I loved when Mama sighed and was like "OK, history time kids..."
Wasn't it high school musical?
@@readhistory2023 I remember the TV show but not the movie. Now I'm curious.
High School Musical, Glee....neither can come within miles and miles of FAME.,...one of a kind show 🕊️
@@Herbert04 You should definitely check it out. It's grittier than the tv series with many standout iconic moments.
Comic book artist Tom Scioli has a RUclips channel called 'The Total Recall Show' and he recently did a tribute episode to Irene Cara and the 'Fame' movie. It's fun to listen to him, a real fan of the movie, talk about his memories: ruclips.net/video/NVFe5tbTZUM/видео.html
I really choked up when she said "I'm gonna make it to heaven". Voice of an angel, R.I.P. Irene.
She's gonna live forever though.
I haven't even heard what she died of....63 is too young.
I listen to the song over 30 times the day she died, I watched so many different videos of this song and The song What a feeling
TV show was based on the movie Fame. Irene Cara played Coco and was very good in the role. Great singer and underrated actress.
I used to watch the TV show from the time it started to the time it ended. Janet Jackson was on it it was just great
Irene Cara was the first person to make me dream. In a terrible and painful childhood, there was no time for dreamin. It was all survivin. Real life tends to stay, once you get put there. Dreams are for fools. And then Irene Cara, the movie Fame, Flashdance.. those were all responsible for helping an abused little girl child dream about life beyond her pain. Now that's some fkn skills... to be pulling someone out of that.. with the gift of her voice, writing, songs. RIP Queen.
🫶🙏❣
Preach it girl. God bless and pay it forward. Help everyone you can.
Agreed. She, and the movie, was a huge inspiration to many. The world is a sadder place without her.
I hope you’ve been able to achieve those dreams, or at least to move a little closer toward them and to a better place.
Same. I wasn't abused, but my childhood wasn't easy and Fame (both the movie and TV series) helped me hold onto hope. Flashdance, too.
Fame was a 1980 movie about students at Fiorello LaGuardia High, also known as the New York City High School for the Performing Arts. It's a real school whose alumni include Robert De Niro, Jennifer Aniston, Liza Minnelli and Nicki Minaj. The movie was fictional, following some of the students who aspired to stardom. Irene Cara played the role of Coco Hernandez in the film and also sang this title song. The song captured the spirit of the students determined to make sure people remember their names.
A very distinctive feature of this song is the background vocals that trail out the word "remember" after the line "baby, remember my name." It was Luther Vandross who came up with that part and sang it with backup singers Vivian Cherry and Vicki Sue Robinson (of "Turn The Beat Around" renown). Vandross was not yet a solo star, but was in demand as a backup vocalist. He was the contractor on this session, meaning he was in charge of the backup vocals. Dean Pitchford explained in his Songfacts interview: "He came in, listened down to the track. We got to the end of the chorus and he said, 'Back it up, back it up! Check this out.' And Irene Cara sang, 'Baby remember my name,' and he went, 'Remember, remember, remember...' and we all went, 'Oh! That's terrific!' Luther Vandross is the one who not only came up with 'remember, remember, remember...' but he also stacked the voices on top of, 'I'm going to learn how to fly high.' He did that. He made a couple of other contributions around the edges, but the 'remember' was the major one."

PA, PCS, LSA, Quintanno's, etc... we all knew each other. It was a different time in the 70s. Still stay in contact with a lot of them.
I love watching your mom really getting into it and of course, Lex enjoying it, then there is Brad looking like he's watching paint dry!
He's concentrating on the complicated lyrics, plus also maybe Irene's tight jeans.
Irene was a triple threat.. she could sing, dance and act!! the record industry destroyed her career because she took a producer to court and won because they didn't want to pay her...
That's so sad coz She is the 🐐 GOAT
Sing it Momma! I loved this song. Irene Cara gone too soon. She has some great hits in the early 80's
The TV show was ahead of its time. Really showed the struggles of people who are aspiring singers/dancers.
true! I think it would be a hit still today.
“Fame”, the theatrical movie and song, were both released in May, 1980. The song peaked at No. 4 that September, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, and launched Cara’s career. It’s been years since I’ve seen it, but my recollection is even though it was an ensemble cast, Cara had one of the bigger roles. The TV Series which Cara was not involved in ran for two seasons on NBC (‘82-‘83) and returned for more seasons in syndication. (You old-timers will know what that means.)
