A Big Time Vinyl Buying Disappointment - Mobile Fidelity & UHQR Pick Ups!

- Опубликовано: 6 мар 2023
- In this video, I show and discuss records that I picked up on my trip to California. I found some pure gold and unfortunately one record was a major bust. I also show and discuss some amazing audiophile records that I have recently purchased. These records are from bands/artists such as Bob Marley, Miles Davis, The Who, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, Kiss, Vince Guaraldi and more.

I was at my local record store looking at Pink Floyd Dark Side Of the Moon Original master recording. Owner walked up and told me side 2 had some bad clicks and pops, but side 1 was perfect. Told me they would play it if I wanted. They played side 2 and I heard 2 super light clicks, but was blown away by the sound quality. I really appreciate my local stores.
That was very nice. Most store owners are great. Thank you and take care.
Melinda, your enthusiasm is infectious. After watching one of your videos, I feel good for the rest of the day. You're also the reason I bought a turntable last year, dug out the records I accumulated when I was actively collecting in the late 60's through 80's and started to relive my youth. I still remember the feeling when I found an elusive LP at a flea market or at one of the used record shops. I use to haunt Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA for records back in the day. The students would always sell their collections when they graduated and moved out of the dorms, or needed money for a big weekend, lol. But enjoy the channel and content very much. It's fun watching how much fun you're having finding that special record. No secret why Mobile Fidelity asked you to the facility. You're the perfect representative of the current collecting community. Give your husband a pat on the head for editing, great job there also.
You're very sweet and it's so rewarding to hear from someone like you. I can only imagine the gems you bought back in the day. It's great that they are being played once again. That's just terrific. Thank you for the encouraging words. Have a great night!
I’m truly happy for you to have struck “Gold” while in California. I know the feeling when you find a record that you’ve wanted for a long time. Been there, done that! With all the chaos going on in your home/life, thank you for finding the time to present this video! 👏❤️🍻
Thank you! Things are crazy right now but I do love making videos. I appreciate the kind words. Take care!
Nice finds! Glad to hear you talking up The Kinks. I love that band and they still don’t get the respect they deserve. Congratulations on finding the Kiss debut, original pressing. Wow! That is fantastic! Well the Bob Dylan still seems like a good find. I agree 100% about finding records in the wild being more exciting than on Discogs. Your shirt is cool. Only you could get away with your California Gold pun😁. Great video and glad you had a nice trip. Take care
Haha! The California gold pun was kinda corny but oh well.😃 This Kinks album is very good. This was definitely a good time creatively for them. I'm glad to finally have a clean copy of Arthur. Thank you and take care!
Congratulations on the finds, especially the KISS album! I got the UHQR Exodus. But I haven’t opened it yet. My dad spent the last couple months in Florida looking for Bob Marley albums with no luck. I’ll give the album to him. I love that album, but I think this will be a great experience for my dad. Plus with his new speakers and amplifier it will be really special! I’ll just have to drive up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and check it out this Spring or Summer.
That's very sweet of you. Your dad will definitely dig it.♥️
Great video Melinda. Thanks for sharing everything. I can't wait for the upcoming MoFi video
I will make the MoFi video as soon as I can. Thank you so much! 😃
Once again a nice variety of music, I have had the Dylan (Highway 61) for years, always a favorite. Continued success with your music and videos.
You can't beat this era of Dylan. Thank you so much! ♥️
Hello Melinda, so glad you finally found a better Kiss album, I have a few albums where I need to find a better copy of them, so I know the feeling when you finally find it! Great video content as always.
It was an exciting moment. 😃 Thank you and take care.
Great video Melinda. It's so rare to find that KISS album once... but twice? Nice work! A real bummer on the Bob Dylan. I didn't even know about that six second intro. Looking forward to your MOFI video. Rock on!
Thank you Brian. I'm not sure that the first copy of Kiss counts. It was in horrible condition. Lol. This copy plays beautifully. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, great Kiss pickup , looking forward to your MoFi video!
P.S. nice job on this video with a snoring dog! 🤣
Haha! I appreciate your patience. Lucy doesn't like leaving my sight and she always snores when she's asleep. 😃 Have a great weekend.
Great finds Melinda.
I think you did great finding those records.
I hate to say this I never saw a copy of that who record. See I learned something new! Thanks...🙂❤
Thank you! I appreciate it. ♥️
Great stuff. Loved Village Green but never much cared for Arthur. Your praise makes me think it's time to give it another go. Keep up the good work !!
