I always stay within 10 to 15 yards with my ole Fred Bear Grizzly recurve. Just 40 pounds. Has always been a good bow for me. Can hold or release quickly as needed. Like an old friend, really. It knows it’s limits as I do. Mutual respect in a sense. My confidence takes a hit when I lose that mindset.
I’ve got a pile of homemade bows. Some are broken, some shoot decent. I enjoyed making them BUT to be honest there is only one bow of my many bows that I have. Now I’ve been shooting trad since the mid 90’s. The one bow that I shoot the best is a recurve I bought because I was kicking around the idea of bow fishing. This bow was advertised as a bow fishing bow but I wanted to test it on targets without the fishing gear and it is the easiest bow I’ve ever tuned. I can actually tune many different arrows combinations very simply. I paid $75 for a Martin Jaguar takedown 55# @28”. The solid composite riser just reduces hand shock and all the weird issues I’ve had to deal with, with all wooden bows or wood/fiberglass. The arrow rest is adjustable in or out to make tuning a breeze. I shoot 590gr goldtip traditionals with Zwickey Eskimo’s. I only shoot my broadheads. I’ll also say I’ve tried every broadhead out there and Zwickey Eskimos are just deadly and they are very strong. I have hit rocks and the tip may get damaged but nothing a file can’t take care of and it’s back in service again. Of course this is all my opinion, and everyone has different points of view, just stating mine because this combination is what makes me the most confident. So confident I shoot out to 50yds and hit the target, not bragging it just took 30yrs to find my confidence. Love the content enjoy watching it keep up the good work.
Very true words my friend. My favorite bow I own is a Timber Ridge recurve from 3Rivers. Out shoots everything and haven’t found something I like more.
What do you guys think?

Some days are definitely better than others. I’m 100% committed to hunting with my Kodiak Hunter this season.
