@dragonhammer0625 indeed you can! There are people that have characters dedicated to farming materials like mining ore and then crafting it into good gear
The grind is pretty intense but I am a bit of a sucker for the grind. If you join a guild, it makes it all exponentially easier too since you do more as a group. Honestly, if I didn’t have to edit videos for a YT channel, I’d play this game a ton hahaha. I highly recommend it
@ShadowWolf2023-yp5zg I mean, I don’t think this is a big time mainstream game because some of the mechanics are nuanced and the grind can be pretty intense. What you do get as well is a really awesome community and lots of activity with the server
I’ll never forget when Lisa simpson, a filthy red, took my life and my savings many a moons ago. I love that the game is still around all these years later.
I played UO when I was 12. Year 2000. I was grandmaster miner and like 80% on blacksmith hahaha. SO many drama and memories from the mining pit. Oh boy, too many. When you get to grandmaster blacksmith, every item you craft gets your name on the item's name. Like, "Plate armor crafted by EternalLife". I was so motivated to get this dream come true, and played everyday for years but couldnt get to grandmaster :( But the thrill of running away from notorious murderers while getting helped by all the blue players is not like any other games. Best game experience Ive ever had.
I was 15, playing late 90's, proudest moment was using a tinker trapped chest on the ground in the mine to trick a miner-killer blue player into blowing himself up, looting him, running into my house, and locking the door, lol.
I played back then in a server where mines outside Minoc were a known PK hunting ground. You'd be scared shitless whenever you are in the caves. Any moment a team of PK players would just come in, seal the mine's exit with the wall spell, kill everyone in the mines and steal your loot. It was the best of times.
I played at 16 in 2001 for 15 minutes and never went back. Ended up playing war craft from 2004 to 2013. Then started playing the souls series and realized how crap every mmo really is.
@@DSToNe19and83 Is that where you open the trade menu and some how you drop every item in the trade menu and over encumbers you? If so, I hate you lol. I lost 10 mil like that.
it was a pleasure running into you during your travels! your last UO video got me playing outlands and to see you there was an absolute blast! Even though I did call you Pixel Retro at the time (haha). Luckily enough, I was rewatching your Kenshi series during the time this video was released so I got to watch it only a day after it came out! Glad you joined the knights of Sir! I was in a guild allied with them (Pathfinders). Hopefully we can cross paths again one day!
Was it you that I ran into in Inferno level 1? If you are who I think you are, you were casually lockpicking the chests where I was at and I was super happy that you recognized me. One of the only people who did that too! I was bummed that I forgot to record when I was playing at the time but if that was you, I definitely remember that interaction haha
@@PixelRookieOfficial @PixelRookieOfficial yep that was me :D glad you remembered our encounter! not gonna lie i was hoping to see my "mistake" on this video but it was good to see you playing without trying to make this movie. shows that you were having fun in the game to me at least!
@@PocketFullofGames I was "gathering footage and progression" without recording for like 4 months straight lol.... whoops! Honestly, if I didn't have a youtube channel, I'd be really invested into Outlands and play it regularly as my go-to game. I had to take a break so my channel doesn't die from inactivity :P I am happy that you found this video and honestly, I am bummed out that I didn't capture that moment because it was equally as exciting for me to have someone randomly recognize me while we were doing simple dungeon crawls haha. Cheers and best of luck out there!
The editing, sound and delivery 10/10. Ultima Online for those of us that have been addicted to it through the years is very hard to explain to someone from the outside. Great video!
In the 6th grade I used to play Runescape in computer class and my class buddy would always try to get me to play Ultima Online instead lol. I was waaaaaaayyyy too dedicated to mining coal though. Riveting gameplay!
In my conputerclass we all thought we were slick but realized soon. Our teacher could see what we do from his pc and also he was huge geek. Like he was huge wow fan, befriended himself with the substitue teacher instantly who occassionly went to raids with him( so been told ) The class teacher also played with us the games weve been playing.
The WoE thing became known in our class, we tried to add him in those games but they rejected for the same reason as befriended yourself with the teacher because you could get better grades
this vid reminded of runescape classics, runescape was legendary i loved it was so much fun and symplistic. OSrs is a good game to but runescape classics was legendary.
I was actually wanting to make a video follow-up of Outlands as soon as I tried it out after retail UO and was in love with the game. It just took me a veeeery long time to actually put everything together haha
@@PixelRookieOfficial So which did you like better? Dude, you noobing around brings back so many memories. I wish I could erase those memories and experience it like you did. Amazing to see!
I liked Outlands 1000 times better. The world feels very alive and busy all the time and joining a guild made it even more fun as I was not stuck doing things alone. It helped kick start me to really snowball and the game is a lot more enjoyable once you have the key progressions upgraded some.
Even though I been playing Outlands for a couple of years now I went through the whole video. Perfectly done and really entertain. Also full of nostalgic and with so on point things like the DM Boss fight the Terran music or the Berserk OST with the guild part!! so touching You sir deserve massive success as youtuber!
Thanks so much! I love tossing in some classic OSTs to tickle the nostalgia a bit. It feels especially fitting when it’s the topic of Ultima Online since even without playing it, it was a big memory of my childhood of WHAT IF haha
I have been playing for about 5 years, have a house, a few solid characters with some decent levels in multiple Aspects and I just now found out you could take that boat at the Shelter Docks to Prevalia lol. Literally every system is insanely in depth and you will always learn new things every time you play because there is just so much.
