I remember when I first heard this off of their unplugged performance. Just pure chills and beauty. AIC is my favorite to come out of the Grunge scene.
The Great Gadfly couldn’t agree more, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden were all better than Nirvana. Nirvana’s songs are boring as fuck in my opinion.
jacob gifford Agee 100% Nirvana is the one that has no lasting value. AIC is the best that came out of Seattle scene, and they are more metal than grunge.
Alice In Chains is amazing but nirvana is not overrated, they’re top songs are overrated if you listen to some of there smaller songs they’re much better
@@Jakeofalltrades777 well personnaly I find pearl jam and Soundgarden boring and I love nirvana and AIC but I agree that there are great bands , just not for me
I love Jerry's playing so much. He always used simple chord progressions, but he always made things interesting and his verse to chorus transitions were incredible.
My favorite band of ALL TIME!! They were in the shadows of Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the 90s. I feel like they never got the credit they deserved! Their unplugged is easily the BEST unplugged ever done by MTV. I loved this video Marty 🤘
Riley Sands I agree, especially with the whole backstory of Lane using right before he came out before nutshell. The band didn’t even know if he was going to be able to perform. He’s got long sleeves on because he’s got a chill and he was just using. And then he steps out and just kills it!!
@Fishy Vagina i’ve always thought nirvana had a very different sound than other grunge bands, probably down to nirvans punk roots while aic and pearl jam were more hair and glam metal influenced.
A friend of mine used to play Down in a Hole and Nutshell when we are sitting around the campfire, drinking beer and enjoying youth. I met my first girlfriend that time and we were listing to the whole unplugged album all summer long. This was 20 years ago...😅
I taught an old friend how to play guitar, I taught him this song and Nutshell, I remember we were sitting on a dock looking out at the waves in the inlet as the sun set whilst playing those songs, good times.
Yeah I agree, but the Hall is a joke anyway. I mean it took the forever to put Rush in? One of the most talented bands of all time and they just got in a couple of years ago? AIC should def be in and I hope they do get in
The RnR Hall of Fame is a JOKE! No Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio or Scorpians? Yet the Kinks, T REX and Public Enemy are?!!! TREX? Twisted Sister should be in there first!
I even play the picking into in all chords and it sounds cool. I loved Alice in Chains from day one. We will never have another vocalist like Layne. Today's his birthday. Which is why I'm learning this today.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's such a great blessing to have Papa Marty to teach in this time of quarantine. Thank you again for all your hard work and dedication.
In Germany we say: DANKESCHÖN Marty! Every Nirvana Song I can play, i look a video from you. And now this song.. i love it so much! Its a bit tricky for me, but i don't give up. My son was born on 5th Dec 2019. I didn't play for a long time! But now i feel how much i missed it! Thanks Marty from Germany!
Any time I see a tutorial by you, I can't help myself. Marty, you have a way of breaking everything down and simplifying it that just makes me understand so much better. Thank you for the great content that you have provided us over the years!
I’ve been following your videos for awhile now, this one especially. As of today, I can now play one of my favorite songs of all time by one of the greatest bands of all time. That’s because of you Marty! Much love and thanks for everything bro! 🤟🏼😝
Marty I know all you get is thank yous but seriously you have taught Thousands of young people like me how to play an amazing instrument that I will play till the day I die, quite literally from my first G cord to this Ive learned through you, without these vids I would of never learned because i shure as hell don't have the money for lessons so sincerely thank you!
Thank you so much for teaching this masterpiece, Marty! I´ve been learning so much great songs because of you, and feeling more and more persistent about getting better on the guitar. Your work and talent are truly precious for everyone who likes music! Cheers from Brazil! :D
Hey, Marty. I hope you see this. I just wanted to thank you for being the awesome guy that you are. I recently got into guitar (Been playing since August 2019) and my father bought an acoustic about a month ago. We've been learning our favorite licks and riffs from your channel and it's really allowed us to bond and a lot over the last few weeks and i just wanted to thank you for that opportunity. My father and I were always close, and I look up to him, but we simply don't have a ton of stuff in common to share together. Your lessons opened up a door that allowed us to spend time together with a common interest. That's something that the two of us haven't done in almost a decade. As a 17 year old who just feels down on his luck right now, returning to those good old days of having a way to relate and spend time with him means the world to me. I know you probably won't see this comment, but I'm hoping that putting this out there and least gives it a chance of catching your eye so you can know how much I appreciate it.
Was able to hear the lyrics in my head, just by watching you olay the chords on mute. Used to play the dirt album over and over. Never get tired of it.
One of my favorite Alice and Chains songs... probably my favorite. Alice In Chains is my favorite 90s band I love their music so much. Their music really means a lot. I have their albums Dirt, and Facelift. Such awesome albums with really good songs that drown you in it. The songs on Dirt are some of the first songs I learned to play when I was first starting out. It was Them Bones. That’s a simple really fun, quick song to play. I love Alice In Chains, their guitarist Jerry Cantrell is awesome, and Layne Staley had a voice that made us hear all his feeling. RIP Layne Staley forever I’ll be listening to AIC. Love that band so much.
Tips I just learned: To tune your guitar a half step down, put the capo on the first fret. Tune your guitar like it's a standard tuning, remove the capo and voila I was about to quit because I don't like changing the tuning on my guitar but I'm glad I didn't, easy to learn and very satisfying sound. Thanks Martyyy !
Julien M even easier way is to tune your A string to the 4th fret on your low e and then tune the guitar like normal from there. Just make sure you tune your e string to the Ab instead of tuning your A back up to standard lol
Thank you for all your lessons marty ive been watching your videos for the past 4 or so years I quit playing for a bit due to life and what not but now I’m back and thank you so much man you’re the only guy who can explain how to play I find
Hey Marty man you just make my day I have some of your online classes and plan to get them all soon, everyone that is thing about starting guitar get them you will learn so much. any way keep up the good work love it man i will follow you as long as i live
This brings back the memories of last year when i saw them for the 2nd time with KoRn and they played this song and the whole ampitheater put on the lights from their phone. So beautiful!
Thank you for this. AIC was big but they never TRULY got the recognition they deserved. In my opinion they’re leaps and bounds ahead of Nirvana and other bands who’ve gained similar recognition. I’ve felt this way since I was in (8th?) grade, and feel the same now that I’m nearing 40. This song hits emotions I never feel otherwise.
I love you Marty, keep up the great work bro, idk how old this video is, didn't check, but I hope you see this, much love brotha, thank you for all of the lessons, you have inspired me greatly since childhood.
Haven't tuned in for a lesson in awhile Marty, but I'm glad to see you're still putting out content. Love the new video quality, I started watching you several years ago. Thank you for all of your effort to make guitar more accessible. Liked and subscribed
Thanks so much for this Marty. Haven't gotten this outta my head since you posted it. Since I have nothing else to do during this isolation time, I've almost mastered this!
This was easy for me to figure out by ear but I was always puzzled by that transition at the end of the chorus. Internet tabs were never the answer. This helps a lot. Thanks again Marty!!
When I watch your videos, it may be just to see how to play a particular song, but I also end up learning so many different tactics, styles and what not. That being said, I would LOVE if you’d go over River of Deceit my Mad Season
Awesome guitar tutorials Marty, you’ve helped my guitar learning and appreciate all the effort you put into these lessons! You’re truly a great musician!! Cheers!
Great lesson like always! My friend would have quit playing the guitar if it wasn't for you and your lessons..thank you for working so hard on your videos/explanations.
AIC is my favorite band, awesome stuff they put out. I tried this one the first time I picked up a guitar. Been playing almost 2 years now thanks to a lot of your videos. I'm gonna relearn this, cant wait. 🤘🤘🤘
I was wondering if you could make a lesson on “The Wanderer”by Dion. I love that song and it’d be crazy if you could please teach myself and others on how to play that classic. Also you’ve been a huge inspiration to me so thank you very much.
This song haunts my soul. Thank you for breaking it down for people like me going solo with an acoustic. Songs like this make life beautiful for sure but I have such a hard time boiling multiple guitar parts down to o e so I can play and sing just only me.
Hey Marty thanks! Listened to your lesson, went back to the original for inspiration, went back to your lesson and picked it up in 30 minutes. On to the next one 👊✊ Rock will never ☠

