Chris, I’m always amazed with your videos and anecdotes about your favorite records and the shows you’ve seen. I know you have worked in the Music Business in a certain capacity; I did as well, probably in a much lower status than you, but no matter. I’m very touched by your stories about your brother and your subsequent work in the mental health care arena. As someone who has battled Anxiety and depression my entire adult life, it is amazing how many people suffer from it. I applaud your efforts to shine a light on this issue. I don’t want to barge in on a very personal situation, but I gathered you lost your brother Lane in tragic circumstances. As someone who has lost two siblings over the last few years, I have an idea how difficult it must be, and still is. Grief is never a linear process. Kudos to you and your channel. I love almost all the bands and artists you talk about. As we both grew up in the CD age along with vinyl, it hurts to think about all the vinyl I got rid of…ugh! However I’m building my vinyl collection up again. It’s a joy, though I can never part with my CD’s.😂 Anyway, I love your thoughtful and introspective comments on music and life. Take care and keep up the great work and all the best in your work and your channel. You are a truly kind soul…Bruce
Chris - thank you for sharing your love of music. Music really ties us to our memories. My brothers and I grew up listening to so many different bands- tons of memories for sure. I’m not a huge Bruce fan but my roommate played the hell out of The River - I love The Ties That Bind! I’m also a big Rockpile - Nick Lowe (saw the picture on your RUclips page) fan as well. Take care my friend. Thank you again for sharing. 😊
Oh, man. I *almost* lost my brother to cancer; when he was in treatment & whichever random song hit me it would send me reeling... I'm terribly sorry that you hafta deal with that permanently. *May the wind take your troubles away.* 💜
Great list! I'm going to try out some of these. Billy Joel story brought back similar memories. Wife and I were on vacation in London in May 1990. Got on the tube to go somewhere and were sitting by a couple on their way to Billy Joel concert. We followed them and scalped tickets. Greetings, sir, great thread idea and a great video. I did my list along with my co-host Dawn from @TooHipChicks on our most recent Finding Your Music Mojo livestream - we had a blast doing it! And you can bet our lists are way different than anyone else, given that we both gravitate more pop than classic rock. But we had a few interesting items!
Great varied list. Here’s my list. I’m lazy so just titles: Rubber soul, Axis bold as love, Led Zeppelin #1, CSN, HUMAN TOUCH,summerteeth, If I could only remember my name, Roxy Music#1, Yes album,Beggars Banquet,Sailing Shoes. Bonus discs: Hiway 61,CTA, THE BAND.

I saw this post last week before it became a "thing," but I didn't comment here. This struck me as a subject that may be uniquely suited to collectors, so I appreciated the concept immediately. We have our favorites, we have the works we consider to be the most towering achievements (which by nature are not necessarily ones you can just put on over and over again because they can be demanding), and we have our reliable standbys that may or may not be "great" records, but they are dear old friends. So, in the spirit in which you offered your list, I'll put forward these personal selections (in the random order they occurred to me): 1) Stevie Wonder -- "Innervisions"' 2) Joni Mitchell -- "Hissing of Summer Lawns" (an underappreciated cinematic anthology of short stories about women's lives) 3) Bill Evans -- "At Shelly's Manne-Hole" 4) Warren Zevon -- "Excitable Boy" 5) Elvis Costello -- "Armed Forces" 6) Aretha Franklin -- "Spirit In the Dark" 7) Talking Heads -- "More Songs About Buildings and Food" 8) Al Green -- "Call Me" 9) Isaac Hayes -- "Hot Buttered Soul" 10) Steely Dan -- "Katy Lied"
I'll be honest, I don't sub to very many VC channels these days simply because there are just so many and it's impossible to keep up. I am so glad I clicked on this video and gave it a watch. Your tastes, as well as the memories you shared of your brother really connected with me. Can't wait to dig into a few more of your videos and get to know you a little better through them. Have a great day! Billy-
I did a video on this thread as well, enjoyed this idea and your selections. You could really pick any (or most) of TVZs records. They corner such a specific and heavy-duty place in my heart. So glad to own them.
Anything by Black Sabbath, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden. Old Scorpions. All great Bands in which all their albums in their first ten years are amazing on vinyl. So nostalgic. All these bands had energy, imagination and were extremely good at their instruments. Rush too! One has to have the first 9 Rush albums on vinyl. Amazing band! Billy Joels "The Stranger" album was I think the first vinyl record I ever listened to as a kid back in the 80's. Wonderful record. Probably the best!