Epic video as always Mr Hotdog! Glad to see you on Outlands. Its amazing server with an amazing community. Hope to bump into you in the world some day!
I love watching UO videos, because at this time in my life I had friends, I had a life, I was happy, I didn't care about anything, just venturing into this world with my friends... I miss it....=/
Ah the good ol days. If my brother and I were able to play this back in the day, it would have been glorious. Now, life has other priorities a lot of the time.
@@ded2thaworld963 UO was THE first MMO with graphics. There was Meridian but with like a thausand players while UO peaked at around 400 000. Was lucky to get in around 3rd month since game started. Full loot and unrestricted PVP. Most adrenaline computer has ever given me. Didnt last long due to waterfall of complains though.
AMAZING editing, the Chris bard fail shot was hilarious. I played Outlands upon launch and then during covid. I had the first medium sized ship on the server - back then it was like me and two other guys who even sailed, there were no ship pks. I remember almost pking richest player on the server Stormy Daniels on second day of the server. I remember how quickly people got together for the first houses it was within a day or two, people were PRE PLANNING how to do this before server opened on discord and doing podcasts about the launch strategy. The creator and everyone working on Outlands did a fantastic job with it. If anyone is curious AND if you have free time because it WILL take up your time, this is a really fun thing to get into for awhile.
I absolutely adore your narration, and the fact that I know most of the music tracks you pull from is just some heavy nostalgia for someone who's had great memories of their source material ( like classic UO and Neverwinter Nights ) Subbed.
UO Outlands is exactly what UO Classic SHOULD have become. It's stunning and amazing. The way they repurpose skills to become useful that were originally more pointless is phenominal. Additionally, the way you 'lvl' is probably the best way I've seen 'lvls' done. I don't have time to actively play this anymore, but gods do I miss it. I love the depth this game offers, in terms of skill sets, crafting, fighting, and more. I've been waiting for DECADES for a newaged UO and this really filled that desire when I found it 3 years ago.
I agree. I think the progression is really interesting while still keeping the core of UO in place. It sucks when you get killed by a pk and they loot your body, but most equipment is a minor inconvenience to lose at worse. It’s a good setup and a ton of fun
I’m so unbelievably happy you decided to make a second video covering uo outlands as I believe it is the definitive way to play and a big RUclipsr covering it is gonna bring so many more players in
I played on Baja during that time, as well. Then in college I played on Pacific. My main was Dedric and my crafter was named Kryx. I was in a few guilds, but I think the main one was called Drunken Order [DO]. Such great memories. I'm 43 now and one of my high school buddies who I played with in 97 plays UO: Outland. He wanted me to play so badly, but I had just come off a 4 year stint playing WoW: Classic and could not be bothered to grind another MMO, haha.
Almost been 2 years on outlands now. This server is getting better and better every week/month.. i seriously can't get enough. There's so many playstyles that are viable too.. like one my personal favorite build is a harvest aspect thief that focuses on lockpicking dungeon chests and stealing from mobs(and the occasional player) to get rich.
Oh that’s a fun build idea. I could enjoy just lumberjacking if harvest wasn’t so expensive. I love the idea of the chroma cores though. Big step in the right direction IMO
@@PixelRookieOfficial I was lucky enough to be building fortune aspect before they added harvest and could switch, so i got harvest 6 for free... works well enough as it is. Not rich enough to echo my build and also make a gatherer on the same toon yet though
@Drawfill I spent a ton of skill scrolls to unlock an echo and it hasn’t done me much good since I went for a pure air dexxer haha. I’ll give it another go when wildlands comes out since the focus skill will help with it a lot
yeah... echoes are only worth it if you got a 720 template that works for the aspect you wanna use it for. Harvest works for both gathering and lockpicking... it just makes sense on this character of mine. I wouldnt advise echoing on a new toon though tbh.
I love Outlands so much and the new expansion just released this weekend! When I was new to Outlands I was jacking some lumber northwest of Prevalia and it was a territory belonging to Reds. I was stopped by a Red and they roleplayed that I pay the fee to have access to their lands or I run the risk of dying. I paid a meager sum of gold as I was very poor and they granted me access to the territory and said that they would pass the word along to allow me to pass through.
The expansion is great so far! Minus the server instability, it’s really great. I’m finally able to enjoy playing as an air dexxer haha. The other day I entered the mausoleum and this red approaches me at the entrance and tells me he’s robbing me and my buddy and that we have to pay him OR ELSE. We both turned on him right after and he took off running but it was really funny. Love the light RP that goes on in the game
@@PixelRookieOfficial make sure you enter the house lottery from all 3 accs. I just won one pass and placed first house in new lands, right near the great farming/taming spot
@@PixelRookieOfficial Make sure you find and bookmark potential spots in advance. During the last expansion I basically roleplayed the realter lol. Invested all my gold into buying passes from the others and ended up almost placing the biggest possible house on the shard. You can't buy passes directly, but you can pay the person to use his pass and place a 8x8 house where you want and after the lottery transfer it to you for the remainder of the fee. That's how some ended up with huge plots. This was probably the most enjoyable part of playing on Outlands, at least for me. Needed to deal with lots of people in order to make it happpen. For a beginner it's better to look for some good farming and close to water spots, which are surrounded by some obstacles, so placing 8x8 wouldn't let others to place another 8x8 between your house and those obstacles. There should be 4 tiles between another potential nearby house, so leaving 3 tiles denies that. Make sure you test Windmill. That sucker has weird footprint and some guilds got screwed up last time, because some placed those in their big plots. You can test everything on test server and/or by placing pouches on the ground to mark house borders and then using surveying tool to place wanted house. Let me know if you have questions. Cheers
Cool to see classic UO is still available to play and with many new improvements on non-retail. I played a ton on non-retail RPG servers back in the day and those are some of my best MMO memories.
