Great video and excellent point you make about the effect of the offset between the Picatinny rail and the receiver / bore. Another common problem that the AKs have is the misalignment between the side rails rivetted to the receivers and the axis of the barrels, which result in large windage deviations. The larger the misalignment the bigger the windage error, and in some cases the scope or the red dot may run out of adjustments before they can fully compensate for that, or leave only a little adjustment range. Marcus Tactical Solutions offer adjustable windage mounts that, apart from the possibility to slide the Picatinny rail to perfectly center over the receiver, they have the additional & unique feature of being able to pivot the Picatinny rail to eliminate the misalignments between the side rail and the barrel. They come with an adjustment tool that allows for precise tuning of the point of impact on target and enables zeroing the scope with the reticle centered inside the tube, thus keeping the entire adjustment range of scope’s windage turret intact. They have different models that fit the standard AK, the Zastava (Yugo) AK and the PSL rifles.

PrAKtikal Nurse, Id be very grateful for your opinion on the PSA AK103 with the rail system/ mlok system that come already installed on some of their 103 options. Some of their 100 series have a hinged dust cover n ppl have commented that those lose zero, but Im asking about the 103 series that is not hinged, Ive seen nothing but good reviews, I believe its the JT BILLET RAIL COMBO, what do you think about that dustcover rail holding zero, I think it will, looks solid to me n no bad reviews.

@JohnDoe-nh1ll personally, I prefer the TWS Dog Leg. My next AK I plan on making switch to is my Chinese MAK-90. Just purchased a side rail for a SAR-1. It is centered over the dust cover and locks up solid. Problem is my side mount is lower in the front than in the rear, which makes the mount's top pic rail closer/lower to the dust corner in the front than in the rear. Can I assume that's not a problem if I'm using a RDS (that I can zero)?
@andygold from what I understand that shouldn't be a problem. I will do a video soon on why I choose the distances I zero my firearms and the optics I choose in an upcoming video 😃👍🦬🦅🪶🌩
@klg200 do you mean the optic mount? It would get in the way of the top cover. It holds zero after being removed and reassembled and I make sure my rifles are taken to the range every change of season
@BuffordEvans I would start with your budget and work from there. I believe Zentico makes one, and they would be the king of the mountain. Everyone has an opinion on the different ones.
@Bobby B I swear I found it on Ebay or some strange place like that. I would seriously go with the Texas Weapon Systems Dog Leg rail. It's the one that replaces your dust cover, if you don't mind that type. Really, it all goes with what your budget it. 😃👍🇺🇲
It’s a variation of the UTG pro. I have the same tantal rifle and that rail didn’t hold a zero very well at all tbh. I ended up swapping it out for the Midwest industries gas tube rail and TWS dog leg rail that he mentions in the video and they are both much more reliable. The gas tube being much more solid imo but you can only really put a non magnifying optic on there due to eye relief and it offsets the weight up front a bit. If you have a tantal just know that side rails aren’t an option due to the selector switch. You can mod it out but at the end of the day try the gas tube rail or dog leg by TWI first
I also have a tantal and I consider it an AK with extras haha What did you do about your barrel though? Mine keyholes out past 100y and pretty sure I got that crappy oversized barrel CAI put on them in the 90s. I’ve done a lot of AK tinkering but haven’t done a barrel swap yet how tough is it to do if I buy a tantal specific chrome lined barrel off AKbuilder?
@Jon A I had my Tantal checked out by a gunsmith I trust, and we also called in the serial number to CAI to see if there were any barrel mismatch with the 5.56 barrel. I recently sold the Tantal to a friend who was really interested in the 5.45x39. Seems like Tantals have really gone up in price!
@Jon A if you intend on doing a barrel swap, PLEASE take it to a gun Smith who works on AK pattern rifles. It really isn't that difficult once you have studied under a gunsmith for awhile, HOWEVER the headspacing needs to be correct, barrel pinned into place, etc. and you definitely need the right tools for it.
@@praktikalnurse504 So from what I’ve seen the most technically difficult part is the headspace whilst the most difficult part generally is popping barrel A out and barrel B in without a specialty press. I don’t have the press and frankly don’t think it’s worth buying since this will be a one and done situation. How much was the gunsmith if I may ask? I found a perfect barrel hammer forged, chrome lined, for the tantal for 180$ which is not bad but I’ve done a lot of basic gunsmithing myself (drill press, 80% builds, etc) so I wonder if the barrel swap is worth the headache. I put a 5.45 bullet end first in the tip of my current barrel and it just barely misses contact with the neck by about a mm. I mean you can barely see the gap but it does stop before the case… I wonder if the key holing is the barrel or maybe something else is compounding the problem?
@ChristianRodriguez-ux3kh never ran mine suppressed, but I have a few shooting buddies that do. I can ask them if they want to do a collaboration video, and they can explain what they use.
@raulcal5150 It's a Primary Arms 2.5X for the 5.45 or 5.56. If you need some magnification, I am currently using the Primary Arms 3X Microprism. Eventually, I will change all my optics to them for my AKs and ARs.
@Bob-bb3ur usually an SKS doesn't come equipped with a side mount rail. I have seen a few after-market mods, though. One SKS I would like to have is the M version, which takes AK mags

