Watch Camera Comparison Test : iPhone 12 Pro Vs Samsung Note 20 Ultra
• What's the difference ...
The Sony RX100 VII has been known as the King of Compact Cameras, it's portable, it has a 24-200mm Super Zoom Lens and it has all the functionality of a DSLR or a Mirrorless Camera, and then Apple said that the iPhone 11 Pro Max is capable of Pro-Level Photograhy. So in this episode, we purchased our own iPhone 11 Pro Max and Sony RX100 VII and when into Melbourne's Botanical Gardens to test and compare these two camera systems.
But before that, we made a quick pit stop at our favourite Pizza Restaurant, favourite Pho shop in Springvale.
We did some Food Photography, Telephoto Photography, Steadicam Shots and Night Photography to compare these two cameras. For the Night Mode Test, we conducted it in Docklands, until we found that it was too bright, so we headed on over to the heart of Darkness at the Dandenong Mountains. And once we were done, we headed on over to the Pub at the Nottinghill Hotel.
To test the video stabilisation on these two cameras, we pitted it against the GoPro Hero 7 Black, check out the video to find out how it went.

Although the RX100 was better in some cases, sometimes the iPhone was better, and the iPhone I always carry around and is one touch away from Instagram or whatever app.
It goes to show how much under pressure the photo camera industry is, set aside the higher-end.
Which is probably why there has been no more RX100 since the Mark 7. The camera that is always with you is the best camera! ✌️
The iPhone is virtually never "better" unless you want small phone size photos without editing. If you want to blow up the photos or zoom in on photos and print, the differences between an iPhone and a real camera with a 1" sensor are no comparison.
@@tyruscharles 1yr later and iPhone 14pro has almost a 1 inch sensor so detail and dynamic range are now better on iPhone. I will say though that the zeiss optics of the rx100 are much much better than a smartphone though, but only pros will be able to notice it clearly because they have been exposed to using quality lenses and normal people haven’t. iPhones use the over-sharpening and micro-contrast enhancements to hide the fact that the lenses they use are mostly plastic lens elements with no expensive coatings.
This is a whole different level of editing, outstanding, I can not imagine how many hours have been put into this project. You earned my respect man.

Progress Motion naw g you just a kiss ass and wish you the best sir
Everything is clear here, Sony is the winner, all three lenses and an iPhone are made by Sony 😂 😂 😂
That’s a very interesting perspective. I just learned that fun fact from one of our viewers. I couldn’t believe that Sony made the sensors, but they do. They also made the Walkman and Discman, until Apple killed it with an iPod which kicked started the smartphone camera trend. I guess it’s the Circle of Life. Thanks for watching and for sharing your comment. Happy New Year! 🥳
@@JeremyToh think traditional cameras are needed for those who want to shoot without interference, it rarely works on a smartphone, only if you turn off the Internet and communication, I personally like to shoot on traditional cameras, happy new year😉🍾
As far as i know the camera module is from lg innotech.
@@JeremyToh walkman sound quality is better than ipod, i think apple cant kill walkman with iPod :v

Excellent video. Production is great and well mixed. The content was well thought out and a fantastic choice of two camera based items to compare. Ironically I was looking at buying both of these, I will now stick to my GH5’s and buy the iphone 11. Thank you for your hard work. You deserve a lot more subscribers if you keep this level of work up.👍🎥
Thanks for watching, we're really glad you enjoy our video. And thanks again for your very encouraging comments, we'll try to keep up this level of work. The Panasonic GH5 is still an awesome camera, I don't think the iPhone can beat the quality of the GH5. But if you want a travel friendly camera and prefer to have manual controls, Sony RX100 is among the best of them.

Very informative video, I just wanted to add that the Sony RX100 VII, has the capability as to stack 4 or 12 photos together to produce a less grainy one in case of insufficient lighting, and as you said, for most of users, it is not a straight forward thing to do.
Really appreciate all the explanation about the cameras features.

