Everyone thinks 14c28n was developed for Kershaw, that was 13c26. While a great edc steel, it's much inferior to 14c28n. 14c28n is Sandviks "high end" stainless, and was developed for straight razors because it has a very fine carbide structure and extremely low impurities, nothing I've ever used takes a razor edge quite like 14c28n, scary, terrifyingly sharp. You can whittle hairs with it with very little work on the edge. And with stropping you can hold that razor edge pretty much indefinetly. I haven't sharpened my garberg in a year and it still shaves. Just here to educate!
I was just at a gun store today and needed a new EDC knife and noticed this brand,.. I picked up the P801 model,.. I cant believe these are just 30.00 bucks,... A new favorite !!
This guy is great, been collecting knives for ever, got my first one when I was in second grade in 1956 from my dad,Chris IMHO is the real deal out of all the reviewers I've watched, you can bank on everything he says,he's honest and has no agenda and I feel he represents most of us working men out there who can't afford the most expensive gear on the market but finds and uses the best bang for the buck items
There is a lot more of us Lefty's than there was when I was young . I truly wish manufacturing companies would take this is consideration when building items like knives .
14C28N a martensitic stainless chromium steel with a chemistry optimized for high quality professional knife applications and is one of Sandvik's own developed and produced range of knife steels. Sandvik is one of the biggest companies in Sweden. Infos here: smt.sandvik.com/de/produkte/strip-steel/strip-products/knife-steel/ Data sheet for 14C28N: smt.sandvik.com/de/material-center/datenblatter/strip-steel/14c28n/ The well known Mora Garberg is one of the knives with a 14C28N blade for example.
Yeah, it's hard to go wrong with these Ruike (RAKE) knives. The steel should make them a good bit more expensive, and the action is better than almost anything else under $100. I have two so far and I have my eye on 2 more.
Chris - I have a Real Steal knife that I bought over a year ago. You should check it out. The model is H6 Plus and it is in 14C28N steel. The knife is a frame lock with the same features as the Ruike P108; such as the lock switch on the frame lock, fold-over deep carry clip, etc. The H6 Plus has great action, smooth and free. The action is as good as any premium knife; at least on my knife. The knife was $42 when I bought it in early '16.
I know this is old, but your review is spot on.... this brand is surprisingly well made. Got my first and I was very impressed, especially at these price points. Thank you.
I like it, for the price. Pocket clip is a little funny but it goes in and out the pocket very easy. The lock is sharp and will hurt your thumb. No texture on the flipper tab makes it very slippery. The spine is sharp too but I like the knife overall.
Hey love your vids And in this one you convinced me I bought this knife and wow is it amazing I've had it for a few weeks but man I love it so far I appreciate what you do keep it up!
Chris, please if you can, make a short video about Your application techniques of the OBENAUF'S to one of the leather sheaths. Would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Since your first video reviewing the other folder I went looking at other knives but them, and at this point the jager fixed blade had caught my eye for a hopefully near future acquisition.
beauty...going to buy 1 now. Update.... $39.95 on ebay. On it's way! :) Love the "machine" look to this knife. Update...just got my Ruike , x-cellent ;). Smoothest action of all my knives under $60 .My new favorite edc. HIGHLY recommend. Thankx.
I think the mora Garberg uses the same steel, might not be the sandvik though. They also have a bushcraft/outdoors knife called the Jager. Not many decent reviews on it.....
I have the Jager. It's better than i was expecting. Edge retention is better than my ESEE 4 & most Ka-Bar & Ontario knives. I can't believe it's made in China.
+Freeway Warrior I can't do brands that while they might be very well made, try to clone other companies stuff. Goes against knife designer ethics. I wouldn't like it to find some China company stealing my designs.
For those that have no budget or live in country like mike that sells everything twice as much as in the US. even if our dollars would be at par. desparate to get some knife at a price tag i can afford even ruike are like at 50.95$cdn (strait from Ruike canada) compare to 39.95 you paid to a dealer.
to me...I like it better when you put your own edge on the blades before testing...to me...how sharp it comes does nothing to show how good or bad a knife is....it's nice not having to sharpen it out of the box...any knife can come sharp out of the box...but it doesn't mean it's going to hold an edge or be a good knife...just means someone at the factory did a good job sharpening it...
Thank you!! Finally someone who understands. I never leave the edge as from the factory. First time I get it I have to mess with it. Putting the same edge Chris always does, would be a better control for testing knife to knife. At least the edge quality can be the same, then things like retention, and sharpenability can be tested on a baseline.
ive had this knife for over a month. Great knife. Couple of issues are with mine the secondary lock button has some play (havent tried tightening it yet) & in the folded position ive noticed the tip can be a little close to the scale end. I understand the streamlined profile but you may get a little skin caught on it when its in your pocket & run your finger tip down it.
The tip should have been buried in the scale a bit further. Any pocket lint will make the exposed tip problem a lot more problematic with lockup failures as well. I ended up making a slip case to avoid any problems and cutting of the thumb. Otherwise mine has been a good blade albeit a bit slippery.
Definitely looking forward you your review on the Real Steel knives. I'd really like to see you review the Real Steel Thor. It's my favorite Real Steel knife and it uses that dame 14C28N steel. :)
My Real Steel E571 has the 14C28N stamp as well & looks similar to the Ruike p128. The Real Steel RS7812 has a similar look to this p108- but it is almost twice the price (also 14CN28N stamped). These knives look like design variants to each other, like they split them between the brands. IDK how to determine D2 steel on the RS brand; maybe its the steel on other knives from RS?
I have had one for a while. It is well made, but the design has a few inherent flaws. The knife hates even a little bit of pocket lint and will fail to lock up unless it is kept spotless. I made a slip case for it to fix that problem. The tip is not covered by a lot of the scale and if it does not lock up 100% you can slice your thumb open on it very easily. Once again the slip case seems to stop that happening. But the designer should have left a bit more scale on the business end to protect the user. The only other issue is slipperiness. But for the price it is a well made folder.
I have had it for a few months and since I put it in a slip case it has not happened again. I hope that fixes it, because I like it well enough to want to use it.
These definitely look like a good purchase, I'd be keen also for you to try some real steel, there's been a couple I've seen and like the look of but would be good to know your thoughts. I'd like to hear good feedback on d2, haven't tried any yet but the esse zancudo is now available in d2, same price as the aus8. (Which is my current edc ) Supposed to be 8/10 edge retention for bargain prices. ????
Yep, looks great and cuts when sharpened, but most knives have to be touched up out of the box. Yes, I would buy one of these knives if I needed on, but I don't so.... maybe as a gift. Just finished lunch so back to your email. ☺
Chris , most Real Steel folders are made from that 14c28n , just like that Ruike you have . Its a good , higher tier budget steel, probably as good as VG10 (IMO), but definitely better than that Chinese crap 8cr . But watch out for some of those lesser known Chinese companies,(Y-Start) it seems they're miss labeling some D2 knives . Watch Cedric /Ada's video (just out today) on a D2 Y-SHIT knife.
Chris, a three minute into commercial?? Wow! If I wasn't a loyal subscriber I would have skipped it. I let it play so you could get paid. I'm assuming the longer the commercial the more money?? Anyway..........you're welcome and oh by the way, thanks for all the vids. lol.
+Dani marañon Only have one knife in that steel and it's a great edge. Another knife with the equivalent steel from another company (M390) is probably my favorite, with the 20cv knife being a close second.
So.. due to this review I ordered this knife. The good news: I agree with the overall review.. The bad news: the blade is warped on the knife I received. From the handle it curves to the right along the spine. I'll be reaching out to the manufacturer

