Hi, great quality pictures. I, too, have a 2009 vn900 custom. I can't stay off it. Such a brilliant ride. It's the first time I ever enjoyed cleaning a bike, it looks so shiny! Very comfortable. Handles well. Not much in terms of top speed but that's not what these bikes are about. It gets lots of appreciating looks from passers by. Only trouble I have found is that it's difficult to find a suitable area of the frame to loop my chain around to lock it to a ground anchor.
Hi! Congratulations with your moped arriving soon. Be sure to relly enjoy your firste bike. I had wo bikes before turning 18, one 50ccm Tempo Sprint (nrowegian) and one Vespa Sprint 125ccm. Then I got me a car and didn't get a big bike until my 50. birthday. Your first bike will always be the greatest cause you'll experience the freedom of riding for the first time.
@VIDEOregi Thanks again for the reply. I understand that this bike is not meant for speeding, just for cruising. If it can accelratate good until 120-130 that seems enough. The wind is probably too strong over that anyway.
@Coleccionista80s Thanks, Really loved riding the Vulcan. I owned a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 a few years ago and I like the Vulcan feel. The 900 is bit heavier and quite long, so it needs a bit of extra handling in sharp turns. Perfect as a cruiser. I now own a Honda 1100 Shadow which is quite similar. Video from my Honda bike coming soon. Made a 4 camera shooting yesterday in the Norwegian mountain roads.
Great Video. I recently bought a Gopro camera for my V-Star. I think it's great that you have so many. I never thought about mounting so many of them around the bike to get better angles. I usually just move it to a different spot. Thanks again for the ride.
Hi! Thanks for nice compliment! The average speed is probably around 50km/h, some really slow curves combined with a few long stretch, so the speed is between 30 and 100 km/h. Ducati is quite rare in my country, but it is well known for its superbikes. Would be interesting to see your choice. I have published another video with the vn900 filmed with 6 cameras, in case you haven't seen it. And my brand new video with SUZUKI V-Strom 650.
@65XE Tkanks for your comment. The heat in Gran Canaria is very nice in January, around 20-22 Celsius. I'm going back to GC this December and will do some shooting with 4 cameras on the same bike and maybe some other bikes.
I'm not a big fan of sport bikes, but I will give them a shot when I get my license. Florida's roads are mostly flat, and well developed, so there aren't many quick twists or turns around my area, and there is a lack of uphill/downhill roads. Thanks for the replies
@bonehead1603 Hi, thank you. Came home from GC yesterday and have shot a new video on a Suzuki Vstrom 650 which i will edit and post in a few weeks. The Gran Canaria montain areas are full of uphills/downhills and turns. Pretty good asphalt most places. All in all, perfect!
Hi, Thanks! Degradation due to compression is present even in GoPro original. This is hardly noticable however. But when you edit and compress the video for RUclips you get a lot more of it. To reduce this problem I prefer to record in 1080p and upload to RUclips in 1080p. I use H264 format at 15mbits/sec. for RUclips. If the video is shot in 720p I use H264 at 8mbits/sec for RUclips.
Thank you for nice comments. Looking forward to my next journey. As a video producer I am really happy about the GoPro with super wide angle and excellent stabilizer. I use Adobe Premiere Pro with the multicam function where I can edit 4 cameras on the fly. Afterwards I do some adjustment to the cuts and then I pick out the best in a short version (6 mins. out of 30mins)
@kkaabboooomm Hi, Thank you for your interest. I plan to rent Kawasaki 900 next time in Gran Canari also, I tried a BMW 650gs but I felt it too small and lightweigt and I missed the sound and tourque. I have a Honda 1100 Shadow home in Norway and its a bit like the 900 Vulcan, classic! Did a video from a trip in the norwegian mountains 2 weeks ago, will publish it on my channel next week.
You won't get any explosive acceleration from this cruiser, but it's quite strong enough for most users. My other video on this bike (6 cameras) was made on a 2 weeks old bike and it felt a bit slower as you mention, and the sound was less pronounced. After 1000km (2000km total) I felt the bike changed for the better both in speed and sound. It's also a fact, as you state, that most of us are more careful with a new bike.
Hi. I used the GoPro Hero1 mounted on the GoPro chest mount under my partly open jacket. So the camera is not attached to the jacket. In my later movies I have buttoned the jacket above the camera to keep it more stable, and to keep myself warm.
@Dazhimself Thats nice, I dont know the name so I was not sure what to think. By the way I will make new video on my trip to Gran Canaria in December. I will use 2 of the new Hero 2 modell plus at least 2 of my regular GoPro HD. I will also test out some new sound solutions to capture better sound while driving.
Hey! If you prefer the harley sound you might be dissapointed with the Kawasaki. This bike sounds better than my Honda Shadow, and has quite a deep sound that can be loud when accelerating, but he Harley sound is deeper and louder. The new harley models with original pipes are more quiet than older ones, at least in Europe, due to regulations.
