Oh boy, your call in was one of my favourites. Kinda cool to know it was you now. If I had a time machine, my first act would be to go back and save Jouglat.
Good golly holly, Wham city just doesn't disappoint, and neither do you might I add! Granted sometimes your vocabulary goes over my head, but hey dusting off the dictionary is always nice. Your videos make me think and reflect, so keep up the good work.
I didn't know how much things like this pleased me until you and Night Mind walked me through This House has People in It, Petscop, etc. Thank you for the work and effort :)
Just saying, I subscribed from the petscop series and I really loved that little "footnote" thing you did. I was hoping you'd do it every series since it's super interesting and gives more insightful details, also it was pretty unique!
Thought this was Night Mind. Don't get me wrong, I love Nick, but I got so happy when your name showed up instead. Also, Cry of Mann is best interactive series of 2017, fight me.
I love this name Interactive Series. Been wondering what the hell to call the ones that weren't ARG in the general sense but also required a magnifying glass.
I just want to thank you again for putting so much work and thought into these videos and enhancing the viewing experience of Wham City (and others!) projects like this. Keep it up!
i choked when i saw this was finally uploaded because i've been waiting for and expecting analyses from both you and night mind since the series ended. absolutely well done in this first part. i've been working on my own interpretation of this thing and you've put to words a lot of the ideas that i've had. i look forward to part two!
12:40 what i am saying is its strange enough while youre watching it air and youre high or whatever but if you look at their previous work and its implications you might (not just you.. Anyone) call in and try to play their game. Some did, but frankly i wouldn't be surprised if they considered the caller interaction a failure overall because A) people just wanted to be noticed and B) people tried too hard. Just my opinion.
NMMC: You are so humble, thoughtful, intelligent, pragmatic, and creative. Classically speaking, it is clear that you have a liberal education (remember, classic, not political). Whether it was something you came to on your own or through academic endeavor, I commend you for your success in critical analysis. I'm a big fan of yours, and wish you the best in life.
I had no idea this existed until two weeks after it ended, so I spent these past few days marathoning the archived streams and sifting for data, without having access to the chat. I tend to agree with you that the viewer participation ultimately didn't affect the plot, and that this lack of impact is part of the point of the exercise. One detail that stuck out to me and that I haven't seen discussed elsewhere, is the coffee table books on the Tanking Mann set. The books are always facing the couch, but the hosts and guests always ignore them. In the first episode, the books are stacked in the middle of the table, and Becca takes a deck of cards off the top of the stack to reveal the title of the first book: The Book of Symbols. In the following episodes, the books are spread out across the table so that we can see all of their covers: Atlas Obscura, Ichthyo, Reef, and a large green paperback whose title is always partially obscured by distance, other books, or coffee cans, though it appears to include the word "Rises." I think the books about the ocean might have been put there to foreshadow Frank's background. I also wonder if Tank Mann is referencing the full title of the green book when he says that the sun always rises. However, I am convinced that, by putting all these reference books within view of the audience and never having anyone interact with them, the creators are asking us to think about what gets lost in rapid critical analysis of artistic works. Granted, when I first started watching, I somehow thought that the characters would correlate one-to-one with those from a decades-old children's show that also happened to involve model trains, so any and all of my theories could be completely off-base.
Apparently, judging by the comments, you didnt mention the importance of orange in the work. Anything orange except for maybe a highlighter on a desk is paranormal. the ghostlady, the character that dies changes to orange clothes.
holy shit, i didn't realise the hidden lore behind tanking mann, i thought wham city was being serious in their first twitter thread. but maybe that was the intention, given the whole theme of miscommunication
This is just what i think, but I feel like orange represents death, or rather things that are incomprehensible. The ghost lady, and certain objects and other things that were orange seemed to be things that sort of tied the meta narrative to the narrative of the show... like all the phones.
tbh i just hope next time this kinda show happens we get someone saying the classic "Ey Niko, wanna go bowling?" Or better yet someone doing the voice and calling for Niko but doing something really weird like saying he's being mugged by the midget mafia.
I watched the entire show minus the "Tanking Mann" after-shows, and I found it to be a 'piece of art' that can lead to many interpretations. It's a bit like a metamodern dedication to dadaism at (my) first glance. ^^ Also, isn't it weird how in the credits (camera) at the end of the show the _J_ in Jan Cone is filled with orange? Only that name, every time.
My own flawed interpretation filtered through the distorted logic of my personal neuroses connected the final episode and the vapid answers given by tank to callers to the shallow, illusory "fandom" that both the show and its viewers perpetuated. Having fans interrupt the script by calling in and putting up their fan art on the set is a reliable way to cheapen the experience. I felt that some plot points were missing in favor of appealing to a "agent Martinez and berry otp" mindset and couldn't help but feel we were somehow responsible. Either as an audience, or as a species, for being afraid of substance, and clinging to the surface level answers we want to hear.
Is it just me or is there a tension between the characters of Courtney and Frank? Its this weird romantic tension that I can't quite explain 100%. Maybe i'm missing some clues bc to be honest I came into this series at part three and haven't watched the other parts i missed. Again, maybe i'm just missing something.
I feel like an asshole for getting annoyed when something doesn't have a Wikipedia article but I've been trying to get more info on this and its... something
YOU WERE MONOLOGUE GUY? Holy shit, you're royalty!
Well, lesser royalty.
Like below the Lemon Muffin person and Kate.
I'm comfortable at that position in the hierarchy.
P.S. Great Video.
Sweet profile picture
The call where the guy pretended to be his own mother was the best
the spungolator HOW DARE YOU CALL MY SON A PANDA!
Agreed, that was breathtaking.
I was wondering if any of my calls would end up in people’s analysis of the show!
it would have been hilarious if he actually got his mother for that call
"I don't have to answer to you!"
Pretty damn on the ball and funny response to this show.
Oh boy, your call in was one of my favourites. Kinda cool to know it was you now.

