CAPTAIN JOE!!!!!!!! Soooooo glad to see you're back buddy!!!!!! Us "good pilots" can now get back to learning! Seriously, missed seeing your videos.
Thanks George! Really means a lot!
Definitely agree
I couldn't agree more!
As a native English speaker, I would point out you make fewer language errors than your instructor did.
Because his mother is British...
Being a "native English speaker" is now a qualification? 🤣
Capt. Joe spoke in flowing easy to listen to proficient English . His instructor spoke with a distinct staccato voice - like it was an effort for him to think before he was speaking. Joe is naturally older, so he has had more time to practice and become highly proficient.
He speaks like a mouse.
One part of Joe’s parents is from the uk.
So, this test isn't just English proficiency, but also Terminology/Phraseology proficiency. So much for springing this test on my friends and family.
Correct
Which is also against ICAO's determined requirements for a pilot's English Language level as it clearly states as no operational information nor any phraseology should be reviewed rather just plain English competency should be examined. Radio-telephony and others are the business of flight instructing/examining not the language itself. EASA conduct somewhat contradicts that.
I'm not sure if the *correctness* of the answer is actually gauged, but rather that you can fluently answer in proper English?
Also well done by Tim, so professional, regarding that he is only 20 years old.
Nope - didn’t come to find out more about the English proficiency test - I came to watch YOU take it and hopefully get a chuckle or two. So nice to see new content! Hope you are well!
Finally you are back. You were one of the first aviation channels i followed and helped me get through my fear of aircraft and flight to the point of being a full on avgeek and hopefully near future flight attendant ❤
Not so worried for this as English is my first language but was very interesting seeing how it goes! I was always curious what it will be like :) Thanks for sharing Joe!
Thanks buddy! It’s time for our next video recording together 😉
@@flywithcaptainjoe for sure!! Can’t wait :)
Great to have your full-length video! Welcome back!
I would venture to guess there's a sizeable percentage of us that would like to hear about your weekend in Munich. Thank you for the clip. Always good to hear from you!
Great to see you're back! Or at least somewhat back with a few new videos or so. It's always great to hear you talk about aviation related content. You're explanations are always thorough but at the same time easy to understand. Keep it up and have a nice day, whenever you read this!
So glad to see you back Captain Joe. I love your channel.
Welcome back Joe good to see your doing well bud
Guten Tag Captain Joe! I’ve been wondering where you are, because I’ve been missing your sparkling personality! This was very interesting to me. I’m not aviation connected, nor do I want to fly a plane. I just find that learning about piloting has given me greater faith in flying.
It’s good for us passengers knowing we have competent pilots!
As far as your English goes, I’ve always known you’re not lacking anything. (I was born and educated in Germany, but have been living in the US for many decades). Your examiner has reached a good speaking level at a young age, and he will be going places. Your English, Captain Joe, is excellent!
Glad you didn’t have to resort to plan B. It’s not nearly as exciting! 😂
Tschüss und herzliche Grüße an den kleinen Neffen! Was der wohl am Wochende angestellt hat?! Keeps you fit! ✌️
Nice to have you back, missed your videos! hope, to see more ...
Love the info and thank you for sharing. Have a CAVU Day!!
Thanks for showing us your examination, it was really interesting. Actually very very different from the way they used to make the exams here in Spain long time ago. They used to play an old tape on a tiny radio-cassette player in a big room with many people trying to understand what they were saying, which was almost impossible even if you were a native speaker because of the awful sound quality... I didn't know there are options like Vimana, good to know .Congrats for your great results at your test!
Thank’s a lot Joe. Very informative and helpful. Your videos are really help me a lot since i was pre joining flight school, during the flight school, and now after finish the flight school and plan to take the ICAO English test soon. All the best for you career and this channel. Best regards, from your Indonesian subscriber.
Yes, finally, a new video! Yeah buddy 😊
Hello from Turkey 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷 Thank you so much Captain!!! This video would help me for my interview which I will have to pass for become an airline pilot in the future. I am currently practicing like that questions everyday to feel ready for interview to pass and become a pilot student ..!!! I appreciate your effort for aviation enthusiasts. Keep on great captain!! Thanks a lot!! Congratulations for your success!!
Not surprised you scored level 6 seeing as your English is better than a lot of native speakers I know. I assume you have to take the test because they consider German to be your native language. Reminds me when I was at orientation before my freshmen year at university the guy sitting next to me had to argue with them that he being born and raised in London that he didn't need to take an English proficiency exam because as he put it "I'm from England where you Yanks get your language! from"
He was right.
Good to see you doing a new video I figured you were very busy with cargo flights. The irony of your examination is that you are more proficient than Tim he is pretty good though. I have always marveled at how well you speak English, of course I understand your Mother is from England. I am sure this will be a very helpful video for people that are nervous about the testing...
