I have been using a set of these myself for a little over a week now. I have not had any issues with the binding posts on mine. As for the highs, generally they are okay. I have found them a bit grainy on some recordings. I agree with your overall assessment here. As for the midrange, it can sound wonderful on some recordings and too forward on others. So I agree with you here as well. As for the bass, I generally disagree here. I found the bass to be very good, tight and controlled. This may come down to the amplifier. I am using a John Curl designed Parasound amp with a lot of power and control. I think these are generally good speakers and a lot of value for the money. I did however find them to be tiresome over extended higher volume sessions. Maybe they need more time to break in? Comparing them to my Vienna Acoustics, there is no comparison. Then again they were one fifth the price. They are beautiful to look at however. Wife acceptance is high with these.
I love reading how many people under rated PMA2000 amps in western countries, with my LS50 this is amp is sounding better than Parasound Halo P5 & A-21 combination I had which is American designed with Chinese parts, same go for many other amps with western brands yet they will look down on real good quality piece of product. Denon have won more awards than any other amps in Japan even more than Accuphase and Luxman combined, only problem with them is they tend to underrate their integrated amps. I took the measurements with my technician when I did 10 years service, this amp put out 120w @8ohm, 190w @ 4ohm which is expected but what more impresses to him was bias is still within factory specs after 10 years, he said not many amps can do the same after 10 years, that is the real quality of the amp in my opinion, specs on papers will never tell the whole story, my Halo A-21 bias was different than factory specs after 3 years. If this amp can drive LS50 and Martin Logan Electrostatic speakers to full potential, it should not be any problem driving Lintons but everyone have different hearing and taste so, I'm not arguing, just sharing my experience, thanks
@@Tharbamar So I never said you're AMP was not good. But I have a pair of John Curl 400 watt mono blocks. 400 watts @8 ohms, 800 watts @4 ohms... 135 amps of current. Pretty sure they perform differently than your Denon. That was my point.
Yes I got your point but for the people who is going buy this speaker is not going to drive them with amp like yours, most of them will drive them with amp like mine or less base on the price point, so my assessment is more relevant for them, than person with 400w mono blocks, thanks
@@Tharbamar I have a lot to learn, agreed, like I said I would like to hear your Denon, it would be awesome to find a great deal, and maybe too I would order one from Japan!
I have Wharfedale Diamond 220 which one or two of the binding posts have the same problem. When I turn the cap, the whole connector rotates. I wonder can I fix it myself by opening the box.
I think these may be better for larger room than the smaller one. Drivers here are spaced far apart. I like the elac ub5 compact design with teeter inside mid-range. The design of ub5 keep the sound close together using mid-tweet and having with that a close proximity to a small but musical woofer; the tweeter can be time aligned easier with the mid as well as the tweeter to use the mid-range cone as a horn of sorts to open up the sound for amazing imagery.
It's hard for me to choose between Lintons and svs prime towers. You mentioned there was an issue with svs tweeter going out of control over 90-100db. How would you compare Lintons to Svs prime towers in terms of sound quality playing music very loud? I'd really apreciate
WD 225 is probably the best bang for the buck when it comes to speakers. If you replace the bottom plate spacers to bigger ones (making the base down firing port getting more space) they will sound even better.
Great review and lovely looking speakers. That binding post problem will drive me nuts! You might want to contact Wharfedale and see if it's a widespread problem.
Giang Vu, I received brand new packaging, how can someone abuse speaker terminals if they’re properly mounted, I’ve been using Home and pro speakers(live venues) more than 20 years and I’ve never seen terminals come loose by usage, this is just QC problem.
I have yet to find a comprehensive review of this speaker that would compare it, say , to a Klipsch Heresy or other similar loudspeaker. All reviews of the Linton appear to be tepid at best. I'm getting this speaker tomorrow so will see for myself but in this review, the sample music sounded spectacular. It's interesting that your final remarks were somewhat negative of the sound. It would've been nice to make a statement as to how they sound for home theater as well. Otherwise, good review
How have you found them? I'm considering getting a pair in the next Month but have a similar experience to you in regards to finding really convicted reviews and am interested in the home theatre potential of them as well.
Some manufacturing flaws are serious and some are just disappointing. The binding post, to my mind, is just disappointing. A turn of a wrench or a drop of Gorilla glue with solve it. Wharfedale has obviously chosen their battles carefully here, and their aim appears to have been a beautiful-looking speaker with a warm, musical sound to provide, perhaps, a Harbeth-like experience for those of us who can't afford Harbeth speakers. How close did they get? That's my only question.