Great test thank you so much
Thanks for this breakdown! Am super happy with my Sony RX100 M7. It's a really great compact to have and you'll feel nostalgic when taking photos with it. Taking photos with iPhone is great but nothing beats that feeling from 1990 when you're still using a good old fashion compact snappy... well, as close as I can get to it...
Ambient Walking Thanks for tuning in, we’re glad you enjoyed the film. We’re working on a comparison with the S20 Ultra, do stay tune. It’s really giving the Sony a run for its money, but I think Samsung may have rushed it with their 100X Zoom.

thanks for the zoom tests. looks like I'll be looking at those with periscope cameras for zoom.
Top review....lot of work in that. I have an 11 Pro Max and several Nikons. Happy with the 11 Pro but it comes down to what you want. If you need to print to reasonable size then a software created image cannot compete , even after serious editing, but the 11 is no slouch and is very impressive, and being a phone is always with you. Thanks for your great work.
Thanks for your very kind words. Really glad you enjoyed it as much as we had fun making it.
Today Apple just launched the iPhone 12. Now even the videos are getting the HDR/HLG treatment plus an increase in low light performance. Sony’s consumer camera department could soon be closing shop. I think the RX line up could be dinosaurs, except for their zoom capabilities. Tell us what do you think of the new iPhone 12?
Very helpful comparisons of two very different camera options. Keep up the good reviews.

Thanks for tuning in and we really appreciate your support! 🙏🙏🙏
I have the canon g7x mark ii, and used it as my travel camera. Before this i dont really use my smartphone camera as it wasnt good enough. Then came the iphone 11 pro (although the pixel 3 was pretty good), then i dont feel the need to use a separate camera for my travel anymore.
My only complaint is still the lowlight performance, night mode is pretty good, but still cant compare to a 1” sensor.
But i have no doubt smartphones camera still have so much to improve with close integration between hardward and AI processing.
You should have tested them for shutter speeds, I took my Huawei P30 Pro to an airshow. It was useless for stills, it could not capture a fast moving jet, and anything zoomed in was a blurry mess. My Lumix G9 with a 14-140 lens totally blew it out of the park in this instance. This is the one area I think cameras still have a distinct advantage.
Excellent comparison. Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
Absolutely brilliant info and editing
Thanks for the super informative video. I’ve been thinking about getting a new camera and was comparing RX100 VII to RX10 IV. Based on this video it seems the most important question for photographers these days is ‘which camera will do things that smartphones will not?’ My choice is now clear, smartphones are competing vigorously with compacts, but can never replicate longer zooms (eg 600mm of the RX10 IV) or larger sensors. For now anyway.
Thanks for tuning in. We're really happy you've enjoyed it. The type of camera you choose really depends on your situation. If you're travelling and you're clumsy and lose a lot equipment, you'll be happy to know the iPhone can do a lot. But if you're a tinkerer, a true connoisseur but you're forced to travel light, you may enjoy the RX100 a lot more. But like you said for now, Smartphones still can't replicate longer zoom.
Excellent creativity and editing my friend! I feel like a bowl of pho now.

What camera would you recommend so it don’t be replaced my your iPhone yet small enough to carry and able to operate with manual control better than them?

I see an SKX there, I like!
This is basically Software Vs Hardware
Yes, it is a bit about software and how Apple tries to take advantage of it to enhance its cameras to give us amazing imagery. We’re quite lucky to be living in the age of technology, and how they have enabled our lives to become so much easier. (Or complicated, depending on your perspective 🤦♂️) Once Skynet becomes sentient, I will have to eat my own words. 😂
Awesome video and very thorough comparison. Hello from a fellow Melbournian!
Hello! Yay! The video finally found a fellow Melbournian! Thanks for tuning in. 🙏
I love your editing!
But I can't make them yet for my channel lol. 3 days of editing for 30-100 views
Thank you very much for your video. This was very helpful as I was just looking at new compact cameras. I have an iphone 11 Max pro, and after seeing the video and picture differences/comparisons I don't think its wise to go spend another 1600 dollars up here in Canada for the Sony.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It almost doesn’t make sense anymore for getting a compact camera. Compact Cameras currently still have the edge on optical zoom, but for how long? We compared the Galaxy S20 Ultra against the RX100. 108 Megapixel vs 1-Inch Camera sensor... The result was a draw. If you’re interested check it out in the link below. ruclips.net/video/zdWdi_HdQsg/видео.html
This was an interesting video to watch, especially the music
What a nice video. Congrats!
On the Sony you can use RAW which gives great post processing capability. Can that be done on the IPhone?
@@JeremyToh but does it have that amount of shadow recovery vs a larger sensor? i think it should be added to the comparison too :)
Excellent and fair review. These multi camera phones are the reason for the big drop in camera sales during the last year. For example many people would buy a DSLR with only the kit lens & find it met 99% of their needs so never bought another lens. And some of these phones are now covering a similar range, & do video really well so why buy a camera? I think some people buy a camera use it for a while, & then get lazy and use their phone all the time!
Thank you for your comments! We really appreciate your feedback. There are still people that will buy DSLR and Mirrorless cameras. It’s just that when in the moment of convenience, for most of us, the smartphone is just so much easy to get. I often find my mirrorless camera is always packed away a overhead compartment whenever I want to film something. 😂 so my phone or the Sony Rx100 becomes perfect for those situations.
Hi,thanks for the great video and explanations.
I wish you a very Happy New Year.