For the money these are at the top of the list in my opinion
I was just at a gun store today and needed a new EDC knife and noticed this brand,.. I picked up the P801 model,.. I cant believe these are just 30.00 bucks,... A new favorite !!
Stop buying guns.

I am a RUIKE Fan! I have several and plan on owning them all!
I have one and I have no regrets on buying it,,I don't remember how much it was but the knife and blade is awesome also P801 is great...

Once I heard Ruike was a Fenix brand, I own a Fenix PD36R and LOVE it, I knew I needed to get a Ruike knife. Today I ordered the Ruike P105-Q for $35.
This is what I love about your channel.. I occasionally see stuff that I would normally never see. Thank you
I just saw the 14c28n on the blade @ 1:35 I just got a kershaw blur in that steel. I really like it . Edge retention is very decent .

Ok thought I had enough folders. Just didn't have that one that was just right. This is it. Thank you for doing this review, love the knife. Peace
Looks and sounds like a great budget knife. Thanks for looking elsewhere. Thanks. Tony
I've been tempted to buy the Ruike F118 Jager fixed blade knife but there is limited information on it. I like these folders. Thanks for sharing.
I need a budget folder and stainless steel , you just might have sold me on this Chris. Thanks bro
I know this is old, but your review is spot on.... this brand is surprisingly well made. Got my first and I was very impressed, especially at these price points. Thank you.
Great knife testing. Thatis a beauty of a knife.
I just ordered one. Hopefully I like it
Love the knife reviews!

Hi, Chris, according to the website they pronounce it RAKE, as in the thing you clean leaves up with in the garden,,,
I like the streamlined roboticron look. I think it would scare some people but I would buy it for sure. A nice test would be a cantaloupe.
After 100 years, PM101 got it ... nice
Since your first video reviewing the other folder I went looking at other knives but them, and at this point the jager fixed blade had caught my eye for a hopefully near future acquisition.

I own the p801_sf ,P128_sf,and theP831 , i love these knives ! The one your showing im getting next good video thanks!
Really love the sheath test! That's funny!
Love these knifes
Pretty sweet for the price 👍🏻😀✌🏼
I think the mora Garberg uses the same steel, might not be the sandvik though.

I carry a Kershaw everyday. Love'em!