Just watching this, with all the complicated stuff you have to figure out to do with razor and settings, seems like this would be so hard to get into for a new player. I have played UO off and on since release and slowly learned third party programs, macros, etc. It's fun, like this server and Project 1999 for Everquest are the best MMO experiences available imo, but it's sort of a mess playing 3 accounts at once using a third party program and almost needing to know how to code to set up complicated behaviors in macros. I'm impressed with anyone who started with Outlands and got the hang of it without prior UO experience.
That's why most scripts you will need are right in the outlands scripts website you copy pasta and do your thing. They have an active community in discord with people called companions that are dedicated to helping new players get going
my dad played this game when it first came out, and i mean when it first came out, in the 90's, he was a big part of the community and was one of the most famous people back then.
Always interesting how when people speak about UO as it was in the beginning they are talking about UO in its 3rd or 4th year not UO in 1997 and 1998. The perception that the game was nothing but people trying to kill or cheat everyone else comes from people who joined the game later who were not there to see it at the start. Yes there were pks but there were also blacksmiths who you could hand your armor to to repair who would repair it for skill and give it back, not steal it. Most pks were looking for fights not loot and would res you. The UO legend was not really what original UO was in the first couple years because it was a completely new experience then that people mostly wanted to explore.
Definitely agree. I was Bailey in the Trinsic or Britain blacksmith shops on Catskills shard. I started at release. That was when you could be 100 skill in everything. I used to spend hours fixing stuff. The repair items always had to be in a bag cause otherwise it just got lost in my inventory. I went through so many hammers! Just a few gold and I would have you fixed up. Never once thought about keeping the stuff. Would craft items on request. That is when we were hoping there was some kind of boost for being well fed so ate bread before doing a big job. I remember a guy had like 5 dragons for sale at the bank one time. Originally there wasn’t a limit on pets. I bought one and it almost immediately turned on me because my animal taming wasn’t high enough. Lost my 5,000 gold coins because the guards killed it! That was when 5,000 coins was a fortune. I hated when they split the shard into Pk and “Care Bear”. We originally had groups that would hunt pk. After it changed the whole dynamic. Played for almost 10 years.
PK'ing really took off early '98 as people who benefitted from the fast skill gain the first few weeks after launch got established. Back then you had a lot of duo PK's who'd hide and double bolt a target with a heavy xbow, which was usually an insta kill. Or you had the classic tank mage (in full plate, because med wasn't a thing) doing the explo-ebolt combo, which was also a death sentence for people with ~60 magic resist and less than 100 str. They were definitely after your stuff during that period as everyone was still on that getting rich grind; you could clean out dungeons with a small group in 15-20 minutes and walk away with all the loot players had been gathering for an hour. It was the most profitable playstyle, and you just became a dread lord; no murder counts or stat loss. Sure we rezzed on occasion, but usually there was no time or the 50 mana loss was too risky. I became one of those honorable PK's that would just play with you and res/heal/invis, but not until later when I was stupid rich and extremely comfortable with all sorts of PvP situations. But I agree there were also a lot of (light)roleplayers, even amongst PK'ers, that weren't out to get you. There was usually a guy/guild you could trust providing repairs at smiths.
I tried it in the year 2000. After a week I accidentally changed from the care bear server to the pvp full loot masochist server and got robbed blank. Didn't had the urge to player any further.
lol the way players can rip the joy from another person is uncanny... I know that feeling well from when I got scammed the first time ever on Diablo 2 online. I was so mad lol
Here is a nice build i have fun like crazy with Taming/Animal lore/Peacemaking/Music(what its called)/Magery/Hiding/Last is the one that heals animal (dont remember the name). What you do is when you have 100% in taming you go to a place called Wind (need around 80% magery) Tame a Drake after that peacemake a Big Dragon let the drake take it down in HP until it flys away and you peacemake him and start to tame him (will take some time). After that you feed it with meat and heal it up and put it in the stable, dont pick him out for 1 week (irl) after that week you take him out and feed him and the Dragon with be Bound to you means if the dragon dies you can ress him again. What this is good is that you have a pet that is a killing machine. Big dragon always drop around 2500gold up to 4500gold and jewlery that you can sell to npc. Started play UO 1998 and never after that found another game like it again.
So many great memories from my teens playing UO. Best game experience I've ever had. Wish I could have time to play it again. Had an amazing time watching your video, thank you and congratulations
As someone who never played Ultima Online, this is exactly what I needed to get the experience of what it's like without having to play it or struggle through a streeeetched Let's Play. Thanks!
Gave you a fat sub for this great video. Was very engaging and entertaining at the same time. This was the review style I was looking for. Also 30 minutes for a video is just the sweet spot.
Eyy thanks so much! I’ve been meaning to do a follow up video as I recorded a bunch more gameplay. I really love Outlands but had to stop playing as I was too addicted to it hahaha
FYI the 3D spiritual successor to UO is Mortal Online 2. It’s a game that’s extremely rough around the edges but despite that it’s incredibly unique and rewarding
Been trying to find a game to stream after i finish my current playthrough. I really think this is it! It sounds fun and mabye i could even find some people tocollabeorate with, since playing alone gets lonely after a while😢
I wanted to play this so badly during my high-school years, but never got around to it. Then Everquest was released and it ate my life for 5 years. Also, there's something about the view angle that never sat right with me in this game. For example, you see trees and some other things from a side view, while the rest of the game is almost top-down.
