I wondered how eggbeater Jesus could possibly make sense and then there it was 😂 why!!😂
Like I said, he should have looked into the meaning behind it. It is fitting for Huntsville. 😉
@@shamwow1893 - Lord of the universe - wish they'd gone inside and looked at their AMAZING stained glass windows... - google it...
Same.
Born and raised right outside of Huntsville, the actual name I believe is “Cosmic Christ”. It was designed to look rather astral to tie in Jesus with the “rocket city” which is Huntsville’s nickname. I think that the artist focus so much on the space design he failed to notice how much the bottom of Jesus’ robe looked like an eggbeater. 😂 The design is amazing because it is a mosaic of hundreds of little Italian tiles that were placed with by hand or by tweezers depending on the size. But you can say eggbeater Jesus to anyone from here and they will know exactly what you are talking about. It is something to see for sure. They actually had to remove all the tiles and replace them around 5 years ago because so many of the original tiles were falling off. The ones that they removed they sold. I didn’t buy one but now I kind of wished I had so I could say I had a piece of the eggbeater Jesus. 🤷🏼♀️
So, the reason the artist gave it that egg beater look is bc the church couldn’t agree on whether to give Jesus sandals or not. No lie. Look it up. He’s also still alive and they finished restoring the entire thing to the tune of $1.4 mil. last year.
“I knew they changed colors because I watched them.” 😂
Every child under 10 said Amen to that.
It’s funny but also probably the same scenario for who knows how many others. I could go on with a thousand different issues but that alone is enough to make those neon crosses a problem. They serve no purpose other than to be a distraction, but there’s so much junk that takes place in church bodies all over whether they’ve strayed across the line a bit or it’s just outright heretical behavior or apostasy.
Probably ranting too much but the local bar is missing it’s hanging window neon and now we know where they are. 🎉
Make this a series please, this was an amazing video. God bless everyone.
Yessss!!!! Please!!!!!
Totally agree!
It’s a series
John doing Church visits is the series we need!
It really is and if faithfully watch it 😂
It’s not as funny without the blond chick
Well he did have the church hunters series that was pretty funny/ but made up
Hear, hear!!!
When I finally saw the mural of eggbeater Jesus...I lost it 😂🤣
Really does look like an eggbeater smh 😂
I went from perplexed to laughing out loud real loud on seeing the eggbeater Jesus
😂Same!!
It's real. The whole display here is actually interesting. It includes rne "God Rocket"
Tears down my cheeks laughing! Can’t stop
😂
It’s even more beautiful on the inside. Come visit us!
The Collab we didn't know we needed 😂
Man I've been going to Whitesburg Baptist Church now for about 2.5 years. Our family moved to HSV several years ago from a 24 year Air Force career where we had to "church-shop" every time we had to move assignments in a new place, so we understand the whole new guy looking at churches thing. I can honestly say I believe this church is a genuine christian group of countless backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles who are spreading the truth about the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Love your comedy and enjoyed this story. God Bless you brother.
"Egg Beater Jesus" = Oddly fitting 💀🤣🤣🤣
Hahahaha Come out So we can Love on YOU!! That killed me
My husband grew up at this church and we currently help out with the youth here. This gave us a good laugh 😄
What's your church's plan of salvation?
@@MikeCheckBiloxi by any chance are you CoC?
From the little I heard in the video, I really like the song selection at your church. In Christ Alone, King of Kings, and Goodness of God. Three great songs.
Watched this before service with the Interim Preschool Director at Whitesburg Baptist Church (who is my mom) Literally my favorite video, we were waiting for egg beater Jesus tbh
In a world full of division and deceit, two young men brave a frontier most would shy away from in today's cancel culture society -- as they add humor to visiting random churches.
In the pilot episode, they visit a Southern Baptist church in Alabama, and give the viewers a brief glimpse into their experience there. A remark made after the sevice provides a twist in the plot that will leave many viewers speechless.
Comedy and truth telling mix to make for an intriguing series that begs for more in depth coverage and much more laughter!!
This smooth vibing show may well be "easy as Sunday mornings"!
The comments on the WBC comment card were over the top! Be careful where you take your attempt at humor.
Love this video. Do another one!
Great Synopsis! Lol! Love it! Lol
Cowboy Church on Chuckwagon Sunday is the TOP 🏆 winner
Haha. This is hilarious. My favorite line was you can tell how diverse your church is by how far it is from Publix. I tell people regularly: “We’re behind the Publix”
If you went to the ultra tan you went to far.