Great idea- almost like the difference between comfort foods versus your favorite meals. My choices (off the top of my head): Smile by The Jayhawks; Reckoning by REM; Starfish by The Church; The Reluctant Graveyard by Jeremy Messersmith; Revolver by The Beatles; If You Can Believe Your Ears by The Mamas and Papas; Been Around by A Girl Called Eddy; Mr Tambourine Man by The Byrds; Land of Dreams by Randy Newman; Can’t Buy a Thrill by Steely Dan. Bonus: Ram by Paul & Linda McCartney
Hi Chris, nice selection. Lot of great albums. I'm not a Rolling Stones fan though the Let It Bleed album is probably my fav Stones record. Never heard of Uncle Tupelo before which picked my curiosity, so i looked up for the album on the Internet, and now i know where the name of your channel comes from 😉. Take care, cheers from Canada
Nice video and great idea, our music really is the soundtrack of our lives, I had a roommate who liked the Moody Blues, Dylan and Cat Stevens all who I kinda scoffed at back then. Now I listen to all 3. Cheers from Canada.
Excellent video. What a great idea. Love your choices. I need to check out Joan Shelley more. Sound Of Lies really takes me back. I saw them live and would see Gary Louris out and about in MPLS so many times in that era. More often than friends sometimes at shows. You’ve inspired me to do a video as well.
Great video, you love all sorts of music which is cool to see. Abbey Road is my all-time favourite album but the White album is great too. Awesome story about you seeing Billy Joel in concert, I’m also sorry to hear about your brother. Take care from Adam in the UK!☮️❤️
Hi Chris, I absolutely love your picks and what a wonderful Mother to pick up The River for you! I saw Bruce in Munich last Sunday he was superb! Let it Bleed, brilliant, Gimme Shelter my favourite ever Stones track. The White album just brilliant. This is a good thread, I’ll post my top 10 later tonight, UK time. Well done Chris, I have subbed. Mike
Chris awesome video which became a thread this was very inspiring especially the Sam Cooke pick he definitely had one of the greatest voices in music. My grandmother educated me on his beginnings and how he became a successful solo artist . Chris i really enjoyed it have a great week.
Some great selections . Trace , Sound of lies , Anodyne are all fantastic albums . I know you like the Pernice Brothers “ overcome by Happiness” album , has just been released on Vinyl ( 25th anniversary)
Great video. I adore 'The River' (oh man, 'The Price You Pay') and that Townes album is terrific. And I agree that Sam Cooke is right up there. I discovered your channel with the help of Norman Maslov, after I copied his version of your (this) video. Subscribed. 👍 I was at the Saturday Hyde Park gig too. Outstanding.
Have you listened to John Martyn ,Bless the weather, Solid Air and Grace and Danger. Very sorry for your loss,we all suffer from loss. THANKS FOR THE VID.
Thanks for this, some interesting things for me to check out. FWIW, here's my ten - in no particular order: Glenn Gould - Bach Partitas Neil Young - After the Goldrush Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express REM - Life’s Rich Pageant Miles Davis - Porgy and Bess Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always New Order - Technique Tom Waits - Rain Dogs The Clash - London Calling
I can see listening to that selection quite a bit 🤓have you ever heard that version of the white album where that dude has a all of his copies all playing at once, it’s wild ..cheers
My son and I played that Jayhawks in the car all the time when it came out. We loved Poor Little Fish 🐠 I gotta record a video response to this one Fun video ✌🏼
Cincy is a short drive from where I live so over the years I've seen great shows at Bogarts, Southgate House, Sudsy's etc...I would like to think that I crossed paths with Lane at some point. Love hearing about the musical ties that bind...compelling stuff.
I just came here from Mr. Maslov‘s video and think that your list is also great. I am also of the opinion that Billy Joel is an incredible songwriter. Here is my list: Sgt. Pepper‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Pet Sounds, Who‘s Next, Wish You Were Here, The Stranger, Aja, So, Darkness On The Edge Of Town, Let It Bleed, Synchronicity Honorable mention: Hounds Of Love
Well you have started something here!! My most played albums are listed below as I am in the UK some titles will be not well known in the states!! John Barry - On her majesty's secret service soundtrack! Stranglers - Rattus Norvegicus! Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak! 10cc - Sheet music Blue oyster cult - Fire of unknown origin! Icicle works - Icicle works Bill Nelsons Red noise - Sound on sound! Wall of voodoo - Call of the west! Stranglers - Black and white! Sex pistols - Never mind the! And an honourable mention The Sound - From the lions mouth!! Check these albums out! Take care all of you!!