Thanks for tuning in, we appreciate your feedback. We will have to include that in our follow up video. 🙏
Very detailed and honest analysis!
However, I think it totally depends on the purpose of the photographer...
If it is family and fun, Facebook, Instagram, iPhone is good... afterall it's a phone also!!! 😀😀
But if one is serious about photography, smartphone is not the answer!
My personal opinion! 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for tuning in, and for dropping us a comment. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, it’s probably the same with cameras too, so you are absolutely right.

So funny, there are 2 important things, these are distortions and depth, photos from the phone will always distort your face and photos will be flat .... I will not say anything about night shooting. And if the photo is flat and distorts the face .... Then this is not a photo but a parody of it.
Wrong. It only distorts if you shoot closer to the subject. If you are standing in the same place, the distortion will be equal
Innovate4293 it will never be true to life and the lens compression will always be awful on phones. Why? Because they’re usually like 3-7mm focal length lenses but because of sensor crop factor they multiply out to FOVs like 24 and 50mm. (Standard and 2x focal lengths usually) they aren’t actual 24 mm and 50mm lenses and will therefore never truly match a real 50mm lens. Even the RX will distort a bit when compared to Sony’s own full frame cameras
You should have warned us that watching this video would result in hunger. Wow, that food looked good! Your content was balanced and fair. Very accurate in my opinion.
Very good video. I just bought a Samsung S10+ for its wide angle. I notice that in low light it is not as good as my Sony a6000 but the stabilisation is far better. Furthermore with Filmic Pro the phone comes into a new class. I bought it for my RUclips channel on RV travel and this will be a great help because of its weight.
@@JeremyToh What I really liked about your video was the initial price comparison - which is what I thought. Initially I thought, do I really want to spend another EUR1k on a 'phone I don't need but then I thought that is what the Sony a6000 plus gimbal cost so why not? I can't carrying the heavy gimbal around everywhere but I need to carry a telephone everywhere! All the best, I wish I were as good as you at making videos!
Dude I had to like and subscribe just because of your video editing skills lol
Thanks for your support! We really appreciate it.
Amazing video!!!👍
Goes to show just how good the iPhone 11 Pro is. And this video didn’t even talk about deep fusion. I’ve see so many videos comparing this phone to dslrs and mirrorless cameras. The sensor on a camera is probably 4 times the size of a phone sensor and the iPhone is still holding its own which is crazy. Apple has made huge leaps photography in just a year.
Jeremy Toh yup. And they sound really good.

Phone cameras are becoming so good that point and shoots are now becoming obsolete. I think that's sad because there's something nice about having a dedicated camera specific for capturing special memories. Compared to a phone where photos just seem to be one little extra trick they can do
Thanks Justin for dropping us a comment. We do have a soft spot for proper cameras, and I do believe once they become scarce enough, their prices could go up as they become a collectible item. Or maybe in 20 years they‘ll make a comeback. Just my 2 cents.
Great video man!
Nice video! I like your presentation!
great video! I really enjoyed the editing and pacing...I have an iphone 7plus and I'm thinking of upgrading to a 11pro max!! I have tons of cameras including a RX100 IV, a Gopro 8 and a Sony a6400 with a sigma 16mm f1.4 (nice toys I know!) but I think that the new iphones could be a good camera for travellers or just to keep handy! My 7plus is ok (but not at night of course)...I'm wondering if the iphone 11 would be just fine or if I would miss the "telephoto" the 11pro max offers (not a real telephoto I know). If I upgrade from my 7plus (still works fine and it has the latest firmware) I want to really get the most out of my investment but the 11 pro max with 256GB will be at least $500 Cdn more than the 11...thanks for the video and any opinions you may have!
@@JeremyTohgreetings from Canada! Must be nice to be enjoying the Summer in Australia...! 4 more months and some warmth will return to Canada..about the iphone 11...right..I went to the apple store here in Toronto and I can see that the OLED screen on the 11pro max is really good (but the Samsung Note 10+ is even bigger and better? hard to tell in the store when they set them up to be so bright!) but when I played a video on youtube the actual playable screen size was not much bigger than my current iphone 7plus-I saw borders on the left and right of the 11pro max screen- I know I can press the zoom button to expand the view...however the quality of the screen is much better than my current 1080p on the 7plus. The LED screen on the 11 was good too (lower resolution than my current 7plus!! WTF apple!) but not that much from my 7plus.Hmmm....I've seen some "cinematic" videos shot with the iphone 11 and some (not many!) are amazing! although I know that the really cinematic ones are because the person behind the phone knew what to do! and I'm not talking about the deceiving "shot on iphone 11" videos by Apple that most likely were shot with a professional crew and additional euipment...however the cinematic user created videos seem to rely on the Filmic pro software-have you used it? Anyways..I think all the hype is getting to me-I still have a nice working phone and now that you mention that there are rumours? announcements? from apple that there will be 5G phones coming in 2020 I'm tempted to wait...but maybe I will just make one more visit to the Apple store during my lunch hour...! Just saying! the iphone 11 in red would be awesome...but..will that really be a huge upgrade from my reliable 7plus...hmm...Thanks for the video! Enjoy the Summer!

