I'm jealous of all those who can speak more than one language.
That said "R-Tickle-It" could be a funny award you give to any amp or speaker which refines the sound in a pleasurable way ;)
Don't worry, by the end of the video I was hearing you say "articulate"

  • @StrangerInParadise58

As always, thanks for the review!
I have owned the Wharfedale Linton Heritage speakers for over a year now. Mine are the complete set with stands in the Red Mahogany finish. They are stunning beauties for sure. Even the stands scream top quality.
As background, I also own both the Wharfedale Denton 80th and 85th Anniversary Edition speakers and love them both. I have concluded that - FOR ME - the Wharfedale signature sound is my favorite sound signature in speakers. I love the warm and luscious audio blanket in which they envelop the listener ... beautiful, full, and musically articulate bass, lifelike mid-range and vocals, and incredibly smooth but very detailed highs.
Having said all that, the new Linton Heritage speakers from Wharfedale have taken the Wharfedale signature sound to breathtaking levels of audio performance. My jaw dropped at the imaging and sound stage these brought to my music - and they have only gotten better over time as they have loosened up. Seriously, the sound stage produced by these speakers, at least in my setup, is so fricking realistic and present that they brought tears to my eyes as I sat there and listened to them. I can't get enough of them. I am pulling out all of my music just to hear it on these speakers, everything from Jazz to Classic Hard Rock, from Orchestral to Blues, from Vocal to Progressive Rock ... it all sounds gloriously realistic through these speakers. I am playing old Gene Krupa, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Art Blakey, Coleman Hawkins, etc and I just close my eyes as they play right in my room in front of me. But don't be fooled by those selections, as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Humble Pie, Montrose, Thin Lizzy, Mahogany Rush, ELP, Kansas, Rush, etc all sound equally amazing through these speakers. I am also a drummer and thus I am particularly sensitive to the imaging and sound stage of drums in music. I'll just say that these Linton speakers present Ian Paice of Deep Purple in all his left-handed drumming glory, capturing every nuance of his finesse and chops. Very, very impressive.
Mine take me to audio ecstasy! The vocals, OMG the VOCALS ... it literally sounds like the artist is singing on stage right in front of me and I am right up against the stage! I knew from experience and what I had learned about the design of these speakers that they would most likely be outstanding speakers, but I had NO IDEA that they could, or would, be this good!!! Even though their ability to play low are outstanding all by themselves, I am now also pairing them with dual SVS SB3000 subwoofers because they also serve as my two main front speakers in my home theater setup.
All I can say is that music (my main love and focus) and movies now fill my room with stunning realism and presence. I played the Blu-ray of "Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's" and I was in tears during some of the performances. Amazing speakers and now my incomparable favorites.
Amazing speakers and so glad I purchased them.

Nice review. I got them three days ago and can't get enough. I have them paired with only a single SVS SB-2000 Pro but it's adequate in our room. Tight bass melds seamlessly with the Lintons. Wish we could've done dual subs but alas, there's no space. I second all your musical comments as spot on. Can I ask what amps you're running? I just stream with Marantz's NR 1200 which has 75wpc but it might be missing a little punch so may add a Parasound power amp to that and use it as a steamer

It keeps you in the music instead of in the analytical angle. Also they are really impressive to play every genre from classical to electronic, rock, pop etc. It is rare to have such nice midrange definition without archness.

Your comparison of the Tekton Lores to the Lintons was interesting. Listening to both speakers in the same room, I prefer every aspect of the sound of the not-yet-fully-broken-in Lintons. Of course, there are many variables - room, system synergy, hearing, etc., but for me the Lintons are keepers.