Please do this bit in every town you visit! It was funny and respectful! Always look forward to your vids “Come as you are but shower” 🤣🤣
He was doing more of these...but less now
that mural... I totally lost it 🤣😂 Definitely looks like an egg beater or a whisk. One of those things that really makes you contemplate the age old question: "what artist thought this was a good idea?"
As someone who has worked in churches for about 6 years, I love seeing what other churches are like and what your experience is as a first time guest. Would definitely watch this as a TV show!
THIS is the series we never knew we wanted, but now is needed!
Yall should go to a traditional Latin Mass church
Could not agree more!
Yes!!
Absolutely!!❤
Went to a Lutheran service in German, as an observer. It was beautiful.
mass is heresy so no thanks
Repentagon! Thanks for the G’ville shout out, Shama! 😂👌🏻
Y'all need to do a comedic documentary or docu-series where y'all go visit different churches around the country.
Yes please make this a regular thing! So funny cause it’s true! If I were a serial reviewer, I’d give this 5 Stars! 😂
Are ya'll gonna do a pt. 2 at eggbeater Jesus 😂😂
Dude, so hyped Crist and Mrema doing stuff together! Perfect combo
Yaaaazzzzzz 👍
"If you're raisin hands at a Baptist church you're outta control"... as a fellow Charismaniac as they like to call us, I chuckled!😂
I'm a member of a Baptist Church, and our pastors raise their hands :)
Oh. My. Word. It really does look like an eggbeater 😳
I'm actually sitting in FBC Huntsville (eggbeater Jesus church) watching this video and reading these comments. So surreal! I grew up in this church, and when I was young I thought it was ugly and very 60s looking, but now I think it's beautiful. I have tons of those tiles, and I also have blocks of the stained glass from inside the sanctuary, because they had to replace those several years ago. Also, loves me some John Crist! I have been watching his videos for a long time. Now I need to look up more about Shama, because he's a hoot, too!
The night before you attended my church, I attended your show! So glad you came! We attend the 9:30 service with all the other "old" people.
Thank you God for providing such incredible variety in your churches, so that everyone can find one they like and feel at home in. Me I prefer Episcopalean, but I can appreciate diversity.
I love this so much, reminded me of going to a two week, three Sundays, girl scout camp in 7th grade. Being a cradle Catholic, myself and four best friends couldn't wait to check out other churches services in the wild of the woods, and my Father taught me that if two or more gathered together in Gods name, he is with you❤
John AND Shama are doing the visits. They both make this series so great. I'm not taking anything away from John because I really like the dude, but all the comments refer just to John as if Shama doesn't exist. They both bring elements that bring value to the series. I LOVE IT!
I grew up in the Eggbeater Jesus church! Even lots of the church members laugh about it and call it that! Definitely legendary in Huntsville. 😉 TBH, I wish you had actually gone in and attended a service. It's a great church with wonderful people. Also, you really should find out the history behind the mosaic .... It actually does have meaning. The image itself is a little odd, I agree, but once you hear the background, you discover it's fitting for Huntsville. 😊 Cheers!
Does it involve beating nonbelievers into submission like scrambled eggs? If not, I don't really care to know the real history behind it.
We also refer to it as St. Wisk. Or because of the missile-like bell tower - Our Lady of the First Strike Capability :)
So glad you got to experience Eggbeater Jesus while you were in Huntsville! 🤣 That mural is the Lil Sebastian of our community. 💀
The fact that Eggbeater Jesus is a real thing means you HAVE to go there next.🤣
"You mean Egg Beater Jesus?" -Lady from that church. Then you see Eggbeater Jesus and the world makes sense
absolutely surreal seeing my church from an external perspective in long-form RUclips content
Oh man! You were in our neck of the woods and all my family works at The Rock!
2:01 John Crist: “Here we are in 2023 going into a church blindly. Nobody does that.”
Me and my family anytime we travel: “Hey where we gonna go to church? Well we’re gonna drive until we find some place intriguing. If we’re moved by the service, great! If it’s a dumpster fire, we have something to talk about on the way home.”
I never understood why we aren't jumping and dancing arms raised up. Every Sunday even this past Easter it was so sad seeing a whole room of no one excited about what Jesus has done. I love this video this is cool.
Some people like my husband are excited on the inside lol. He's not very expressive/emotional. He's very logical/thinking oriented. And when he's excited you can barely tell. Giving him gifts is no fun because I never get a good reaction, even if I get him something he really really wants. It's just how he is. People are all different, and have different worship styles and comfort levels.