Wonderful video, I really wish more people would try Outlands, it's the perfect recipe of an absolute gem of old school MMO with 2024 QOL and mechanics. I will also say for anyone interested, you have so many things you can do in this game, this video only scratched the surface :)
Outlands is probably higher than ever. After the release of the Wildlands expansion, their concurrent player count jumped very high. I have not been online for a few months now (I was literally addicted to the game and not working on any videos for the channel and had to force myself to quit lol) but it has only been growing. I definitely recommend trying it out and joining a guild like Sir - they can help kickstart your first character so you are not grinding away at the beginning for the basics like your first codex and aspect. If you can get past the steep learning curve at the beginning, I think it is an incredibly fun and rewarding experience
@@PixelRookieOfficial Thanks for the answer. I got one more question if you’re willing to answer, how long would it take to be pvp ready? I was a huge pker on runescape/osrs and love pvp in mmos. Idk if it’s dominated by guilds or not or anything like that.
@@Confy__ I never really did pvp but I was part of a guild called D^O (Dark Order) who was HEAVY in pvp. That is probably the easiest template to build as it requires no codex or aspect to use (pvp doesn't account for these bonuses as it is pvm focused except for a very small amount). It really comes down to what type of pvp build you want to make and spending the time to get those skills to GM, which is no TOO tedious to set up. The Outlands discord has a TON of helpful members to answer any specific questions too!
Also, feel free to comment any other questions or join my discord server and DM me (I might miss a comment reply on here) and I’m happy to answer any other questions. I am a huge fan of this game and if you put the time into learning it, I think it is a very rewarding game with a loooot to do and a very active community (that can sometimes be frustrating and a minority can be toxic due to non consensual pvp everywhere lol). Happy to help out however I can
@@PixelRookieOfficial Thanks I’ll check out the discords at some point. Idk if this makes me sound like a psycho but I love games where you can kill other players in the open world and take their stuff lol. So UO always sounded intriguing to me but I was too busy putting thousands of hours into osrs.
Played early UO when I was like 16 and for years in the late 90s-early 00s, had a tank mage, joined the Sosarian Socialist Party on the Catskills RP server. Remember the early days Server Wars when they went down for maintenance and progress wasnt saved so everybody went HAM PKing each other lmao.
To my surprise, I only recently learned that a modern alternative project from Ultima Online fans based on the game Legends of Aria has now been launched and continues to be developed - ruclips.net/video/RaoMs8c0-Q4/видео.html&ab_channel=ShardsofBritannia. It definitely deserves your attention. The ultima map, classes and much more have been ported, which will be very pleasant for fans of the old ultima and all those who are bored with modern donated MMO garbage dumps and want to look at the classics from a new perspective.
I really, really enjoyed this video. However 2 questions arose. What about skill scrolls? Back when I were playing some UO rip off on a pirated shard (that`s what UO pirated servers were called - shards) there were those like locations on which @ random mobs of waves would occur. After defeating enough mob waves @ proper rate (guild or few, with the pvp aspect involved as well) could do that... a boss would appear. Defeating the boss would drop Skill Scrolls out of 3 tiers... Something scroll allowing skills up to 105 level (lowest), Something else scroll allowing up to 110 skill level and Legendary Scroll up to 120 skill mastery. For example me being a wizard I had 120 Magic Cast (or whatever that skill was called) and my in game title was Legendary Wizard (in fact was Legendary Wrestler, because that was my unarmed fighting skill for avoiding the other mele and ranged fighting skills, also had Disarm as skill out of it). But for example how Legendary Wizard (120) skill worked (in fact I think 120 was kind of over kill and for example 120 Evaluating Intelligence, the wizard`s dmg pump for his skills if you will was way better), was as follow: You have 1x Skill that is like core, bread and butter skill... for example Energy Vortex (which is Blade Vortex Tier II in terms of dmg type and amount), amongst other skills of course. On 100 (max without a scroll) Magic you have like 70 or 75% chance to successfully cast Energy Vortex on each and every cast attempt. That leaves you with 25% chance to flop on a crucial cast in the moment. However obtaining 110 Skill scroll would bump you up to something like 85~90% which makes the chance for that high tier spell (and the others of it`s tier as well, of course) much more reliable... and on 120 Skill Scroll you have 100% sure shot with that skill... You can basically spam the vortex at will and cast your other mean stuffs like Paralyses, Flame Strike, Energy Bolt etc... in fact Paralyses and Energy bold I think were 100%s on 100 skill as well... but Flame Strike as main single target nuke was less % chance without 120 scroll. Some of the highest tier spells were pretty meh thou... like Polymorph... Allowing you to turn into Daemon or Swap Gender... In fact Swap Gender was actually viable when farming Succubus, since they were a lot more manageable as female, in case of male wizard. The second thing is Item Insurance... Game without Item Insurance is a bit too extreme for me. I mean this is how the shard began indeed, but once the items started becoming fancier, Item insurance was introduced. Basically for as long as you had Gold in the bank, you'd resurrect with your Insured Items on ~for a fee, substracted of your Bank Account and based in the Item ~tier. I am pretty curious about Skill Scrolls and Item insurance... Basically Skill Scrolls were at the time ~core mechanic while Item Insurance as something introduced latter was/is optional, but still makes the game more playable in comparison to full item loss on death.