@The Unqualified Gamer Paired with a good optic, and it works for you, yes. One thing I really emphasize is, your firearm is yours, and use what works best for you. As long as the ultimak sits solid and doesn't move, and you can see that red dot clear on your target, it's GTG.
What I don't like RSRegulate...you're paying still $250-300 ALONE on the mounting option...it's not a real cost benefit...TWS seems like the best for price. it's all user preference
Common phrase when it comes to investing in things, especially guns, “buy once cry once”. And like you said it’s user preference anyway. I went with RS Regulate on my side rail with a GLx 2x Prism optic from Primary Arms. Which isn’t the most expensive optic by any means either. But I like that even if there isn’t batteries, there’s still an etched reticle. Then again there’s also people who are saying I’m investing my money into the wrong rifle. SOME will say I’m technically not even shooting an AK 😂 it is what it is.
UTG PRO... less than $100 and still going strong after all these years. Ain't no way I'm spending $250-$300 on an optics mount. Midwest Industries' railed gas tube is also another great option. I got one on my WASR-10. Only cost me $93, but that's because I got it on a Black Friday sale.
@@praktikalnurse504 Thank you! Currently in the Process of "ruining the value" of the Mak90 i just got to make it my own. i guess its a good thing i dont sell my firearms 🙂😂
@Elijah47 short answer, no. Each country that made AKs made them a little different, to the point you can not swap out a BCG from one country of origin to a different one, without headspacing the rifle. Accessories are a little different, where you may need to do a little fit and finish work. Hope this helps.

Anyone have any tips on how to get a side rail to line up centered over the barrel? There's no way to adjust it once it's locked into place. The only way I could see making any adjustment would be to try to bend the actual mount itself to get it positioned properly, and that will be hard to do without some heavy tools and potential damage to the mount. I'm kind of surprised no one makes an adjustable mount for this purpose.
@@praktikalnurse504 Thanks for the quick reply! Looking at pictures of them, I do not believe so. That seems to be confirmed by comments of others who also own them. @00xanawolf00 My next purchase of the TWS dogleg will be for the MAK-90. The receiver is a bit wider, so I am also curious if it will fit. I am currently using a side rail from AK Master Mount that I had to use red thread locker on to get it to stay on the receiver.
@@praktikalnurse504 thank you! I’m subscribed so please keep us updated on your Norinco upgrades.