I really enjoy it. ♥️ Let me know if you change your mind. Thank you and take care.
Hello there across the pond. I really like your videos. Its so nice to see someone really enjoying the collection of wonderful music. I was a very lucky child. My mother worked in the industry helping me fall in love with sound and music at a very early age. By the age of six my favourite album was Paul Simons 1st solo album. Such a beautiful Lp, Pauls face surrounded by fur on the cover. I still remember as my mother Lay the record gently on the thick shinny platter of her Rank turntable and swung the industrially crafted arm laying the needle into the groove. To this day Mother and child reunion replays in my mind, shedding tears as I listen to it. It always brings my mother back to me. The way you talk about music reminds me of her passion for music and audio. It is so wonderful to have grown up with my mothers amazing collection and contributed to it making it what it is today. My eight year old boys have just fallen in love with an original 1st print of Roxy Music's Avalon that I found the other day sealed new in a charity store. We have a later print on CD but as we played the record our ears experienced sonic splendour. The 1st print on vinyl was mesmerising. We find it so hard not to play it daily it is just that wonderful to listen too. Keep up the great videos and all the best.
I loved reading your beautiful comments. Mother and Child Reunion was a record that my sister and I play often. I enjoy the music of my childhood and love to feel my mom through music. It sounds like you feel the same way. ♥️ Those album covers can carry as many memories as the music. Thanks again. Have a great night!
Such great finds. The thrill of the hunt makes it all worthwhile. Love the video.
Thank you so much! ♥️
Great video! When a record store owner dogs me I won’t a buy a thing from them. Some stores allow you to listen to a record before a purchase and it’s those stores I will always buy something.
I can’t WAIT to hear about your Mobility Fidelity trip!!
You looked very beautiful today! Have a great week! ❤️🤗Deb
Thank you so much! I will share about the MoFi trip as soon as I can. Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy ❤️
Great finds!! Hope you had a great time searching out there!
We had so much fun. Thank you and have a great weekend.
Nice Kinks records. And that is an enjoyable deep rabbit hole to delve into. Arthur is my current favorite these past few months.
It's a very good album. ♥️ I love that era of The Kinks. Thank you and enjoy your Saturday!
Love the shirt...that is such a cool album cover. Nice score on the KISS debut. I found my first press of that in the wild as well. That is the best sounding copy of that LP. Too bad about the Dylan record but still nice to have a "close to" original of that. I would like to pick up a few more Miles Davis Mo-Fi's myself. Great video and take care!
The MoFi's are great. I was shocked that they came back in stock. I agree, this Kiss album sounds the best and I have several of them to compare. Lol. I love the shirt too. It's one of the best album covers ever. Thank you and take care.
It's wonderful that's your husband supports you with your audiophile journey keep up the good work It's very enjoyable and encouraging especially for beginners.
Thank you so much! ♥️
Fantastic video! Cool shirt too. I'll say that the first Kiss album looks a lot like the one I had when I was very very young. It may be tattered but the memories are still intact.
Kids loved their Kiss records. ♥️ Kiss brings back some amazing memories. Thank you and take care.
Some great finds there Melinda.
I luckily found the KISS ST without Kissing Time a few years ago at a record show in really great shape for cheap. While I was in Chicago in October I found a white label promo copy without the cover. I couldn’t resist. So now I have a great standard copy and a okay copy of a white label promo so I am all set myself on that one.
Another great video.
The white label promos are amazing. I would probably have to frame that if I were you. Very cool! 🔥 Thank you and take care.
I always love winding down and going record shopping. Sometimes I have a good day and sometimes just a light exercise day. It always puts a smile on my face and a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart. Glad you had a chance to do some shopping while you were there. 😂
You have been on a roll lately. Record shopping is fun either way. Thank you Mike! ♥️
Nice pick ups, cool to see that you can show a half beaten Kiss album and I totally understand that you wanted it. Cheers
Haha! I'm glad you get it. When you know, you know. ♥️😉 Enjoy your weekend.
I'm glad that your husband will be part of your upcoming video because I'm looking forward to hearing his thoughts about the record pressing process.
Thank you. There's a lot going on right now but we will put out our video as soon as possible. Take care.
Another great video, sounds like you had a great trip. Also I am glad Peter kept experimenting with the Cat look, his make up on the first album always seemed a bit weird to me, thanks for sharing, Peace!
Haha! The cat makeup is really crazy on that album cover. He definitely found his look after that though. Thank you and take care.
