Have a great break! I rode the Greyhound buses round the states in 1977, coast to coast! Visited LA as well as many well known cities and sites including New Orleans and Niagara Falls. Never made it back for another visit, so take every opportunity that is open to you.

Lots of snow in the Sierras still. Currently looking out at Mount Rose from the Reno, NV side. Still heavily covered over the summit. An impromptu visit to LA may be good. Days are getting warmer and a lot of run off so just give it a little more time. Enjoy your LA pit stop!
"The Whisky" is an iconic rock scene club!! It opened in 1964 and has played host to rock ‘n’ roll’s most important bands, from the Doors, Janis Joplin, and Led Zeppelin to today’s up and coming new artists. Lil'Chap, you need to apply sunscreen more often, your neck is fried! Stay safe!
It’s nothing more than a tourist trap now. They’re wasting a day or two to go to LA, and I could list 500 better things to do than go to that awful place. It was last relevant in 1974 or so.
1:23 Haha. Too bad for you. Even though you cross the tracks the Metrolink train doesn't stop there. I don't know if this would help you or not. Personally the snow wouldn't bother me. That actually looks like a lot of fun. But the cold weather and deep water crossings would do me in. For that reason, my dream PCT hike would be later than you guys are. I would hike the Sierras in July and August, which is the best time to be there. Then I would do Northern California in September into October, and I would save Oregon and Washington for another year. That is the only way I can see to do it all in really enjoyable weather. Either that or flip around.

Well sometimes it's not a race for miles and sometimes it is. Time wasted in California is often lost when wildfires burn in Washington/Oregon, or snow will start in early September. We never know what will happen in the future.

I agree, I'm shocked its over between chap and road runner...they started this whole thing from the beginning... Even hiked the AT together....must be just about speed and hike mileage
