Son of Default Cube is now on a path of revenge against Mike. That's pretty cool. I only use Blender for a couple of things but occasional texture painting is one of them. This looks very useful.
add-on devs should really start working with each other so they could create bigger more productive add-ons instead of re-creating overlapping add-ons over and over. if they do then maybe we could have a similar situation like goo engine where the work they do are being merged to blender main to bake NPR directly more efficiently in blender. if the dev of this add-on and Ucupaint dev start working with each other, then maybe we could have a substance painter alternative baked inside blender, that might even surpass even substance painter itself
Usually these addons are made for a specific usecase. If he did this addon because he didnt like the other paint addons, then cooperation isnt really useful Also there are limitations for what an addon can do
Kinda get the feeling that this Paint System Add-On makes Blender a full-on replacement of 3DCoat in a hand painted 3D modeling pipeline. Am I wrong for thinking that?
Blender does a ton of image manipulation and rendering things. Wild that I never considered this could be done. I bet a team of people dedicated enough could create a decent paiting program from blender code in just a couple months lol.
@@MrXlee1967 yes, you can bake the final result of all your channels to its own image(s), and there is a feature to bake to orm, or any custom packed channel as well
Nice! Works ok with 4.1.1 but with 4.2.1 I must have something set that hides each paint stroke, I have to toggle the layer off and on again to see it.
It is UV map reliant cause if you didn't unwrap, it will not be properly painted. Also you might need to bake all textures in the end for you to export.
I was just wondering about that as most of my Blender work goes into various game engines including UE5. I however guess it is just as usual and I only need to import the saved textures into the game engine and it will work just as normal. Got to give it a try later today to confirm this but I hope that is the case. This would be great for doing stuff like wall paintings/murals ect in a level im currently working on.
Yeah, from what is shown it makes individual images. In PBR Painter you have more control over images, And you can hand-paint and mix in textures too with roughness, metal etc.. Hwy, this free, but their are better choices
@@pixel-ink I didn't know about alternatives (or PBR Painter in this case). I've just checked it out and it looks awesome, can you bake the finished materials so you can use it in game engines easily?
Likely you’ll need to bake first like the standard texture painting. This is really just a shortcut for that with two extra default brushes. You can make custom brushes for the standard texture painter as well. Bake your maps and remember normal maps are handled differently in unreal vs blender.
You could cover the addon Ucupaint, it's free and by FAR my personal favorite addon for texturing on blender Edit: Ok just reached the part in wich you talk about the existence of Ucupaint hehe
I must warn my Bro you must use Paint System first in Layout workspace in 3Dview because if you go on the Texture Paint workspace the addon don't have the good "look" with layers and groups !
The main problem with blender plugins is that they stop getting updated and thus won’t work with never versions of blender. Wasted a lot of money on that.
This is just a worse version of substance painter, open source devs need to make original software not just copy commercial software but make it worse.

I agree. I've seen many similar add-ons over the years, but until recently, they've been extremely slow/laggy.
Who’s gonna pay them for their work?

@@user-rx3xl7zn1u that is because blenders paint engine is slow and laggy
I agree. There now many UV addons performing the exact same tasks.
nice tool. makes the workflow kind of like 3D Coat. 3D Coat is a lot of fun to use
Kinda get the feeling that this Paint System Add-On makes Blender a full-on replacement of 3DCoat in a hand painted 3D modeling pipeline. Am I wrong for thinking that?
0:45 I haven't seen anyone delete a cube in Blender since last year!
Blender does a ton of image manipulation and rendering things. Wild that I never considered this could be done. I bet a team of people dedicated enough could create a decent paiting program from blender code in just a couple months lol.
Someone actually went and did it, I've been mentioning how nice this would be for years.
Someone already DID do this 2 years ago. Try searching of Ucupaint
wow.. this is amazing, the default paiting system of blender is terrible, but this is in another level.
This looks like a fun add-on.
Neat. So this is to objects what ucupaint is to characters? Sounds dope
0:40 you got me 😂
The second iteration of the default cube is still the default cube!
could this be used like substance painter for normals and roughness etc
ucupaint can do all this and more and being free still
Can this be exported to a game engine? godot, unreal ect without needing to change things, Im a noob

For blender 3.6 would be great!
Did I understand that correctly, that if I want to export model to game engine it will have separate material slot for each layer?
also what happens if you export the fbx and import it into UE5? as without UVmaps would it still work??
It is UV map reliant cause if you didn't unwrap, it will not be properly painted. Also you might need to bake all textures in the end for you to export.
@@Shinesart oh ok thanks for letting me know

@@johnpekkala6941 for real it would save a lot of time, let me know how it works out for you :)
Amazing thanks!
This rules!! Thank you for sharing it!
i wish it would have sizes smaller than 1k as i normally make layers in 512 and 256
The bots are staring off this year strong
would've been nice to show how to bake the material to get something useable outside of blender

Also PBR Painter also can bake into a single image as well.
Waiting for Blender to hit substance someday 😊
Can you export the end result to other engines like Unity and Unreal for example?

Thank you for covering this. I really want to find more people using this add-on and showing of what is possible
this adon is really cool!!!
0:44 Mike you did not have to do this
im glad you are bringing light to this
the author needs to change that when you add color it jumps to material preview if its not.
Oh this looks fun

BlenderShop looks like fun.
Now someone can make an alternative where you give Blender features found in GIMP. Let's call it
BLIMP
Does it have smart objects?

Still getting the spam bots. I'm only seeing them when i'm early to your videos but not other.
i waiting for the ODBII plugin for blender.

Default cube noooo

When Mike drops. I drops.
I completely fail to see how this is any better than the standard workflow ???
There are no layer system in the standard workflow.
Never use the default cube. It's cursed. Everyone knows that.
we already had this with UCU paint for years. UCU is even better than this
This is just a worse version of substance painter, open source devs need to make original software not just copy commercial software but make it worse.
You can't not sacrifice the cube.
