Hello! Love this tutorial, but ran into some challenges with the technology. I don't see that iPhone has the WB option. Also, seems Photoshop Mix has been discontinued and Adobe is recommending Photoshop Express. Might you update the tutorial and demonstrate the same steps?
What a thorough and fantastic video! I love the budget friendly options! I appreciate the details, the description of everything, and the visual content of putting it all together. The best product photography I have ever seen on RUclips. Thank you so much!
Love this! I appreciate how it's a photoshoot that is truly on a budget. I just started an Etsy shop and I was in huge need of better quality photoshoots. Thank you for this!! :)
Amazing I just started a small soap shop and my pictures were not captivating at all. I can't wait to try your tips and hopefully get some traffic to my page
Hey, Louis! Great question. The white paper in this example is to create a nice neutral background, to avoid any distraction from the product itself. It is also beneficial to use a white surface to help reflect natural light from the sun back onto the product when you are shooting near the window. Feel free to check out this Shopify blog for more info: bit.ly/30BRWib. Let us know if you have any questions.
Can you recommend a smartphone? I right in the middle of sourcing the right phone for food photography, but do not know exactly what to get. I hear a Google phone takes great pictures, but they are pretty expensive. Please tell me the one you would recommend?
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. I suggest searching for 'Photoshop' in the IOS App Store and see if it appears there. If you still can't find it and are looking for the best way to edit photos, we’ve put together this list of the best paid and best free photo editors online here: utm.guru/ue1AD
Hi, Sherry! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed it. If you're interested, feel free to refer to our Shopify Blog article that provides more detailed information on smartphone product photos. You can find it here: shopify.link/bnPn.
"The higher the megapixels, the better"....Not true, A high number of megapixels in a small sensor introduce noise, and those photos will only look good on that phone, less megapixels means that the sensor have better dynamic range and better light performance.
If you have the coaster standing up, then use 45-degree side lighting so that the face would become brighter without causing a spot glare when your camera is in front of it. Position your camera slightly higher so that you are shooting slightly down at your product. This will eliminate reflections and allow for a flattering angle of your product. Alternatively you could also use two diffused lights set at the same brightness to softly illuminate the product. Position your camera on its tripod so that you are shooting slightly down at the product. Lastly, try to block any reflections coming from behind the camera that may accidentally reflect more light back onto the subject. Hope this helps!
If I am taking images to use on various ecommerce sites, do I crop the image on the phone or crop in Photoshop etc? I have heard different answers. I am photographing t-shirts with props such as flowers, jeans, and shoes on the same image. I end up needing some of the outer areas cropped out. I am using an Samsung S22 Ultra smartphone.
Hi Barbra! You can use either the phone or the computer. Whichever you are more comfortable with. I do recommend ensuring that you are cropping your photos to the same size/dimension as other photos of the same type on your store. This will ensure your images line up nicely.
@@learnwithshopify I am kind of new at this. When you say same size and dimension do you mean the same pixel size or aspect ratio can you be a little more specific please thank you so much.
No problem, Barbra. We're here to help! We recommend cropping your images to the same aspect ratio to ensure each image is proportional. Let us know if you have any other questions!
I use a WD 20TB My Book Duo Desktop RAID External Hard Drive. But I edit and store a lot of videos, so that might be a bit overkill for your needs. Any 2TB to 8TB harddrive that has either Thunderbolt 3 or USB C should be fine!
Really great and informative video tutorial. I make gold and silver jewelry and find it difficult to get a great shot, the shiny metal is so reflective, it appears I need a box like structure which would block out the natural light. Any thoughts. One last thought any way you can get a 300 dpi shot using a smart phone. Thanks

The app you were using isn't available anymore. Now it's Adobe and it looks different. There was no option to add a layer of color. Could you make a new tutorial with the new app?
My photos after uploaded to Shopify website, they seems to be in a reduced quality, the colors are not as sharp? Is there a reason why this is happening ? Or is it because of my Shopify theme ?
Hi there. It looks like the app "Photoshop Mix" may be removed from the app store, but Photoshop still has other photo editing apps you can use instead. Alternatively, we have some photo editing apps in the Shopify app store you can use as well: bit.ly/3MMlFs3.
Also You are going to want to place a white reflective board behind your product and put light onto it. That way your product is Backlit. What if my product is white? It losses the structure while putting white cardboard!!!
Add black cardboard or black fabric on one side instead. This will cause a "negative fill" which will give your product dimensionality.
Also You are going to want to place a white reflective board behind your product and put light onto it. That way your product is Backlit. This will make the background brighter and cause the edges of the product to be seen.
You can use a white bounce board to brighten the shadows of the object.
