Great job hiking and posting. I really enjoy everyone's vlogs. Roadrunner and Chaps are fun to watch, but Hammer vids are longer documentaries that make me "feel" like I'm on trail. Also, it allows me to see everyone else in your trail family. Keep on.
Switch it up with some chicken packets or Spam packets. Those Knorr Noodle meals are great, but they do need hot water. Instant mac and cheese, even do one of your Ramens to mix it up. Pre-cooked bacon and tortillas with cheese and stuff. Summer sausage (heavy, but calorie dense), peperoni and cream cheese on a wrap or tortilla. Cold soak couscous with dried veggies. Put it in a Talenti plastic jar and let it bounce all morning until lunch (shout out to Darwin!). Babybel cheeses with . . . whatever! Get a tube of tomato paste to schmear on a wrap with peperoni and cheese=instant pizza wrap! Peanut butter packets with restaurant jelly packs on a wrap. Just some ideas to mix it up. Right after a resupply/town stop, spinach will last a couple of days if it's not crazy hot. I'd try to use some "fresh" stuff the first couple of days to keep the town "high" going. String cheese, hummus, veggies (green peppers will hold for a few, baby carrots even longer). Then sadly back to the old standards, making that hiker hunger flare right before your next town stop : ) Weight is always going to be a concern , so you can sort of mix it up from town to town and find a good balance. Oh! And the smashed croissants idea is brilliant! Cream cheese and spam with a little mustard packet? Boom. I'm totally stealing that one.
You make that patch job look easy. I had a Thermorest once that I could not find the leak, thought maybe it was through the valve ???? Enjoying you guys. In these mountain towns, I’m up north near Yosemite, we call it shoulder season. The Spring/Fall between tourist seasons. Us locals love shoulder season. Lunch? I’m trying Hawaiian rolls and English muffins this summer. Sick of tortillas. I know it’s a pain to purchase on trail, but I get some of the “just add a little cold water” dehydrated meals, cheese, meat, etc., from backpacker gourmet to change things up.
Meal suggestion.. brand name is Hereford rip and ready. A few different options in a pouch like the tuna packs ready to eat.. beef taco filling(if you’re carrying tortillas)meatballs in sauce and a few others. I found them at Walmart in same isle as tuna and chicken pouches.
Thanks for the update. Glad you found your pads leak. I got tired of tortillas on my AT thru. Croissants actually travel well and taste is buttery goodness ! I would squash them flat and use two for a Spam and cheese sandwich. Add deli packets of mayo, mustard relish. Adds up to over 600 calories. Sliced block cheese or Laughing Cow for cheese is what I used. Could also use salami or pepperoni. Hike on !
Dude I love you. You inspire me! Don’t get down get up. I’m watching every video. I’m 60 years old and I retire in five years and I’m going to hike the PCT and the Appalachian Trail because of you and frozen my two favorites. Let me know how I can help you with a meal or something. I’m not that good with computers but if you tell me what I can do, I can help you right now.
