  • We are road tripping the Kenai Peninsula in our 2013 Ford Transit Connect micro camper van! We start the day by visiting Hope, the first gold rush town in Alaska. After a quick visit we make our way to the town of Whittier, Alaska. We drive through the longest highway tunnel in North America, the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, to get to the town. We hike the Portage Pass Trail and take a cold swim next to a glacier! We then explored the town and saw the building where most of the residents live. Tomorrow we leave the Kenai Peninsula and start exploring the interior of Alaska!

    🤜🤛 proud of Heather for taking that dip. I thought you were going in to touch the chunk of ice.
    Also how cool and odd to live in one building. I mean great during winter so you don't have to go out and get stuff. But I might feel claustrophobic. I think if I lived in Alaska I'd want to live on a frontier and not in a town.
    Safe travels y'all 💕

      No, but Mike touched the chunk of ice! He actually sat on it haha I am not that brave 🥶You are right! The building would be great for winter, there are even tunnels underground that connect it to the school building! Thank you so much for watching, we really do appreciate it 😊

    It’s great you had such good weather to visit Whittier! It’s so funny to me the Tiktoker you mentioned, who made Whittier more well known outside AK, was one of my best friends in High School! Whittier is an amazing place! If you ever go back during the summer they have a really cute 4th of July parade!

    Great video. Mike was very brave with the insect flying around in front of him at the start of the video 😆.
    The scenery is amazing! Thank you for sharing.
    Now down to the important question….. if
    You had to choose (like we are going to have to) would you do Route 66 or the Pacific Highway? You did such a fantastic job at showcasing both and I would really appreciate your thoughts….
    Unfortunately Alaska is out 😢

    • @mikeandheather
      @mikeandheather  Год назад +1

      You are too funny! When I (Heather) was editing I was thinking the same thing about the bug, he must not have seen it since it was attacking me 😂
      We often talk/reminisce about our travels to each other, especially on really long drives with no cell service and spotty radio like on the Alaska Highway. We continue to say how much we would love to do Route 66 again. So if we had to pick between the Pacific Highway and Route 66, we would pick the Mother Road! The Pacific Highway is absolutely beautiful and there are a lot of great things to do so it is not a bad choice at all, we really loved traveling the coast! But the charm of Route 66, along with the wide variety of things to do and the amazing people make it a more meaningful trip in our opinion! (and you get a really cool certificate after completing it haha)
      Plus it ends in California so you still get a taste of the Pacific Coast when you put your feet in the water like you are meant to do after you finish the trip. Either way you will have a fantastic time!
      Thank you so much for the kind words and your continued support, it really does mean a lot to us and we are happy to have you along with us on our journey 😊

      @@mikeandheather thank you for your thoughts.
      Upper Management (wife) and I have significant birthdays next year and we are thinking of coming over.
      I’m treating it like a potentially once in a lifetime opportunity and want to see as many places as I can - what is more American 🇺🇸 than Route 66…. Watch out the Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 are coming….. 🤣