I love Jerry's playing so much. He always used simple chord progressions, but he always made things interesting and his verse to chorus transitions were incredible.
Yes, and he somehow managed to make the songs sound sound dark and gloomy enough without making them unnecessarily edgy.
My favorite band of ALL TIME!! They were in the shadows of Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the 90s. I feel like they never got the credit they deserved! Their unplugged is easily the BEST unplugged ever done by MTV. I loved this video Marty 🤘

Riley Sands I also find it funny because Alice was out before nirvana and to me is more of a complete band
@Fishy Vagina i’ve always thought nirvana had a very different sound than other grunge bands, probably down to nirvans punk roots while aic and pearl jam were more hair and glam metal influenced.
They were in the shadows because Nirvana was better..society chose that
I had to double check that I didn't write this comment because I feel exactly the same way brother 😭
A friend of mine used to play Down in a Hole and Nutshell when we are sitting around the campfire, drinking beer and enjoying youth. I met my first girlfriend that time and we were listing to the whole unplugged album all summer long. This was 20 years ago...😅
I feel nostalgic for that moment and i wasn't even there. Nutshell is awesome..kinda a bummer for a campfire I'd think tho
I taught an old friend how to play guitar, I taught him this song and Nutshell, I remember we were sitting on a dock looking out at the waves in the inlet as the sun set whilst playing those songs, good times.

Mr.SmithGNR Smith 🙂 I hope you have a good day.
@@kaleb.metzger were you replying to me bro? I love playing guitar at the beach bro🤙🏽
The fact that Alice In Chains isn’t in the Rock n Roll hall of fame just boggles my mind
Matthew Myers they care more about mainstream reputation rather than actual musicianship. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s how I feel about the hall
Yeah I agree, but the Hall is a joke anyway. I mean it took the forever to put Rush in? One of the most talented bands of all time and they just got in a couple of years ago? AIC should def be in and I hope they do get in
Twidds that was just wrong dude.
I feel like the rock and roll hall of fame focuses more on mainstream and super influential artists
The RnR Hall of Fame is a JOKE! No Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio or Scorpians? Yet the Kinks, T REX and Public Enemy are?!!! TREX? Twisted Sister should be in there first!
Killing it with these Marty. AIC is always appreciated 🙏
marty is a god damn life saver. when you need to learn something but only got 30 min, marty is the maaan

Yes..I agree
Fuck yeah I’d love to play that song
I was dying for him to come in at the start with "Bury me softly in this wooooomb"
