I thought I was alone in my love of Chet Baker Sings, my rock friends all look at me strangely when I mention him. Then
I saw others made comments about it in their reviews to other ‘records I listen to’. He had a superb voice, all that
talent and one of the best trumpet players ever. When I listen to his music I can’t help but think of his tragic end.
BTW you look amazing and a welcome change to the other old guys doing such collections.

K-Tel records were an iconic part of 70's pop culture. I love that one of your top-played records is one of those records. Also, that Duran Duran cover features art from iconic 80's artist Patrick Nagel. It's a shame that he died so young. Beautiful art!

Your story about never being able to go back to that Red Pinto with your Mom made me actually cry as it was SOOO bittersweet and your quiet emotions said SO much. I was truly touched, and for what it's worth, I will honestly NEVER forget your story --- truly.
In reference to your story, below is one of my favorite quotes that always echoes inside me when I think about memories of my own Mom and others I've loved & lost in this lifetime & it goes:
" You Know That Place Between Asleep and Awake, the Place Where You Can still Remember Dreaming?? --- That's Where I'll Always Love You --- That's Where I'll Be Waiting ".
I LOVE that quote --- and I am sure that your Mom is in THAT place loving you as much as ever and is always there waiting for you with a BIG smile in that Red Pinto and with GoldRush 79 Volume One blasting on the 8 track :) --- Thank you SO much again for sharing your touching story and may God Bless you & yours always !!

Having never heard it (except for Time of the season) i recently came across a brand new reissue from Varese Sarabande Records (2015) i purchased for only $15. I went home and put it on my turntable and have not taken it off for 2 months now. I absolutely love it! I can see why it is one of your most listened to records . Hey Melinda, such a wonderfully personal video. Our favourite albums evoke unique memories that only we hold personally. ❤
Your story about "Gold Rush '79" is so bittersweet. The songs on that LP are tied to your experiences with your dear Mum and her red Pinto, which was clearly a significant happy place for you. 😊 Those songs on that cartridge are permanently etched in your DNA. I could see on your face what those moments mean to you. ❤❤ Funny you mentioned the Baby's as I recently bought 2 used Babys LP's including "Broken Heart" which features "Isn't It Time". I know what you mean about John Waite's voice in that moment. 😊 Some other nice choices. The Zombies album was an obvious one though I'm surprised that your Harry Styles or a Gil Evans didn't make the cut.
In my humble opinion, some of your best videos are when you speak from the heart. I suspect that ironically, maybe they're also maybe your most difficult to make in a way? Does that sound accurate? In any case your beautiful smile pushes through because ultimately the music ties all those wonderful times together. Speaking from experience I can relate to this. Music is The Doctor. 😊😊 As always love your work. Take care Melinda. Cheers ❤❤😊😊

I just got that Blue Note Chet Baker Sings and it sounds sooooo clean and crisp! Thanks for sharing your favorite records and drawing attention to that fact that vinyl collecting is not just about what sounds best or is the most sought after record but it's also largely about nostalgia. A few of my favorites are very nice sounding reissues of 90s albums I listened to in Junior High/HS including Little Earthquakes, Core, Absolute Torch and Twang (original 89 pressing), Formica Blues. Great list. Very nice to hear your memories of your mom with music. I also have childhood memories listening to music with my parents.
With my dad it was with a lot of Cassettes in my dad's car (he died more than 20 years ago, we are old now). I remember he had two shoe boxes full of cassettes under the driver's seat, many white shell and some 8-Track cartridges, with albums from The Rolling Stones ("Sticky Fingers", "Let It Bleed", "Hot Rocks"), Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Santana, KISS, ZZ Top, Rainbow, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, James Brown, and some other Classic Rock stuff like that.
With my mom it was with Vinyls, CDs, Videos and VHS movies of bands and concerts like Woodstock 1969 and 1994, Monterey Pop Festival, Live Aids, The Wall (Pink Floyd), The Song Remains The Same (Led Zeppelin), Tommy and Quadrophenia (The Who), Casey Kasem's Rock n' Roll Goldmine series, etc, and a lot of The Beatles. Also with her I used to listen to Fleetwood Mac, Heart, The Mamas & the Papas, ABBA, The Monkees, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, Queen, Bee Gees, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Rush, Pink Floyd, Yes, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Frank Zappa, CSN&Y, David Bowie, Iggy Pop / The Stooges, The Velvet Underground / Lou Reed, T.Rex, War, Kool & The Gang, Earth Wind & Fire, Neil Diamond, Dire Straits, Supertramp, Journey, Carole King, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, MC5, early Ramones, The Clash, Blondie, Patti Smith, Talking Heads and The Cars.