WOW...amazing timing. Crazy week so I didn't get to your video until just now, but last night I was telling my girlfriend about how much I love the Vince Guaraldi Black Orpheus album and because of that, took out my MoFi copy for a spin! Melinda, get out of my mind! 😆
Great minds think alike!😃 I didn't know MoFi did a reissue. Very cool. Thank you and have a great weekend!
I've watched at least a dozen of your videos recently (as well as many others by other album-collecting RUclipsrs) and something's been driving me crazy, and I finally figured it out tonight. While watching I discern a low-audible hum, rhythmic, pulsating....I grab my phone to see if it's ringing in the off mode (negative), and I check my computer speakers to see if there's something wonky going on...nothing,, finally in this episode you dropped the clue that answered the puzzle....it's been your doggy snoring!! 🤣🤣
Oh no! I'm so sorry. I try to make videos without her in the room but sometimes she just wants to be with me. Mystery solved. 😃 Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy No worries I love dogs! no need to reply thank you!
Hi Melinda. I never knew about all that Bob Dylan highway 61 revisited information. I have an original. So I pulled it out today, to check. I played From a Buick 6 and it does have the harmonic intro. I was so thrilled. It's near mint, just needs a good cleaning. So I just wanted to thank you for that information.
Congrats!!! You have something amazingly special!!! 😍
A lot of people just don't understand 'the thrill of the hunt ' like we do. Great job 👍
That's a huge part of the fun. 😃 Thank you and take care.
I’ve been eying that mofi Miles Davis record, and I had no idea it was out of print for so long before this, since I’m still new to collecting. So I’ll have to get on that asap and pull the trigger. Also, cool vid as always!
Buy it before it goes out of print again. It sometimes takes years for a record to get a repress. It's definitely worth it. Thank you and take care.
Awesome stuff Melinda. As always.
Thank you so much 🤗
Just awesome. Cheers from germany. Always nice to Watch your Video. Big Fan…:-)
Thank you so much! ♥️ Take care.
I got the small batch Black Orpheus as well. I did have to hit it with my zerostat gun, but now it plays flawlessly. A lot of people said that this was an unnecessary version because there are so many cheaper copies out there, but I found this to have a unique and beautiful soundstage. I couldn't be happier with it!
I agree. It sounds gorgeous. When I saw this record in the past, it was too beat up to buy. This is a great copy. Thank you and take care.
Hey Melinda great records on display. I kind of had a giggle when you explained step by step about the 'criteria' for the Dylan LP. I'm sorry it didn't have the harmonica part. 😪 But that whole sequence reminded me of the 9 or 10 'rules' to determine if you have a genuine, original Vee Jay "Introducing The Beatles" LP. 😉 (yes I do have one 😊). I had to double check if I had a first press Kiss debut (I don't). I got my US copy a couple of years after original release. Sounds like you had an amazing trip to MFSL and I'm looking forward to that video.
Take care Melinda. Love your work as always 😊💕
Haha! It is pretty funny that I showed everything to look for but still didn't have the correct Dylan record. 😄 Hilarious!!! Thank you and take care.
Great, honest reviews! Since you talked about The Kinks - there was a reissue campaign circa 2015-16 where the first 10 or so records were cut by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, and they sound incredible! There was the great mono boxset (which I have), but I think all of the albums were released individually too (the latter ones, like Preservation available in mono or stereo) and they were about $18 new. So you can probably still find these great records very cheap.
That box set is very cool. I would love for it to get a repress. I'm sure the reissues sound great. Thank you and take care.
Sorry the Dylan didn't work out, Melinda - that stinks, but keep hunting, you'll find it! As for that Nashville record store owner...I would have stared right back at him and said "what're YOU looking at, bub?" LOL! Can't wait for your MoFi trip report! Cheers! - TC
Don't take any guff from the "Jack Black" types! LOL
Haha! I just didn't have the nerve but I wish I had said that.😃 Thank you for the encouragement. Take care.
Hey…Cool R&ROVR shirt! That cover is on my, record playing, coffee cup….(Yep, I’m a big dork and have to say…“Rock and Roll”…before I use it).
“Kissing Time’’…I learn something new every video. Amazing…☕️
Haha! I love that album cover. Incredible artwork. Thank you and take care!
Haha the dog snoring cracks me up. That's how it sounds over here oftentimes with my two best friends when either of them goes to sleep. I am talking about my two dogs of course 😅 Both of them at various times will roll over on their backs with their legs up in the air and start sawing logs. It's funny.