Great video. I'm curious what you used to film the final conclusion? Also, how does the Sony handle low light with video?
Thanks
Thanks for watching. We filmed the conclusion with a Panasonic GH5 using Panasonic's v-log. Because of the bigger sensor, and that you can easily punch up the ISO on the Sony, the RX100 handles low light video a lot better than the iPhone.
Excellent comparison. 2 things I especially appreciated being included, the comment that the best camera is the one you have with you (advantage iPhone) and mentioning that an enthusiast or pro will get better results from the Sony. I have an older Sony RX100 (VA) and don't carry it around, but have times where it goes with me. I've taken the time to learn it and get some great photos. One other advantage to Sony you didn't mention, I'll still have it while someone obsessed with having the best camera phone upgrades 3 more times (at $1200+ each time).
Thanks for dropping us a very well written comment. The conclusion in the video came from our own experience when we were filming our road trip adventure across South East Asia. We had the Panasonic GH5 and G85, with a tonne of lens in the bag, and that's where they stayed most of them time...in the bag. We found it quicker to grab what ever camera that was right in front of us to film those candid moments we had, and it's usually the smartphone or sometimes the GoPros we had lying. But when we had time, we would take out the mirrorless cameras to do proper shoots. So when Sony released this new RX100 MKVII, we saw it as an opportunity to replace our bulky GH5 and G85 for our next adventure. Thanks again for tuning in. Happy filming out there!
Comparing the iPhone and Sony camera to the GoPro was genius
Thanks! Truth is the GoPro wasn’t supposed to be in there, we couldn’t find an adapter for the mount we created and used the GoPro’s rigg instead. And since we were using the rigg, we thought we chuck a GoPro in there for fun.

Obviously an actual camera is going to be better than a phone.
Not really, actually a phone with a bsi cmos sensor can easily out performe even some aps cameras with just cmos sensor
High Megapixels are pointless when youre only gonna post it to social media where the picture is compressed which in result a low quality photo
Kind of... But don't underestimate the value of being able to crop an image in post to get the frame you want. More megapixels = better detail for smaller crops...
then now what?? youre gonna post on social media?? just for it be compressed
unless the photo is printed for display or for a website then i'll understand the good use of high mega pixels
@@ElijahGaviola do you know what I mean by cropping a picture? You can crop a high-resolution photo down to a low resolution. Think of it like digital zoom.

Smartphone and Action Cam (GoPro) are always the best option in most situation especially in restricted area such as Airport, or some museum, or hospital. They both are less eye-catching and giving alert to any security guard.
No doubt for truly camera system (DSLR/mirrorless), all of them give us freedom to gain what we want on the photo. Surely they need to be in camera-enthusiast and/or professional.
I am using both of them accordingly to situation as I describe above.
Any way, good review, bro.
There is no size fits all camera for now, and they each have their own use-cases to fit different situations as you pointed out. Thanks for dropping us a very well written comment, and thanks for sharing your point of view.

on the Vii there should also be a new setting which disables the artificial 5min limit to run until real thermal limit is reached, but cant say for sure as i only got the Vi (i looked it up now, its in menu setup3 first row)
Jeremy Toh , you know you can turn off the 5 minute 4K recording limit by removing the high temp shut off, right?
99% of ppl dont know anything about tech lol they buy whatever cameras on phones are so bad. they can easily get a $300 dollar phone and a real camera. its funny they even compare phones cameras and look which has better color lol they can take a real camera video and do tons of color editing with all that dynamic range on real cameras
I like your way of comparing. Good job man. 👍
I appreciate that!