@kubanitos, The Vulcan 900 is a mid-sized cruiser, not a muscle bike, (and not a chopper). Personally, I'm at a loss as to why anyone would want a "superbike" unless you're going to take it on a track.
Great video! Your quality is a lot better then i got with my GoPro Hero2 camera, i guess i made to much compression on my video, but mine would have been huge otherwise :) Ride safe!
Hi, I feel most comfortable up to 75-80mph, but you have enough power to go faster and to overtake. This is the case for cruisers in general because of the wind. I had a Honda 1100 Shadow for 3 years and this had more power for the highway and a more suitable gear ratio for going 85-95mph. For normal use I would prefer the Kawasaki 900, which is easy to handle and also has a better sound.
@kubanitos Interesting question. This bike is just like my Honda 1100 Shadow limited in top speed, but have a solid acceleration up to 120/130 (140/150 for the Honda). The Kawasaki is perfect up to 120, but the gear ratio is not ideal for highspeed above 130km/h. Could benefit from an extra (6th) gear. The bike has an ideal gear ratio and torque for medium speed.
hey! thanks, I suppose that maybe there are sound increasers or something like that, i dont like soo loud any way, and yes you are right Ive seen Harleys lately and they dosent sound like reall Harleys, (sorry for my english)
@kubanitos Yes, agree. In my two new videos I have six cameras so there is more variation. But sometimes the picture of the driver is used to hide jumps in the editing.
@GCANDY100 Hei, takk for hyggelig hilsen, håper dere koser dere.
With this bike, how do you feel going 85mph?? Will this bike have enough power to accelerate past unaware drivers, or should for something with more response??
@VIDEOregi Thank you for the fast answer. I'm looking to buy my first motorbike, and the Kawasaki VN900 is one of my choices to choose from. It would be really nice of you to make a video showing how the bike can accelerate, since all my friends have superbikes and I'm the only one who wants a chopper. Does this motor have enough power to accelerate from 100 km/h to around 140-160 km/h? Noone seems to know how powerful a chopper really is. I'd like to know. Thanks. :)
Hi! I can't find the exact top speed specification anywhere, but it should be 150 to 160 km/h, that's around 90-100mph. The comfort speed is around 80. Going faster than 85 you will get too much vibrations and wind pressure, as with most cruisers.
I would prefer the honda 750 over the Yamaha V-star 650, if you want good handling and decent power. If you want the perfect bike, have you considered not buying a cruiser? If you are going on straight roads it's nice riding a cruiser, but on twisting roads, uphills/downhills, you may find it easier to control a diferrent type of bike. I had much fun with the Suzuki V-strom 650 2012 on my recent holiday in Gran Canaria. I have now sold my Honda 1100 Shadow and bought a Honda nc700x automatic.
Hi, I am interested in your opinion about which is the better of the two motorcycles for mountain riding. The Honda VT1100 Shadow or the VN900 Kawasaki Vulcan if you wouldn't mind. I would like to do the type of riding you are, at the pace you are going. Thanks
Hi! Cruisers are generally not the perfect choice for twisty mountain roads, but it's ok to manage that also. VN900 is a nice bike with a nice sound, fun to drive, but VT1100 has more power, so it is a bit quicker.
Thank you so much for the reply. I've been browsing google for the perfect beginner's bike and I haven't had too much luck. What do you think of the honda shadow 750? Or the yamaha V star?
+ST0RMBRINGR Hi! Beginners bike? Yes and no. Yes because it's quite affordable and it's relatively lightweight compared to the big cruisers. And yes because it has a low center of gravity and it has a low seat so it's easy to hold when standing still. And yes, it has moderate power and top speed. What's against the VN900 as a beginner's bike? It's much heavier than a typical beginners bike, let's say a 500cc-650cc. It's more demanding to take corners or sharp turns with a cruiser because of the weight, longer wheel base and wide handle bars. Conclusion: If you really want to start with a cool looking retro style cruiser, this bike is a very good choice if you can afford it. If you want a cheaper and more lightweight cruiser, take a look at Yamaha V Star 650cc. If you want an easy to handle modern style bike, take a look at Honda CB500x or CB500s.
Did you edit out the scrapes or did you not find it that bad? Considering the VN900, Vulcan S or the Shadow so interested in how it handles as alot of our roads in Scotland are twisty ;)
No scraping on that trip, it was mostly downhill. I experienced a few scrapings in sharp uphill turns on other trips both with the VN900 and with my Honda Shadow 1100 classic, but not a big problem. I would think the Vulcan S is better in this matter. I also did another VN900 video for my Gran Canaria channel: ruclips.net/video/AvbJpvqAao0/видео.html By the way, in 2012 I changed bike, bought the new Honda nc700x DCT which is perfect for twisty roads and rough road conditions, as well as for commuting. But I sure miss the cruiser feeling and the sound!