Hey thanks so much for the comment! I am happy to try to provide more clarity on your two questions: Skill Scrolls are quite simple in Outlands. They are a random drop from mobs/treasure chests and each scroll is for a specific skill. If you "consume" the skill scroll, it increases the max you can train that skill by +1, up to +20 max, so you can technically get a skill to 120. There are also skill orbs that you can find randomly that increase the total number of skills you can have by +1, up to 720 (instead of 700). You can find players selling skill scrolls and skill orbs on the discord sell channel pretty much all of the time so you can focus on upgrading your skill of choice, it just gets a little pricey. This game does not have any insurance. There are key items like codices and spell books that can be blessed and blessed items cannot be looted from your body. Weapons and armor in this game are usually either player crafted, or you can find unidentified items from mob drops that can contain a few different prefixes, but there are not things like legendary loot with lots of skill buffs like what I experienced in retail UO. Basically, all of your weapons and armor can be stolen off your corpse, but are pretty easily replaced. You usually save your really good gear for group dungeons and boss fights where you are much less likely to be ganked or robbed. The UO Outlands wiki has a better description of this and there is a new player channel in the outlands discord with tons of helpful players. Check it out if you are interested!
Ty for inspiring me again, does it have the original UO soundtrack btw? That would be a huge selling point for me Ps, you don’t level up by doing “the thing” anymore? But by buying it ??
I actually play without music as I need to record footage and add my own BG music in post. You still need to level up any skill by doing the skill up to GM (100 points). Many of the skills can go up to 120, which requires you to buy 20 skill scrolls of that particular skill to increase the cap. You still need to use the skill to actually increase it regardless. Hope that helps!
That is SO COOL! I've always heard of UO back in the mid 2000's, but was busy playing other MMORPGS at the time, like Tibia and RuneScape, and in the end never got to try it. I was afraid that too much time had passed and UO was no longer on it's golden days, such is the fate of most MMOs, but this video was like a shining ray of light. Specially the knight ceremony, with many players lining up to actually roleplay the thing... It's beyond moving. I wonder it's not too late to blissfully invest thousands of precious hours like an addicted bum on this game - and have a great time...
Dude, recently a huge update was released to Outlands and the guild of Sir is big into roleplaying, which is a lot of fun. Not only that, they are super helpful to get you started with an aspect and codex to get you kickstarted with your character. Find Lord Black in the Outlands discord and tell him I sent you if you decide to play, they will help you out. I had to stop playing due to it being TOO much fun and I wasn’t working on my RUclips channel at all lol. It’s definitely not too late to play!
When UO came out... I thought we would be SOOOOO much farther ahead here in 2024 than we are! shit, UO has pretty much everything current MMO's have, IF NOT MORE!!! It's bonkers!
I feel like a lot of MMOs want to do "games as a service" more than just make a good game to get people to keep throwing money at them. I am not too keen on most modern MMOs anymore. Outlands being quite the exception of course :)
I went the Runescape route. I've always wanted to get into UO though. I played on shards back in the day, but never found one that really stuck. Tried retail not that long ago but just didn't have the time to grind. Maybe one day...
Holy Nostalgia batman. I can't remember exactly; but in old school UO the criminal system was a touch more unforgiving. It worked as it does here, except the more shit you did, the longer you stayed gray. After a few times it was basically permanent. Good news, is that there were a lot more blues than grays and they would vehemently go after people for screwing people over. It was such a good damn time. I miss UO's early days so much. Edit: Alright, I'm sold. Gonna hop on - fuck me this is bad. I know how long it took me to grind shit out when I was younger, I can't wait for the hell that awaits me, lol.
If you are asking for my personal opinion, the answer is *definitely not.* Outlands is a custom shard that is 100% free with nothing locked behind some crappy paywall. Just my opinion of course :P
Thank you for making this. I have been meaning to get back and outlands seemed so overwhelming. But this video gave me hope and I'll play again. I'm an archer bard so I'll give your progression a try. I'm at a point where my 11 yr old wants to play with me. I'm beyond elated, and will show him this video to get his feet wet lol😊
There’s no better time to come back than now. The big wildlands expansion is great. Honestly, my only complaint is that on peak hours it’s almost too crowded everywhere. A good problem to have for sure
I’m so glad! If you can get past the steep learning curve at the beginning, you’re in for a real treat! Also, join the guild ASAP! They can help you get your first codex and aspect, which is a huge help for someone that is just getting started. Sir is a great beginner friendly guild. Good luck out there :)
Thanks so much for the kind words! If I didn't have to spend so much time editing videos for the channel, I would definitely be playing way more Outlands still haha
UO was one of the first "big" MMOs and it also created many staples of modern mmo/survival/crafting games. I sunk too many hours into this game when I was younger.
oh lord I just caught the song you were playing at the tale end. Have you seen the meme with that clip from law and order where Ice Tea is telling the guy "that means ya gay."? A search for that line should get you there ; )
As someone who experienced the early days of ultima online (in my 40's no less) I have to say that if you think experiencing other players who want to kill you would be exciting then consider that each time you go into a fight with a mob, or mobs, there will be others who see nothing wrong with ambushing you when you are weakest and many of those will design their characters to kill other players. This forces you to either become just like them or be fodder for anyone who sees you as someone to kill. There was a reason origin split the facets. Most didn't want to pvp. So choose outlands if you want this. I see what they've done is something well done but remember my words.