@@TheLongCut1 I am one of your new subscribers and a quick word about loss I was caring for my Mom who had Alzheimer's and mobility issues I lost her recently the worst thing was she didn't know who I was at the end but her sense of humour remained I said it's me Ian she looked and said you're old!! Made me smile!! Loss is personal to everybody people deal with it differently but it's always good to talk about it!! I have been collecting music for a long time at 63 I look at the collection and think wow!!
Plenty of great albums in your list. It is funny how the best and most listened to aren’t the same thing. My most listened to Stones albums: Black and Blue, and Some Girls-not their best but the vine works for me! Same with the Clash-I turn to Sandinista most often, perhaps because it is so messy!
SUB'ed - Mazzy said to come by and I thought I should 1st Look at how you put these together verses, Mazzy. I like Mazzy but he's like the Records I GO to him even if he's not my Favorite, but definitely worth listening to.... by the way I have no FAVORITE (aside of Rachel's Ghost) to any particular Channel ;)
Let it Bleed... no arguments there. White Album is a bit messed up for me. I want to take out Revolution 9 and cut in Hey Jude. Then, I may go there more often. Strong sides 1 & 2 for sure. Brian Ebstein's absence is really felt for me. Nerve calming? I may reach for the mid-1960 Tijuana Brass. Record my brother introduced me to: Concert for Bangladesh. I probably listen to All Things Must Pass tracks more. The River is not so much of a mess for me. The opening two tracks just have a 'sound' that I don't know the E Street Band ever got back again. It repeats again on the first two tracks of sides 2 & 3. This was out at the peak of the Album Era, when putting out a double album meant something (we could think of Elton John). Billy Joel is an amazing artist. River of Dreams is a favorite. But The Stranger was HUGE.
Here’s my list of 10 plus two that are moving up fast: Dire Straits-Communique; the Police Zenyatta Mondatta; Elton John- Captain Fantastic; Lou Reed-Rock n Roll Animal; the Zombies-Odessey and Oracle; Bob Dylan-Slow Train Coming; Prefab Sprout-Steve McQueen aka Two Wheels Good; Donald Fagen- Nightfly; Rolling Stones-Black and Blue; Can-Tago Mago; moving up quickly Radiohead-In Rainbows and Air-Moon Safari.
Alright you made me think about it here goes. Im not gonna number them because these are all heavy hitters for me. Yes - Close to the Edge John Barry - On Her Majesty’s Secret Service soundtrack. I love his Bond soundtracks but this one is just amazing. The Beatles - white lp. The Beatles - with the Beatles Paul McCartney- Ram The Who - Quadrophenia Pink Floyd - Animals Jimi Hendrix 3 lp BBC collection. Jimi and the experience on fire. Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet but it could have been let it bleed or exile just as easily. Velvet Underground 1969 lp. It should have been their crowning achievement. Bonus : Echo and the Bunnymen -Heaven up Here ,the 2 nd greatest band from Liverpool Doors LA Woman. Gee barely scratched the surface but these would all be desert island discs
NICE! - I don't know if you invented this, but it's NEW TO ME and Unique. It has a problem with doing this like Mazzy does with 'WACKY STUFF a MOLE," but it is Different and it's concept is refreshing :) GOOD JOB! - m. : )
I knew your brother and we hung out quite a bit when I lived in Chicago 20 years ago. Lane was instrumental in helping me get shows for bands I promoted, and we were best of friends for several years. I had last texted him just a month before he died, and I never imagined that this happened. What's really odd is that I was just talking about him today. When your video randomly popped up on my playlist, and you started describing Lane's music taste, I knew you were talking about Lane. I never knew over the past two years, nor imagined, that this happened. Loved your brother, man - he was a great guy. I hope he's at peace. Feel free to drop me a line if you want to talk - I am so heartbroken over this.
Isn't is strange that our most listened to albums aren't necessarily our favourites. I wonder why we "save" our favourites and don't listen to them as much as others? 🤔
My friend Lisa is the booking agent for Billy Joel and Rod Stewart. Lane relentlessly busted my balls because she got me a free ticket to see Rod with Cyndi Lauper opening at MSG in 2018.
