It’s painful, the journey, one I relate to so much. I’m coming into the church at Easter vigil. I left my staff position in October after 21 years. I’ve loved men like Spurgeon and Lloyd-Jones and now feel so betrayed by the Reformation. Shows like this has helped me so much in my journey. Thank you!!
Welcome! There were five pastors in my family. But when I heard another problem Protestants have, which is beautifully and exhaustively spelled out in the book "The Protestant Problem" by DS WAGGONER, I had an aha moment. While it's written by a Jewish person, the last chapter of the third volume forces the Protestant reader to acknowledge that on the Day of Judgment, when the accuser of the brethren throws accusations at Mary, insisting she sinned, God is going to look into the Book, and there will be NO SIN written, but rather the pages will be snow white, even by Protestant standards, because even Protestants believe that if a person repents, the sin gets 'blotted out' and God forgets. It’s “just-as-if-I’d- never-sinned”. (Protestant definition of justification). So even if the Protestants want to insist Mary sinned, they MUST admit that GOD has no recollection of ANY SINS by Mary. In other words, only the Catholics and Orthodox AGREE WITH GOD. If God Himself has zero knowledge of Mary EVER COMMITTING ANY SIN, then the Protestants are in a pickle, because Protestants don't agree with God Himself. Fun book to read, it's a fictional debate between three attorneys, a Jew, a Catholic and a Protestant. The debate gets heated more and more, until the Catholic catches the Protestant with that 'catch 22'. Highly recommend.
Oh my goodness! When you mentioned that Polycarp was a disciple of John, I just realized that I’ve never known that there was written history of those whom the original 12 disciples! I don’t even know who Polycarp is! I was born into a nondenominational denomination (because aren’t they all?) and accepted Christ as my personal Saviour at the age of 11. I was then baptized by immersion in a lovely pond at the age of 13. Unfortunately, much of my Christian life was based upon faith and legalism rather than upon the loving grace of our Saviour. I wanted to please God as my Heavenly Father but I had a skewed view of His character. After going thru a divorce, living with a man and having a child out of wedlock - all of which I knew did not honor God - and having to re-examine Who Christ is and what He had to do with me, I gave up my way of living a returned to the Father but this time, I experienced peace that I had never had before. Suffice it to say that I have been on a spiritual journey and have tried to get away from the emotionalism of my past church experiences - the long drawn-out altar calls, hell-fire and damnation condemnation-type preaching abs have sought to serve God out of love because He first lived me. I currently attend a nondenominational church with a pastor who teaches the Word in a way that is calm yet always challenging us to grow in our walk with Christ. We have a dynamic time of worship as well. Many Sundays I end up with tears in my eyes because of the love, forgiveness and grace of our Lord. Last year I began listening to Father Schmitz’s Bible in a Year podcast and it is changing me. Now here I am on this rabbit trail of exploring the Catholic faith which I would never have been encouraged to do in my circle. Thank you for sharing your story! I believe I am experiencing a paradigm shift…. It is exciting!
I grew up non-denominational, as well. May I recommend “The Protestant Problem” by DS WAGGONER? It’s three attorneys -a Jew, a Catholic, and a Protestant- who debate every morning before work. It’s for people who are trying to understand why and how these three groups disagree, and how they agree. It’s a fun read, but also has serious discussions for anyone trying to figure it all out. I’d like to suggest to you guest that becoming a hospice chaplain is a wonderful opportunity for your people trying to leave their denomination. Hospice chaplains do wonderful work and support all people of faith. We pray before our meetings. They read scripture, play hymns and pray with and support patients and families. I’m Catholic and am a hospice nurse. I so appreciate our chaplains. Maybe it would be a good fit. They could be Catholic and still support others using their degrees. ✝️
I was in the Baptist church for twenty years and I reverted to Catholicism 31 years ago but it took me 14 terrifying years of study I was recieved into the church on the feast of our lady of mount Carmel 1993 .

It's s a shame usaved people somehow fool enough people to get a pastor's job and the prove they were never saved by joining the Catholic Church. I hope he's prepared to worship Mary and pray for and to the dead.