Does the game really use all those Diablo 2 sounds, or did you edit them in yourself? The Chivalry spells. Portal and the swirly thing are both Paladin aura sounds (vigor and concentration if I recall)
It definitely does lol. I’m not sure how many but I’ve heard them while playing and immediately triggers nostalgia brain since I played a lot of D2 growing up haha
HI! thanks to your video I decided to start playing Outlands too... I wanted to ask you something, what was the first item you bought that allowed you to teleport? a rune or a blessed runebook?
I was using the chivalry spell for teleporting but without that you’ll want to get a rune book. You don’t want to keep the rune book in your bag unless it is blessed though. You can bless any tune book for 50,000 gold from the prevalian merchant. Once that is done, you don’t have to worry about losing it!
i have been trying to get into uo outlands but have a ton to learn, but until then am happy with my trial/error approach. anyways if anyone wants to party up my character name is Tickle Boy, would love to play alongside some ppl
There is a lot to digest but if you find a guild to join via their Discord server, that is an AMAZING way to get people to play with and helping through that learning curve
You ended up joining a really good guild.. Did you happen to run into the Orc role-playing guilds? Knights of Sir does a lot of interactions with them and so does the Yew Militia.. There are roleplayers everywhere always in character and you basically ended up joining one of the major RP guilds with the Knights of Sir, it's why they made you change your name..
last time i played the devs had some AFK checker to make sure that you are still at the computer and i got penalized for being AFK too long. is that not the case now, or is it area specific?
I am not aware of anything like that. Do you mean for scripted farming? Any scripts that help automate chopping wood, mining, skinning, etc require a CAPCHA to be entered once every 15-20 minutes or something like that. If you don't enter it in, you do not continue to farm. That is all I am aware of though.
I'm never a fan of advertisements interjected randomly into videos (although I understand you need to make money somehow), you found a way to comedically and naturally advertise World of Tanks. Good job man, this may be crazy but just because of that you have earned a subscriber
Haha thanks man. I will be 100% open in saying I am a SELLOUT any chance I can get with sponsorship opportunities, but I like to try and have fun with them so it can *maybe* be an entertaining bit. Cheers!
Thanks World of Tanks for sponsoring this video! Be sure to use my link to play World of Tanks today and get $20 of in-game content for FREE: link.thenode.gg/PixelRookieApr24
dude, rad video!
Awesome video… brings me back playing this game… I loved it so much, and you are awesome at playing and the awesome commentary …. 👍👍👍👍
I got to like level 30+, had lot of stuff, got ganked, lost my stuffs, cried and never touched the game again hahaha, good times.
quick question can I play as a blacksmith?
@dragonhammer0625 indeed you can! There are people that have characters dedicated to farming materials like mining ore and then crafting it into good gear
Gotta admit, these UO videos are really selling it to me. Looks a lot of fun, and arguably better than most MMO's these days.
The grind is pretty intense but I am a bit of a sucker for the grind. If you join a guild, it makes it all exponentially easier too since you do more as a group. Honestly, if I didn’t have to edit videos for a YT channel, I’d play this game a ton hahaha. I highly recommend it
Outlands is great played a ton B4 and through COVID. Got to busy since 2022 to hop in but it's well worth it
Outlands is fantastic.
INDEED IT IS
@ShadowWolf2023-yp5zg I mean, I don’t think this is a big time mainstream game because some of the mechanics are nuanced and the grind can be pretty intense. What you do get as well is a really awesome community and lots of activity with the server
I’ll never forget when Lisa simpson, a filthy red, took my life and my savings many a moons ago. I love that the game is still around all these years later.
hahaha you remembered the whole name
@@TheRoboito the adrenaline coursing through my veins encoded it into my long term memory instantly. What a rush!
@@HallelujahHotdog haha i remember my first e-girlfriend on runescape. similarly i understand. hahah
Haha, my first PK was from Homer Simpson.
@@junkequation my proudest moment was discovering the black bag trick used against me and using it against other newbs. UO at it finest
I had to take a break so my channel doesn't die from inactivity :P
I am happy that you found this video and honestly, I am bummed out that I didn't capture that moment because it was equally as exciting for me to have someone randomly recognize me while we were doing simple dungeon crawls haha. Cheers and best of luck out there!
The editing, sound and delivery 10/10. Ultima Online for those of us that have been addicted to it through the years is very hard to explain to someone from the outside. Great video!
Thanks so much for the high praises. Looking forward to connecting with you soon :)
Like he was huge wow fan, befriended himself with the substitue teacher instantly who occassionly went to raids with him( so been told )
The class teacher also played with us the games weve been playing.
Dude, thank you for taking all our advice and making this video!!!
Also full of nostalgic and with so on point things like the DM Boss fight the Terran music or the Berserk OST with the guild part!! so touching
You sir deserve massive success as youtuber!
agree , good one :)
That’s funny! Let me know if you have any air cores you could hook me up with since this expansion has made my air dexxer quite viable haha
Epic video as always Mr Hotdog! Glad to see you on Outlands. Its amazing server with an amazing community. Hope to bump into you in the world some day!