Looks like you got some good, patiently waited on finds. I like seeing when people get something they've been patiently looking for and waiting on. I truly believe that if you keep looking and don't settle for something that doesn't meet the criteria or match exactly, you will find it at the right price eventually. But that is a bummer thinking you got what you were looking for only to find out it wasn't exactly the right version or copy. But you'll get it eventually.
Thanks for showing the new vinyl finds...
Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Hi Brian. I do enjoy the hunt. Buying one of those variations online doesn't appeal to me but finding them through a dig is very rewarding.
It's funny that you said that about your dogs. I tell Lucy that she's my best friend all of the time. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
It has been 23 years since I sold off my 2000+ disc vinyl collection (in the nick of time to MISS the vinyl revival) so discs that sell for more than $100 now I sold for $3. (I did the same with my Marvel comics collection 20 years prior to that!). But watching your channel brings back a LOT of memories for me when I was in the hunt. All my vacations included visiting record stores throughout the country. You have a very pleasant personality and I enjoy your channel. Hmm, I wonder if I should hold out selling my 5000 disc CD collection now or wait. Ha, I think if I sell now, that will CAUSE CDs to finally be revived.
Who would have ever thought vinyl would make a big comeback? You did what was right for you at the time. Who knows if CD's will make a comeback. Time will tell.
Thank you so much for the kind compliments. I love that my discussions can bring back some good memories. Hunting for records is a lot of fun. Have a wonderful night!
Hello Melinda, how is it going? You got goood taste! The Who! The Kinks! Kiss! I also have their debut album but a repress. And of The Who I bought a live album recently. Bob Marley! I bought also a record of him some months ago! A very nice box!! Jammin' also on that live album that I have! Have a nice week! greetings from Belgium Jason
Greetings. We like a lot of the same bands.😃♥️ Thank you and take care.
Love the KISS, "Rock and Roll Over" shirt you have on! So Cool 😎 Melinda! That's a great Who album. I really like it..Take care, Allan
Thank you! I love it too. What an incredible album cover. 😍 Take care.
Coolest WHO album - Great video Melinda ❤️
Thank you! I'm so glad to find a good copy. 😍 Have a great weekend!
Love the pickups. Looking forward to the MOFI video.
Thank you! 😃
Awesome video as always!! Did you ask about them doing stadium Arcadium by RHCP while you were there?? But I got a great find this past weekend at my local record store an original Rolling Stones bridges to Babylon!! It’s been sitting there for almost 2 years and I finally got it!! It was still sealed and very hard to find!! It came out in 1997!! If you find a copy buy it!! I opened it can’t wait to put it on!!
That's so cool! Good for you!!! I had the opportunity to aak them a lot of questions and I hope I can answer them as soon as it is possible 😃 Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda!, Ive got all the small batches except this one. Kevin remastered the cheaper version with the extra alternates and I usually like KG's work on jazz some better, especially on piano based jazz. Im still torn as a collector though. Choices, choices, ha!
Good to see you digging into the deadwax and nerdie info with the Bob! 🤓You're becoming quite the slooth! I *think* that what tripped you up is that it should be a 1A/1A. Id have to look at my copy but Im pretty confident that is the info. Not 1C/1C.
Makes me want to take a trip to California and go record buying!
Thanks for the video 👍🏻✌🏻🎸
In the information I saw, it said it could be a 1A,1B, or a 1C but you're the one that has a copy so I think I'll believe you. It's still fun to look. 😃
I know the Craft Recordings Small Batch is expensive but I wanted the uniformity of those pressings and Bernie Grundman did the mastering. I love Bernie. 😍 Thank you and take care.
Bravo, nice finds. For all your damaged album covers you can get replacement covers from Sleeve City - you may know that- in black or white. It makes a nice presentation for broken covers while still maintaining your originals. I also had the same experience that you described with a combative record store owner. Won't be returning to that store again. Have a great day.
Thank you for the suggestion. I haven't been back to that shop since that incident occurred. There are plenty of amazing record stores in Nashville to shop at. Thank you and take care.
Congratulations! I think that Kiss record was a steal! 👏🏼
It was. I'm so grateful. Thank you!
Not too long after that first video of the first pressing of the KISS debut album, I found one for $15 and sold it for much more, it was in nicer condition than the one you found, I now regret it and learned that money comes and goes, but precious treasures like that record do not come by as easily, now on the hunt for another one, congrats on your find!!😎🤘
My album cover isn't perfect but it was a cool find. You made such a good point about money versus hard to find treasures. I hope you find a copy soon. Thank you and take care.
