My review on Hudson Star. I have had it for 2 years. It was love at first sight that has slowly faded into a bitter relationship. If i could i would have bought another mower for the price i paid. The handle has begun to rust, the cover that covers the gears never seals correctly and gets water in it, The rear 2 piece roller is a POS one of them the rubber completely fell off and found out its just a pvc pipe with rubber on it that they charge big money for. Limited front roller option and needed a grooved roller. Contacted manufacture where they treated me like i'm an idiot for not only wanting a smooth front roller. Now they have created additional rollers so i guess i wasn't the only one complaining. The Cut is not great on bermuda i get riffling effect when i cut .125. Have back lapped it many times with no real effect got local golf mechanic to relief grind it. worked good for a couple months back to cutting like ass. Probably the worse part about this mower is not having an engine. What seemed great at first because of *no maintenance* no oil gas etc is outweighed by how annoying it gets pushing this around with out power. Since your cutting so low you have to mow ideally every day or at least ever 2-3 days. With no engine going on 2 years its getting extremely annoying. If you only have a very small green that is completely flat its no big deal. If this mower was about $1000 cheaper i would say great buy go for it. But being about a $2800 mower for the PGA model i would definitely avoid this and just buy a used toro or deer.
First, adjust the reel and bedknife to light contact. Secondly, I am a turf equipment repair manager in the golf industry and have been for 31 years, R&R reels are excellent and provide an excellent quality of cut. Lastly, The Toro Flex 21 greensmower is a heavier unit and has a higher number of blades than the Hudson Star so with those two facts you’ll remove more turf and get a higher frequency of cut.
First both my flex 21 and my hudson star are 11 blades ! do you really think I did not adjust the reel to bedknife ... That reel need to be grind because the reel is not perfect ... I know alot of super who had problem with R&R reel in the past ! Nothing hard to adjust the reel to bedknife when the reel as been grind :P I did backlap it but it's not working ! I will bring it to my golf course for a relief grind
With a 10 blade reel you need to cut you grass every other day. It's really meant for a golf course green look. Too long of grass is not for a reel mower.
sorry but I have 2 golf green and toro my flex 21 is still way better then this ... I always cut my grass every other day and only had problem with the hudson because they use R&R reel and they don't grind it before shipping so there is any quality of cut unless your lucky with the unit you bought
I think you're trying to cut too much grass off at 1 time with the Hudson star. It is a 10 blade reel. It will bind up when it tries to take long blades of grass all at once.
I mow my green every day and the fairway every 2 days ... The problem is they ship the mower without a reel and bedknife grind ! they use R&R reel and bedknife
You have the Hudsons!!!🇨🇦🇨🇦 im jelly 🙂 thank you for sharing the cons of this mower.

Im looking on the used market for a hudson star. Good to see a greens mower used in such a tight area.

You might want to try backlapping

For over 2 Grand. Hudson Star doesn't seem to be worth it. Waiting for EGO to release a reel mower.
it's not worth it !!! can't wait to see if EGO will make one :)