Thanks so much! It’s a great game with a great community, even if I still get mad at darn red PKers haha
I love watching UO videos, because at this time in my life I had friends, I had a life, I was happy, I didn't care about anything, just venturing into this world with my friends... I miss it....=/
Ah the good ol days. If my brother and I were able to play this back in the day, it would have been glorious. Now, life has other priorities a lot of the time.
i feel u buddy i feel u :(
indeed - the nostalgia hits very hard with UO.
Same…was my first MMO and i lived this game at the time. No game has compared since. My main was a tamer/fencer with my trained pair of deakes😂
Amazing vid. Surprised you don't have 1mill subs. Got me downloading UO Outlands right now!
Thanks so much for the kind words
it's been so cool seein u out in the world! good job making all that progress
Thanks so much
AMAZING editing, the Chris bard fail shot was hilarious.
If anyone is curious AND if you have free time because it WILL take up your time, this is a really fun thing to get into for awhile.
now excuse me i got some sneaking to do w my trapped chests.
we preplaned like this back in 1997 when they were rolling out new servers after the initial 6(?).
I spent a lot of time playing UO back in the late 90s. This video hit me right in the nostalgia nerve
dude i gotta start playing this tomorrow. its super late and i gotta sleep but this video 100% sold me on it. UO outlands i shall see you soon!
I absolutely adore your narration, and the fact that I know most of the music tracks you pull from is just some heavy nostalgia for someone who's had great memories of their source material ( like classic UO and Neverwinter Nights )
Subbed.
This video was epic. Please make more.
Thanks so much! With Wildlands just a few weeks away, it’s hard to not play more
UO Outlands is exactly what UO Classic SHOULD have become.
I’m so unbelievably happy you decided to make a second video covering uo outlands as I believe it is the definitive way to play and a big RUclipsr covering it is gonna bring so many more players in
I hope the video gets more traction and draws in a bigger audience. The game definitely deserves it!
I was enjoying the video and realized partway through that we're in the same guild. Great video, and welcome. Huzzah.
Hahaha it’s always good to see another knight of Sir here. Huzzah!
I’m a month in and I’m having a great time in outlands. It’s fun to rediscover UO with some old school/new school!
Great video! Thank for playing outlands you made a lot of progress in seemingly a short period of time.
This brings back a lot of memories from 97 to 01. I was Arcon on Baja shard with the Lands End [ZZ] guild.
Can someone tell me the song playing at 15:54? I think it's from a game, but I don't remember it, big nostalgia!
Ive Played on Oblivion shard, from 2001 to 2004, still my favorite mmo so far......Thanks for the memories Pixel
@@overbe Still patiently waiting to win a pass on one of my 3 accounts lol. I keep checking every evening
Cheers
Cheers! Love that you're playing Outlands!
Cool to see classic UO is still available to play and with many new improvements on non-retail. I played a ton on non-retail RPG servers back in the day and those are some of my best MMO memories.
nice you randomly stumbled across my alliance doing a boss rofl
great content!
They were very cool with a random idiot trying to help them with the mini lol. They even gave me a succulent meal after rezing me for the trouble lol
Just started YT recently - hopefully I can be as successful as you!
Thanks for such great content!!
Straight up. UO Outlands is the best Ultima Online experience. Appreciate the content, brother. 👊
Thanks for the kind words and I am glad to share this video with you all. I love your PFP by the way lol
Hey Hulk Hogan, are you racist, to a point?
Hulk Hogan hates minorities.
Really enjoyed the video. It does a great job of covering a new player's experience from zero to hero.
my dad played this game when it first came out, and i mean when it first came out, in the 90's, he was a big part of the community and was one of the most famous people back then.
Hope to see ya all ingame for fun and fights :) great video Sir !
Really appreciate the kind words. I’m glad you were able to enjoy the video. Maybe we will cross paths one day in Avadon haha
Those Sims 1 OSTs really keeping me to watch your videos.
but I also love UO, and this video. such a vibe.
Great video - thanks Pixe! This was a super entertaining and informative review!
Thanks so much. I was spending a bit too much time enjoying this game so I had to cut back haha. It really is a great experience
Crafting an upgrade and then getting it jacked immediately is true MMORPG activity.
FYI the 3D spiritual successor to UO is Mortal Online 2. It’s a game that’s extremely rough around the edges but despite that it’s incredibly unique and rewarding
Such a solid video. Can't help but to watch it again and again.
My man 😎
Every view is much appreciated
Been trying to find a game to stream after i finish my current playthrough. I really think this is it! It sounds fun and mabye i could even find some people tocollabeorate with, since playing alone gets lonely after a while😢
Lots of active guilds that are also beginner friendly are great to join. Sir is a good example of this
Welcome to Outlands!
Thank you my dear tree friend 🎄🌲🌴🌳🎋🏝️
I wanted to play this so badly during my high-school years, but never got around to it. Then Everquest was released and it ate my life for 5 years.
Also, there's something about the view angle that never sat right with me in this game. For example, you see trees and some other things from a side view, while the rest of the game is almost top-down.
Probably has to do with the game only having a X and Y axis with a multi-layered map.. Only other game I know with a similar structure is Tibia..
Wonderful video, I really wish more people would try Outlands, it's the perfect recipe of an absolute gem of old school MMO with 2024 QOL and mechanics. I will also say for anyone interested, you have so many things you can do in this game, this video only scratched the surface :)
How is the player count these days? Been thinking about trying it out.
So UO always sounded intriguing to me but I was too busy putting thousands of hours into osrs.
dude, you're awesome. Subbed! I love Outlands.