I'm somewhere in the middle lol. Maybe a hand raise. A little bit of a sway. I think sometimes the jumping and dancing people can look performative. Not saying everyone is doing it for attention of course, but it can sometimes come across that way and can be a bit off-putting. I think about how Jesus told us to go into our inner rooms to pray and God will reward what is done in secret. And I feel similarly about worship. Again, if it's genuinely coming from a person's heart, I say worship however you feel led to. But I think we should all be very careful and check our motives either way. Is it truly to worship the Lord, or are we seeking attention or trying to show others how Holy we are? Or are we being stoic because we are embarrassed to worship the Lord in public? As long as people's motivation is on the Lord, that's what matters however you worship.
Read the Bible
When sinners are in presence of God or one of his angels, the natural response is to be silent and fall with your face to the ground
@@malibudolphin3109But equally praise, shout and dance in the spirit! Sinners repenting isn't the only reason for attending Chapel, it's studying His Word, Worshipping Him with spiritual songs, Psalms and Hymns and fellowshipping with our fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ xx
“We need to be clear about the role of faith not only in justification, but in every aspect of living the Christian life. The foundation of all Christian living, as well as of justification, is faith’s looking away from self to Christ and his promises. There is a time and place for introspection to see if the fruits of true faith are present in a Christian, but the examination of such fruit must not lead us away from the centrality of faith itself.”
“Praise songs, which originated in charismatic circles and spread widely in other Protestant churches, seem often to express rather spontaneous waves of emotion. But their use is carefully planned with an eye to the emotional effect on the worshiper. In such a session of singing one can predict exactly when the hands will be raised and when other emotional responses will be exhibited.”
“…Emotions themselves must not be trusted as an accurate guide to truth, virtue, or the presence of the Holy Spirit. Rather the emotions must be properly channeled and directed. They must be governed by the sanctified intellect and will of the Christian. They must be the effect of true faith.”
“When emotions are misused, there is a constant danger of manipulation. It is easy for effective leaders to move people, especially trusting and expectant people, to feel what they want them to feel. Easily the church becomes a theater where feeling and catharsis take the place of true faith”
-Robert Godfrey
I agree here, as I am a reformed Calvinist BUT also in the book of Psalms there are at least seven distinct actions or ways noted that were considered then. Some are as you say, rejoicing with hands high, dancing, etc. Yet others are the complete opposite of those and are acceptable.
My thought is that it’s the Holy Spirit that draws us to God, Christ reconciled our debt of sin as we recognize our inability to be be holy and sinless, which is God’s line of acceptance. The Bible says Jesus will continue the work on us, our hearts and our lives and we’ll continue to be drawn closer to his heart through his Word, which in turn will change our hearts again and again. If Christ builds an element of rejoicing inside of us that is equivalent to some of the ways that David and others praised God in the Bible, then what does the pot have to say to the potter. If not, I’d rather honor God with what I have and not let my emotional reaction to music or a group play a role in something they may feel amazing but is really just what is mentioned in Isaiah 58-a self centered demonstration focused on what God can do for us with warm feelings of self satisfaction.
Spirit and Truth
Sorry for the rant, just hope that encourages those who struggle with feeling that they are missing something due to their lack of “emotional” response or have even been corrected over it. God wants us to worship and worship in Spirit and Truth.
I'm an Orthodox Christian but spent all my childhood at a baptist church my favorite cousins went to. I remember them being as strict as they were giving and overall fantastic people.
Orthodox Xtian adult convert here-there’s 2 of us! Great comedy.
Orthodox?
Like Eastern Orthodox or Reformed?
Just curious. I’ve studied for years so I know a lot about orthodoxy, just haven’t heard or seen many people profess it. Would love to talk to you
@gpmoore, I’m not sure which one of the two of us you’re asking. 😂. Anyway, in my case I am Eastern Orthodox Xtian. It doesn’t matter which “ethnicity” of Eastern O’dox church you go to, the Divine Liturgy (mass) will be the same and mostly in English here in the USA. The tunes or “tones” of the songs might be different. The songs might be in a different language, but the Liturgy will be in the same order as in any other O’dox church.
I converted in the local Antiochian (Arabic) O’dox church. There was always some chanting and singing in Arabic along with the English. We also used Old Slavonic, Spanish, Greek . . . We had parishioners from around the world and from the USA.
The same was true for my next church, which was a Greek one. I’ve recently moved to another town, and there’s a Greek church near my house, so I plan to visit. There’s a Romanian church near here, too.
I enjoy learning about various languages and cultures.