Hi, I just bought a set of Wharfedale Linton speakers. And they sound amazing. Immediately I'm confused because I can't figure out which speaker is right or left. In the package was the model that should be right, with the Wharfedale logo on the left side of the treble. Same with the package where the model should be left, here with the Wharfedale logo to the right of the treble. In both cases so that the treble is facing outward relative to the listening position is in the center. I cannot find information on Wharfedale's website about the correct placement of the speakers. However, several reviews on the web say that it is important that the Wharfedale logo is facing outward as the listening position is in the center. So that the treble unit turns inward with respect to the listening position. What is right and what is wrong? I have set up the speakers as the right and left speakers as described on the package. But WhatHifi among others describes it as the wrong set up.
The bad binding post is unacceptable in a speaker of this class and quality. Heck, it is unacceptable even in a $75 speaker. You should send it back and get a replacement, bro.
@@bazzag7614 What kind of speaker can you get of this quality for $1500 made anywhere else? Even Klipsch's bullshit made in the USA claim is unfounded---the cabinets are made in AK but the rest of the components , crossovers, etc are made...you guessed it.. in China, genius
Ideally Wharfedale should launch an active version with streaming chops. Will be a solution for many music first audiophiles and also for 2nd setups for many audiophiles. Sometimes you just want to play your music and relax and not analyse too much.
Great job on the review I been curious about these speakers , What Pre-amp are you using to for them ? Cause the newer preamps I've notice focus a lot more on the top end ?
It would be positive that they also talk about speakers like Fluance SX6, Polk Audio T15 that are closer to mortals, between $ 100-150 Dlls. How much quality difference there is in relation to the price Wharfedale Linton for $ 1498.00 Dlls is precisely accessible to us, it is the salary of 3 months in Mexico. Polk Audio T15 ($ 100 Dlls) + Polk Audio PSW10 (130 Dlls) = 230 Dlls vs. Wharfedale Linton for $ 1498.00 Dlls really sound 5 times better?
Some people managed to break the posts in half by simply turning them. Wharfedale has lousy components in a lot of speakers. They had woofer surrounds that broke in a few years, bad glue etc
I bought a pair today to replace my old B&W N805 (the first generation). They are so beautiful but frankly they sounds boxy compering to the N805's. They sound good and easy to listen but the clarity of the B&W's better(without harshness) with similar sound stage so they will go back to the dealer tomorrow. I'm heartbroken because I really wanted to like them.
You do realize that you need to break in speakers?! You can’t do that in a day. Try listening to them again after a week. They will sound less boxy and tight.
Hi, thank you for this very good review of the Wahrfedales. Please let me ask you, how they are in comparison to Harbeth 30 or Tannoy Cheviot. I know that they are more expensive speakers. Would you pay more for this difference? I would listen by myself, but we don't have resellers in my area where I live... Thank you again, it was a very good review!

Denon PMA-2000IVR? I deduced it was $1000 when new, seems like good reviews online, good build quality, and can drive 4 ohm speakers easily. Too bad Denon discountinued, cannot seem to find an equally good amp in the same price range in their current lineup. But still, it bears mentioning your amp is not a Hegel or Accuphase or Pass etc. so it is hard for me to determine the REAL limits of the speakers you review. Also I wish sometimes you would review higher end speakers in the $2500 to $5000 category, just for comparison sake ...
This Denon is the old trusty reliable amp I have for longest time since 2006, it replaces Accuphase E305 in my system back then, in 2012 I bought a pair of Parasound Halo P5 & A-21 which I was hoping to replace this amplifier but I end up using both amps until I got tired of Halo sound and some build quality issues, I sold them in 2018 but I’m still enjoying PMA-2000IVR, Denon still makes them in new generation for Japanese market PMA2500NE but you can expect to pay almost $3000 for them with more features and similar power output, I tried Hegel H160 a few years back and quality is not in the same class as this Denon and over rated, let alone putting in same sentence with Accuphase. It’s just my experience, one day I might go back to Accuphase but still undecided, thanks
@@Tharbamar Hegel 160 is overrated? I owned that amp and it is a good amp, but in your mind it is not in the same class as Denon? You mean KEF and Joseph Audio and other high end speaker manufacturers should use Denon rather than Hegel? Interesting point of view. Too bad you don't live in Vancouver, would like to come by and hear your Denon!
