Personally, I would tackle that with a 5ft topper on a small tractor. Nice quiet job done sitting down with no need for ear defenders. Second choice would be a BCS740 with a flail on the front.
That is a cosmetic job. They will grow back in even more strength next season. A bit silly to put in that much effort for a temp solution. An excavator is the only option. Remove the roots and a couple of foot of soil. But then again, it's continuous work / income every year if you just "prune" it like that. :D
Great job. You convinced me. That's the work I do several times a year with a Stihl FS300. Your machine looks like a great improvement. I will buy one. Thank you

Those things are nice but sometimes I like using a hedge trimmer to cut saplings and briar thickets. With the hedge trimmer you can go in a sweeping motion and just fly through it with a much wider cutting path. The downside to the hedge trimmer is after awhile, it can start hurting your back. On steep hills, mountain sides, the hedge trimmer works so well. I like the bladed weed eater as well.
@@golovinpropertyservices will keeping regular mowing and having the grass choke out the rest of other plant growth be a viable solution for this lawn do you think?
@@Nayte08 it will need to be raked first and then with regular mowing it will go away. I have done this several times and even mow 2 lawns where we have done this.
Good job for the brambles but there will be crown roots ready to sprout about 6 to 12 inches underground that need to be cleared as well. A site that big will need a backhoe, and then the landscape fabric/cardboard and mulch layers on top. In three years the crown roots should finally be dead and you can grow things in the yard. Good luck!

Have you compared this method to a walk-behind brush cutter like the Billy Goat? I picked up a used Ferris brush cutter for my property and now plan to sell it for a setup like yours, mainly because my land is mostly hilly and with granite boulders everywhere -- turns out the walk-behind is tough or impossible to navigate in most of the places I want to use it. But for clearing out flat land or a yard like this, I'm genuinely curious which would be more effective/efficient. Any thoughts?
I've done jobs just like this and bigger years ago in the UK. Used what we call a flail mower alongside a Stihl brush cutter. I would generally use the brush cutter as little as possible, just to locate problem areas or when the stuff gets over chest height. Rest of the time I found the mower is the best tool for the job.
