    Well played visual experiment. My area even the tarmac sings of gravel popping. Very big on chip-n-seal. Plus your music catalog always delights. Very droughty year in the Central Rockies and Northern Plains US this winter so I had more miles on my faux rando bike in January than I managed in August '23.

    As usual, I very much enjoy watching you and Ms. Cools riding your lovely local roads. Although, HOLY CRAP the oncoming car around the 10 minute mark surprised me as much as probably did to Ms. Cools!

    Your NorCal roads always give me motivation to get out and ride. Do you have a link to the route? The only part that I recognize is the windy coastal hill before Jenner. ❤

      Thanks! I put a link in the description to a RideWithGPS route. I would have added points of interest, but I'm not a subscriber to the platform. However, I did start you off in the town of Monte Rio, because I figured most people from out of the area will likely pass through there and it's a nice place to get started. It adds a few miles, but it's worth it. I also routed you through the back way so you don't have to spend as much time on HWY 116 which can be busy and there are a few narrow sections. Enjoy! ridewithgps.com/routes/45889532

    Such a classic loop. Great in any weather as the wet roads and scattered clouds of your video show. I like the slightly longer option of dropping down Fort Ross Rd. to Hwy 1. People always assume that riding Hwy 1 means riding with traffic. Not on a weekday! Not even on weekends if you get out there before 10 or 11am. Oops, sorry! I don't want to give away too many secrets 😉

    We hit this route last Friday April 5th. Just complete happenstance. We started at the Sonoma Coast visitor center in Jenner and headed to Cazadero via River Road. Awesome route. What is with the lifelike cougar carving on Ft Ross Rd? Scared the pee outta me.

    • @Henrywildeberry
      @Henrywildeberry  7 месяцев назад

      You are not alone, the cougar sign has startled a lot of us. I've known of a few people who have completely turned back not realizing it was just a sign.

    Those roads reminded me of some back in the UK, pot holes of various size, the missing road surfaces due to weather etc but the important thing is to enjoy the ride. On a slightly unconnected topic some time back you were having a coffee break and discussing that the forest was calling M,s Cools, the conversation moved on to your hair condition and comments about your perfect ' bang ', as a nearly 78 year old man i failed to understand until i found a piece about Bettie Page and her famous hair style.

    • @Henrywildeberry
      @Henrywildeberry  8 месяцев назад

      I remember the conversation. What I was saying about my hair was in reference to surfing lingo. When the surf is up it is said to be, "firing." My bangs looked like they were curling up like a wave.

    I’m curious why you don’t run the rear and front lights already attached to your rando bikes for day riding so you’re more visible to oncoming cars and those coming up from behind you. I ride on the Peninsula in No. Cal and they are a big advantage on day rides as much as they are riding at night from a safety perspective.

    I have watched many of your videos and really enjoy them. I have noticed you run hub dynamo lighting. Did you create a video where you discussed this topic?

    • @Henrywildeberry
      @Henrywildeberry  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks Steve - Years ago I made a video about the dynamo, but it was mainly just a vlog of us out riding. What are you interested in finding out?

    • @stevelausmann6490
      @stevelausmann6490 8 месяцев назад

      I was just curious about why you chose this over modern battery lights. Do you run the lights during daytime for more visibility? Do you carry backup lighting?

    • @Henrywildeberry
      @Henrywildeberry  8 месяцев назад

      @@stevelausmann6490 I wanted a lighting system built into the bike so I wouldn't need to remember to bring batteries or recharge. I do have the light wired to a rear light too, so if I'm on a busy road I can easily run the daytime lights for better visibility. For off road riding I like to bring an extra battery powered light. The dynamo is convenient, and hasn't let me down.

    Like your chill rides and to get a chance to kind of experience these place’s I’ll never get to ride! Does Ms. Cools ever talk about her riding position? Pro bike fit? Not a criticism, and I’m no expert. Just looks unusual in several of your videos. The setback seatpost may be too much.

    I was so glad to hear your breathing on the climb (around 8:15). It normalized my rides and the efforts required on the hills.

      @@Primifluous Sorry you misunderstood. It's an insider joke. The line, "I'll buy that for a dollar.", is an homage to a line in several movies/TV shows (e. g. Get Smart, Marching Morons, Robo Cop) essentially meaning "Would you believe?"

    • @Primifluous
      @Primifluous 8 месяцев назад

      @@wallacedavidg I'm aware of it from Robocop (are you sure it's in Get Smart or Marching Morons? Pretty sure it originated in Robocop) where the guy says it in a highly sexualized in-movie commercial.
      I guess I have a different understanding of the phrase than you do, I've always taken it to be a little more literal. I wouldn't say it response to see a double rainbow over Yosemite valley, for instance.
      edit: Also, if my friend made a video and while watching it together told me a portion of it was, actually, his partner's breathing, I certainly wouldn't respond with 'I'd buy that for a dollar'.
