The most interesting thing is that these two have played each other so many times so they know what the other is probably going to do but there is when the mind games come into play. very interesting
Yeah but Carlsen always wins
@@ortegafilms4575 nakamura is psychologically affected with magnus
It's interesting but it's not poker its chess, just play the board not the player
@@yeahno3167 so basically playing the player
@@ashtondickens2005 haha yeah you might of done me there
Finally perfect presentation
1) Big enough board for us to see
2) Panning across the player's faces and expressions
3) Nice commentary
4) And most importantly NOT FUCKING UP THE BOARD
It took decades for us to have all 4 of these OBVIOUS principles of chess presentation, in the same video, I don't know how to feel...
Definitely relieved for me
Best thing is there’s not people cuffing
Commentary is a bit more informed, but there are still times they say things that make you roll your eyes
Switch the face cams with the board and tell the commentators it's ok to shut up once in a while and it's perfect.
I think it's awful... give some indication of which side of the board belongs to which player. Split the cameras on either side of the board or something.
Hikaru: i will predict his move
Magnus: i will predict his move
Both have been predicting every prediction they have by predicting their moves.
Magnus: he wont see this
Hikaru: I didnt see that
= New dimension open and it's a black hole vortex
basically death note
I like how Magnus makes faces like he's losing even when he's dominating
Memorizing the game for future use
my face looks like that all the time bruh.. 🌜
Probably explains while he's also very good at Poker. Came 25th out of 1000 people.
He's losing to himself in his head, and thinking "How would I beat that move if I had a second chance" then he thinks a bit longer and beats his own move, makes the move, and then the opponent does a worse move and now he's thinking how he'd beat himself again, and then how he'd beat himself beating himself, and then he makes a move.
That's, at least, what I am thinking he does.
Absolutely superb analysis from the commentator lad at 11mins. Thanks for that
Amongst all the mindless yapping there was some good analysis
Magnus' walk is soo funny ahah
Dude had to take a crap 😂😂

The one announcer talking about the stolen Pokémon card selling for “millions” 🧢🧢🧢
Best chess commentary I've ever heard
And no Coughing! 🤣
For sure
Very shitty
It's hard to focus on the commentary with these two playing chess.
Boring a f
These two are amazing
I love the way they remember to breathe. That makes it for me.
I hope they would increase the size of the board relative to the space that the focus camera is taking.
Same bro
🎯
Nah it is perfect just like that
there is not much visual depth given by enlarging the board, it is just a board. but there is something more to see by enlarging the face's camera
AGREED BIGTIME
Nakamura has lots of fans at my club, we have annotated his games since he went to Mexico to play Karjakin.
maybe make the board - larger part of the screen and their video small one..?
I feel lucky to have the privilege of watching these fellas play.
"that card was was even rarer then yours which sold for millions" 13:45
Weird flex
BS too. There is no pokemon card that sold for millions AFAIK. No idea why she had to lie. What a weird flex indeed.
I cringed when I heard that because it was straight up lie. The dude was silent for a moment there lol
@@Canonall Indeed sounds like BS, but some sports cards sold for millions. She could be talking about those.
At 48:48 The reason black can't just advance his pawn and king and force white to give up his rook for the pawn is that black has to move both his pawn and his king, while white just has to move his king, black was just one tempo away from drawing.
Hey, thanks for this. I'm a beginner and was really trying to figure out why it wouldn't be a draw.
He definitely could’ve pushed His king to D4 and protected it the whole way
@@lordofthe6string lmao im sitting in my room trynna do the same thing im like how does black lose xd
Right? I still don't get it.
@@audball377 Count the moves. The black has to get his queen under the protection of the king, and to get to pawn on C1 and king on D2 he needs 6 moves. White is able to get his king to B2 in 5 moves. So right before black is able to get his protected queen, the C1 square will already be covered by the white king, so rook will be able to take down the queen as she appears - and King+Rook win against lone King