Cara charted a bunch more times, her biggest hit being “Flashdance… What a Feeling”, which spent 14 weeks in the Top Ten, six of those at No. 1. (I’m not sure how impressive that sounds with the way music charts are tabulated today, but in 1983 it was the 3rd biggest song of the year.) More notably, as co-writer and performer, Cara won the Grammy for Best Female Vocal Performance, and Academy Award for Best Original Song. Cara also had big or minor hits with “Out Here On My Own”, “The Dream”, “Why Me”, and “Breakdance”, while continuing to act on stage and screen. She won a lawsuit against record executives for withholding her royalties from Flashdance, but felt she was then blacklisted from the industry for being “difficult” as a result of the suit.
RIP 🙏 Irene. I am getting old watching and seeing the celebrities I grew up watching pass away.
Don't worry, at some point you won't have to watch them pass away any longer.
Same here. My dad used to say the older you get, life starts giving you less people but, taking more of them away.
I understand now, dad. RIP.
@ckobo84 Yeah, I 76 years of age, and both my parents lived into their nineties, so I'll be happy to get another 15 to 20 years, lol 😆 😄
1980 movie -- Fame.
1982-1987 TV series -- Fame.
Debbie Allen was in both. Irene Cara was only in the movie, but not the tv series.
These were all SO GOOD!
I loved these. My time
Music is a time machine, it is amazing how it can transport you back in time. RIP Irene, fly high
Brad & Lex, Couch Mama gave you the scoop on the TV show the movie spawned!!
This was the tv show theme song, sung by Erica Gimpel for 4 seasons and Loretta Chandler for 2 seasons.
I love your Mom's reaction.
How can you not to Irene Cara 🎆🎇👍
Wow, great performance. Irene Cara was looking good too.
perhaps the most famous Puertorican singer, actress and dancer from the 80!! ... and lots of charisma and very cute!
Absolutely love it when Mom joins you. She is fun. Adds a lot to your dynamic. One of my favorite channels!
Heaven is a better place with Irene there. RIP beautiful lady.
Fame was originally a movie that got turned into a TV show. Irene Cara was in the movie in addition to singing the theme song
I forget how beautiful Irene Cara was. Such a beautiful soul as well.
'I sing the body electric' is another awesome song from the movie Fame
Her music and voice shall live forever. No doubt.
Love this song. Irene Cara was also in the original Sparkle. She also has a song from this same movie, Out Here On My Own.
I remember playing that on the piano with this girl, Susan, in college. Just the two of us. It was a moment.
Out Here On My Own is actually my favorite song. It really captures the struggle and loneliness of trying to make a name for yourself, by yourself.
It's really difficult to not sing along. I feel your pain, Mom. 🙏🏼🤗
Flashdance(What a Feeling) is a fantastic song as well
Love the singer and the song, but my favorite part of this reaction was when Lex's mom was explaining about Fame TV show and Brad asked "Like High School Musical?" and Mom said "Eh!!! But yea". My sentiments exactly! Lol
So beautiful and talented. A real inspiration.
Hi mom! Love your energy! BTW: love this song. Irene Cara was a well-rounded talent. Singer, songwriter, actress, producer - she literally did it all and did it superbly.
Plus she had an amazing booty 🍑, who knew?
Irene Cara was great. I was hooked on the series 'Fame'. Early 80's. Enjoyed it very much. Greetings from the Netherlands
she was really famous..this song was huge and the show was great ...the paper chase for art students..and it was based on the real school..
I'm glad mom was there to explain things. I used to look forward to watching Fame every week.
Everyone loved her music and she was an actress too. She was such a humble person that everyone loved her. She also sang the theme to Flashdance. You have to watch the opening video to Fame the TV show and the trailer to Fame the movie. Music will never be as pure as this no more !
Mama is a true fan of Irene, bet she moved and all like Irene when she was young, you can see the enthusiasm and fun she doing it during the video.
For us kids in the '80s, Fame was THE SHOW! And this song was a worldwide anthem for all the young people who were dreaming of being famous for dancing, singing, acting, etc...
