I wish I understood Linux better and I could stop using windows but I like gaming, and I dont think ALL games work on Linux, do they?? Like AAA titles (COD for example)
@@TVmadethemdoit Generally anything with anticheat throws a hissy-fit when you put it on Linux.
I suggest you consider learning Linux by having two separate computers: one for play, and one for programming and scripting? If you do not like the idea of scripting, be comforted by the fact that I also did not find it very interesting, but I gradually came to appreciate it as a tool for customisation and even automation.
The gaming environment has definitely improved by leaps and bounds from when I first started using Linux about six or seven years ago. Back then only very few games supported Linux, and those were generally small independent titles. Nowadays almost everything in my library runs well, with the only exceptions being Elite: Dangerous and IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad. Ironically, IL-2 1946 runs perfectly on Linux through Proton (AKA SteamPlay).
Not that I could play them, since I had a Raspberry Pi Model B, but anyway.

After watching Luke for 2 years I have just now realized he's the Shamwow guy of command line programs
Luke youre wizzard is great! I remember setting up Mutt on my debian system a couple of years ago. It was hard work to set it up correctly, but it was worth the effort. I really love it, thanks for your work!!!!
US military: air superiority!
Luke: e-mail superiority!
I love your sense of humor man. I watch your videos because they're helpful but I find that I mostly click on them because find it generally entertaining. So it's a perfect mix!
How about you start doing what's in the video for a change?
@@BadAssBlackOverlord lmao
@@BadAssBlackOverlord Really? That's what you're gonna say? Didn't I just say "I watch your videos because they're useful"? I'm honestly confused why you even the get the idea that I don't use what he showed in the video. I use dwm, st, dunst, neovim, and many more minimal software and most of the configuration is heavily inspired by Luke. I am right now even in the process of fully configuring mutt-wizard. How about you start reading English properly for a change?
I'm really enjoying your videos Luke! I'm a long time linux dabbler ... I took a linux course at a local university way back in the early 90s and have been hooked ever since. I recently graduated to ArcoLinux and the Awesome window manager (which I LOVE!!) and am now trying to install your mail system. Not having much luck lol but I'm gonna get it. :))
Give it a few more months and systemd will have its own built-in email client. systemctl buttwizard
I'm still at the nano level of linux, this is an interesting insight. Thanks Luke
Thanks for this, I really wanted to get a proper email system on linux and you make everything alot easier. Now I dont have to think, just consoom!
I have been using mutt-wizard, thanks a lot for your effort. It works wonderful!
Hi Luke
Well I agree with your 5 advantages. I have a PC running freebsd and set up with an email server from one of your earlier videosm. I will follow your lead on this. Perhaps my security is not up to speed but using a vpn with mine has reduced spam mail and tracking to almost zero.
Keep up the good work.
Cool software review. **upvotes**