I have the first pressing of KISS that I am proud of. In mint condition. Picked it up back in 1992 when nobody wanted records anymore. Plays just like new!
Sweet!!! You bought it at the right time. 😃
Those are some great finds. I too had been looking for Kiss S/T without Kissing Time and recently found one at a record store in Lawrence, sounds like you got the better deal.
I only recently learned that version of the album even existed... via one of Melinda's videos!
I got lucky on that one but was burned on the Dylan album. 😃 Can't win them all. Thank you and take care.
Great video again Melinda. I wish you the best and thank you for the great video's. Stay safe and take care. Goodbye
Thank you so much!
Another great video , I don't think you need to notify anyone about promotional copies just my opinion if they send you a promotional copy we know your going to be 100 percent honest on how it sounds. Thank you
That's very nice and I appreciate it. 😃 Having your trust means a lot. Thank you and take care.
Loving your shirt!!
Thank you! ♥️
Exodus is a wonderful record. Enjoy your new records, and thank you for sharing this with us.
I just purchased John Denver 50th anniversary Rocky Mountain High on blue vinyl. I am considering traveling to Aspen in the fall for the John Denver tribute festival. I really want to see the sanctuary memorial park and find all the stones with his song lyrics.
@Mark Tait Hi. I haven't been able to find an original Rocky Mountain High at my local record store. I really liked the blue vinyl and the hype sticker with the 50th anniversary.
I am really going to try to make the trip to Colorado.
That sounds awesome! He was an amazing artist. Thank you and take care.
So beautiful 😊 great video!
Thank you very much.😃
I always imagine that Phil is the one doing corrections to commentary, it's pretty funny some times the way he teases if it is. Seems like a really good guy, reminds me a lot of an old friend. I like your record searches, it's how I got most of my collection and I'm always interested in what to look for.
He doesn't make any of the corrections. I do that myself but he does edit them for me. 😃It's hard to talk to a camera for 20 minutes straight and not make some mistakes (at least for me anyway). Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy I like the errors and the corrections, but I do admit part of it was it seemed like a nice thing between you two. How you correct is perfect, please don't take my comment as criticism..
Great reviews. I have both Marleys but with a cost unfortunately. I snoozed I lose. You would also be impressed with Rasta Vibrations. Gueraldi is coming soon with a heavy Degritter cleaning in it’s future. Some people on the forums are saying the same things that you did so I anticipate it.
A small warp but sounds beautiful. You'll enjoy it. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Hi, I liked your explanation about highway 61 Revisited now that I'm starting to love Dylan I will get the box 10 lp fragments I will have it you are wonderful and congratulations on your video
Thank you very much. I have heard great things about that Dylan box set. Enjoy!
Nice Pick-Ups Melinda!! Sounds Like You Had A a great Time!! I'm A Big Fan Of That Period Of Kinks As Well!! Just Added"Face To"Face"From 66.... and "Something Else" From 67!!! Check Those Two Out I Think You'll Love Them!!!! Thanks Again Great Video!!
I will keep those records in mind. Thank you so much! Take care.
Great find with the original pressing of the Kiss debut Melinda. That is a good price. Looking forward to hearing about the VH album you went to hear at MF.
Thank you! The MoFi video may take a while but I will put it out asap. Thank you and take care.
MoFi just released Nefaratti also. I always pick up the MoFi Miles Davis artist. For me he is the only artist I need in MoFi. Bitches Brew is a top 10 album of all time for me. Very note resting discussion on the Dylan album. That was very interesting and kudos to you for all of your research. Your memory is much better than mine. You are 100% right of watching my money. I have almost totally quit buying all these high end recordings, I even quit watching those channels, don’t want to be tempted. I just found I was not getting that excited about them, not like I do finding an OG. Congrats on your Kiss album
The Miles Davis Mofi's are fantastic. I have almost all of them. The Dylan record was a bust but it's still fun to hunt for. Thank you and take care.
Ha! As soon as I saw the KISS debut I knew it was without Kissin Time. I would have bought it too. I doubt I'll ever find one in the UK. Congrats to you!
I hope you do. I didn't think I would find one either. Thank you and take care.
I have been getting way too many records from many different companies that are, what I call "bowled". Concave on one side and convex on the other, eminating from the center point. I never had this problem in all my years of collecting until lately. I have my own theory as to why it happens, but I digress. I have had great success with the Vinyl Flat device and its warming device which is optional. Word of caution: never go higher that the LOW setting on it. I ruined a couple of records that way. Experiment with a few junk records to see how the unit works for you. I just wanted to let you, and everyone else, know that it really works. If you get one, I can give you some first-hand advice on the finer details of how to use it. This is the voice of experience speaking to you all. Love your videos. Thanks Melinda.