First time viewer here Melinda. Loved your video, both style and content!
The story of your childhood, your mon, the red Pinto . . . . yes, music really brings us back in time where we can really FEEL the music. I too have so many early memories that involve music. It's a great feeling when you hear a song and can remember back to exactly where you were, or the first time you heard a song, or can recall your age or where you lived, etc.. Music helps us connect to our past and can bring us great joy, even when those times were not joyful, but the music helped us get through!

Red Pinto? My mother had a Red Ford Pinto with black interior which we used to get around in! She loved that little Buggy. What we found out later is the car had a gas tank flaw. A lot of them would explode on impact. We were lucky that we had no clue or didn’t care at the time. Isn’t that crazy? I’m glad you survived, too!

I remember she drove me to Madison Wisconsin to see the Capital building for the first time. It’s about a 100 miles west. That car was reliable overall from what I remember. She loved that car because it was freedom. We used it up over 5 years driving every where back then.

Melinda, you should never apologise for showing a K-Tel release on your videos.
Collecting records isn't just about the sound quality of the vinyl, the aesthetics of the sleeve, the feeling of holding a record in your hand. A big part of collecting records for me is the memories that they can evoke. You clearly have good memories of your mum and your childhood through the lens of Gold Rush 79 and it shines through in your video. Thank you for putting that in there.
I, too, did something similar in one of my very early attempts at a vinyl video during the 2020 lockdown. I hope you don't mind, but I will leave a link here for anyone who may want to watch. Skip to the 16 minute mark to see my favourite record from my entire collection (and my lockdown hair!). And it certainly isn't my favourite record for the music!

My favorite music comes from back then, even though I don't remember much of it from that time. I just don't think the good stuff made it onto the radio in my small town, you know? We didn't even figure out how to get channel 18 (MTV) on the TV until mid-1985 if I remember correctly, as it only had buttons for 2-13 on the front. I want to cogratulate you on your excellent presentation. I enjoyed your relaxed stle of presenting. You are very clear in your presentation and you speak with confidence. I didn't have to backtrack and figure out, "Now what did the person say?"Don't feel ashamed about the Ktel record. A good record is a good record. And 'Heart of Glass' was a great song as well as the other songs. I remember them well. It was a great time for radio. And I'm old enough, I'm afraid, to remember those Pintoes. The Willie Nelson album was my best college friend's favorite. He used to play it when we went off campus in his car. I have or had the Linda Ronstadt album. I recently gave it to my 24-25 year-old niece. I nearly dropped to the floor when you pulled out Odessey and Oracle from the Zombies, one of my favorie groups behind The Beatles. I don't have it and must get it. I only have their Greatest Hits or whatever it is called. The only Mobile Fidelity record I have is of the Beatles's Abbey Road. I got it brand new and only played it a few times and recorded onto cassette so I wouldn't wear it down. I only had so much time and so much money in college and graduate school. Ineed to get back to listening more if I can. I'm the kind of person who likes to sit down and do nothing but give my full-devoted attention to the music when I'm listening, so it can be hard to work in the time.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad to hear from someone that remembers the Ford Pinto and these terrific albums. ♥️ I have a soft spot for 70's rock radio.
I love sitting down and giving my full attention to my records as well. I do play my more common records when I'm cleaning the house and things like that. Thank you and enjoy your weekend.

I listen to Van Halen often but everyone already knows that. Lol. I wanted to show records I listen to just as often that would be a surprise. Thank you and take care.

Hey uptown girl! Yeah, those are some great titles. And yes, I have several of the Duran Duran albums and they are great. Of course I love dire straits! I’m like your husband haven’t been able to get into Bob Dylan except for his songwriting! If you love Linda Ronstadt, you have to check out Karla Boniff! She actually wrote many of Linda Ronstadt’s biggest hits! I have all of her albums, and they are heavenly! Great video, Melinda🎉

Agree re Karla Bonoff ! Her first Self Titled is just fantastic , a very worn cover when it came into my possession, I can see why .

@@m.j.l.abulle9107 Wild Heart of the young is still such a favorite! I think what I like so much about her music is she is very strong, but shows her weakness as well, which makes her very appealing! None of that modern girl empowerment crap! She is feminine and at times innocent and that’s what is missing definitely in the dating pool These days!

I'm familiar with the Karla Boniff song "Personally." I have an old Casey Kasem American Top 40 box set with that song on it. ♥️🤗 Good eye on noticing the Uptown Girl shirt. Thank you and have a great weekend.

@@MelindaMurphy another artist, you should check out is Lani Hall! She’s married to Herb Alpert! She was the singer for Brazil 66 and then went on to a solo career! She has some great albums, but my favorite one is called Blush! You would love it 🥰
