    Wendy is so cute and sweet, and her voice on the records is fantastic, she really adds to the whole mix, a vital component of the band.

    Both Paddy and Wendy such nice people, Wendy's quiet voice really lovely . I think in the egotistical music industry these two stand out head and shoulders - yes there are genuine creative people in the music sphere who create beautiful songs and have a talent - like these two, and the rest of this band - love those songs, thanks for the memories of 'back in the day' - my day, the 1980's ! Live in a prefab, grows some sprouts - self-sufficiency, off-grid lifestyle !

    Few people have ever heard of Prefab Sprout here in the US - how thankful I am that I wandered into a small record store when I was in college and heard Two Wheels Good (or Steve McQueen to the rest of the world) playing and decided to pick up a copy of the album!

    She's sweet and raw beautiful in the full meaning of the word.
    I always loved her back vocals on the songs...but the elusive image of her on video clips must have imprinted my brain for the future.
    Crying now don't know why. LOVE

    Another thing, since we're on the topic of Prefab Sprout and Australia (which happens to be my home country in case you haven't noticed), you know Kylie Minogue covered Prefab Sprout's song "If You Don't Love Me" (which was one of two new songs, the other being "The Sound Of Crying", from that band's 1992 A Life Of Surprises compilation) as a B-side to her single "Confide In Me".

    • @hoagy_ytfc

      Even without that great B-side, Confide In Me is her best record, I suggest.

    Ha ha...haven’t seen Donny from Sounds in decades! I used to watch it religiously every Saturday morning as a teenager. Back when British groups were at the forefront of good music. Donny used to always talk about horse racing and betting on the show and I found out many years later this is what led to his demise.😉

    But eventually Prefab Sprout never made it big in Australia like they did in their native UK. In fact, their highest charting single in Australia, "Cars And Girls", only charted as high as No. 41 back in 1988. Also, I assume this was a filmed interview for that British magazine Sounds. But still, I love Prefab Sprout regardless because at least they were smarter than the average 1980s pop group thanks to Paddy's songwriting ingenuity. Another thing is if newer generations of Australians heard the song "Appetite" from Prefab Sprout, it would pretty much remind them of the song "Streets Of Your Town" by The Go-Betweens.

      DW'89Music As far as I know Sounds and Donnie Sutherland was broadcast on Channel 7 here on a Saturday morning but could’ve also been on a Monday night as well. I was just a kid but I’m pretty sure it had nothing to do with the British mag. As for conflicting melodies with the Go Betweens ‘Streets...’ I cannot hear it just now but that’s an interesting observation.

    • @dw89music73
      @dw89music73 6 лет назад +1

      +DW'89Music It's just there was a British weekly music magazine that shared the same name as this show that ran from 1970 to 1991. Here's an example of a cover from 1980 featuring John Lydon (a.k.a. Johnny Rotten) of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd. (PiL) fame: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4c/Sounds_2451980.jpg/220px-Sounds_2451980.jpg

    • @grizcuz
      @grizcuz 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, there was a British weekly music paper called Sounds. I used to either buy it, the NME or Melody Maker every week, depending on who was in either of them I was interested in. Then cheekily read the other 2 in the newsagents. But I think this is an unrelated Australian TV show from the 80's. Can't recall a journalist called Donnie in Sounds in that period. Plus there's a Fall/Mark E Smith interview by the same Donnie on RUclips that looks like it's taken from broadcast TV.

    Yeah, interviewer was a bit patronizing towards Wendy. She definitely wanted to get a word in edge wise but neither the interviewer nor Paddy would let her speak. On Paddy's part, I understand as a songwriter. You don't get the chance to describe your process and history as a songwriter very often and it seems like Paddy was just really excited to get the chance here. It wasn't anything personal or against Wendy, just a lapse of judgement and self awareness perhaps.