The fact that so many people are buying vinyl flats just shows there is a problem. I would definitely practice on junk records first. Best wishes to you. Take care.
Hi: Like your videos very much! A point of clarity the title of the album is pronounced " Black Or-fee-us ". I'm a musician and I've played this song many many times and was made aware of that very early on in my career. Keep up the great videos their most enjoyable!!
I realized the mistake after I made this video. I should have done my homework on that. Thank you for the correction. It's a really beautiful record.♥️
It's rare that people want a record with LESS songs on it but yep 'Kissin' Time' is THAT song lol.Oh the Rock n Roll Over shirt yer wearing is dope!
Haha! Isn't that crazy! I don't hate Kissin'Time. Thank you for the kind compliment. I do love that Kiss artwork. Thank you and take care.
I found an original Village Green in very good condition, unfortunately no cover. So I’m searching for that. Needed Arthur, but my buddy Brian (Shamrockin Records) gifted me a clean 1975 reissue. So that’s 2 off my must have list. Looking forward to your MoFi video
Hopefully you can find a good cover someday. That has happened to me before and a viewer happened to have a great album cover without the record so they sent it to me. (It was Badfinger's Straight Up album) You should show that Kinks records on your channel. You never know. 😃 Thank you and take care.
You're a real Sherlock Holmes Melinda Its a shame on the Harmonica intro on Bob Dylan but still a great score you did well in California. Some very solid MOFI pick ups too well done. And great that you secured a copy of Exodus.
Thank you. Lol. I tried to be Sherlock Holmes but it was a fail. Thank you and take care.
Just about to do a video on my Who vinyl and Sell Out is something I never got round to getting, I keep keeping my eye out but it never seems to appear, well done on the 200gram
I see Sell Out often but rarely in decent shape. I hope you find a beautiful copy soon. Thank you and take care.
I remember when you got that first beater copy of the 1st Kiss LP Melinda. I knew you were going to get a much better one! You had to travel for it, but like you, anytime I go out of town the first thing I check is for local used record stores. 😁
I couldn't believe it. And just like last time, that record was at an antique store. 😍 Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
I thought the first Kiss album you showed was fascinating. I don´t think I have ever seen that before in the UK or here in Spain. I will be on the look out for it now in the wild, hopefully without the extra track. I know some of the classic studio and live albums by Kiss but you have inspired me. I am going to listen to their complete discography, in order, starting with this first album. I will do it accessing digital copies and I then I will look to buy my favourites albums on vinyl, hopefully original copies in great condition.
That's a very cool idea. They sure had some great albums and a few that are not so much. Lol. I hope you enjoy them all. Thank you and take care.
I didnt know that about the first kiss album with kissing time. You learn something new everyday
I agree. It's fun to learn something new. Thank you and take care.
Good Saturday morning, thanks for the broadcast, a lot of work around here, you and Philip are busy as well. Sorry about your bad experience with some snob record store owner. There is nothing we can do with these people but lock them in the broken toy box and throw away the key. My dear friend Hariot used to remind me of this, I miss her greatly. Love the Miles Davis albums and cover work. RUSH is releasing the 40th anniversary special Signals edition. a band that is always great value. You've got Subdivisions which remains such a contemporary song, and New World Man. My faves are at the moment, The Weapon and Losing It. Losing It was a studio work due to the extra musician needed. Ben Mink was the guest electic violinist who blended wonderfully with Alex Lifeson, Alex is such a humble player. The song is about trying to come to grips with losing what one was once able to to. The line, " the bell tolls for thee " is in reference to Hemmingway and the dancer in the song refers to a film with Shirley MacLaine. The intro Neil Peart drumming to the song 🎵 The Weapon is simply astounding. You and Philip take care.
Thanks for mentioning the new special edition of Signals. I really like that album. I appreciate the story you shared. Have a wonderful weekend!
Great pick ups M!!! So glad you got to go out for that! Way to cool!! So glad you finally got that Mofi Bitches Brew! I know that is one you have wanted for a loooong time!
A very long time. I still can't believe it came back in stock.🥰 Thank you and take care.
I been listening to dylan since 85 seen him 14 times and never knew about that harmonic intro, the kinks were one of my favorite bands to see live I miss them, and thanks for turning me onto that black orpheus album I need to get a copy never heard of him or that album.