Love to see you back❤
Capt. Joe, this was an unexpected part of the series' that we follow. It's a great thing that's in English. I would think that in Japanese would be a little more difficult for me...
Good to see you're back. Thanks for sharing....👍👍
😮😅w sr5😅
When I saw the notification pop up, I immediately clicked. Glad you’re back to uploading
Nice to see captain joe back on youtube, very inspiring videos, captain joe is very intelligent and talented, always learning to improve his level of knowledge. 🛩️✈️
Waitin for this video for soooo long time. Ty captain :)
Yay! He's back!!!!
Great to see you back Captain, looking forward to more videos, take care!
Hey captain Joe! I was missing your videos. English proficiency is so important to us in aviation. Thank you for share your experience.
My pleasure!
I just booked my Discovery Flight to see if piloting is a career that's for me! I wouldn't have learned even a fraction of what I know now if it wasn't for Captain Joe! Thank you!
Wow another great video. So glad to see you back making great aviation content.
It is so nice to see you back. I really appreciate and enjoy your videos.
I would absolutely expect you to be at Level 6. I'm a tiny bit embarrassed about my language inabilities -- I'm Canadian, I should at least be able to speak some French! I'm humbled by so many Europeans who speak flawless English (as well as other languages) while I would have a hard time ordering from a menu in French.
Thank you for sharing this with us Joe! I hope you are enjoying flying the queen of the skies with Cargolux!
Captain Joe is back 🎉
Wow, you haven't uploaded for a looong time. Welcome back mate!
Capt Joe! It's been a minute, welcome back!
Really interesting, thank you!
You are really back ? Hoping for more of your fantastic clips !!!! 😉😉😉😉
nice to see you back joe
It would be very difficult for people who aren’t familiar with English. I would like to one day take a test like this but in a different language, just to see how hard I’d fail.
You can try in Russian… it is soo hard, also for me, as native Russian speaker it is difficult sometimes to prepare to ICAO English tests… and in cabin so hard sometimes to understand what ATC told us, because we are at work, we fly, we do something and we have stress and have no time to thinking about what ATC said, especially in LTFM Stambul so hard to understand this language… I don’t know what should I do… because I am study every day for about 6 years … I would like to be a native speaker(((
We've missed you😢😢😢. Glad you're back!!!
Thank you!!
Good to have you back mate 👍
Thanks Brad! Good to be back!
Welcome back, Joe!
CAPTAIN JOE YOUR BACK MY FAVORITE PILOT
Glad you're back. I swear I saw your face on a milk carton: "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN?"
Best comment😂😂😂
The class is amazing i had missed you a lot my captain ,thanks for the amazing classes always !and welcome again to Kenya.
Congratulation🎉
Every thing is new in your channel, loved it
Your back!!!! I hope you had a nice break. I'm so glad for the video. I can't wait for some more great content Joe thanks for the videos you will help me be a pilot one day with all the useful info. Keep up the good content.❤ 👍 🎉
More to come!
Welcome back , Captain
I love this guy
Captain Joe, to me you speak perfect inglich! We need more pilots like in the aviation community!
Finally!! We've missed you Joe!! So glad you're back
Well, thanks a lot for this video. I´m actually going to take the level 4/5 examination tomorrow. Unfortunately there is no chance of getting lvl 6 because the examination is in person but i thing in a few years i am going for the lvl 6 test. You made me confident ;)
Greetings from northern Germany!
Best of luck! You got this!
@@flywithcaptainjoe I passed easily and will straight go for lvl. 6 in 4 Years ;)
Thanks!
I came rushing more for you than for ur video. Missed u buddy. Well love you!
Keep it up 🎉
a very long awaited video Capitan ... ?? Thank you
I enjoyed it❤
As an English teacher and aviation nerd abroad I've always been interested in Aviation English and ICAO phraseology, how it's taught, assessed, etc. This video was so interesting for me!
Обожаю тебя пилот Джо!! ❤❤
So glad your back. I don’t use any other form of social media. Was there a reason for your long absence from our screens? Good luck.
I‘ve been working on a massive project which you’ll hear and see of soon😉
Thank you Captain Joe for this video. You make my day.😊 I was wondering today how I could pass the ICAO exams and it stress me a lot.
You got this!
What took you so long? Glad to see you back
On 10:16 - is this what ATC sounds like to a pilot? I'm so used to the crappy ATC recordings that this caught me instantly
No, it's not. The ATIS at 09:00 is more like it, though sometimes it's worse.
Long time no see. Good to see yo back. Even to be honest, i am also started my career in aviation sector as a ground staff as a customer service officer.