This show was really a masterpiece and you should watch it, it's amazing!
awesome beautiful singer ! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
You guys are terrific. Opposites attract! Brad you have a very cute girl there, and Lex, Brad seems like a very solid foundation. I really enjoy your reactions to the various sounds. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Fame was the 1980 film which lead to the TV series on NBC in 1982 which introduced Debbie Allen as a choreographer which led to her directing episodes.
The show was canceled in 1983 which led to a four year run in syndication ending in 1987.
Great to see ‘Mom’ in the video, as someone of my generation it was cool to see her reaction. This is the best music reaction channel on RUclips, have watched for over a year now.
Fame the movie got me into dance class in northern England in the 80s, listening to Michael Jackson, we had a big soul and Motown community anyway, northern soul keep the faith, but this movie and tv series had, and still has a big influence on my life so thank you for doing this reaction
I was eleven in 1980 when this song and the film hit. Good memories.
Fame the movie came before the TV show. The TV show was based on the movie and this song was the main theme for both. And yes, both were based on a real performing arts high school in New York city. The storylines were much more real and gritty than High School Musical and Glee. And Irene Cara also starred in the movie as student Coco Hernandez as well as singing both hits from the movie which were both nominated for awards (Fame and Out Here On My Own). Debbie Allen was in the movie too, but most of her part ended up getting cut out but got a much bigger part in the TV series as the dance teacher. After the TV series, there was a Broadway stage musical with new characters and songs. Then in the 90s, there was a kind of spin-off sequel TV series called Fame LA which followed new characters trying to make it in show biz (music was great, but it didn't last long). Then there was A Fame reality show competition co-hosted by Debbie Allen, where contestants had to excel as singers and dancers. It only lasted one season. Finally, they rebooted the movie with new characters and mostly new songs and Debbie Allen played the principal. It didn't do too well but the dance performances were outstanding.
Before the tv show was the movie. She was Cocoa in the movie as well. The tv show was such a worldwide success, that the cast toured the world doing live performances. After the show ended the cast would get together on occasion hosting events for the fans. Some of them are posted on RUclips. That cast was beloved. Janet Jackson was part of the cast for a year. She started her solo singing carrer on her own terms after that, hence the song Control.
Loved, loved, loved watching Fame in the 80's. Danny, Bruno, Coco, Gene Anthony Ray, Holly - were ALL so talented. Guys please check out Starmaker from the Fame soundtrack. It is my all time fave song from the show - but their musical from 83 is ALL fantastic! RIP to the beautiful Irene Cara
I REMEMBER THE SHOW WHICH WAS SHOWN ON BBC IN THE EARLY 80'S!!
Great pop tune. I was a working musician when this came out and played it many times at weddings, etc... RIP Irene.
What a babe! Irene Cara is the business.
This came out when I was 7, and it is one of my favorites. The movie is good too! She was one of a kind. Hello from northeast Ohio.
jepp. and the song "Out here on my own" from that same Movie sung by her ist just heartbreaking.
The movie is not about dancing. its about becoming adult. making decisions about your life. aof succeding, failing and standing up again.
Now Irene Cara is on another stage.
She arrived, her music will live forever,Remember her name
I'm right there with Mama lipsyncing and chair dancing right along!😘😘💖💖
This and Out Here On My Own are my absolute favorites.
RIP Miss Cara!
Mama was describing the show you could get a feel of the show and her amazing singing by covering her song, “hot lunch jam” from the same movie. It’s the entire school coming together to play a song that she sings on in the middle of lunch.
This song is awesome! My kids absolutely loves it.
She made it .. we will always remember her ... the movie was FAME ... The original .. it was great and the common person's intro to the performance high school.
R.I.P. Irene Cara, thank you for all your beautiful music and dance moves
love your mom's reaction ❤️ i love that song
She was so gorgeous
You have no idea how gorgeous my best friend Irene indeed was a Goddess. Perfection inner and outer beauty. I love those days with Irene and her being blackballed by Music Industry.
My favorite Irene Cara song is from the movie Fame (1984) Out Here On My Own.
Wow what a video! Thanks for the reminder of why we loved Irene Cara!
The show was also very much ahead of it's time. They dealt with controversial topics that no other network series would touch-- Teen Suicide, Poverty, Pregnancy scares, & it's the 1st time that an interracial couple had a serious story line on TV.
I was OBSESSED with Irene Cara's character "Coco". I wanted to BE her!