It’s a good amplifier for sure, I tried it with ML Electrostatic speakers it was ok, I was demoing against my Halo P5 & Crown XLS1502 Amps before I bought Halo A-21 amp, cheaper combination of P5 and XLS out performed H160 in my demos, also label is misleading for where is Made, why can’t they say simply Made in China, for $3500 amp I can get better build quality than that from Yamaha, Denon and Marantz etc., I have no problem with buying Chinese made products but I have no respect when a brand doesn’t clearly state where is made on the product. Everyone have different taste, I never take seriously on what others use or like because I tried and trust my own ears than other people opinions because this hobby is subjective and personal. In the end as long as we enjoy our music listening experience, that’s all that matter to me, thanks

Thanks for the review. Sounds mid range heavy to my ears. How do they sound with dense mid range heavy music such as heavy distorted guitars? Do they sound boxy and blurry? Thanks as I’m currently considering them.
Yes it is, reproducing the midrange is not that great for me, these are their heritage design so it may not work for everyone, it didn’t work for my taste, if you compare to regular floor standers you will have more clear view, thanks
It looks like the only thing in common with the original Linton speakers is the name. The originals were a 2 way unit and some what smaller. As for the binding posts, no excuse for that. Very poor design and zero quality control. I used to sell these in the 70s (original of course!) They were a popular budget loudspeaker. They had a popular sound but not very accurate, in HiFi terms. It was known for the tweeters to fail, after Christmas party's we would always sell a few replacements!! Talking of quality control, upon opening one speaker after a customer complained of a rattle, I found a screwdriver clinging to the magnet. I still have that driver today!! The stands should NOT have items filling that space, nothing but AIR only. If you fill the space it will sound different. Might as well stand it on a box.
Michael Beeny that’s interesting. How does putting things in the void of the stand affect the sound? I could see a box would potentially resonate, but a bunch of records? Curious to know what changes in character to expect.
@@kingtubbyleeperry Not true. I bought bi wire cables about 5 years, I had them connected to a set of Wharfedale speakers which cost about 5/6 less than the Lintons, and didn't notice a difference. Recently I read, it depends on the speakers and you would not hear a difference on cheap speakers. I've recently I connected them to speakers that cost about same as the Lintons, and there is a good difference from having them single wired.
I'm sorry but bought these and returned it after 5 days of trying to get the best sound out of them, I used a decent tube amp for just stereo, a Sony AV Receiver, 2 power amps one for each speaker and have to say these things dont stand out in any setup, also it doesnt excel in any sense, maybe a few old hill Billy tunes it sounds ok but anything modern dance its nasty, as part of a surround for the TV or Home Cinema is dull, overall Treble is not sharp enough, base non existent, need a sub, the midsize sound muffled unless you use the tube amp, overall really disappointing, when you compare these to let's say a more modern type similar priced floor standing speaker from Klipsch/Dali/Jamo etc these speakers dont hold up, sorry it just doesn't.
Terrible binding posts. The lack of a biamp option is a dumb decision. There must be tons of diffraction around that "frame" in the front. Open them up and look inside at the materials and the build quality. The drives are removable from the front - it is trivial. What is the cabinet material? Is it pressed cardboard like the Diamond series?! Any bracing? What is the xover like? Electrolytic caps? Iron-core inductors? For $1200, you really want to know these things, and more. What about power handling? Can they play loud, and how well?
Poor review. Just stating the obvious. Did not state that the grille is to be used as it helps with dispersion of the drive units and was designed as such.
You're still touching the veneer! I cringe every time you do. PLEASE read the Manuel. Love your videos...except for the ones where you touch the wood of the Wharfedales.😉
Made in China, lol, I would think you sacrifice a bit with cheaper price, compare to the likes of Harbeth and Spendor, it's without a problem for me the binding post minor problem, outlook and finish is better than a lot way expensive speakers to be honest, and sound is average quality to me, which should be the biggest problem with this product, failed to be heritage...
@Francis Pulanco I had owned Denton 85th for sometimes, and the sound is consistent as described by few reviewers, the tweeter can sound average, not bad, just not refined enough, Denton 80th is my long time favorite still, when bass driver become larger or more, it make difficult to control from the point of view of driver integrations and tonal balance goal.

