Wow this is a blast from the past! Back in 1990 I had the standard CPC6218. I really twisted my parent's arm to get me a 6128 Plus but they didn't get me one simply because there was no tape connector like on the standard 6128. Another reason why they didn't get me the 6128 Plus because there were hardly any cartridge games available and they couldn't justify the extra cost (which looking back on it now; seems like a fair explanation).

Thank you for watching! I can see why your parents took that choice. As long as you enjoyed playing on it, it was worth while. 😀

Wow, such a positive review!! I have a 6128 Plus and it's a brilliant machine. Some of the new homebrew games coming out that take advantage of the hardware, look amazing.

Please mention some of the homebrew. I look forward to testing them out. I do like what this computer brought to the table.

I agree do what you want with it… I’ve got several 6128 plus and I’ve hacked on around and done the same as you to one of them and added a tape port.
I’ve even made a mould and am casting new cases for 16 but amstrad home brew

Nice. Keep updated on the cases. That sounds interesting.

    Great video fella
I picked up the 6128plus disk edition the other week for £90 , with controller and burning rubber. Gonna order a multi cart so I can play pang , robocop ect
Think it wasnt 4096 on screen at once .that was its colour pallett .think 32 only on screen

Thank you. Please search for "4096 Preview". You are indeed correct that 32 colours were suppose to be the norm for the enhanced colours, but it didn't stop it from being possible.

@@RetroBoxRoom amazing what some very talented devs got the old stuff to do

Did this require a monitor like the original?
If this had come out a bit earlier, it would have done so well!

You could buy a matching monitor, but just like I use it now, a matching RGB SCART cable can be used.

great to see this video. as a huge cpc fan myself (my first computer!) i managed to get a 6128 plus today but I hadnt really known much about them, but it did come as a shock to me that they removed the tape port!!
i like to load games with a bluetooth cassette and the tapdancer app and was hoping to do so with the 6128.. but alas, they removed all options.
do you have a tutorial or followed one to get the mod done? i am looking to do the tape port mod on mine!! thank you

Thanks for watching! I followed a mixture of these two guides...
      One for a how-to, cpcrulez.fr/hardware_montage_8x-cpc_6128_plus-tape_upgrade_AA.htm
And one for parts, that can be bought today,
      www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/DIY_Plus_Tape_Socket
      I hope that helps?

@@RetroBoxRoom very helpful thank you. That guide though as well written as it is, I just cant seem to visualise it XD I can see the resistor, and relay and 5 pin din that I need to buy, but then it says about a ribbon and all of that and im just getting a bit lost visualising what it wants me to do, I figured I could just use normal wire instead of a ribbon..

I remember buying a JST plug and socket that was prewired. Sadly, I can't remember the correct mm sizing. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out.

@@RetroBoxRoom Just one more question, i have the 1k resistor, and i used a header for an arduino (I will use the cables with the connectors for this also). My only confusion really lays with the "relay" that controls the tape motor and the din socket... I assume a 5pin din would be fine but theres not much on the relay, do you remember what relay you used? thank you

      A 5V SPDT 5 Pin.

Hi, could you tell me if this machine will display anything without cartridge inserted? Thanks!

    • @RetroBoxRoom
      @RetroBoxRoom  3 года назад

If I remember correctly, you still get a blue screen, but nothing happens. As I say in the video, the Basic rom is on a cartridge. I hope that helps?
If not, I can set it up on Monday, and make a quick video of what it does.

@@RetroBoxRoom Thanks! I got one with faulty memory (d0-d3 shorted to ground) and unfortunatly after desoldering signal levels on these pins is still very low - i guess asic was damaged, and i got no activity on display port whatsoever - shame, wanted to see this machine in action :(
