I started collecting coins a couple of years ago simply by looking in my change, but I really love the old pre- decimal coins. I’m old enough to remember using florins and shillings as 10p and 5p coins and luckily I’ve found a few in the back of draws !
Hi Paul thanks again for another great video,I really appreciate your help in giving the values on the coins as well as other information. You make coin collecting so interesting, cheers mate ,all the best from J.R. S
There are now TWO 1954 Pennies known. I have 7 x 1946 Br 3d's, and 2 x 1949 Br 3d's. I've just been on holiday to Stratford (28th Feb 2024), and bought TWO 1918H Pennies, and one 1919H Penny (slightly better condition than usual) - for 50p each. I also found an UNC 1959 Halfpenny, with about 90% Lustre, again 50p! They can still be found.
A very nice range of coins and all the info is great to see: I don't think you had them in your drawer though. Yes, I would love to see more vodeos like this, I look forward to seeing all your rare and variant coin videos.
A fabulous video Paul . Great information on those Pre Decimals 😊👍. I dread to think what I have in my drawers altogether 😆. Good idea for a sort out 🤔.
I love all these coins, but the 1905 half crown has to be my favourite. A beautiful coin with a beautiful reverse. The Kew Gardens of its day. And I have a 1949 threepence in fine condition too 😁
This is it, for the copper works: good enough to view the detail but with some handled usage, which shows they were there, absorbing the essence of what was when they were there.
More of these Predecimal value vids please! (think we all know how much a Kew Gardens is worth now 😁😁😁) These are "Oooh! Had no idea that was worth that?" vids! Really interesting 👍👍👍
I have quite a few coins including 2 George v 1935 silver crowns in unused condition. Quite a few William iv farthings, some in fine or very fine condition. Also a George iii 1815 Ceylon 2 Stiveers coin in fine condition. Plus quite a few others. Love to get them properly valued. Your information is very useful thanks!!
Compared to the poorly minted coins of today the 20p bit looking like it comes from a child's toy set. The 5p being the worst struck coin, its really hard trying to find one in perfect condition. The Copper Coins of todays sets is usually able to find them with blobs around the edges. The 10 P as soon as you see Elizabeth with the AB poorly struck, look at the Date and other wording , you will find other poor strike marks. I had and sold a 50p with a double Z on the lower tail, fantastic error and not created as some are! The 20p you just can make it up as you go along, the most common error being om the Twenty Pence wording and the beading through the middle at fault. The £1 & 2 Pound with the Bi metal centre piece throw lots of poor strikes.
OH man, ive had draws for years bet never realized mine were upsidedown,, nothing ever stayed in them! Thank you for your vid, I learnt a lot and now can store some stuff tidy
Dear Paul, Here is John from Tilburg the Center of the South of the Netherland's. Thank you very much for your outstanding Christal clear video's, which are a great help for anyone collecting UK coins. Being my human catalog and teacher for my one penny collection, I really respect your way of commenting and explaining, and becoming a member went without question. For the video on the 1920's penny, however, I do have a perhaps stupide question: you handled the difference between type 2 and type 3..... what is a penny 1920 type 1?
Hi John, thank for your lovely comment and thank you very much for becoming a member. Yes, you're right I should have mentioned the George V Obverse 1. It was the Die used between 1911 and 1913. A slightly different obverse but not used on a 1920 or 1921 penny.
The 1864 penny appears to be quite rare too, with the crosslet variant just edging the plain. The 1868, 1871 and 1875H pennies are also in the rare Victorian category, I think.
Interesting video. I do have the 1892 farthing (in VF condition). My favourite half crown is the Victoria Old Head design and my favourite Edward VII coin is the florin - standing Brittania design
I'm wondering if you are familiar with the 2-and-a-half penny piece we used in South Africa. It was known as the 'tiekie'. If you do, what value would it have.. obviously various years. On average though. I may have a few...
Hi Andy, I hadn't noticed the pics on messenger. It looks like 1847 to me but in that condition it's only going to be worth a couple of quid at the most.

Yes, the Edward VII standing Britannia is my favourite too 👍
I have a half decent 1903 Florin, but it's Britannia.
