  • Here's another commercial for Marriott's Great America.
    This aired on local Chicago TV early Sunday, July 13th 1980.
    About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
    The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the
    preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s
    and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels;
    footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved
    digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we
    preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs
    with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical
    purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or
    lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 3,700+ (and
    counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please

    These commercials are wonderful! The memories they bring back are awesome. I lived about 90 minutes north of Marriott's Great 🇺🇸America🇺🇸 and I can remember the anticipation driving to the park. By the time we'd pass Kenosha I'd be bouncing like a jumping bean. And I was driving! LOL! We had some epic adventures at this place. My first HUGE Rollercoaster🎢 was the Demon, then the Eagle. The Whizzer was in there too but that was a wimpy one, but still fun. So many rides now gone. Z-Force, the Bobsled ride(forgot the name), Iron🐺Wolf🐺, Shock Wave(Loved it!), the Space Shuttle Power Dive(hung u upside-down), Tidal Wave, and many many more. I LOVED this place. Then they started the Haunted Six Flags. They'd open in October and run until 🎃Halloween🎃 and it was a BRILLIANT IDEA! Our first time there was epic! They were playing the theme to the 🎃Halloween🎃 Movie as you walked the "midway". The entire park had a great atmosphere! It was Fall, and it had the 🎃Halloween🎃look to it. Then the AMERICAN EAGLE! A Wooden 🎢Rollercoaster🎢 that ran side by side up the massive hill, then over the hill into a DROP! A BIG DROP! Well they went one step crazier! They had one side run backwards. Meaning the front car was now the last car. The rear car was now the front car, except you were facing the opposite way, looking backwards. Another brilliant example of how they made this park so much fun! My main times we went were the mid to late 80's and early 90's. I had a friend who worked there. He'd drive from Oak Creek, Wisconsin to Gurnee, Illinois 5 times a week, for a mediocre pay, BUT he got to go for free, he got us in one summer so many times. We'd just hop in his car and ride to work with him and we'd jam out at the park while he worked. We went over 40 times maybe 50+. It became a blur. I can honestly say that Six Flags Great America is truly one of the best adventures I ever had! Thank you for the memories, thank you for all the fun and excitement! It was awesome!

      My buddy worked there from 1987-88. Maybe 1988-89. Either way he loved it. He ran the Lobster ride. 🦞 Not exactly sure of the actual name.

    Wow, all these years later hearing that song conjures up memories of a great day ahead. Back then the P's would wander their way and we kids would run off in a huge group to tackle the coasters. "Meet us a Farmer's market for lunch 12 sharp!" was the last thing we heard for 2 hour's from them lol

    The commercial was aired in Chicago, but at least one shot (if not the entire commercial) was filmed in California. The Lobster was the version used in the California park. My one question is, when did they have an actual Ferris Wheel?

      Rooster Cogburn As someone who has spent many a summer at Great America, and some working there, I know that rides are replaced. My point is that I never knew they had a traditional-style Ferris wheel there, when they had the (much more efficient) Sky Whirls there since opening.

      @@AnakinMarcZaeger I know looking at old park maps there was a ferris wheel there in the 80's i believe? It was in the way back where Iron Wolf used to be.
