@BlackPanthaa To each their own then, I suppose. They just feel so good to me, like I always know where my car will go. With the newer games half the time, I have to guess if my car is going to understeer or oversteer going into most corners. It's just not fun for me.
Yeah it's more interesting to race in Underground 2 And Carbon, The modern take on racing games is such a killjoy since they prefer "hyper realism" (though it's less realistic than these older games ironicall)
I don't get the dated physics argument these games ran on ps2s but had more detailed physics compared to any nfs relased in the last 10 years. Go edit game files in nfs vlted there are suspension stiffnes values, tire grip values, weight, basic aero and aero coefficents, engine torque, rpm, the power the car makes in certain rpm range, gearbox efficency and actual gear ratios and stuff. Cars behave realistically but exaggerated like forza horizon but with more grip little bit more arcadey.
@@cin2110 Tried running this with a laptop RTX3060. This mod is very demanding for its own good. I can play more modern games with RTX enabled lol. (Have a desktop 4070 as well seems not to be worth it then)
The PS2 version actually would have looked better here since you showed the pc version on what looks like low settings... At least ALL of the reflections are missing
Everything is missing on that comparison. Also, console versions (even PS2 versions) of 2000's NFS were always is somewhat ahead of lazy PC ports: better particles system, native widescreen, correct post-processing, etc.
This was the game that I played on the PSP as a little kid and I could not remember the name of it for YEARS until I saw the title a while ago. This was a core memory
Games like Underground captured the whole car scene and culture at the time and took it to new heights. I remember in underground 2, doing magazine shoots and placing your car in any way you wanted, wheels turned, open doors bonnet boot etc, brand sponsors and prize money and just all that involvement! Nothing matches it - everything was tuner heavy, sounds too, each car sounded so ‘modified’ and it brings you that early nostalgia feeling new games can’t do even if they tried, I feel now it’s all different compared to these older games - the feeling was just different
This looks great, feels as good as 2015. Only thing is I wish the whole game drove the way it drives in the drag racing, I just love the feeling of speed there.
I played this need for speed game a long time back. I think there was a motion blur and particle effect which was good VFX considering hardware limitations. The game was easy to learn as I had NFS Porsche Unleashed game copy and that NFS game felt like a driving simulator😅.
Looks good, except the things that we would fake back then, light headlights and tail lights. They're not emitting enough light. And yes, Burnout should be back to TRACKS, not that travesty in Paradise.
Best thing about Underground, other than being the best game in the series up to this point, is the underglow effect. They should have keept that option in all NFS games from this point. Dont take away stuff. Only add.
The RTX Remix mod for Underground 2 now also has car reflections ^^ It's in a bit of a further stage than the Underground 1 mod, so it does look nice overall, but I think that the Underground 1 mod does have some stuff that looks better (the rear lights for instance in Underground 2 just don't look right yet with the mod) I love both these mods though. I think the original games have a very good style going for them but it's awesome to see them with realistic lighting and shadows, especially the shadows (since they were basically absent in the original games). Drifting on a track that's only lit by the lights at the corners now feels like you're actually at an abandoned car park or something, it's awesome
These mods will look even more impressive in a few years or so once they start updating the textures with PBR shaders and making models much more denser polygon wise. The RTX Remix allows to do that.
Tbh if we are to do an RTX Remix for any Need for Speed game the one that stands to get the most benefit would be the Shift series as it tries to emulate a very realistic art style not to mention its age being more recent
@@BlackPanthaa yup and they destroyed the handling after those games. right now every car feels same but drive at different speeds and too snappy + drifting is soooo bad that i dont play new need for speed titles anymore. why they dont make it more close to forza horizon or old nfs carbon idk. but if they are gonna continue doing that badly i probably will never return to nfs. I hope they fix it after unbound.