Same here Lt. Here in UK my para 2 costs $240. I got it but am afraid to use it coz I'm not getting another! Ganzos are good beaters
Amen Chris. I have no prob!em with budget and offshore brands but could never support a company that blatantly steals designs.
PREPAREDMIND101 like schrade?
Not into the knifes much, but do have Ruike F118, nice fixed blade holds an edge really well.
IMO, Ruike knives are better than Real Steel knives.
Got the p801 and like it. Might even get another one.
The front side looks like a good place to lazer-in your winged logo. // Should cut beatifully with a few passes on your ceramic rod.
I'm getting the SR1 next. If you don't pick up one I'll send it to you for review if you are down for that.
Awesome!! cheap ,cool Thanks Chris 👊

It could be just me but I'm seeing some definite Persian influence on that knife blade.
Which are the differences of this knife between the model that ends in "SB" and the other that ends in "SF"?
PM101 - "Check this knife out..."
Me - "I'm trying, quit shaking it so much."
ive had this knife for over a month. Great knife. Try it dyslexic little brother the P801... Is another cool one and even more budget...
love these I might just pull the trigger on one of them.
You should hold your fingers with a curl when you were cutting on cutting board . It may save a finger. Nice knife.
This knife is really nice
5:27 Not able to keep paper dry....now that´s prepared for you :-D
Awesome review, rly love this series I've been looking for a decent edc and i might just go get one
Seems to cut well enough, but I would drop the secondary bevel..it's too high for my liking
How would you design a folding knife? What folder knife would you put into the Jessica list?
Definitely looking forward you your review on the Real Steel knives. I'd really like to see you review the Real Steel Thor. It's my favorite Real Steel knife and it uses that dame 14C28N steel. :)
Sweet, again.
M390 Kershaw Dividend ~$72.
You should try one of those WE knives. Chinese made but they make expensive and more reasonable priced knives.
+David Larue I looked at those but they didn't really flip my switch as much as the Ruike or Real Steel be ones did.
The lines on this one look better to me then the other one u reviewed recently by the same company
+i.kaslar I think so too, but the other actually CUTS better because of the more sweeping edge.
THE J-BOMB!!! YESSSS!!

Amazing knife
D2 steel is amazing IMO.
Thank you for the video great as always
14C28N is a stainless the Morakniv uses.....
Looks neat, but also seems to be very slim and I can't stand thin handles.
I have had one for a while. It is well made, but the design has a few inherent flaws. The knife hates even a little bit of pocket lint and will fail to lock up unless it is kept spotless. +1lupus I haven't experienced anything like that.
I have had it for a few months and since I put it in a slip case it has not happened again. I hope that fixes it, because I like it well enough to want to use it.
your top two links say 404 oops! page not found. where can I get one?

that is a very cool knife
Heaps informative video Chris. Cheering

PREPAREDMIND101 LOL
I love D2!
It rusts.
Is pretty cool looking knife
I like to see the more affordable options thank you. I see you use a belt sharpening tool u might want to check out trizac sharp belt by supergrit

"Introducing our new Ruike (pronounced "Rake") EDC knife line."
In your opinion what’s the best knife I can buy for around $50 something that won’t rust and edc for myself?
Chris I'd love to hear you opinion on the SOG Fielder
Have you tried the Ruike Jaeger? That's a Bitchin' Fixed Blade.
Cool.
I love the fixed blade your carrying please tell me what it's called
I'm Waiting on you to check out the cold steel Spartan
Chris please review the RUIKE Jager F118 - Silent Hero killer??
Chris, a three minute into commercial?? Wow! If I wasn't a loyal subscriber I would have skipped it. I let it play so you could get paid. I'm assuming the longer the commercial the more money?? Anyway..........you're welcome and oh by the way, thanks for all the vids. lol.
What about the sxb???
What working table is that?
Not great steel...it was dull after the cardboard...easy as hell to sharpen I bet
How would you even know?
hi, id like to know what do you think obout cpm 20cv +PREPAREDMIND101
+Dani marañon Only have one knife in that steel and it's a great edge. Another knife with the equivalent steel from another company (M390) is probably my favorite, with the 20cv knife being a close second.

I'll be reaching out to the manufacturer
Looks like a modern gentlemen's knife.
Does it pivot on washers or ball bearings?
+Josh Johnson bearings
PREPAREDMIND101 awesome. I've been gravitating towards ball bearing fitted knives lately. They're so Damn smooth.
Looks like a nice knife where is it made
China or at least according to BladeHQ
Sold! Also, edc update?
Who cares what his edc is. Its probably just a bunch of rocks and sticks.

Mrs. Preparedmind 101 must hate Rivers Edge Cutlery by now. Nice looking knife though.
nice lines, blade looks little on the thin side, but i like! thanks bro
Sanrenmue/Real Steel make great products. oh, the name is pronounced Rake. Ruike had a give away this past spring, winners had to know how to pronounce the name.
seems like a bad knife brand name...rake brings to mind something with a jagged edge...
I wasn't even close thinking it was Ruke.
