    Buddy! read your manuals, you struggled taking the non drive arm off, because you never lifted up the safety pin, which is plastic, and there to save your life if your crank arm comes loose!

    @MrBrownos 10 лет назад +12

    you didnt pop up the plastic tab the secures the crank arm if the bolts come loose.. so i hope you didn't fuck the crank by forcing it off

      @6:56 gives a clear view of it. it is in the channel between the bolts in the centre. you needed to flick up the little plastic piece

    You need to get yourself a torque wrench before you do your next video and some grease.

    the 12newton meters torque equals a 12kg force applied on a 10 cm long torx wrench. You can use a hand luggage scale to pull on the wrench just to make it perfect.

      Florin Crisiacu Isn't it 12kg of force applied to the end of 1 meter (100cm) lever?

    • @aparateauditive
      @aparateauditive 9 лет назад

      Swink No, it's 1,2kg with a 100cm lever if you like

    Yikes... you need to properly adjust bearing preload with that plastic cap. Too tight (as yours was) and the bearing will not operate smoothly and wear out quickly. Too lose and there will be some play in the NDS crank arm. You must thread the needle inbetween. Park Tools has a great tutorial to help with this.

    not a correct way to remove & install the crank arm.

  • @fitfriends4182
    @fitfriends4182 8 лет назад +1

    It was hard to come off because you need to lift the "Safety Clip"

  • @dOoMnX

    OK this is how NOT to install a Stages power meter. You should probably make annotations where you advise people to flip that plastic security tab and use a torque wrench. Maybe use some grease inside the crank arm hole, too.

    Will a ultegra crank work on a tiagra crankset? reason i ask is because i currently have a tiagra bike and i want to buy a powermeter but am going to upgrade to an ultegra bike in 6 months of so and leave the tiagra as a rain bike.

    You need to get a torque wrench and some proper tools if you are going to be working on your own bike. And a bike work stand so you don't have to be on the floor removing crank arm etc, I believe every cyclist should have these tools. Even if you are not a mechanic. The bolts on my bike seat post crank arm etc are always torque to the proper spec no guessing don't want to over tighten or not tighten enough. You can get a torque wrench for reasonable price they not that expensive at all.

    Lol! Man before you remove the left crank arm you should unscrew the screws and pick up the plastic protection, then go down easily. And so... You scratched BB's, and destoyed a protect.

    Ok so you're 2.5 years into using your Stages PM. How do you like it? Have you seen a noticeable improvement in your power, speed, fitness, etc? Please share. I'm thinking of getting one.
    Thanks!

    I'm riding with Shimano 105 and my mechanical skills are 10 times that of yours :P
    Have fun with the Stages! Buying one soon.

    Are the stage products compatible with the mio 505 hc?

    Are these factory crank arms that they simply buy and then install their power meter system to?

    Thanks for this video. I just got a PM too and was having issues with the crank not coming until I saw you use the small round tool. I guess I need one of those! :-)

      The small round tool is called a compression tool. Part nbr: TL-FC16

    Nice, I am waiting for my Stages Powermeter to come. Hasn't shipped yet, but should be shipping out soon hopefully. How are enjoying riding with power?

      I like it so far. I've only put in a couple hundred miles with it, but I'm starting to get a feel for how Watts compare to heart rate. For example, if I keep it below 200W I know that I can eventually recover from a hard effort.

    • @derrickb1974
      @derrickb1974 10 лет назад

      Great, I'm looking forward to being able to work with power after I do my initial FTP testing to get my numbers, then can set my zones to be able to know if I am going too hard or too easy and relate that to my RPE and heart rate as you mentioned. Of course retesting every so often. I recommend reading "Training and Racing with a Power Meter, 2nd Ed.". This is a great book if you are going to train and ride with power. Thanks for the info.

    If i buy the PowerMeter for the Shimano 105 and then buy a new bike with ultegra6700 do i need a new PowerMeter???

    • @oisiaa
      @oisiaa  10 лет назад

      No, the 105 crank will work perfectly even is the rest is Ultegra. The 105 crank is probably slightly heavier.

    • @EgoWarsNOW
      @EgoWarsNOW 10 лет назад

      oisiaa thx for the quick answer :) but i dont understand why Stages makes differences in the gear. is it just because of the weight?

    • @cecool4
      @cecool4 10 лет назад

      Yes VEGAN Weight, but mostly asthetics (weight is in the range of 10's of grams). If you're not swimming in money, it's probably a good idea to go for 105 version.

      i just placed a ultegra 6700 on a ultegra 6800 crank set so i think you can.

    • @Mustis1524
      @Mustis1524 8 лет назад +1

      I actually wrote to Stages about it and asked. Any Shimano crank will work with a shimano crankset, as long as it is "hollowtech 2 standard". I have no idea of what that last thing is supposed mean.