  • @vintageprinciples

Great job on the review!! I've had these for the last year or so and for the price range there's no competition. You could charge double and still be a fair price for what you get out of them. Had them up against way more expensive speakers and still preferred these. And they scale well with higher end amps. Heard $10k+ amps on them and they do get a notch better. They match almost any amps great! Tube amps like R8s and PrimaLuna sound unreal as well. Had 4 hour listening on them and still no fatigue. I have them in a bigger 22'x25' room and they pressurize it very well. I keep thinking what else I would switch them for and can't come up with an answer : )

Spot on comment. I have these and even my wife loves them (she couldn't wait to get rid of the RP8000 Klipsch). Klipsch was too much for our room, both the midrange and higher frequencies became fatiguing though they were more composed for movies. But we listen to music more.

I have Wharfedale Linton speakers hooked up to a powerful 1990s Denon PMA-1060 amplifier. I compared that to the Leak Stereo 130, and the Leak was beaten hands down. With the good old PMA-1060 the Lintons are really impressive.
By the way, for the spikes under the stands round metal feet with rubber rings are included to protect the floor.

Re-watching this video, as I've owned the Linton Heritage since they first came out. Since then, I've been through many amp and cable combinations, and spent days fine-tuning room placement. If you're patient with finding perfect room placement, good cable synergy, and most importantly- a High powered solid state amp- you've got a recipe for sonic "Nirvana". When I first heard these, I though that they were the best speaker value in High End audio, in decades. What I wasn't prepared for, is how "scale-able" they are. I started off with the Lintons on a 35 wpc tube amp, then 2 Peachtree Integrated amps, ending up with the flagship Peachtree Grand X-1. (440 wpc with tube buffer preamp). Holy smokes. I then tried a Luxman L505-u, which was unimpressive. Then a Rotel A11 Heritage, which was really unimpressive. Then, inspired by your review of the Kinki Studio EX-M1+, I gave that amp a shot. I was Gobsmacked. I still am, after several weeks. The Kinki EX-M1+ drives these with unreal authority. Bass "slam" and control like a $$$$$$ Powered subwoofer was running. The midrange retains all the warmth, and the highs extend with delicacy and finess like no dome tweeter I've ever heard. Most impressively, the Kinki in combination with the Lintons, upped the "Detail" and "air" by a factor of at least 5x. In fact, the combination makes these things sound like $5k+ speakers. All without ever sounding "shouty" or shrill. I didn't think this was even possible. Listening sessions now last hours and hours, instead of just having music on in the background as I work. Unreal.
All this to say,-thanks for the review of both these and the Kinki EX-M1+. Cheers Jay!

I bought these speakers a year ago. First I used a Opera Consonance Cyber 100 15 year Anniversary tube amplifier, and they sounded nice together. Then I bought a used Hegel H1 mk4 at 120 watt pr channel, and it became a WOW !! experience. The Lintons came to life in every aspect of their sound, compared to with the Opera amplifier. I now am very much satisfied with the sound. As Mr. Iyagi said, these speakers are not analytical, they are musical. Sweet and warmth sounding. And the Hegel made them even sweeter in the mid and top, while the bass got more control and power. I play absolutely every kind of music, and the Lintons do it all so natural and pleasant to my ears. Several of the people who comes to visit, and when the music is on, have asked about the Lintons because they have noticed the nice sound.

Hi Jay. This is not so much about the Lintons as I'm attracted to more analytical sounding speakers.
This is more about the Willsenton R8. Have you done any tube rolling with this amp? Well, I have, and currently I have a set of Sophia Electric KT-88-ST blue glass coke bottle tubes for the power section. The pre-amp section is using Sophia Electric blue glass 6SN7's, Shuguang blue glass 6SL7-T's, while the tube in the centre front can be any good quality valve. I'm currently using a PSVane 6SN7BE tube - it's the one that looks like an old fashioned light globe and again, it also is blue glass.
I know you like bass, and the bass slam of this combination of tubes is amazing - plenty of texture and tone too. The midrange is holographic with great clarity and the top end is extended and delicate, also with great clarity.
Another combination, especially if on a budget is all Tung-Sol tubes, but using the Tung-Sol EL34B's. BTW, I didn't like the Tung-Sol 6550 tubes, but the EL34B's with Tung-Sol front end had a beautiful sound.
Both sets of tubes mentioned above, of course, still maintained that nice tubey sound. I have a huge quantity of tubes and so far the Sophia Electric combination is by far the best I've come across.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Hi Jay, I realise that you have probably been asked this many times, but I was wondering if you are planning to review the Willsenton R800i that we saw in the Tannoy XT 8F review? I am going to be pulling the plug on a Valve amp for my Tannoy XT 8F and I can't listen to the Willsentons in the UK. Is the R800i worth the upgrade over the R8? As the R8 has so many different ways to run ( KT88 or EL34 in either ultra-linear or Triode) whereas the 800i comes as is ordered. Please could you maybe advise me before I part with my money to China HiFi.