I REMEMBER if i say i want underground physics i mean i want underground physics. This game was incredibly competitive in its time. People would run time trials on the xbox and would have lan party tournaments, if you were a wall rider to get your time you would get cooked.
just finished this game out of nostalgia as I have had played it many times before when i was a kid but wasn't able to complete it only because of my younger skillset it feels so good to achive something that has been left undone for years❤❤ not to mention that AI was such a cheating B*tch almost had my ass crying to win at 6 lap races💀💀
Hmm, seems alot like in alpha stages. Since the performance suffers alot. And it does not look as good as I would expect from a RTX title. But I do find the overall track look quite decent. But still not sure if its actually realistic. You see the effect they seem to go for is the Global Illumination. This is why its "blurry" that's my guess at least. But the problem is that they seem to be using the reflection model instead. While they should be using the diffusion model. So everything kind of looks metallic. I have a sharp eye for this, since I closely work with this type on rendering techniques. I have learned from the professionals, that you should make the global illumination as static as possible, since there is very little movement in that type of lighting. And then add a layer of reflection equations for the reflective surfaces. A further read about IBL and PBR techniques should help you understand what I mean by this. There is a lot of special techniques used in the underground 1 and underground 2 that made real time road reflections possible in the first place, without the need for actual ray tracing. If you want to discuss this further, then try contacting me and have a discussion about this. As otherwise this comment gets too long, when I try to explain my opinions in depth.
Mod looks pretty bad and low effort, they need to manually set up each light individually, make new car models with correct RTX materials and new environment models. They did the bare minimum and it shows lol. There's no point in using RTX remix if you aren't going to use any of its good features. Original at 4k still looks better than the low effort mod :/.
I have a problem. When I start it, the loading screen appears briefly and then the crash screen, but the in-game mouse can still be moved. My hardware Intel Core i7 9700k/ RTX 3060/ 32GB RAM widescreen fix is set to 1080p 60fps
Looks like the original game on low settings with all post-processing off, but sprinkled with RTX to the point you can barely see any difference. WTF with all these comments and glorifying that garbage? RTX Remix simply doesn't work without total rework of the game assets and engine, especially the older pre-physical based rendering titles.
I LOVE NFS underground 1+2 but I can not get them to run on my PC at ALL all the guides I have looked up never work, the only way I can still Play them is by Emulating my PS2 versions from back in the day
when you compare the two you are using the lowest settings, on the rtx version you dont have as much reflections as you do in original on high settings.
I think it needs some brightness tweaks as in turning it up somewhat. Played some Unbound in single player I think multi kinda sucks. Takes too long to get into a decent race in multi but they can play multi I dont care. Used a car that is new to me the Pagani Huayra BC 2017. I think it can be quite unstable in turns. It's not too bad though with some tweaks. Not the best car I think.
00:38 the original unmodded looks actually newer that the modded one. Also the environment was just toned down to hide the bad graphics. This is less hype than it promised.
Bro but my question is will Underground one and Two be playable on the PlayStation 5 pro because it would be disappointing if it won't I mean Need for speed been on PlayStation platform for a very long time since the very beginning of the first PlayStation if I do recall and remember 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I think this just goes to show that older games especially PS2 era games don’t need complete graphic overhauls and remasters. I think the original graphics Underground 1 and 2 are better than these rtx mods. In my opinion with the new graphics, these games lose a lot of their charm because it doesn’t even look or feel like the same game.
original still looks better and when you show comparison with original theres definetly not the max video settings, cause theres no reflexions, but actually original graphix looks way better and has a ton of reflecting surfaces
Too dark. Honestly, that dark tunnel part would have looked better if they had proper use of the headlights. When you ran through there, it was like you were running with the head lights off
Take the comparison with a grain of salt, I forgot to turn the reflections back on... (mod needs them off) 🫠
With a big T spoon..but just don't get us wait too long Black P ❤
@BlackPanthaa .😭😭PLEASE LET CREW MOTOR FEST KNOW I WANT THE TOYOTA LAND CRUISER 7O SERIES
Wish we could see the Cybertruck in NFS UNDERGROUND RTX Mod.
Nfs underground 1 was my introduction to the nfs franchise seeing it with new graphics makes me rlly happy
Hope the RTX mod also fix the rubberbanding which is a massive problem on the original version.
What this mod lacks is the front lights of the car. It would fix a lot of problems with dark places
4:01 this area looks amazing
That mantis widebody kit on the skyline is just so good.
The mantis widebody kit even in the original version also looked nice.
*Honesty, this mod needs some work. I prefer the original.*
I NEED MY WET ROAD REFLECTIONS

Oh yes, my favorite racing game. This mod isn't perfect yet, but it's a great start! Thanks for the video, Theo.

These "arcade kids" and fanboys will never admit that let alone even accept the truth......😔🙏🏾💙
So true, this is the arcade gameplay we all want back in a nfs game, not that "modern" physic they had done past years where you drift all the time