Congrats!
@@flywithcaptainjoe Thanks
Glad to see you're back in action. I have always a kinda bad feeling, once an aviation youtuber stops posting content for a while.
Good to have you back buddy!
Welcome back 🫡
Congratulations mate on attaining level 6,👋👏👏👏👍🇦🇺hope to see more of your videos.
Wow, that's great, congrats! I did my ICAO English test in Ukraine. Received level 4, although on 4 of 6 topics of evaluation I scored level 5. But still they gave me level 4. Not a big deal. But. It seems to me, that my test was way more tougher, than your's) Almost no free talk, 90% is all aviation - described 3 photos, listen to 3 recordings (atis, pilot to atc interaction, ifr clearance).
But your test is wery good, should do my next one here as well 😅
Joe you’re cool !!
Part1. Sections 7, ATIS - you were stellar, but you didn't get her home phone number 😂
This is great seeing a seasoned, talented and well trained pilot set the bar.
Thanks 🙂
Thanks buddy!
Joe, what is your native language? German? Glad to see you back!
Missed you!
Captain Joe welcome back.
Wow, 250€ for a language exam? That sounds absurdly expensive! I pay 15€ per ATPL subject! That's 195€ for all 13 subjects. Guess I gotta use that discount code! Thanks cap Joe!
Hello captain, glad to see you back. I have one question, if I get my ICAO certificate with Vimana, is it possible to submit it to any local authority?
I’m from Colombia and I’d like to take the test but not sure if they will accept it here 😕
Hes back on youtube!
Look Who's back !!
It does help if your mum is British!! No doubt living in a dual language family
I also finally got my Level 6 with the same company and I can highly recommend to give it a try!!
Great video Joe! Is this kind of exam mandatory for pilots?
Yes it is :)
THANKS!!!!!!!
In an alternate universe we would have Dentist Joe
Yeahh Buddy Moment!
You speak better English than your examiner. Your accent is more neutral too. Your examiner sounds like a Bond villain to be honest.
Good to see you back Captain Joe! Sorry for the dumb question but what does exactly level 6 means and what did you have before? For me the questions of this exam seems very basic and some of them is essential to work as an airline pilot. For example understanding ATIS or readning back ATC instruction is something that you are not allowed to miss when you fly the 747. What other levels exists before geting level 6 proficiency? Thank you!
The ICAO Level 4 is the minimum level that is required to be allowed to fly aircraft in international air traffic.
Hi Joe, i agree with Brett, your English is clearer than your examiners
Im also an English native speaker
Question, do you think making youtube videos in English has helped with your English speaking examinations?
4 months later he has returned
Something was cut out at 7:17. Could it be that Joe said “tree niner zero zero feet”? I definitely fell into the trap😅Grüße aus dem Ruhrgebiet👋
Hello captainJOE long time no
See i'm glad
I'm curious about the stipulation to pronounce specifically the word '"three" in a foreign accent rather than in an English accent.
Edit: Changed the word "German" to "foreign".
A typical German accent for the word "three" without proper "th" would be more like "sree".
@@backyardworker You're right. I've edited my comment.
The pronunciation (EASA) is actually prescribed in "SERA.14040 Pronunciation of numbers". You get used to it very quickly! Cheers
Cool share. Thanks
Cpt Joe sounds much more like a native speaker than his examiner. In fact, I first thought Joe was English but then I found out he grew up in Germany.
I just randomly saw the video and felt like watching it.
He is back!! Yay!!! I’ve missed you, Joe! You speak better English than me and I’m a native English speaker 😂
I'm sure you'll do fine :)
The exam seemed easy compared to mine.
I am fluent, but during my exam, I had to listen and repeat atc/pilot transmissions which were hardly audible.
I guess it depends on the examiner.
Joe (and all others), I've been looking for a while already for any sort of correspondence of how the ICAO levels match up against the Common European languages framework (A1-C2), but to no avail. Are you aware of any such table or any other kind of reference of how to compare the two scales?
I don't know of any comparable scale, sorry!
@@flywithcaptainjoeIt is strange that one doesn't exist. Thanks, anyway!
This is very approximate, and I stress approximate. Level 6 is similar to a C2 (native or near native level), Level 5 is similar to C1, Level 4 - B2, and level 3 - B1.
No, I didn't click for that, as Im American, and your English is better than mine! ( Allthough I do get a chuckle out of the way you say "airbuss."That's the best way I can spell it, the way you say it. Here we grneraly say "AirBUS")😊
ANYWAY, I was beginning to think you were in trouble for the "under radar" segment.
Not asking questions, just saying glad your back, and all is "CAVU" on your end!
👍🏿🥂
It’s been long captain. You’ve been missed