There's the difference between Europe & North America. Other traffic on the road not only moved over to let you go by, but would wave you to go. Over here people will actually block you, or go slow on purpose so you can't get through. Spectacular road. I would bet a well-sorted 250 - 400 Super Moto would be the ideal bike for that. No room to use anything with big horsepower. Did the 900 manage ok? Were you scraping or dragging parts in any of the corners?
The 900 was fun to ride but quite challenging in these sharp turns. And the wide handlebars are not optimal on such twisty roads. But I really like the roaring sound when riding the mountain roads. I experienced some scraping on previous rides, so I learned to slow down a bit in the turns. I agree that a smaller bike would be easier. Suzuki Vstrom 650 was ok, but I have also driven the same roads on 300 and 450cc scooters, worked really fine.
Hi! I only rode this rental bike a few days on a holiday, then had 2 days on a brand new similar bike on a later holiday. I had a somewhat similar bike for 3 years, a Honda Shadow 1100 Classic. Then in 2012 I bought a Honda NC700xd which I still have and enjoy, although I miss the cruiser feeling and sound.
Hi! Never heard of any limiter on the Vulcan 900, it should reach at least 100 under ideal conditions. They have made the gear ratio not for maximum top speed, more for power. And as always, a quite heavy cruiser with an upright rider in the seat, has to push a lot of wind. I never got past 110 with my Honda vt1100 Shadow.
They don't scrape if I drive smoothly through the curves. It's hard to avoid some scraping in a sharp curve combined with a steep uphill road, but that will happen in low speed so it's not a big problem.
I like this bike. However one negative I keep hearing is once you get over 60 mph it rev high and does not ride well. Did you have a similar or better experience?
Kawasaki vn900 has low seat and the footpegs are in a good position, so your legs will probably fit this bike. The handlebars are wide so you may have to strech your arms a little when riding this bike, specially in sharp, slow turns. If you are 5'3" and lightweight (?) you may feel the bike is a bit heavy to handle in slow speeds and stops.
VIDEO regi Thank you. I am indeed a light weight at around 120 lbs. That height is barefoot; riding with boots ought to add between 1-1.5". I am deciding between this and the Honda VT750 (14hp down on vn900) as my first bike that I can also use for long range touring. If it was your money, which one would you opt for?
Rising Cookie My money would go to the Honda VT750 if it was my first bike. It's easier to handle and it's Honda quality with a good second hand value. Since it weigh less you wont notice much difference in performance. VT750 has taller gearing so you should get equal or even higher top speed compared to the Vulcan. The Vulcan may have a better sound but the Honda has the sound of quality.
today he told me, he has a custom exhaust, with taken out the "dezibelbegrenzer" (don´t know the english word, sry), indeed, he costumized it a little, but i fell in love with this machine. if i was rich, i´d buy a vn900 and a z800... :)
this bike is why i wanna make my FÜHRERschein ( driving-licence) for a bike... my colleague has a vn 900 custom in orange...everytime i hear that sound...i look my back and wonder: shit, clear sky, where is the thunderstorm, the clouds?
That's a good one. Can't you just keep your smile in between rides also. Just kidding, I see your point. Big cruisers like the Vulcans are designed to make people happy.
Hello Georgia USA. Norway is beautiful, but this video was made in Gran Canaria, in a mountain area. Wish to see my norwegian video? search: videoregi norway
I can't say for sure since I haven't tried the Yamaha. Based on reviews and other impressions I feel that Yamaha is the better choice. The v star series have a solid reputation while the Kawasaki Vulcan has some minor issues that kept me from buying it, it's a bit "Plastic fantastic". I also noticed some rattle noise on the two different Vulcan 900 I tested. The newest of them was just run in and had much less of this noise, but after three days of riding the rattle noise started to increase. The dealer said this was typical for the model and that there hadn't been any real problems with the bikes. It just turned me off a little. Aside from that, Vulcan 900 is a feelgood bike, but remember, both these cruisers are not easy to handle in sharp turns. I had a Vulcan 750 1996 model and this was much easier to handle. The new Yamaha 950 Bolt is a good choice if you want a better handling bike, and have a budget for it.
I'm now riding a vn900 custom 2013 for about half a month. The strange thing is the lack of acceleration despite the fact that it has 900 ccm. It's just the same with my xv535 I owned before. But maybe this is because I have to run in the engine and so I'm afraid of playing with the gas at the moment. :-/ Also the sound is not as awesome as yours. But this could result from german laws which say that a vehicle must be as quiet as possible or the fact that this is recorded by camera.
Hi,

