If they were brass, nylon or aluminum rods, I'd be all over this kit. Love everything I see, except the steel rods.

They are coated, and if you have a muzzle device, no chance of ruining your crown. It's a great kit. GET ONE. It's worth it for the scraper and chamber brush. I wish I had this kit 20 years ago, when I first got my AK.

Is that safe: to clean barrel with metal rod without plastic coating?

They are coated, and they are only 0.205" in diameter. Chances of wearing out your bore are miniscule. Was the rod that came with your AK coated? Mine wasn't.
