Thank you so much for this tutorial. Recently picked up a 7wt for when a buddy and I can get some days off to target Striped Bass. I came back to this tutorial to ensure a strong connection. Thanks a bunch! You guys have always my go to for fly fishing knowledge ever since I started last year.
Bought my son a Redington Path for Christmas. It came with a leader nail knotted to the line and the leader was frayed. Had to cut the leader. This was perfect for tying in a loop in the fly line. Thanks! You guys are awesome!
Nice tip Brian... I lost the largest fish of my fly fishing life when my connection between the backing and my fly line broke... Sad, embarrassing, still cry about it daily almost two years later... Now I will be following your advice... Thanks again.
Hi Brian I feel same way Bob popovics Taught me that when I first started fly fishing don't want to say how long ago that was haha you guys are awesome 🎣🎣
Great tutorial. Love the idea of using mono to create the loop knot at the end of the flyline to add your leader to. If using a 9wt or 11wt, what size mono should be used? Thanks.
Thanks for checking with us and thanks for watching. If you could contact Brian directly through the shop, he'll be happy to help. E-mail him or call him and he'll get you taken care of.
No not at all. This is for the back end of the fly line ONLY.....so that it can be looped onto the backing with a bimini in the backing. Call or e-mail Brian at the shop if any further questions. He's always happy to help. Thanks.
Great video but I lost you on the second knot where you come back over. I watched several times. The clearness of the Maxima was where I got lost. I wonder if this knot could be shown using something like Amnesia so I could track the tying process better.
So do you think it’s better just to cut the loop off of the leader and attach it with a nail knot ? Almost all the leaders have loops in them nowadays.
This is for the end of the fly line....to attach to the backing. You should NEVER do this on the front of the line. Any further questions, please contact Brian directly through the shop. You can e-mail him or call him. Thanks.
Hi Brian, can this be used to substitute a welded loop on the front end of the fly line for the leader? My Rio Midge Tip loop has freyed. Excellent videos as always! Many Thanks
I am using an old fly line handed down to me that has a metal eye at the end. How should I go about attaching a leader without a loop-to-loop connection?
Would this be ok for attaching fly line to line backing if the fly line you have doesnt come with a loop? Just makong sure im understanding the point of the video correctly.
@@Madriveroutfitters Ty. Replacing ALL my fly gear that was lost in a fire back in 2019. Just not getting to the point where I can and the fly line I bought doesnt have welded loops (on a bit of a budget lol). I was able to find a pflueger 1595 at a decent price on ebay that was new old stock. Its one of the reels I had before (first reel I ever had my grandma bought for me as a birthday present) so was happy to get another one. Now Im on the hunt for a 2pc 9' rod. Not a fan of the 3 or 4 pc rods. May end up building one.
Greetings. Besides the butt section of a leader, has the general Butt Section gone the way of the Dodo? I don't see it in any of your videos. I was taught, 40-years ago, to put a butt section between my line and leader. Is this because of the Loop systems which many have now?
Hello sir 🙏 I'm a beginner forfly fishing & my budget was low. I've purchased a fly line & I found out there isn't any loop nor a sticker which says "this end to a reel". I am so worried. Can you help me on this issue sir 🙏

What about melting line with shrink tubing and hair straighteners? Looks like it makes factory loop
Not sure about that. Never tried as this method works perfectly and is easy to do.

Nice to see the first snell knot my father taught me when i was a children, I can Do it even in total darkness,,thankyou!,....
Cool, thanks for watching.
If you were a boy scout you will recognize this is the same knot for whip finishing the end of your cotton rope keeping it from fraying.
True statement. Or a girl scout.....we like to be inclusive.
Could you use a nail knot tool for this just to make it easier?
No, you can't get the grip and placement with any of the tools out there.
