  • HueForge can load your existing STLs (flattish is best) and predict what they will look like with different colors at different heights. This can be used for all kinds of purposed, I give a simple example here.

did you design this file with 1.6mm layer heights so that hueforge would allow you colour each layer and I guess since the layer height is 1.6 in stl - would you set the layer height in hueforge to 0.4 and that gives you more layers than the original stl step height 1.6mm, ie 4 hueforge layers per 1.6mm step in stl?

I set it up with 0.16mm layers yes. But I just used 0.16mm layer heights in HueForge as well though if you wanted a finer color control at the expense of print time, you could also set it to 0.08mm if you wanted to in order to get intermediate blends.

? So you get a 2d print from the 3d stl ? So you move the 3d stl around to get the preferred 2d image? Thanks. Laurie. NZ. 😊

This function doesn't change the STL at all. It's just showing you what swapping layers of colors into your model will look like. It also requires you to have oriented the file so that the faces you want to color are Z up.
Think existing dungeon tiles for example. Make the stone look more like stone

Stupid question: will the Ironing function on slicers give any benefit to hueforge prints?
I have a budget printer and still have some extreme fine stringing.
not really a issue, but for small extrusions I need to hit it with a light/torch everytime 😅

Torching/Brushing is kind of a fact of life with HueForge. I think if your image has large flat surfaces, then ironing can be of benefit (at QUITE a time cost) but if there are a lot of fine details, it will mostly just smear them.
Dry filaments, properly tuned (extrusion AND Pressure/Linear Advance) with the right temperature (often lower than normal due to the low layer heights) are often the best way to combat stringing. Every minor issue with a filament is magnified with tiny layer heights.

Thank you for the tutorials. They're helpful. Just one feedback, Could you please zoom in while you're typing the numbers in and changing the values? It's hard to catch up with (not just this video, in general). Thanks

I'll keep that in mind, I really am not a video editor so I've done very limited editing work, but I'll try to do like that in the future.

sorry if its been covered or if its a dumb question, but are we able to bring in a stl and add an image to it?

    • @hueforging

No, you can bring in an STL and color it, but you can't then add another image onto it (like an emboss on top) currently. This is something I've thought about, but I need to get better at the mesh geometry before I can do that.

I request a modifications of the UI. I would like the dropdown menu for selecting presets, such as color aware, color pop etc, stays open when i select one of these. Now after i select one, the dropdown closes and if i want to see results of different ones i have go thru the procedure again and again. I know the filament library can be dragged out but that doesnt help. I want to be able to click on one after another to pick which one closest matches my expected outcome. Thank you.

This is not actually as useful as you think. Because you almost always need to adjust sliders etc to get that mode to look good, you can't just go into a new mode and have it auto adjust, so it wouldn't be a useful operation.
