I have to say a few things. I was born in Santa Rosa in 1959, and I started cycling the roads in Sonoma County extensively around age 14. I still ride! I know all the roads "like the back of my hand". Have not biked them all, but I so much appreciate your content. I would like to meet you one day. I need help with installing fenders. LOL
I had my 700c x 38 rear wheel in for repair and the only other option I had was 27.5 x 2.1, I honestly didn't notice a difference. I do believe good tires make the bike, horrible tires tend to make for a horrible bike.
A good strategy of bike creation is to base the entire build around tire choice, because now there are so many tire offerings, and fat tires sometimes weight less than skinner ones, and there are advantages to tubeless lower pressure setups.
Once again, thanks for taking us along with you. I've done that loop, and this video captures the highlights... the slog up and up and up to "top" of King Ridge, the rolling beauty along the ridge, the seductive drop down Hauser Bridge - whoa, that final left curve! - the rolleroaster along SeaView road, and the thrill of descending Myers Grade. Bonus points for the VeeDub Bus coming and going.
I found this road thanks to your channel, and finally got to do this exact ride in 2022. Bucket list item for sure!!! My friend was descending Hauser Bridge Road impossibly fast and I tried to keep up with them. I seriously almost flew off the road.
I'm a new subscriber and have been enjoying the videos! getting me inspired to put together an all-rounder bike :) what do you do outside of cycling videos? seems like you have a great lifestyle figured out in your part of the world!
Good eye! Yes it is. I swapped out her saddle, but didn't check the saddle height measurement before we went out for our ride. It turns out the saddle I put on has lower saddle rails.
Have you thought about Cruze Ranch Rd? We used to start in Monte Rio, head out to cazadero and King Ridge. We would go to Stewarts Point for some food. We would go south on HWY 1 to Cruze Ranch Rd, a beautiful, unpaved road and it runs into Seaview. We would head south on Seaview and take Fort Ross Rd. back to Cazadero and then back to Monte Rio.
I rode kings mountain with Levi’s century. Fantastic area to ride. Dropping down to the coast it was so steep peoples tires were popping from the heat of the brakes. The climb up Coleman road is epic.
I like your videos because I cycle a lot myself and your videos also have a relaxed atmosphere. Of course, I like all kinds of cycling videos, but whenever you travel somewhere far away and do bike tours there, I think there's something special about it. I've been following these videos for almost four years and have watched almost every new episode since then. Thanks for the videos and have a nice autumn. Greetings from Finland, summer is almost over here and hopefully autumn will be as beautiful as summer was. I look forward to your new videos.
Great Video and so good that you did that film and took us on this beautiful fide despite of taking shots there before. The view from that curvy road ist very special and I was only able to recall the part with that amazing view down the coast. Amazing filming on these descends. Liebe Grüße 🙋🏼♀️
Ms. Cools' drivetrain on the wrong side caught me off guard. I realised she has a secret talent of tinkering with her bike on the go. And also it seems Henry has a talent of pulling apples out from nowhere ^^
There have been three stars to your videos; you, Ms. Cools, and your part of NorCal paradise. Yes, the guests too. As I have transitioned more into bikes from hiking, I brought my satellite SOS/messaging devices with me because in my area, you can be out of cellular service just a few miles out of town in a very rural area. I currently use a ZOLEO though a Garmin InReach Mini that is wearable is a nice fit for a cyclist. I like the response to the comments for a change-up.
Wo you answered my comment! Thanks. Ive been struggling with holding 150 for 20 mins. Ive had bad experiences riding the bike trail. Its super croweded, everyone is zooming. Ohio doesn't feel super safe on the roads.
I watched a video on the Cobra frame builder site. The subject was fork building. Shown was a Schmidt Son hub generator dropout. Ms Cools bike has the wire wrapped around the fork. This system uses no wire connector at the hub and connects as soon as the wheel is installed. This has to be built into the fork.
Those are very nice dropouts. One of these days I will finally reroute the wires on her bike (and mine) and add a few quick connectors to make removing the fork and headlight easier. For now I have kept the wires long so I can trim them as needed.
When you upload these types of ride videos I always follow along on Google maps and figure out your route. It's fun and educational for me, and over the few years that I've been watching your videos I feel like I've learned the roads and geography of the part of California that you ride in fairly well. One day I plan to vacation in the area and ride many of these roads for myself. Until then, I hope you keep making these types of short films. Cheers.
Some of us ride flats with normal shoes and have done so for decades but it never stops folks from giving their unsolicited opinions about how we’re “giving up 30% power” or some other claptrap. Tendon issues is a new one tho… Congrats! I thought I’d heard em all. Sorry, touchy subject for me after a local club incessantly boomersplained this to me on every ride despite me having no problems keeping pace… I don’t do club rides anymore.
@@RO8YO I’m ex semi pro I know what I’m talking about flat pedals are not as efficient as cleats bottom line so if you’ve never turned a pedal in anger keep your thoughts to yourself but I wouldn’t hold my breath to see tour de france riders wearing vans
@@Tarmaccyclocross I'm sure it pains your "ex-semi pro" heart to learn that not everybody aspires to be a tour pro and yet logs plenty of miles. I do it for the pleasure of riding. Do you watch any other RUclips cyclists channels? If so, which one's?
Loved the cafe cake speed warning. Great stuff again.
I am also ready to move to Sonoma County. Where do I sign up?? LOL
Nice ride; as usual Ms Cools killing it with the Vans and great pedalIng form!
I think Timothy Olyphant stole your look for The Mandalorian Season 2, Henry. Your influence is spreading.
I used to ride old la honda and las tunitas on the penninsula and thought that was as good as it got. But west Sonoma county looks pretty amazing.

And fatter tires can be run on lighter, less strong wheelsets without a compromise of durability.
Tasty Shuggie Otis cover from the band in Jenner.
Thank you for another enjoyable video. You mentioned the tire mounting tip, I don't recall that. Do you have a link to this?
Thank you, Rick. I've added a link in the description. Here it is for you ruclips.net/video/nNiJUuSNOcI/видео.html
Carefully Henry , the back wheel always wins! 😊
Never tire of seeing or riding King Ridge! Great video! Ms. Cools camera work was impressive! BTW look forward to doing Old Caz the other way.

Ms Cools, of course your not going to tell us if she is a cycling partner, or something more are you...regardless enjoy you cycling...

King Ridge is still one of the best roads on this continent.

I wear the same type of shoes than her on the bike, never seen the need for something else.