Yeah his amp is not of the same quality as your Parasound, so his comments on the bass are subjective at best.
It should be easy fix.
Tharbamar if you can open the boxes, yes, easy tix.
Hello, the square of the legs, what are your measurements? please
These are samples, I do not have them anymore. Thanks
Hi!Please write to me .Which is Better Wharfedale Linton or Focal Aria 906?Thank you!!!!!!
I bet the protrusive sidepanels messing up the frequencyresponse to a certain degree.
Zockopa obtrusive side panels? What do you mean? These are wide baffle speakers.
The midrange for me is perfect!!
It's hard for me to choose between Lintons and svs prime towers. You mentioned there was an issue with svs tweeter going out of control over 90-100db. How would you compare Lintons to Svs prime towers in terms of sound quality playing music very loud? I'd really apreciate
Sorry SVS Prime is in distance memory, Lintons are great up to 90 dB range but not so much after that, Thanks
Thank you for your informative review. I will be keeping my Wharfedale Diamond 225 speakers thanks to you. I do love the 225s. Great speakers.
I have to a pair ! Very good speakers !
WD 225 is probably the best bang for the buck when it comes to speakers. If you replace the bottom plate spacers to bigger ones (making the base down firing port getting more space) they will sound even better.
That amazing to find out about the post. For a speakers that are $1499?
Great review and lovely looking speakers. That binding post problem will drive me nuts! You might want to contact Wharfedale and see if it's a widespread problem.
Giang Vu, it was a review sample, I didn’t buy them.
@@Tharbamar Maybe it has been used and abused by many before getting to you. Thanks!
Giang Vu, I received brand new packaging, how can someone abuse speaker terminals if they’re properly mounted, I’ve been using Home and pro speakers(live venues) more than 20 years and I’ve never seen terminals come loose by usage, this is just QC problem.
@@Tharbamar I had it happen on b&W 800 D3........!!!!
Hello, que espesor tienen las placas de acero, el espesor es de 6mm. y la de madera 50mm?
I own the 75th anniversary Diamond 9.1 , I love them.
How do the winton's Linton closest to the rear wall behave, I do not have as much free space to place them
Some manufacturing flaws are serious and some are just disappointing.
Beautiful and very good sounding speakers.
Hi,
I just bought a set of Wharfedale Linton speakers.
Logo should be outward, ruclips.net/video/nHAtFeJqkSk/видео.html
Basically, the tweeter should be on the inside, closer to you. The tweeters are closer to the middle, when both speakers are set up
Hello, how thick are the steel plates, the thickness is 6mm. and the wooden one 50mm?
The bad binding post is unacceptable in a speaker of this class and quality. Heck, it is unacceptable even in a $75 speaker. You should send it back and get a replacement, bro.
he'll probably send it back anyway, as it's a review pair
Why am I not surprised, "Made in China"
Harbeth speakers also have that kind of binding posts
@@bazzag7614 What kind of speaker can you get of this quality for $1500 made anywhere else? Even Klipsch's bullshit made in the USA claim is unfounded---the cabinets are made in AK but the rest of the components , crossovers, etc are made...you guessed it.. in China, genius
Ideally Wharfedale should launch an active version with streaming chops. Will be a solution for many music first audiophiles and also for 2nd setups for many audiophiles. Sometimes you just want to play your music and relax and not analyse too much.
very well done...nice comprehensive review
Great job on the review I been curious about these speakers , What Pre-amp are you using to for them ? Cause the newer preamps I've notice focus a lot more on the top end ?
what amp Do y'all recommend for this speakers ? Audio lab 6000A, Cambridge A81, Leak130,Marantz PM700N or Denon ?
Hello,
Do You know Evo 4.4 ?
Good review thanks
I'm sure binding post problem is manufacturer defect!
Nice review T.
Nice, I like Wharfedale.
Were the speakers fully broken in before critical listening?
These are revview samples, they came fully broken in.
The T15 are crap
That's strange the Binding post shouldn't turn the nut is loose inside need to tighten it but loosen binding post nut first
Some people managed to break the posts in half by simply turning them.
I hear you.
You do realize that you need to break in speakers?! You can’t do that in a day. Try listening to them again after a week. They will sound less boxy and tight.
great review!
Harbeth is more accurate!
Bro, what speaker cables did you use evaluating these speakers?