Just bought a pair of these from Crutchfield. I bought them without the stands because I can't stand the look of the stands and I have my own stands. I bought them in the scratch and dent open box from Crutchfield and I got an incredible value I highly recommend that. I'll let you know how they sound when they come in. Ordered in Walnut. The scratch and dent open box sales are also the same warranty of five years parts and labor and 60-day return full return for your dollar.

    • @superdougie10
      @superdougie10 Год назад

@@xsamitt These are wonderful speakers, highly highly recommend them and also think I made an extremely frugal purchase and received an amazing musical experience. . They have bypassed all expectation, They sounded very strange with 4 ohms and I read online that they sound much better using 8 ohms. My old NAD reciever has a switch on the back to use 4 or 8 ohms.
Not many receivers have that so I found out they are better with 8 ohms. I love my Linton's and have kept them. I am not returning these they have incredible strong base, I have mine in the bedroom where I work from home full time and find the base is very good.
One of the nice things about these Linton's is they play full frequency even late at night when I play them real low volume....very refined and warm and a lovely British feel to the sound. My NAD receiver is a warm british made in england model 7140 is from 1987 and its regarded as a cult classic and it is incredible pairing with these british Linton's.
They are great for low volume playing.
Just an awesome speaker, I also hear things I had never heard before in my music collection that my other two sets of speakers were unable to reproduce.
Lastly, these Linton's play the source more truly. If a cd is not reproduced that great it will play that source/cd much more to how it was recorded,
and the is a very British design because of that as well. These speakers do not sugar coat the recording like other speakers playing it like it was recorded. And the midrange is just gorgeous very addictive. I turn the base down on my old receiver and the treble seems to be extended without me boosting it on the receiver.....very balanced designed speaker, and it plays very load or forward with just a little volume you won't need to turn them up much to run them well. Buy them, its an incredible value especially if you get them without the stands. But you may love the stands, not me.

Any chance you could do a review on the GR Research upgrade for these. I’ve considered get it, but I’m afraid they’ll loose that wonderful warm sound. If the upgrade simply improves what’s already there it’d be well worth the money, but I don’t want to turn them into an entirely different speaker.

love wharfedale linton but the brands have understood it well, vintage is a real return to fashion that has become accessible to all, which was not the case in the 70s and 80s when it took several months of wages to be able to afford hi-fi equipment to the much more noble build quality

Robinson is talking like a salesman.

And he's not afraid to review cheap China no name products.
Like the R8 tube amplifier he is
      using in this review.

Andrew is reviewing only products from shiny labels. And many of them are overpriced.

@@4EverJoyDivision actually your comment is moist flushable wet wipe comment. Andrew is one of the more honest as it comes on the reviewers out there---and I watch tons of em. He takes up causes, gives you the real good and bad of hifi gear (when others sugarcoat it) adds his wife on the commentary (who can often disagree with his viewpoints) and gives you opinions that go outside most audiophile reviewers (hence the name of his channel, duh). If you dont like him , thats one thing...to say he is a 'salesman' or saying he doesnt feature Chinese products, when he has, is BS. And he has had tons of Chinese items, like the Aurylic DAC and others. This means you arent really watching his channel enough to know the difference and youre just taking a sh** just to take a sh**. You can like both he or Jay , or not, without making baseless claims.