@@TheLongCut1 He thought modern day Rob was garbage. I guess your mim had the Rod Sings classic rock CD and would play it when he visited. Rod did z my play any of that material at the show I saw. He did Do Ys Think I’m Sexy, which admittedly isn’t my favorite. But he also did Stay With Me. It was great. I went for free, but would pay to see him again.
I suggest you read the POST over at MAZZY as I left an idea there that would do you more good than him since he has a schstick (sp) already established (and he never listens to me anyway!) ;) lol

And an honourable mention The Sound - From the lions mouth!! Check these albums out!
Take care all of you!!
So much in here that’s new to me. Will take a look at these!
Very moving video. I love many of your top 10 most listened to LPs.
Thank you for the kind words!
Yeah, that distinction occurred to me which led me to doing this video. A lot of these records are still near the top of my all-time list :).
Thank you!
River is third fav E street then Darkness and the The River Sherry Darling
Very cool and diverse list! Hope you’re well, Ash!
@@TheLongCut1 Congrats on starting off such a great thread! 👍✌️❤️
Alright you made me think about it here goes.
Im not gonna number them because these are all heavy hitters for me.
Yes - Close to the Edge
John Barry - On Her Majesty’s Secret Service soundtrack. I love his Bond soundtracks but this one is just amazing.
The Beatles - white lp.
The Beatles - with the Beatles
Paul McCartney- Ram
The Who - Quadrophenia
Pink Floyd - Animals
Jimi Hendrix 3 lp BBC collection. Jimi and the experience on fire.
Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet but it could have been let it bleed or exile just as easily.
Velvet Underground 1969 lp. It should have been their crowning achievement.
Bonus : Echo and the Bunnymen -Heaven up Here ,the 2 nd greatest band from Liverpool
Doors LA Woman.
Gee barely scratched the surface but these would all be desert island discs
Great list!
NICE! - I don't know if you invented this, but it's NEW TO ME and Unique. It has a problem with doing this like Mazzy does with 'WACKY STUFF a MOLE," but it is Different and it's concept is refreshing :)
GOOD JOB! - m. : )
Thank you!
52 nd st. Was 👍🏿
I knew your brother and we hung out quite a bit when I lived in Chicago 20 years ago.
Thank you for the note, Chris. I really appreciate it. Would love to hear more stories about your times with Lane. I will reach out.
Cool video Chris, you've really started something with this. Have subbed and will try and do a response. Cheers, James (UK)
Thanks a lot, James!
Like comfort food.i do the same but not albums singles
I’m a therapist look forward to your mental health series!
Isn't is strange that our most listened to albums aren't necessarily our favourites.
I wonder why we "save" our favourites and don't listen to them as much as others? 🤔
It’s a really interesting topic. I think our favorites may be tied to our lives, in some way? At least for me they are.
Not to be mosey but what happened to your brother Layne?
My friend Lisa is the booking agent for Billy Joel and Rod Stewart. Lane relentlessly busted my balls because she got me a free ticket to see Rod with Cyndi
Lauper opening at MSG in 2018.
He thought it a good thing or a bad thing that you went? Just a dig on present-day Rod?
@@TheLongCut1 He thought modern day Rob was garbage. I guess your
mim had the Rod Sings classic rock CD and would play it when he visited.
Will do
RUSH..." Moving Pictures"
Lynyrd Skynyrd..."Second Helping"
ZZ TOP..."Deguello"
Elton John..." Madman Across the Water"
Jethro Tull..."Songs from the Wood"
Aerosmith..."Rocks"
Neil Young..."After the Gold Rush"
Van Halen..."VH II"
Eagels..."On the Border"
Steely Dan..." Count Down to Ecstasy" ; "Pretzel Logic"
A lot of great ones here!
Where grandaddy at?
So when you aren't listening to the Rolling Stones Let it Bleed you are listening to the Beatles White Album all the time.
Basically :)
Did you get the record store day Yankee Foxtrot hotel copy ..Ur right White album is a hot mess . Good list …no Stones for me ..Jaggar is just too whiny. I can’t stand his voice
I did get it!
Love you album picks
Thank you!
@@TheLongCut1 You’re welcome
"The records I listen to the most, but they're not my favorites" I'm confused bro.🤔
