of well memories :)
Could of done without the image of 4:59...but other than that... brilliant... especially the Miley into Rihanna part... chills...
I wouldn't be on this bright path if he
didn't inspire me to send me on a goal to try replicate and redo what he did.
2013 was such a good year. Wish I could go back and feel all that again.
I hear ya. Me too.
What a talent!
der 2012er ist besser ;D
True
ironically enough, the words of this song sound more like 2021 then I ever would of believed before. Let's keep going people.
Can our music go back to 2009... That was a great year.
2009 music was muchhh betterrrr
2013 had to be my favorite year for music.
And a good year in general, listening to this brings me back.
*man, three years goes by fast*
memes YEP. I LOVE THIS SONGS!!!!!
Why have I not seen you before? F****** AMAZING
I look forward to these every year
yeah- United State of Pop 2009 is still my favorite, most of the songs sounded the same this year
2009 is unbeatable, that sounds like one original amazing song (:
I love all years or remixology! This has become my favorite channel on RUclips!
this was alright, just seemed like it didn't flow too well
2020... man how time has flown by... i’m 19 now...
EOT OUT
2009 was still your best in my opinion
Agreed. That song is great.
MOTHER OF MASHUPS O____________O
Best mashup'er since the world was born!
yeah and very very very cooollllllllllllllllll
LIKE IT
I miss this era. :(
2022 here, crazy how some of these songs came out the same year
This is not better than Pop Danthology 2013. THEY'RE DIFFERENT. I love both. ♥
I cant believe this was 7 years ago.. I remember when this came out! The thumbnail was a guy in a hall of mirrors.
I cant believe all these songs came out that long ago 😭
Ooooooohhhh... (trouble, trouble, trouble)
I see it all, I see it now (ooooooohhhh...) trouble, trouble
There was a time
I raise my flags, don my clothes, never asking why
We rule the world
I tried carrying the weight of the world, no one could deny
Those days are gone
Waking up to ash and dust, we're ashes on the ground
I still hear the songs
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes, well that's fine by me
So wake me up when it's all over (don't you worry, don't you worry child)
When I'm wiser and I'm older (see Heaven's got a prayer for you)
All this time I was finding myself and I
didn't know I was lost
And we'll never be royals (royals)
And we can't stop... trouble, trouble
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age
Let me be your ruler (ruler)
And we won't stop... guess I shouldn't start a war
You think I'm crazy, yeah you think I'm crazy
Let me live that fantasy
Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
They tell me I'm too young to understand
Mmm... too young, too dumb to realize
Round and around and around and around we go
It's a revolution, I suppose
Tell me now, tell me now, tell me now you know
Woah
And we'll never be royals (royals)
And we can't stop... trouble, trouble
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age
Let me be your ruler (ruler)
And we won't stop... guess I shouldn't start a war
You think I'm crazy, yeah you think I'm crazy
Let me live that fantasy
Baby you a song, you make me wanna roll my windows down, and cruise
Breathing in the chemicals (ooooooooooohhhh...)
My friends and I, we've cracked the code (just crack the code)
In a torn up town, (in a torn up town), we're fine with this
I figured it out, they watching us
You were right, no more pretending, all eyes on us
And we don't mind all the watchin'
It's our party, we can do what we want to, let's go
It's our song, sing this song and it goes like
Ooooooohhhh... (and we can't stop... trouble, trouble)
Ooooooohhhh... (this is my kingdom, this is my party, this is my kingdom)
This is our house, this is our rules
Let me be your ruler (ruler)
And we won't stop... guess I shouldn't start a war
You think I'm crazy, yeah you think I'm crazy
Let me live that fantasy
Woooooh oh (oooooooooooohhh)
Woooooh oh (oooooooooooohhh)
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Woooooh oh (oooooooooooohhh)
Woooooh oh (oooooooooooohhh) guess I shouldn't start a war
You think I'm crazy, yeah you think I'm crazy
Let me live that fantasy
[piano solo]
Let me show you a few things (don't you worry, don't you worry child)
Show you a few things (oooohhh... yeah)
Didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
Let me show you a few things (and we can't stop)
Show you a few things (oooohhh...) (trouble, trouble) (yeah)
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Aaaaaaaahhh... (only got twenty dollars in my pocket, yeah)
Aaaaaaaahhh... (twenty dollars in my pocket) aaah (yeah)
Aaaaahhh... no more counting dollars, guess I shouldn't start a war
You think I'm crazy, yeah you think I'm crazy
Let me live that fantasy
U-S-P-O-P
Izainal Thanks for the lyrics!
awesome, thank you!
i think we're all sad to se the years go by so quickly, our years of music slowly drop away, while newer albums and artists take their place.
THIS IS AMAZING, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. CANT WAIT FOR 2014 :).
I watch this like every night.
This is awesome! I kind of liked 2009 and 2012 better...
its because there was better pop music those years.
2013 was a good year for music indeed
Finally waited all year!! :D
This sounded more like 2009 mashup..still beast! :D
this brings me back so much memories... 2013 probably was the best year of my life. #letsgobacktoitplease
Can I come with you? I miss it so much
Still here for it in 2021. Don’t stop Dj Earworm!
Hi! I'm from 2020. When I hear this mashup I always remember Avicii 😭😭😭
R.I.P Avicii ❤️
2019 anyone.. waiting for this year mashup
It's become a tradition at this point
It's out now
@@4everlivin99 thanks brother
2009 is the best DJ Earworm remix, but only because of Flipnote Hatena on the DSi :,)
+JoJoXGamer 2010 was a great year also.
Michael Cupertino I agree
+JoJoXGamer 2008 remix says hi
good times man
OMG I miss Flipnote Antenna sooooo much :,(
When the mashups started getting slower 😿
+Natallz14 It's not getting slower, these songs are just slower and you just have to search for the fast ones.
I much prefer them tbh.
+Natallz14 Speed up to 1.25, you are welcome.
Yeah the last upbeat one was 2012!!!! Every year I look forward to upbeat ones then let the slow ones grow on me...
+Bonnie Bunny 1.25 speed is the only way I can listen to any of them past 2012.
Still can't beat 2009 though!
indeed
2012 do it! I think
True, true.
2009 was seriously the best
Anyone else noticed that Katy Perry is in every Mashup video? :)
yup, 2008-2014 O.o hahaha she rocks
Layla Aref Miley cyrus too
Layla Aref taylor isnt in 2008 and 2011
Krause Allen marry xmas
So is Rihanna
2013 wasn't a year, it was an era.
This one was really pretty good. 2014 is a let down
i think so too. 2014's of DJ Earworm and Pop Danthology mashups let me down.
listen to 2013 is better imho.
duwe kapak Its not about the mashup. its about the music
2014 music in general is a let down. Earworm did a good job making 14's mashup sound... Tolerable...
Personally, I love 2014 mashup.
DJ Quackie Me too