A talk about collecting napkins is very crucial for the most crucial phase of the middlegame
Try muting the video.
though i find the commentary endearing, talking about collecting stamps while the greatest chess minds of a generation duke it out is so out of place lol.
Hahaha
@ 38:28 newbie here, getting that black pawn sideways to g3 when there’s nothing in there? Is that allowed?
It's the en passant capture. It allows a pawn to capture a horizontally adjacent enemy pawn that has just advanced two squares in one move.
@@ettorepacilli2050 thank you for the info, brother! This is helpful
06:30 I don't think he's trying to remember a pattern, I think he's just playing a few possible lines in his head if he commits to making a move.
Early game is almost entirely memorized lines
I think making the chess board screen should be the biggest and main screen on the video. The actual game is the most fun part of the video not the facial expressions of the players! Let the game shine and make the board the star!
most people watching this have no clue whats happening
Why didn't nakamura draw at the end ?
good question... :S
White would end up capturing the pon with his rook defended by his king.
@@billionairesambo how? I am the black: king D4
Then?
@@ViskaViska I'm guessing there' a pretty straightforward technique where the rook backs off, and the king walks over. The rook can then move back into position and gg? But I don't know what that actually looks like. I'm guessing Hikaru & Magnus do, though
@@AUniqueHandleName444 ok i have seen the end. The white only must move the king to the bottom for winning. Thx.
this is it guys
Typical Hikaru, analysing the board somewhere in the ceiling
Masterful endgame. I couldn't find those winning moves 🤔
What, an internet rando couldn't find the moves made by Carlson? Amazing.
@@IMP3TIGO Carlson
strange question, does this tournament count as "over the board" ranking?
Nice sponsor in the background-FTX!
Norwegians indeed can hold a good chess show. Easy, understandable and prime commentary.
Chess is now a game of memorization instead of in game decisions
😅 How many you can memorized ?
@@carloschu7127 not the point. but random chess does exist for those who want to really challenge their ability to adapt. I wonder how the cards would fall in a randomized chess tournament
Jovanka Houska "Everyone can own a palace. A mind palace."
They can't, a mind palace cost a mind. Some have mind houses or even just the furniture.
Why do you publish a 720 quality video two decades into the 21st century? Too weak, too (s)low
48:43 - why does he resign? if BK D4 , WR C4 and it would be a draw..
why are the cameras bigger than the actual game? the part everyone wants to see is just shoved in the corner lol
09:00 you can click a piece and click the destination... Dragging pieces is just asking to blunder
The phrase "Wesley So is maybe hoping his countryman, Nakamura, can do him a favor by defeating Magnus" brings me more joy than I can express.
Wesley So was born in the Philippines.
Hikaru Nakamura was born in Japan.
But they're *both Americans.*
Thats why they're counteymen.
I love how diverse this country is, being a nation originally formed by and for immigrants and refugees. Which is not to say that we haven't had our share of racism and intolerance; I am under no delusions that this country is perfect.
Obtaining entry and citizenship is probably harder now than it has ever been in history, and that saddens me a great deal because our racist and xenophobic voters and politicians are basically trying to codify racism into law, but I have faith that most Americans do not agree with those positions.
As a descendant of German and Irish families, I believe that the majority of Americans would still welcome the tired, the poor and the huddled masses, yearning to breathe free. The racists and xenophobes are the exception to the rule, not the rule itself. ❤✌️
Wow that was rough I like both of these players
13:55 that cap is bigger then my social anxiety
Straight up lying
Very Karpovian play by Magnus
Loving Nakamura’s face journey. 36:39 He visibly grimaces and shakes his head LOL
Each one tryin' to catch the other off guard/preparation! Too much dependence on memory/theory... Fischer was right about chess, and FischerRandom is the closest thing to a solution.
I like this format !
No Pokemon card has ever sold for $million+. The most expensive was $420,000. Also condition matters a lot, so even if they had the same card. If it's not in the same condition (highly unlikely), it wouldn't sell for nearly the same price.
I was about to say, there's no way she really tried to one up story him like that 🤣 I knew he wanted to call that bullshit so bad
Why is the board so small. This is annoying
Park lane isn’t the most expensive monopoly it’s mayfair
FTX oh how times have changed
11:05 move 14 or 13.
Could black move QF7, BE7, QG6, BH3 white pawn can’t capture cause queen would check. QG2
Was that a miss or easily defendable.
Commentary is diabolical
why does nakamura's time keep jumping back to around 50 seconds after he gets below a minute? is there something that i dont know about that rewards a fast move with more time?
Had to watch this with the sound off
Left side ? h line? Is this supposed to be baby terminology for beginners? It just sounds patronising.
i love the commentary team
How did magnus win there are still moves left for nakamura?
Loved the Beth Harmon reference.
Time stamp pls