Just checked my side rail mount and never realized it was sitting to the left on my wasr. No wonder I had such a hard time getting it sighted in

@jonathannewman99. I have no experience with that one buy would be welcome to them sending me one for a review. If you have any pull in that, Fall is a great time of the year for one out here. All my AKs are Com-bloc AKs, but I would always keep an open mind to trying one that was built here in the USA. 😃👍🦬🦅🪶
4:07 first thing first ur are an amazing teacher n i got a question bout the rail, so lets say something is okay with it and they zero it at 100 yd does that mean at 200 it will be the same reaction
On average, the 7.62x39 bullet will drop about 10 inches at 200 yards. I will discuss this further in an upcoming video, explaining why I zero my homestead defense firearms the way I do
I want to get an ak 74 and deck it out
side mount is probably gonna hold zero better but I like the looks of the tws dog leg. from what I hear the tws dog leg holds zero pretty well anyway
Very informative and amazing collection
Hello sir, I'm bothered with the centering of a midwest gen2 mount... I'm at the maximum of the setting and I don't know how to center it :-(
@rogueinstructor49 they won't adjust much. I had to take a metal lathe and remove a little bit at a time to get it just right
Where did you get that feathers 🪶 from that’s nice ❤❤❤❤
They came from the birds of my farm. Peacock, hawk, etc
Do you prefer the side rail mount or the dog leg ? If you had to pick ?
@JohnDoe-nh1ll personally, I prefer the TWS Dog Leg. A good side rail mount costs about the same as the TWS Dog Leg rail, and I have had no issues with it holding zero, they have no movementor wobble. My next AK I plan on making switch to is my Chinese MAK-90. I do take my rifles out at the change of the seasons to make sure they are accurate enough (from any distance, a target the size of my fist)
Great video, thank you. Also, what light do you have mounted there?

I also use Stream Light because they are good budget lights
Thank you
Just purchased a side rail for a SAR-1.
Can you field strip it without removing the side mount? If not, does the side mount hold zero if removed?
@klg200 do you mean the optic mount? It would get in the way of the top cover.
It holds zero after being removed and reassembled and I make sure my rifles are taken to the range every change of season
What brand hanguard on the tactical one?
@andrewgates8158 FAB Defense handguard
What dust cover type works for a FEG Sa 2000 without covering up the rear sight ?
@BuffordEvans I would start with your budget and work from there. I believe Zentico makes one, and they would be the king of the mountain. Everyone has an opinion on the different ones.
What type of palmswell lower hand guard is that on the Bulgarian AK?

Is that the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on the TWS rail knockoff? Do you like it? I have the Bushnell TRS-25 in my Amazon cart now. :)
My TRS25 fell apart internally after about a 100 rounds on an AK mini Draco. I stick with Holosun, Primary Arms or SIG Romeo5
Does the side rail that attaches to the AK come with the mount. My AK47 doesn't have a side rail.
Great vid. Do you know if any of them will work on the Hellpup?
@Omar Robbins I will try to get that information for you.
You do have a point and I agree with you. Great VDO.
I liked that rail at 7:07! Where did you get it?
You can mod it out but at the end of the day try the gas tube rail or dog leg by TWI first
Can you add the link to get them thanks
@Romeo which item would you like the link to? 😃👍🦬🦅🪶

Just shoot the Ak slightly slanted like a side mounted optic? Idk I don’t like it either
Any good folding stocks for a Mac 90 with a slant cut receiver ?
@angeloc3842 side folder or underfolder?
I bought the mid west industries for my bft 47, very sad when I saw it not centered over the bore. Does the dust cover rail hold zero?
@John Hall I have not had any issues with it so far.
What about Texas Weapon Systems BDM Bitty Dot AK Sight Mount

@ awesome yea I’d appreciate it!
What optic do you have on the Midwest Industries mount?
@raulcal5150 It's a Primary Arms 2.5X for the 5.45 or 5.56. If you need some magnification, I am currently using the Primary Arms 3X Microprism. Eventually, I will change all my optics to them for my AKs and ARs.

you recommend the ultimak gastube?

@Flea Tactical I believe RS Regulate and Midwest Industries does.
@@praktikalnurse504 Thanks for the quick reply!
Looking at pictures of them, I do not believe so. That seems to be confirmed by comments of others who also own them. Admittedly I've examined the MI model more closely than the RS Regulate, so I'll take another look at it.
The Zastava M70 mount for Yugo pattern rails certainly does not any adjustment means other than the tension on the lockdown (as the others do as well of course).
The RS Regulate paired lower part with the RS Regulate AKR part lets you move it left and right, front and back.