Nice, it's the mutt wizard drawing I made back in the forum days, glad it didn't go to waste
You didn't make that drawing stop lying.
@@BadAssBlackOverlord ...
I tried to connect my work email in mutt wizard and it worked perfectly. But it created a lot of useless folders. Is there any way to delete these folders from mutt? I just want inbox, sent and trash folders. Thanks a lot Luke.
One your account's config in `~/.config/mutt/accounts/` and edit the `mailboxes` command to determines what mutt sees as a mailbox. You might also want to edit `~/.mbsyncrc` and you can specify which boxes you want to sync on the `Patterns` call.
I have my main account say `Patterns INBOX` (maybe Inbox for you) which only ever syncs my inbox.
Thank you so much for mutt-wizard!!!!!!!!
You forgot about common email interface, having email offline avoids syncing with the browser that you are using and allows you to read many messages from different addresses in a common inbox
Got me. I'm going to give it a try.
mutt-wizard is amazing! I was really hesitant to switch to it at first, but now I can't stand thunderbird, not to mention webmail. I'm looking forward to giving you e-mail server a shot. Great job!
@@Universe822 It's not that I don't like it. It's a very good piece of software. It is just sooo much better to use your e-mail vim style. All that clicking seems so unnecessary once you switch. It's smooth, fast and much better for backups. I also use the ability to pipe emails and do stuff with them. But take a careful look before you switch. In my case it turned out that mutt provides exactly all I need. You may miss something. Thunderbird is blo after all.
I've noticed this Knight swag Luke's been wearing lately. I'd like to consoom some.
Hello Luke! Mutt Wizard looks so great, I tried mutt before but your script gives so many more options to play with it. Subscribed!!
I was curious about how you would go about downloading the email from google and moving it where is not sync with the remote server (but that would be cool if I knew how to bring all my local emails back to life if my computer died and I have to bring Mutt and the local inbox back to life in a new one)
But you cant view an email with an image on the body. Right? That's 99 percent of email I get.
Very nice Luke 👍🏻✝️💪🏻
"can we just remove email from the internet and just use twitter to communicate?" t. a zoomer
This but unironically
@@hans2574 %100. It's the most bullshit communication system ever. The reason for people not switching is because it's not "professional".
@Fallen Archangel The only problem with email is that it’s not designed to be secure. Sure there is a lot that can be added to make it more secure, but at it’s root it’s not secure. (Although I would not trust twitter more).
@@PatrikKron
>zoomer implying that twitter is more secure
Back when I was in college I tried to make this same argument to my professor. He responded that nothing else on the internet could ever work like email since there's no time limit on responding. Every other communication system implies if you send a message you are entitled to a response. That totally changed the way I thought about the internet.
My Outlook works fine for me.
5. Compose email lightning fast in Vim that runs in the terminal.

Please do a video on Lynx as well.
It there a way to have the "snooze" function from gmail in (neo)mutt ?
That's nice but i need to accept / reject / remind me about meeting invitations, which mutt doesn't seem doing (maybe that exists but quick googling didn't provide results)
i am sticking ro thunderbird for now
Do you ever sync your local directory back to your email server? Or do you only ever pull? Then does your laptop have the only copy of the state of your email directory?
TBH I'm still using Eudora :)
You're right
this channel should br called Mutt Wizard
Hey Luke, maybe you can go give the Aerc email client a tryout and show your fine audience how it's similar/different than Mutt?

Hi Luke, can you share what desktop environment, WM, theme etc you're using on your desktop?

Hi Luke!
How is the Data stored?
Are alle eMails in one huge file or can i store each emails extra also in projektsdirectoris?
So i´d like to store each email like a file.

I want to do all of this stuff but I still can't come up with a good solution for backing up my PGP keys and backing up my data. Are you guys backing up this stuff locally on hard drives or in cloud servers?
Can you offline send mail and sync latter. Have not found a way to do this. Would probably have to modify the sendmail command in mutt/neomutt
Feel the same but instead of isync and mutt I use protonmail bridge, isync, and mu4e(emacs)
To archive Gmail's INBOX :
Tag all emails, but typing
T~A
and hit ENTER
Then type
;s+[Gmail]/All Mails
Hint use TAB for pathname completion.
Hit "Y" or ENTER for conformation.
IF everything went smoothly. all tagged emails will be marked for "Delete" and will be pirge when you type "$" or quting mutt.
If we want to delete only the Old emails. tag the old emails by typeing
T~O
and follow rest of the steps.
If you want to copy the tagged emails to 'external'\/local use "C"opy .. example
;C/path/to/local/email
This is my way to copy/archive my remote emails to my local path.
Learn how to use "tag" and "limit" features. It is very powerful and very convinient.
Thank you.
what about exchange support ?
how did you configure 4:35 command: “se” to search your system for files
Great vid, what is an Ubuntu?
if the email arrived in the inbox on any cloud provider, they have access to it, even if you "move" it to an other folder not synced. They have already had access, or can have access because the email is not moved, but only shown as moved to you.
pgp encryption solves this issue
@@OliNorwell correct, but you assume that your correspondant will make some efforts to ensure your privacy. This is also not applicable for some website/application, like banking website, online services, ... that, usually, can not user gpg to communicate with you (at least, all the services I use and know).
how about hosting your own email service? can u do a video on that?
All good and well. And then I try read mail in a right to left language... and everything's messed up. :(

