He's been called a peacemaker, comedian and ever-loyal friend. The late Bishop David O'Connell worked with Los Angeles police and community leaders and shepherded the city's most violent gang neighborhoods. Friends say he even used his salary to pay the rent for others and would drop everything for someone in need. Pastor of Saint Cornelius Parish in Long Beach, California and personal friend to Bishop O'Connell, Fr. Jay Cunnane, joins to talk about their friendship and the work the 2 of them did together. Fr. Jay discusses what his reaction was when he first heard of Bishop O'Connell's passing and what went through his mind. In addition to his work with immigrants, Bishop O'Connell was right there in the thick of the gang neighborhoods in Los Angeles. He chose to be there. Fr. Jay tells us more about that and his ability to reach gang members, prostitutes and the poor. He was also a comedian, always making people laugh even when they least expected it. Fr.