Love Couch Mama, her history is like mine in music and what we know and feel! She is always my twin on this channel! I sing along with her! I'm 61. This is an empowering song! Yes, those Jordache jeans and lord...the Candies slide shoes!
I think many of your best Reactions are when you have Mama with you! RIP to Irene. I looked the other day and still no public release of her cause of death. She was too young!
It was a movie 1st. Then a TV show. It was a real school of the arts.
This was one of our favorite songs to sing in high school choir class. On rare occasions we got to sing it as a reward for good behavior. There were no “parts” to sing. We just sang the song with all our hearts. But then managed to get in trouble for singing “rub my butt rub my butt” instead of “remember remember”.
Fame was also a 1980 Movie. It lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes. 😊😊
The show Fame was based on a group of Teachers and their students attending Julliard. The famous New York school for performing Arts.
My mom loved Fame. The show, film and song
This song went along with a movie and TV series about the High School of Performing Arts in NYC. That was my sister's HS.
She was an amazing singer. Beautiful too.!!!
This is what I call talent.
Moma has the moves!!
Fame is one of my all time favorite movies!! so good.
Also from the original "Fame" movie from 1980 are the great songs "Out Here on My Own," a ballad also by Irene Cara, and "I SIng the Boy Electric," featuring Irene Cara and the entire cast of high school students from the movie.
"Fame" was 1st a movie, then later a TV show. Irene also had a hit song in "Flashdance" though she wasn't in the movie.
I used to have a huge crush on Irene back in the early 80s. Rest in Peace angel.
Irene was the best! RIP
Remember her on The Electric Company.
Yes! I barely remember "Fame", but I remember and my mama, is just as passionate as Mamma Lex right here. I woulda gotten a clap on the back of my head if I said "High School Musical". Anyway "Flashdance" ya'll gotta do Flashdance. Another Irene Cara classic.
Well, she made it to heaven❤
My favorite show: Fame! 💜
You guys gotta do Out Here On My Own by Irene Cara. It's amazing and has another view of reaching for that dream of making it to stardom.
Y'all should check out the original movie, too! Mama would love to watch with you!😘😘💖💖👏👏👏
It was a movie starring Irene Cara. You should do "Out Here on My Own", "Hot Lunch Jam" and " I Sing The Body Electric". She also did Fladhdance
This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a kid in the 80's!
This was our dream song!
There is something so beautiful and simple and innocent in the dancing in this video and I could never put my finger on it until Lex explained it. She dances like no one’s watching …. no choreography, no costumes. Just her and the music.
This is the studio recording, by the way - I’m pretty sure the performance is a lip sync (which was common, back in the day). Notice there is no band or backup vocalists.
"You've got big dreams.
You want fame.
Well, fame costs.
And right here is where
you start paying: in sweat."
so catchy!
"She's talented" understatement of the century
I was feeling the vibe right along with you mama!! 💃🎶
Also, before the TV Show, was the movie this was the song for. It was about The Juliard School for the Performing Arts and the cost of fame.
First the movie and then the show came. Both were great.
Go on Irene! I was there with your mum, or maybe a little younger at the school, discos. Every time that chorus hit we'd all jump off the stage and shout 'fame'!!
Don't forget the movie was first. Irene starred as Coco in the film. Such a cutie, a shame she is gone,
Great movie and television show too
RIP Irene 🕊💜
The most ironic part is that nobody know that she died.... what an irony.
rip irene cara. had a crush on her in the 80s.
Mama gettin her life is a vibe!
There was also a movie "Fame", which happened before the TV show. But yes - mama KNOWS!
The song of a generation. People now don't understand how much it meant.
I used to love the TV show. "Fame" was a 1980 movie before it was a TV show. In the movie, Irene Cara played 'Coco' (yes, she's an actress as well as a singer). The song "Fame" was from the movie and, obviously, was performed by Irene Cara. Then they made a TV show "Fame". Some of the actors from the movie were also in the TV show, but Irene Cara was not in the TV show.
Wasn't Mrs. Huxtable's sister, Debbie Allen on that show?
@@revwillyg6450 Yes, Debbie Allen was in both the movie and the TV show (I didn't know she also played Mrs. Huxtable's sister, though). She had the famous "here's where you start paying...in sweat" line. Here's the opening of the TV show: ruclips.net/video/8lL4PKX0bYM/видео.html
Rock In Peace Irene.