Will you make a video about pam-gnupg?
How many people would I trigger if I use isync to have email offline and then open it in a web browser?
Hey Luke, was just wondering, if your gpg-agent passphrase cache expires and isync gets triggered by a cronjob, will you get a prompt for your passphrase out of nowhere?
pam-gnupg
@@michaelpercival2787 Hm... I thought that even with pam-gnupg it expires eventually but never tried it myself yet
oh-my-mutt
Cringe. Deleting it now.
what if my email system is exactly like yours?
What about inline images?
Hi,
first of all, thank you Luke for great videos.
I can't use mutt's browser to attach file after changing mail folder (account)? Probably not related with mutt wizard.
Does anyone else have the same problem?
My problem with terminal email clients (which actually isn't really a problem with the client) is that too many people nowadays aren't just sending plaintext emails. I've tried several times, but I've always had to stop using mutt, because most of the emails I received were full of HTML that was borderline unparsable (as in, even with something like lynx, the email was barely legible at best). Maybe this is a tech boomer take but I wish people would stop filling their emails with heaps of HTML garbage when plaintext (or just simple HTML) would do the trick.
Idk a GUI email client is p nice

How do I install Mutt on Windows ME?
gnu Vivaldi is packing an email client and feeds reader , how about that ?
luke please make an IRC server for us chads
Make a video on pam-gnupg for brainlets, i installed it but still need to type my password for running mw sync
indexing!!!
Most of these features you get with any decent email client (not webmail, local client). e.g. kmail.
Also, don't say offline email has anything to do with security, everything goes through a server anyway, you're just keeping an offlince copy, so it's nothing to do with security.

Hey guys, I'm a university freshman, currently undeclared, but I plan to major in Computer Science. I talked to an upperclassman who is very talented and skilled in coding and, frankly, anything related to Computer Science. He was fully pro Linux and almost converted me from a Windows user to a Linux until I realized that I couldn't play all the games I normally play. I am a blank slate when it comes to coding. I wanted to start with Java. When it came to text editors, my previously mentioned friend approved Vim, but it felt peculiar and janky with Windows. I was wondering whether there were useful and effective alternatives to Vim for Windows 10. I read about NeoVim, but my friend doesn't know much about it, and he showed me this channel, saying how useful Luke's content was. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me any good and free Vim alternatives for a Windows user. Thanks for reading, have a great day!
Honestly, if you must stay with Windows and not used to Vim then VS Code or Visual Studio is ok. They may be bloated, but W10 is bloat anyway.
On a side note, i wouldn't recommend Java first tho, i think you should learn C or assembly to really understand computers if you are passionate about the topic. If you go into CS, they make you learn some of this anyway.
About linux: You could still dual boot. Or if you have 2 gpus, you can run a W10 virtual machine from linux with minimal performance loss (kvm+gpu passtrough)
@@somusz159 Thank you for the reply. I am using an old Omen laptop with 8 gb ram and gtx nvidia 1050. I love Linux and I think I have an integrated gpu too so I will definitely look into dual booting. Another friend told me to start with java, but I see what you mean with C. Would you happen to know any free effective websites to learn C? I am currently in my first semester and in introductory classes, so they haven't taught us anything except for a bit of HTML. I love how simple and skill based Vim is, so if I can manage to learn and set up a dual boot for Linux, I will definitely stick with Vim. Thanks.
@@breads4597 Idk about websites, sorry. I'd recommend the classic "The C programming language" by Brian Kernighan and Dennis M. Ritchie.
Or the magpi essentials book about C (forgot the exact name). The latter is even easier to find as an ebook.
@@somusz159 Thank you so much! Have a great weekend!
@@breads4597 Thanks, and good luck about CS!

The boomers new math, 4=5.
What about email that uses HTML? For me this is the biggest issue using Mutt and why I keep moving to thunderbird
mutt can autoview any file in with whatever command you want. In mutt-wizard, it shows HTML automatically via a lynx dump. You can still open the HTML attachment and it will open it in your GUI browser if you are getting some terrible soydev email.
Opinionated boomer disparages bloat soy email which does not adhere to intended use guidelines
Hey luke, Could you explain how to make (access) 2fa for mutt in a future video? Multi account and 2fa is the only reasons why I still get stuck in thunderbird
