I love how you edit your transitions 5:00 - 5:10 is a standout favorite for me

Agree with most of what's in the scope of this video, but super agree with the quick point you brought up at the very end. If all we're talking about is gas cars vs. electric cars, then electric is the clear choice, and therefore ways to improve electricity generation, transport, storage, etc. are also the clear choice. However, if we expand to society as a whole, the environment as a whole, or transportation as a whole, etc. then there's a much less clear (for many suburban North Americans), but probably better choice: reducing cars, period.
If the issue we need to solve is commutes, then the solution is probably something like the proven public transportation systems that other developed nations have implemented: buses, subways, trains, trams, etc.
If the issue we need to solve is essential travel for groceries, etc., then the solution is probably something like addressing zoning laws to eliminate the need for longer range travel in the first place and/or to allow much more walking, biking, etc.
Thoughts and prayers go out to you, bro, for when the Elon simps find the 0.02s in the video where he was criticized.

*Posts valid criticism of Elon Musk/Tesla*
"Another narrow minded fool suckling at the teat of big oil. Musk actually has a vision for the future, dipshit, and with his 300 IQ he'll make humanity a multiplanetary species."

I highly doubt that use and throw cars that end up in ditches every 5-10 years will "save the environment". To actually improve, we need to bring back repairability.

Another great video! I was just having a conversation with my family over the weekend of all of these pros and cons.

This is one of the most balanced and well made videos covering a single aspect of the energy crisis as a whole. Its a shame this has pitiful viewership compared to your other videos. You my friend have earned my support, thank you for the excellent videos.

That's very kind of you to say man, thank you. The algorithm is a fickle thing, and at my size more niche subjects like this often have a hard time gaining traction. Of course, I appreciate the viewership/support it receives nonetheless.

Hydrogen powered trains feel cursed to me, since overhead electric power exists, and has existed for well over a century.
So I'm looking forward to hydrogen powered trains! It'l be funny.

4:46 We've been 50 years from running out of oil for about the last 50 years. And they won't be *emptied*, as oil will get more expensive as it gets rarer, reducing its use -- a natural carbon tax, you might say.

For those who live in California, you have to be an idiot to not get solar panels put on your roof if you own an electric car. My brother drives a Chevy Volt and just got solar put on his roof along with a Tesla power wall battery backup system. He also got a high voltage charger installed. There is a lot of upfront cost to upgrade your home electrical infrastructure, but it’s worth it here in California with all the charger & EV subsidies etc. So at this point he can basically drive for “free” with 0 emissions because he charges from solar and doesn’t have to worry about gas price fluctuations!

Another problem with electric cars is that they are much more expensive than comparable ICE counterparts, so without subsidies they are not really appealing to mass public.

Mostly yes. EVs have the added benefit of being cheaper to charge and they generally cost less to repair, but the initial cost of an EV makes them rather unattractive to many. That being said, I'm reasonably confident prices will begin to reduce in the next decade or two mostly due to technological advancements.

4:20 and by myriads you mean both standard (and its HVDC extension) and Tesla's?
EU has its connector, Japan has its, USA has one, and then there is Tesla (except for EU, where it's model 3 uses.. EU standard)
Being wrong by factor of 1000..
    well, i got worse sometimes...

Wouldn't hydrogen be extremely volatile if ignited? Like, maybe it won't pollute the air, but it would be one hell of an incendiary explosion.

Easier to deal with a power plant emissions, than the public to service and upkeep their cars or a government. We are backing out of EPA regulations annually and you think the public will do better. Centralization of emissions is massive in comparison to real emissions, not "clinical" theoretical cars on the road. Drive the road and look around you for "well that cannot be good" exceptions to the comparison, massively under reported because ... EPA and CDC cannot report on these issues legally and comprehensively.

better question would be who the hell is going to recycle any EV batteries. no one does as it stands. not unless you pay them to.