Played early UO when I was like 16 and for years in the late 90s-early 00s, had a tank mage, joined the Sosarian Socialist Party on the Catskills RP server. Remember the early days Server Wars when they went down for maintenance and progress wasnt saved so everybody went HAM PKing each other lmao.
this video is just amazing, thank you
Fantastic story, lol... really awesome done!! Outlands FTW!!
Thanks for the kind words - I am very happy you enjoyed it!
I tried to play this when I was like 12 which is 25 years ago and had no clue what I was doing
Welcome to me playing this game in the present lol
I am happy to try to provide more clarity on your two questions:
Skill Scrolls are quite simple in Outlands.
Check it out if you are interested!
did you add the diablo 2 sound effects to your gameplay? or is that UO server using those?
Ty for inspiring me again, does it have the original UO soundtrack btw? That would be a huge selling point for me
Ps, you don’t level up by doing “the thing” anymore? But by buying it ??
I actually play without music as I need to record footage and add my own BG music in post. You still need to level up any skill by doing the skill up to GM (100 points). Many of the skills can go up to 120, which requires you to buy 20 skill scrolls of that particular skill to increase the cap. You still need to use the skill to actually increase it regardless. Hope that helps!
@@PixelRookieOfficial don’t you miss the OST tho 🥹 ty that actually helped a lot I’m seriously considering getting back into this game lol
Gonna have to give it a try.
I’ve been wanting to play osrs but this sounds like a nice alternative
Love these vids, not long been playing uoo myself.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Maybe we'll cross paths in the Wildlands some day :)
Man, your editing and humor is awesome!
I really appreciate the kind words! I put a lot of time and effort into this project and I’m really happy it shows!
I am loving all the old music. I even think I was hearing "Actraiser" music at one time.
Heck yeah man, we gotta keep the cool tunes coming for us old, nostalgic gamers haha
VERY good video - please make more of these!
Thanks so much! I am wanting to do more Outlands content in the near future
So how is it going? :)
@trymusic4life PRETTY GOOD HOW ANOUT YOURSELF?
Hi I had a question I might back back to ultima online and go back to lake superior.i played 2001 til 2011.is it worth getting a paid subscription.
If you are asking for my personal opinion, the answer is *definitely not.* Outlands is a custom shard that is 100% free with nothing locked behind some crappy paywall.
Just my opinion of course :P
gonna play this looks alot of fun!
Outlands wooo!! Great video!
@@PixelRookieOfficial I'm already on! Woohoo!
Outlands is absolutely amazing, thanks for this awesome review
I have to agree! I love this game and my only regret with it is that I am not able to spend more time playing it haha
I played on Atlantic back at launch, I'm installing the client as I type this :) thanks for the info on how to get involved;)
The only game I currently play is outlands. This was a great video.. Well done sir!
Thanks so much for the kind words! If I didn't have to spend so much time editing videos for the channel, I would definitely be playing way more Outlands still haha
Hell yeah, hearing LISA's soundtrack in there.
Great video by the way, I can see why this game is being talked a lot even today.
please more UO videos, best videogame ever
UO was one of the first "big" MMOs and it also created many staples of modern mmo/survival/crafting games. I sunk too many hours into this game when I was younger.
oh lord I just caught the song you were playing at the tale end.
Have you seen the meme with that clip from law and order where Ice Tea is telling the guy "that means ya gay."?
A search for that line should get you there ; )
lmao I can safely say that I never saw that meme before but I used to LOVE Law & Order: SVU. I just looked it up and that is hilarious
You have a char called i die a lot?
Very nice video and funny....had a good laugh a few times !!! Keep it going!
UO Outlands FTW !
Thanks so much! I will be working on a Wildlands expansion video sometime soon too :O
@@PixelRookieOfficial so sacred journey work without rune here? Lol
man i remember watching my dad play UO every day when i was learning how to read in 2003, good times
i have been trying to get into uo outlands but have a ton to learn, but until then am happy with my trial/error approach.
anyways if anyone wants to party up my character name is Tickle Boy, would love to play alongside some ppl
I never engaged in the URK Roleplay battles but I really enjoy people being in character in the castle. It’s a lot of fun
the only issue i ever had was the user interface is really hard to get into.
Great Video huzzah!
*HUZZAH!*
I would love to see some more outlands videos bro this was great
I would like to cover wildlands once it is released as well :)
last time i played the devs had some AFK checker to make sure that you are still at the computer and i got penalized for being AFK too long. is that not the case now, or is it area specific?
I am not aware of anything like that. Do you mean for scripted farming? Any scripts that help automate chopping wood, mining, skinning, etc require a CAPCHA to be entered once every 15-20 minutes or something like that. If you don't enter it in, you do not continue to farm. That is all I am aware of though.
that is definitely not a thing on this server no worries
I'm never a fan of advertisements interjected randomly into videos (although I understand you need to make money somehow), you found a way to comedically and naturally advertise World of Tanks. Good job man, this may be crazy but just because of that you have earned a subscriber
Haha thanks man. I will be 100% open in saying I am a SELLOUT any chance I can get with sponsorship opportunities, but I like to try and have fun with them so it can *maybe* be an entertaining bit. Cheers!
Great video and it is nice to know what I missed when I was a kid
If only....
This was a nice video, wish more people would know about this game.
I failed in High School because of this game back in the early 2000s. For me it's not just the best MMO of all time, it's the best game full stop.
Love to see it, long live outlands!!
And soon.. *The Wildlands* 😎