Vince Guaraldi was an amazing piano player. I love that album.♥️ It's so cool that you saw Dylan that often. Very cool. Thank you and take care.
Oh my gosh! You need Catch a Fire! It's a must own Marley album. One of my favourite albums of all time.
Rastaman Vibrations is also supreme and has a UHQR pressing. I much prefer both to Exodus personally.
Thank you for the suggestions. I will have to give them a listen. Exodus is probably a good "intro to reggae" album. The UHQR is great. Take care.
2:03 - see if you can locate the recent 2 LP edition of "Who Sell Out". Sides 3 & 4 feature some killer rarities and outtakes from the same period... including the Daltry-penned "early morning cold taxi"! An INCREDIBLE song which was not included on the original album but should have been. In fact, until the Who's box set in 1994 the only way to hear that song was on bootlegs! ("Cold taxi" is on RUclips...)
That's what's great about these outtakes and demos that are coming out. We get to hear things that before were only available on bootlegs. 🥰 Thank you and take care..
Linda, I would definitely ask for another pressing of Black Orpheus. When you pay for a high price album you should get what you paid for! I’m like you, I don’t like having to ask for another copy or to make returns. But I did it with Kind Of Blue-UHQR. Linda, it took me 4 copies to get a decent one. The people at AP were great about it. Not sure about the Small Batch customer service? I’m sure they make extra copies and plan on having some not so good pressing’s! Wishing you the best, love your content!
I agree. I deserve a better copy. Thank you for looking out for me. Take care.
Just played “turn your lights…..”. Goosebumps!!!!!! It’s everything I expected. Awesome !!! This is what a UHQR should be. No weak song on this one, but that we already knew
The Marley UHQR is great.🌞♥️ Thank you and take care.
another great video my friend
Thank you Curtis!♥️
Love that Who LP. IMO, "I Can See For Miles" is the band's best song from the best year (1967) in pop music.
The Who was incredible at this time and I also love their 70's output. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
thanks for the tip on the Dylan album, I didn't know that. I'll keep my eyes open for it now. My copy of Bitches Brew is #10892, Sketches of Spain is #7962, I also bought the Milestones MOFI.
The Miles Davis Mofi's are terrific. I have almost all of them now. If you do find the Dylan "harmonica intro" version, please let me know. It would be cool if one of us finds one. Thank you and take care.
I've been on a Del Shannon binge lately. Been enjoying "The Further Adventures Of Charles Westover" and "Total Commitment". Further Adventures original copies are astronomical in price, so that one's a reissue from Trouble In Mind. I think you'd really like both of those records
Thank you for the suggestions. I will have to give Del Shannon a listen. Take care.
Love the vinyl u were showing, I almost pulled the trigger on that Who album as new but kinda pricey so not yet. I heard that Bob Marley LP on UHQR is fantastic. I have been looking for that Miles on MoFi, my friend has it and yes it sounds awesome. Hey just to point out one thing, as a audiophile kinda guy who worked for a decade in audio sales , I noticed your sub in the background is firing straight into a plant stand right in front. Yes subs can be placed almost anywhere in a room and sound ok but you are now having a solid obstruction disturbing the bass wave. You've created "wave cancelation" by having that wave bounce back hitting the next wave etc etc. Move the sub sideways or facing out to the room where nothing is in front. That's it. Take care.
Thank you so much for the suggestion. We are having our house painted and I just put that plant there a couple of days ago. I definitely don't want it to interfere with the sound. 😃 Take care.
Love your Rock n Roll over shirt !
Thank you! 🥰
I also like the hunt for a given piece...sometimes you gotta roll the dice and say what the heck. The Dylan record is a tough find but at least you have the typo jacket now. I have bought records thinking it's gonna be a certain issue and get home, play it and it's not...swapped or something.
As for the Kiss record...I am not a big fan but I have learned that if a piece is really hard to find, having a B grade copy is better then no copy.
Given you were where you were in Ca...and you mentioned Vince's album...I hope you guys took a tour of Charles M. Schulz museum which is basically in their backyard. I've never been there but I hear it's wonderfully done.
I do look forward to the video on MoFi...if theres that much stuff don't be afraid to make it a 2 part video:-)
I'm kicking myself for not going to the Charles M Shultz museum. I saw some Peanuts character figures around town but I didn't look into why. That would have been amazing. We didn't have a lot of time unfortunately. I hope we can go back someday. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda 🌞 - Like the Kinks & Who from the 60's can't beat em ! For fun , give the cover of Victoria by The Fall a listen. I think Sketches Of Spain will always be my favorite Sunday morning 🌄 record. Looking forward to the MF video ! 👋
Thank you David. Sketches of Spain is a wonderful album to put on to start a Sunday morning.🥰🌞 I love those early 60's albums as well. Thank you and take care.
