    Don't know if you will read this, but you were talking about diffusing and reflecting the light. To me, it's really confusing. Ajax has an 1mm diffuser to print. Does it need to go under the light to basicly reflect the light? Or above the light to defuse it? (so it's less bright'ish, like some LED lights)

    • @hueforging

      In the original version, the lights are around the side. The diffuser is in the bottom to reflect light up to the top. In your configuration you would want to put it between your lights and the top

    There's something else I still don't get (at least this is video "engagement"!). Hmmm. It seems my new understanding is still wrong. 1. If I have all sliders set at 0, why is the picture black? Ig "black" here means "nothing to see" then the convention is all graphics package is to show the checkboard, not one of the possibly colours. 2. If I set slider 1(left) to black, whatever I do I see a solid black picture. Shouldn't I see seeing the blackest parts of the image? 3. WHen I set the next slider to green, whatever I set the height tol I see solid green. Why don't I see the green parts of the image? 4. When I add a third red slider, I finally see some image but I don't know why I need 33 for that. 5. When I move this third, red slider, even when it's below the level of the green, it affects the image. But when it's below the green, based on this video, doesn't that mean that there is no red? If so, why is it changing the image at all? To be clear, left to right - black 3, green, 8, red reveals a (very poor) image at 5 (still below green'd 5 and so - no red, right? no?) 6. Why doesn't even 22 layers of red with transmission setting of 4 obliterate the image? I can't find a mental model which fits with what this product does. So, I installed it, failed in using it and left it alone. Now, you could say "RTFM, moron!" and you'd have a point, though I did watch the "HueForge end-to-end" video and still don't get it. This is a program which does something essentially very simply. It stacks thin coloured layers to form an image. It should be intuitively obvious how to use it. And it really isn't.

    • @hueforging
      @hueforging Месяц назад

      It seems like you fundamentally don't understand what HueForge does. Have you loaded any of the premade examples? Sliders define both the overall height of the model, and layers of color. They don't define specific colors in the image, they define how many layers of a given color there are and where those layers are assigned. So if you move red beneath green, the way the green and red Filaments blend is going to change how the image looks. And the mesh is a heightmap so some of the areas are taller or shorter than others. When all sliders are down, you have a flat rectangle of zero height so I can see your argument for a checkerboard but really what you just did is nonsensical in this context.

    • @hueforging
      @hueforging Месяц назад

      I think you think of the sliders as creating the mesh, but this is incorrect. The image + Luminance method + Brightness Compensation creates the mesh. The sliders just color it. The sliders with dynamic depth set do adjust the overall depth of the mesh, but it isn't like building an image by layers of colors, the image is built, you are just painting it

      @@hueforging I already understood that. I don't knwo what I said to give any other impression. I don't know what "the mesh" means in this context. I know what that word means in English ( A mesh is a set of interconnected nodes), but I don't see a mesh anywhere in HueForge. It seems the sliders set the number of layers of that colour which will be laid down, and the number in the box above each slider tells the software how translucent each filament is. These two together, set how strongly that colour is going to contribute to the end result. I think you are saying that this is wrong, but I can't understand what you mean with " the image is built, you are just painting it". I understand that the source image is inviolate - it doesn't change - and that the end result will always be that image - but the fiolament layers are colouring it. But nothing I;m saying above contradicts that, does it?

      I printed the iguana and very fine it looks too. Your second paragraph explanation is exactly what I thought though I still don't understand the reference to "mesh". Well, this video has changed my entire view of what was going on. You say you haven't been able to work out how to do this to be less confusing but still allow people to work flexibly. Well, I sympathise, but the current user interface is hugely confusing, Here are 3 ideas for improvement: 1. Not the best, but the least disruptive - draw the sliders so that the vertical bar of colour starts where the previous (not left-adjacent, as I thought before this video) leaves off. So, each bar does not shade the area from the bottom to the slider position, but from the layer of the colour underneath it to its slider position. The problem with this is that the coloured slider segments may be very tiny. 2. Have these slider do what people think they do anyway. Have them set the thickness of each colour segment, left to right. "3 layers of black, THEN 3 layers of blue THEN...". And make the sliders so that you can drag and drop them to be re-ordered. 3. Throw out those sliders entirely - they'll always be confusing! Instead do it this way: 1. have a single "colour stack" which always represents a 2-D slice from bottom to top of the filament colours. 2. have an "add filament" button which asks what colour is being added, then provides a dragable indicator on the colour stack, starting from the top of the previous filament, finishing wherever the user stops dragging. It will add each new colour to the starting at the bottom, then adding to the one undeerneath. 3. Allow the user to drag and drop colour segments within the stack, so they can move them up and down the stack, changing their order as required. That's it. > Since there is now only one slider instead of 12, you can make it huge with no loss of screen area, so all layers can be clearly seen. > If showing thin layers is still a problem, provide a magnifier view when the mous hovers over it, or click-to-zoom then click again to undo. > Since it's representing how the filament colours are stacked vertically, make it a vertical slider on the left, maybe. For me, and I think most people, this would be vastly more intuitive than the current user interface. I hope that's helpful.

    Thanks for the tutorial. I do not get why do you work on the mesh core first and then you switch to the Color core. In last video you showed what does the mesh core does but I do not understand why in the workflow you start with the mesh + colors in the mesh.. Then transfer it..?!? Idk, may be I am missing something?

    • @hueforging
      @hueforging Месяц назад

      The mesh core effectively defines a custom luminance function and sets the mesh up. All the color matching is done on the mesh core color stack. If you try going into Color Match and setting just the red and blue in the color core, it will smear all over and the colors will be mixed based on brightness because of the default grayscale colors in the mesh core. So you have to do the mesh first.

    • @hueforging
      @hueforging Месяц назад

      No. The Mesh Core literally sets how the mesh is built. Are you confused why there are two cores instead of one when the color core is mostly the same as the mesh core? That's because in early testing we found at often needed to use filaments we didn't have or image colors to get the color match to work well, and then we had to save the stl and load the STL by itself to adjust the Filaments to colors we actually have. At first I added "pausing" the color match but this made it impossible to incrementally adjust things. So I added a second core with a separate function.