Congrats on making it through, btw. I gave up somewhere around the third episode, lol.
LunarShimmer ok square up let's go I'm just fucking with you I'm a drummer my body is noodles outside of that
Yey. I told him to change his name coz too similar to NightMind
I love this name Interactive Series. Been wondering what the hell to call the ones that weren't ARG in the general sense but also required a magnifying glass.
is it me or is nightmind now more of a look at this stuff now look at this, and n longer does that many explanation videos
I just want to thank you again for putting so much work and thought into these videos and enhancing the viewing experience of Wham City (and others!) projects like this. Keep it up!
Can I just say: holy shit are the actors at Wham god-tier
You can say that, and yes they are. 🙂
Omfg you got on! That’s so awesome! I’ve watched people talk about this before, but I kinda love yours best.
I just love that you also added the bit with Rebal Taxi.
i choked when i saw this was finally uploaded because i've been waiting for and expecting analyses from both you and night mind since the series ended. absolutely well done in this first part. i've been working on my own interpretation of this thing and you've put to words a lot of the ideas that i've had. i look forward to part two!

12:12 the pattern on the wall is the same as the rug from The Shining :o
Goodness me. Wham City has done it again.

Fantastic. I always enjoy your videos. I look forward to the next installment.

They should do this every year, make it an annual event
Ive only just stsrted the video and i really hope you mention the time pan pizza got on and probably almost cried
I actually clasped my hands over my mouth???? I"M SO EXCITED!!!
Apparently, judging by the comments, you didnt mention the importance of orange in the work. Anything orange except for maybe a highlighter on a desk is paranormal. the ghostlady, the character that dies changes to orange clothes.
Why does this feel like Whamm City does Arrested Development, with a fair amount of Twin Peaks mixed in? Until suddenly it becomes American Chopper.
I wish id caught this Id call in just to tell the ghost lady that she was really nice
Oh shit! The Ghost Lady is Thu Tran from the IFC show "Food Party." I wondered what happened to her after that show.
holy shit, i didn't realise the hidden lore behind tanking mann, i thought wham city was being serious in their first twitter thread. but maybe that was the intention, given the whole theme of miscommunication
CALLERS UNITE
I really enjoyed this. This show has been buzzing around my head all month. Looking forward to the next stop down the line!
+Joebotnik Thanks, it'll be out soon. Toot toot!
Call of Warr is coming!!!
Love your vids! Creepy but so interesting.
Another amazing video, you dingus
EDIT: What do you think (if any) is the importance of the color orange?
DGAntonio I was thinking the same thing
This is just what i think, but I feel like orange represents death, or rather things that are incomprehensible. The ghost lady, and certain objects and other things that were orange seemed to be things that sort of tied the meta narrative to the narrative of the show... like all the phones.
But is it a creative color?
I got into the show! I was the George Washington booty call, lol
tbh i just hope next time this kinda show happens we get someone saying the classic "Ey Niko, wanna go bowling?" Or better yet someone doing the voice and calling for Niko but doing something really weird like saying he's being mugged by the midget mafia.
FUCK YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!
can't wait for part 2.
My lemon muffins are so ready for this

What actors plays Tank Mann?
Orange seems to be death. No matter what, that's how it seems to be suppose to be interpreted.
oh boy oh boy
Holiday spectacular, they said. 8 episodes, they said. Also, like another commenter (s), you were that monologue man?
its because they are dead or dreaming. one of them are dreaming, one of them are dead.
The Cry of Joy seems more fitting for this video
ghost lady best girl
12:10 oh pan pizza....