The board should be larger than looking at the players...
Really good comments and fun by the way. Bravo
24:00 did Hikaru premove that pawn take?
yes
I didn't get it the black king can still protect the pawn at the end and be draw ??
the most interesting thing about this was the part about pokemon cards
Why does it seem like chess tournament organizers struggle so hard with how to present a chess match on the screen? Over the board presents a challenge but online should be easy, why would you make the biggest part of a screen 2 people sitting at computers? Make the board and the game the largest part of the screen, we don't need 2 player cams of guys sitting at a computer. It's actually mind boggling that they did that.
Nah it is not since it is literally an ONLINE tour do you know what online means? and the setup is perfect
@@williamrobert9898 Yeah, its an online tour so screen capture is he board and make it bigger, why the fuck would you make their faces the biggest part of screen lmao

why he didn't capture the rook on b6 at the end game with the c5 pone , would't that lead to a draw?

26:43 Bf7?
These OTB games should be on a bloody chess board, not on a computer, players should be able to look at eachother, not pixels.
I like the mnemonic memory technique.
So cool how the comentator gets so happy sharing the "mind palace" from Sherlock Holmes ☺

@GothamChess would love to see a review of this game!
At 34:00 howcome hik took pawn with his knight instead of taking mags knight with his rook?
Anyone know where I can get the PGN for this game?
is mugzy listening to music in his headphones?
I thought it was called park place, not park plane...
Can someone explain why they don´t play with a real board? only because of corona?
Because it is literally an online tour lol
.why do they play on a computer?
The male speaker should never narrate again.
At 48- why can’t black slide his rook left, Force white to slide his rook down, then black take white rook with the pawn?
At 24:00 I'm pretty sure Magnus could have taken that backwards pawn on d6. Even if the black bishop took the pawn on b3, Magnus still would be able to take the black knight on d7. I guess I understand why he didn't take, he was afraid of the compensation that black gets by taking the a4 and c2 pawns for the knight, that's logical.
There's also another line you got to consider. If you take the pawn on d6, then black could go rg6 and Magnus would have to go Qc7 and the black bishop would take the pawn on h3 and Magnus would be in a uncomfortable situation. That's the line he was probably worried about. The computer thinks that white's winning if he took the pawn, but with the amount of time left on the board, Magnus decided to make a flexible move and just go Qe3, that's a wise decision. I hope this was a helpful analysis for other people who were asking the same question.
The bishop can move backward and take the queen if you take the knight
@@alexmangiapane2258 if magnus takes on d6 and hikaru takes on b3 then the bishop can't go backwards to take the queen. I've analyzed the different scenarios if magnus takes on d6, if you look at my previous comment.
@@chessgenius123 takes oh h3 i feel like u wasted time analyzing a failed strat
@@outviteslb8143 if you analyze this line with the computer. The computer thinks its a very reasonable line to go for giving white 0.5. You got to do the research on these different lines instead of saying you feel a certain way about something.
i feel you shouldn't take things personally but computers find it difficult to evaluate positions.
Bro what are they talking about collecting napkins for
are chess tournaments all done on computer now - no actual physical pieces?
no but there are esport chess tournaments now. Most main events are over the board

@38:32 what is that
the small chess board and gigantic shots of the players faces is so distracting that i feel compelled to comment. it's ruining an otherwise fantastic game and analysis. WTF. Extremely poor layout and production quality.

Great commentary! this is how it's done, great job guys
In the end game, why didn't Hikaru play rook G7 and either trade rooks or force magnus to move his rook thus freeing the king?
Magnus doesn't think or plan, he just waits for the best possible move to come to him :)
Was thinking the same thing
when the commentators start talking about napkin you know its a pro game xDDDD
Why was this game settled? Can't the black king protect the pawn?