Now what speaker cable would you recommend to balance the sound of the linton, to which bring more detail without being harsh and less (I dare say) muddy?
Thanks in advance.
Mogami W3104 or Canare 4S11 cables work great with them.
@@TharbamarThanks! a follow up question from your direct experience. I am looking to bring more fleshed out details on these speakers and thought kimber 4TC may be a good fit?
4tc is not the best match for Evo 4.2 speakers.
@@Tharbamar Hmmm.. I thought this video was for Linton 85th. That is why I was asking the kimber 4TC compared to mogami or canare paired with the Linton?
My mistake I’ve been answering too many Evo 4.2 questions, FYI I replaced 8TC with Canare 4S11.

It’s a good amplifier for sure, I tried it with ML Electrostatic speakers it was ok, I was demoing against my Halo P5 & Crown XLS1502 Amps before I bought Halo A-21 amp, cheaper combination of P5 and XLS out performed H160 in my demos, also label is misleading for where is Made, why can’t they say simply Made in China, for $3500 amp I can get better build quality than that from Yamaha, Denon and Marantz etc.,
I have no problem with buying Chinese made products but I have no respect when a brand doesn’t clearly state where is made on the product.
Everyone have different taste, I never take seriously on what others use or like because I tried and trust my own ears than other people opinions because this hobby is subjective and personal.
In the end as long as we enjoy our music listening experience, that’s all that matter to me, thanks
@@Tharbamar In Denmark with 25% vat, the Denon PMA 2500 is priced at $2000,- (Hi-fi Klubben with more than 150 shops in Europe are the distributers), I just bought one used for $1500,-. It plays alongside a Kinki Studio ($2500,-) and a T.A.C. V60 (Vincent brand tubeamp, $3500,-), and it more than holds it own. It's not better but different.

Is kef still better? Ls50, R series.
So do you think the Denton anniversary speakers are better than the Reva II's you tested?
Yes I do, If I remember it right but it’s been a while now, thanks
Hello,
Are they sound harshly in mids/treble ? Or are they more warm sounding speaker ?
They’re not harsh speakers.
@@Tharbamar Thank You for Your answer. I'm afraid about the high frequencies ? Are this speakers sounds dark or bright overall ? I dont like very dark (too polite) speakers but i don't like when highs peaking too much to.
The speaker terminal problem is obviously a flaw in the unit you have. I can't see Wharfdale making it that way on purpose.
You should never go bare with your banana plug, always practice safe audiophilia
SEND IT BACK!!!
Agreed. Low quality
Thanks Bud .
God bless
Are these really stable on the stands? I have young children and worry about how safe it is
Standing rock-solid.
Focal Aria 906 or Wharfedale Linton Heritage?
I have a small room and I listen to classical music and jazz
Thks
I did not like Linton Heritage with classical music, not enough refinement.
@@Tharbamar thank you very much
Beautiful loudspeaker! But... why they build it in China, why :(( "Heritage" model it should not be built in China
these are huge speakers
SAD I LIKE THE SOUND OF THIS SPEAKER BUT NO BI-WIRING
Bi-wiring is bs.
I hear you, these are voiced to sound like original Linton speakers.
Bass is “non-existent”? I can’t take your opinion seriously after reading that. Do you understand how to properly set up equipment?
Hi
Let's hear the f..king things !!!
Why don’t you look, I have so many f..king sound demos than anyone on RUclips.
Wasting my time talking about a defective binding post annoys me, quite a lot. It's meant to work, of course it is. God damn.
Too big for my room
Terrible binding posts. The lack of a biamp option is a dumb decision. There must be tons of diffraction around that "frame" in the front. Open them up and look inside at the materials and the build quality. The drives are removable from the front - it is trivial. What is the cabinet material? Is it pressed cardboard like the Diamond series?! Any bracing? What is the xover like? Electrolytic caps? Iron-core inductors? For $1200, you really want to know these things, and more. What about power handling? Can they play loud, and how well?
How do you bi-wire a 3-way speaker? Bi means two.
Biamp (not biwire) would be as follows: one amp channel on the largest driver and another amp channel for the other two drivers.
He's not lovin' this speaker. And the junk binding posts are unacceptable for any level...
Poor post design! another overpriced hyped speakers i can buy for $50 at som garage sale...from som old guy
@Francis Pulanco Next speakers anticipated would be a Spendor Classic, just that it costs a lot more...
