- In this video, I am making a pair of silk sock garters for a friend for her elevation to the Laurel, which will be happening this June. This design is a double-sided tablet woven laurel leaf pattern in 20/2 silk.

Sewing:

Cards:
2 1/2" wide (63 mm) made on a 3D printer, a pattern designed by my husband. Free downloadable patterns of other tablets are available on Thingiverse (this one is not my pattern--we are still working the kinks out of the design but these cards are Oseberg reproductions: www.thingivers...)
3 1/4" cards from Schacht Spindle Company, which run $8 for 25 cards. I love these because they are colored on the edges and they are thin but very durable. Similar cards are made by Lacis but without the colored edges.

I have several shuttles--unfortunately, I think that was a gift and it doesn't have a maker's mark on it. :( There are several great shuttles out there, including some in the Amazon affiliate link (see description for the video).

I brought tapered shuttle a while ago and so wonderful to beat down get stitches tight before I was using the one included with the inkle loom. I have came across double face technique used in making custom letters tape. I'm still learning the basics and fascinated by turning of cards creates amazing patterns and get enthusiastic about turning the tablets. I find that acrylic yarn can build resistance to turning maybe wool is better. I have pearl cotton 8 once I build more confidence with weaving I will use thinner yarn.

With you on the April fools day thing, never liked it, never participated in it. People in school use to try to do things to me, rarely ever got far with it. Loving the double face, been wanting to understand it, and skip hole weaving better. May try this once i get the workshop room in order(or atleast, better). Also happy Blated Bday! Mine was last week. And yeah, ever seen pre-teen age, I have always had low key bday's. Usually go out with my mom for lunch.

At 11:10 you ponder where you got your cards from, mentioning you think you got them from a class.
Could they be made by cutting up a milk carton/jug? I realise I would need many cartons/jugs, but we (most of us, probably) use enough that it wouldn't take long to gather the amount of plastic required. Hmmm.

Do you have a video on how to to correct mistakes? Or figure out where you are in a pattern if you are interrupted? (Asking for a friend :) )
I know you had a difficult pattern you did earlier on in the videos, but I can't remember which one or if you showed just how you figured out the issues with it. I have several patterns I have started and gotten through 1 or 2 repeats, but then cut them off my makeshift loom because I was too frustrated.
Anyway...thanks again. I really enjoy watching how relaxing your process is, even if I haven't been able to replicate it...yet!
I have a video with correcting mistakes--look in my video list and it should have it in the title. Essentially, you follow the pattern backwards, turning the cards and removing the weft until you find the mistake. Or, like I did in this current piece, where the mistake is not very noticeable, I shrugged and moved on. :D I almost always stop at the end of the repeat before I walk away, but if I have to jump up in the middle, I leave the ruler where I left off, or at least try to remember which line number. The other way is to look at the top back hole--the color in that hole is from the previous turn, so look at that and compare it to your pattern.

Oh, and, I propped my cell on a box of Crayola (weird, spellfinisher doesn't know that brand!) oil pastels ... and the 'V' pattern at the bottom of the box perfectly matches the stripe-green/white of your work at 26:42 -- though, nothing I have on my table matches your cold cup of tea.
Maybe I need one of those electric tea warmers--like a mini hot plate that you put your mug on to keep it warm. I don't know if they still make those things.

Does this style of double-face weaving ways have the even, pebbly texture? I love the leaf pattern but I also like when the weave texture goes along with the pattern. Is there a term for that?

There are other ways of warping for double face, but I like the even, pebbly texture, too, so I use this S/Z alternating warp.

One question: How to fix an error?
You can very carefully unweave--turning the cards back and removing the weft until you reach the point where the error occurred. It's tricky and slow, but sometimes it's very much worth the effort.
@@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 It certainly seems to be tricky. I imagine I easily could make more errors while unweaving.
But this doesn’t stop me from wanting to try this kind of weaving.
Hi!! I’m new to tablet weaving, I found you while doing a deep dive on crochet and I wanted to make a few patterns for my self. Do you mind making a video about knowing which way to thread the cards? Like when do you do s-threading and when do you do z-threading. Cause I wanted to do a simple wave pattern, but I’m confused on know how to thread the cards to get the wave. The wave I wanted to do is up, down, up, down, up, down-( / \ / \ / \ ), with 4 picks and 19 cards.

A question, how long does a weave of this length and pattern difficulty typically take?
I think I can do 3 or 4 repeats in an hour, and each repeat is 1.5" long. It can vary widely if you're using thicker yarns, though.

Regarding the tradition of pranks/practical jokes on April 1st...Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes. These pranks included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as poisson d’avril (April fish), said to symbolize a young, “easily hooked” fish and a gullible person...or an April Fool.

The history of April Fools is at one time that date was the New Year. When the calendar changed from Julien to Gregorian in the mid 1500s, those who still celebrated the New Year then were called April Fools.