Nice haul from California. Is your “Sell Out” the mono or the stereo? The upside is, both are great mixes. I have a Canadian mono original and a US stereo original, and they’re both aces. I love Classic Records pressings - I have “My Generation” and Hendrix’s “Axis” in mono. Love. Looking forward to the VH mastering video!
My copy of Sell Out is mono. It sounds great. I'm glad I found it. 😃 The video will be a little delayed but I look forward to sharing it with you. Thank you and take care.
Congrats on finding such a great deal on the original KISS album. I've seen several copies of that one here in Las Vegas, but they're all priced at over $300. Being able to find it for under $30 (in California, ironically!) was an incredible find for you!
Oh my! The $300 price tag is very high. It must have been mint. I did get a great deal on it. Thank you and take care.
Kiss is comming to Vancouver in November 2023 you are invited to come to Vancouver Canada lol and another Awesome video Thank You
That would be so much fun. 😃 🔥
I managed to get a copy of Exodus and the Small Batch (which are also One-Steps so don't be too hard on yourself!) version of Black Orpheus. I haven't played it yet, but I also have the Analogue Productions 45-RPM version so I'm looking forward to comparing them. "Cast your fate into the wind" is a wonderful piece of music!
I try not to get the different names for these records mixed up but I blew it in this video. Lol. Black Orpheus is great. Thank you and take care.
Love the pup snoring during Dylan’s Record description. 🤣🙏 That’s gold Jerry!
Oh my! That must have been weird. 😃 She's my little baby and likes being close to me at all times. Thank you and take care.
Congrats on your pick ups and another great video. I'm curious to which stores you visited (Amoeba? Streetlight?). I'm in northern California and intrested in going to those record and anttique stores to check them out.
I will have to check with my husband. The names escape me at the moment. If I remember, I will let you know. Thank you and take care.
You buy so many records, you should consider a good record flattener. Agree 100% regarding Exodus!!
I may have to buy one some day. That says a lot about the quality control of records. ☹️ Thank you and take care.
That Kinks album in the background is a classic!
I agree! It's great! Thank you.
I would definitely return the Craft. First of all, you paid good money for this and also, you can see for your followers what kind of service they offer. Will they look after their faithful buyers? Trust me, this will always bother you and you won't be satisfied with it. Acoustic Sounds offers the best return policy and they stand behind what they sell; will Craft do the same? As always, thanks for the great videos!
I'll definitely be thinking about it. I agree that Acoustic Sounds and MoFi have been very easy to deal with. It would be interesting to see if Craft Recordings is the same. Thank you and take care.
I’m really loving my bitches brew mofi as well! No. 9359. Even after the controversy your fair assessment of their sound quality gave me confidence in purchasing it. Thank you Melinda!
That's wonderful! I'm so glad you're loving it. All of the Mobile Fidelity Miles Davis records sound terrific. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
I still haven't gone into my local record stores after my move - probably a good thing. Where you were shopping in NorCal is good for vinyl, lots of disposable income. Many have been giving up their collections now with high-res streaming - and boomers downsizing. Then there's the hipsters that bought a bunch of vinyl and had no idea what to do with it, and dumped it. As you found out there's a decent selection at good prices, and many albums are in _great_ shape. You just have to be first to see them! Exodus was in my cart, but took a pass on it. I'm not a Marley fan, never liked reggae, and while I could have been a jerk and bought a copy to flip in a year (or 12 hours apparently) I chose not to. Maybe the vinyl gods will look favorably on me later on. Congrats!
I try to be considerate like you when it comes to albums I don't absolutely love. It's better to leave it for someone that truly wants it. I did see some great records but because we were flying, I didn't shop a lot. What an amazing time and beautiful place to be. I loved it there. Thank you and take care.
2 Eye COLUMBIA Is A Vintage Classic Indeed...And The Orange One Eye CBS Label...
For the Kinks "Arthur" LP, the one you want is the Columbia Santa Maria original pressing. The deadwax will have an "S" or backwards "S". A little later pressings were done by Capitol. The vinyl they were using is a bit noisy.
Thank you for the heads up. This Reprise '75 reissue sounds good but if I ever see the one you mentioned, I will check it out. Take care.
Great video!
Thank you!