Beautiful ride , video and sound is excellent and , the bike sounds great . I like it !
Hi! Thanks for sharing! The bike sounds fantastic, and video editing is very well done. Really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Hi! Congratulations with your moped arriving soon. Be sure to relly enjoy your firste bike. I had wo bikes before turning 18, one 50ccm Tempo Sprint (nrowegian) and one Vespa Sprint 125ccm. Yes I love it, nice and warm but not too hot, and nice roads and scenery!
Thanks for the great video of your very nice bike! Norway looks beautiful - I will have to visit soon! Best wishes from Atlanta, Georgia USA!!
Thanks! Greetings from Norway/Gran Canaria.
Amazing video! Just what i was looking for.

Hi there, thanks! I just had to take a look at it myself cause I'm going back to GC before Christmas.
I'm jealous..that's like a dream ride ..good post
It was one of those days!
Thanks! It's a pure pleasure.
I'm not a big fan of sport bikes, but I will give them a shot when I get my license.

Very nice sound
Yes, it's a nice sound on the Vulcan 900. It's nothing like a good cruiser sound.
Totally agree about Florida. If I ever come there I will surely rent a cruiser!
Agree, the Vulcan is a nice cruiser.

Si! Sin duda es!
That's right, I use the chest mount a lot. It gives a nice angle and almost no vibration.

So nice!!! Great video. Hug from Brazil...
Oh, my hero!
hallo guys! this video made me but VN900 :) now i am waiting for a summer for my wonderfull VN900 ride.
I think you'll be happy with your buy. Let's hope for an early summer!

Hi! Finally someone noticed the blinker. I saw it when I edited the video and it has annoyed me ever since.
is there any speed limit from factory i mean was it assembled to not reach more than 100 miles??
Have you ever driven the Harley Sportster 883?? Thoughts on that bike ?
Thank´s for the tip!
Thank you so much for the reply. I've been browsing google for the perfect beginner's bike and I haven't had too much luck. What do you think of the honda shadow 750? Or the yamaha V star?

Fin video! Orginal avgassystem? Har en vn900 custom själv. :)
Those are some nice twisties you got there :D
They sure are nice, and quite a challenge when riding a cruiser!
I also did another VN900 video for my Gran Canaria channel: ruclips.net/video/AvbJpvqAao0/видео.html
By the way, in 2012 I changed bike, bought the new Honda nc700x DCT which is perfect for twisty roads and rough road conditions, as well as for commuting. But I sure miss the cruiser feeling and the sound!
Very nice honda
Looking into a VN900 right now actually. Heard a lot of good things about this bike. You still riding it?
So you noticed. I guess I am happy inside. Will try to smile some time later.
@oldschooltakeo Good idea!
Do the floorboards scrape the ground a lot when you going through twisties like that?
They don't scrape if I drive smoothly through the curves. It's hard to avoid some scraping in a sharp curve combined with a steep uphill road, but that will happen in low speed so it's not a big problem.
What kind of helmet are you waring?
Nice.
Thanks! I can't believe my video has reached 200.000 views.
how did you set the bracket on the jacket? which model is that?
I like this bike. However one negative I keep hearing is once you get over 60 mph it rev high and does not ride well. Did you have a similar or better experience?
I have the 2011 custom .... and i agree. Driving over 110 km/hr irritating. This bike need a 6th gear.
How well is this suited for a shorter individual (Custom SE) of around 5'3" with around 27" inseam?
Thanks.
Thanks, sir.
today he told me, he has a custom exhaust, with taken out the "dezibelbegrenzer" (don´t know the english word, sry), indeed, he costumized it a little, but i fell in love with this machine. if i was rich, i´d buy a vn900 and a z800... :)
this bike is why i wanna make my FÜHRERschein ( driving-licence) for a bike... my colleague has a vn 900 custom in orange...everytime i hear that sound...i look my back and wonder: shit, clear sky, where is the thunderstorm, the clouds?
nice
Hi! Never seen it in real life and never driven. Seems like a Harley Light, and could be more easy to handle.
What is the make and model of your helmet and how is it in the summer heat?
The helmet is from the bike rental shop, its not mine. It was ok.
Is there enough torque in 900cc engine
That's a good one. Can't you just keep your smile in between rides also. Just kidding, I see your point. Big cruisers like the Vulcans are designed to make people happy.
Hello Georgia USA. Norway is beautiful, but this video was made in Gran Canaria, in a mountain area. Wish to see my norwegian video? search: videoregi norway
I think the custom version has more sound than the classic don't you think.
Классно!
How does the Vulcan 900 compare to yamahas v star 900???
Also the sound is not as awesome as yours. But this could result from german laws which say that a vehicle must be as quiet as possible or the fact that this is recorded by camera.
