This is the best shooting coach I have found on RUclips. Phil Handy is the best handles coach I've found on RUclips.
i love how he backs up his form using statistics of the 40 best shooters he surveyed
Great explanation with great detail for coaches. Very logical
Great instructions, thank you!
Your shot path should not be the center of your body. If you are a left handed shooter it is the left hand side and vise versa. With a "center of the body" shot path you can't help but too inadvertently initiate the "chicken Wing" and generate tension in the trapezius muscle. To maximize energy along the target line, your center line is actually generated up the right ( or left) knee, foot, shoulder and eye, all centered on the hoop.. What you are correct about is aligning the middle of your hand with the center of THE BALL That is iron clad correct. You sight physics, well I am an Engineer, former player, and current skills coach. Physics dictates aligning your right hip, shoulder and eye to the CENTER of the basket, it will go straight, with max power... I am not in the NBA but I did have great success in HS and College and was trained by one former and one current NBA coach and coached and studied the physics of the jumpshot from a bio-mechanics perspective for years. Observe Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, and Clay Thompson and you will see I am correct. ... and several others at the top of the game today agree and use what I say above . Their mechanics support my statements . Now true enough , youth players lack the power to do this correctly but allow youth players to have a lower set point and path but still align to the side of the body that corresponds with which hand they are shooting from. This may seem strange to you , but by implementing a slight turn as do several top pros this becomes simple.
Pro Shot System
Shooting with a turn also allows players to place their middle finger in the center of the ball which many find more comfortable including a number of elite NBA shooters. Square shooters almost always have difficulty shooting the ball short because of bad energy transfer as mentioned above. Starting them with a turn or turning in the air fixes this pretty much on the spot.
I actually prefer center line shooting it improved my range a lot
Funny the guys with bad shots are bigs🤷🏿♂️
The best way to learn shooting is to ask great shooters for help. 80% of coaches have no clue or if they do it is a very superficial one. Like the video, it covered shooting basics very well even kinematic/human physiology researches would disagree with some of the teaching points. Starting from shooting line, it can not be determined by coach simple tell where point a and point b. First of all, there are 2 eyes left and right one of them will be the dominant one. Based on this knowledge point B will be affected if it does not aline with point A (starting point). I forgot again no one ever cares. Good job coach.
Please, kids. Don’t shoot like this
can you elaborate why?
Jack Ashurst first read comments below carefully. Then think of one single top 10 all-time nba shooter that shot like this in the last 40 years. When the instructor tells us curry doesn’t ‘intend’ to shoot the way he does in games the whole lesson loses credibility. I watched curry’s masterclass and he explains in detail every little mechanic and that’s the way he shoots in games.
If you want to shoot like a high school girl, shoot the way coach love says. If your shot needs help, any system is better than nothing. If you want to shoot like an nba great, listen to someone else.
@@lancastergerard there is hs girls who are lights out. Dont disrespect the game
Rolando Robles There ‘are’ lots of girls and women who can consistently make shots. I didn’t say girls can’t shoot. I said that they shoot different than current day elite men. So don’t ‘disrespect’ Me by making ridiculous accusations.
gerard lancaster I can kind of see what you’re talking about now but I’ll argue that there is much more similarities between woman and men when it comes to elite shooting than there are differences. The way you’re talking is from a standpoint of male players couldn’t learn how to shoot better from say a Sue Bird, Elena Delle Donne, or Diana Taurasi when in fact they are up there with the great marksmen on the NBA