I was looking for a more traditional liturgy than that of my last church, which was nondenominational. I certainly got my wish!
@@gpmoore sure thing yes indeed Eastern Orthodox all the way ))
I am so excited about these church tours! And having Shama go with you just brings more comedy!! I love everything you both have to share!! You guys are awesome! 😂😂😂❤
More more more of these style of videos. Loved it. You two are great together and would love to tour around with you all! Great video ❤
Just got out of mass for this. I’m excited to see more of this. You need to visit a Catholic Church.
I’m dead! I live in Huntsville. This was fabulous! 😂
I. Was. Not. Ready. For. Egg-beater. Jesus!!! 🤣😭🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😭😭😭😭😂🤣😂😂🙈🙈🙈
I'm straight up getting married at First Baptist Huntsville next March 😂
Congrats!
Def need some pics in front of Eggbeater Jesus, but as you probably know, the inside is beautiful. John missed out on the stained glass windows. He probably would have gotten some additional mileage out of those, as they're also really unique, and appropriate for Huntsville! 😆
OH MAN... Egg beater Jesus had me rolling! PLEASE do these more often...
"Egg beater" Jesus 😂
They are in my hometown!! I grew up in the church of the nativity!
I shopped around for a church on a military base over seas and the Baptist service was the only one that I felt was like a family. They had an amazing choir and a great preacher. I miss it so much. Have yet to find another church like that here in my hometown.
Whew, thought we were going to get roasted more than that, haha. My daughter froze when she saw yall. To be clear, that school is a public school, our school is on the South Campus (other side of the school) haha.
I love this!!! Just two dudes having fun finding a church on a Sunday morning.
Made me appreciate my small church so much more😁
This is the way
seeing egg beater Jesus irl is now on my bucket list.
The backseat Baptist having fun is my kind of rebellion
This is honestly among the most creative content I’ve ever seen on RUclips. PLEASE keep doing this series and thanks for the laughs 😂
My husband does this whenever we move to a new town. Scopes 'em out. 🤣
Yes! Make this a series!! I'll never look at an egg beater the same way again. 😂😂😂
“Handling snakes next week” 🤣🤣🤣
I'm from Huntsville...this is EXACTLY what I needed today 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you!
Also, I hope you drove down whitesburg and took note of the churches that lined the road...literally a different church every mile for miles...no gas stations, places to eat, nothing- just churches 🤣
Some enterprising person needs to open a Sunday only lunch buffet on that road, serving from 11am - 3pm. Imagine the business!
@@melissamcgill1359 Right!?!?!?!
I laughed so hard when I saw it!😂😂😂😂😂😂 egg beater Jesus is priceless!!!!
I’m like “it is such a shame that there’s only 3 episodes so far because I just wanna binge a whole series of this”. We’re loving it John! Go around the whole US!
Being from New Hampshire, I am at awe with the size and plentifulness of these churches. 2 of our kids live in the south and I’ve been to one of these mega churches and I was floored by the size of them. We attend a conservative baptist church, I’ve been attending there for almost 40 years and if we ever move south I would need to find a smaller church than what Ive seen in this video. I’m sure they are god fearing and Gospel driven, but what draws me to our home church is the ability to know everybody and truly feel like it’s a family. Praise God for the way he is moving in our country!
With a large church you get in a small group.
"Come as you are... but shower, dude!"🎉
This is it! You have found your calling! You're on tour. Your Sunday mornings are free. From the big churches to the small towns where the Baptists and Methodists are across the street from each other, it's John and Shama's church reviews!!! Love it! Carry on...
I would have been so annoyed if they didn't show egg beater Jesus at the end 😂😂
Love seeing your drive through Huntsville!!
Oh man. I grew up in Huntsville and know all those sights and churches well. This had me rolling.
I grew up going to this church! It was nothing like that when I went. We had pews, an adult choir, and everything else the classic southern Baptist church had. They’ve really changed with the times
Thank you, now I can never unsee the egg beater. Sigh. 😂
If you want to be like Jesus, He was homeless. You're welcome to use it in your comedy, John. Your message is so loud and clear. Humility and love for people.
Our family just spent the last year doing this for the exact reason that we didn't want our kids to only experience 1 type of way to worship, 1 style of church. We wanted them to see a bigger view of the body of Christ. It was so eye opening and beneficial. Although there were a few where even our 10yr old left saying...the Bible does not say that! whoops
The Egg Beater Jesus ending was so unexpected 😂
I love this so much! I know people that go to the Mayfair & the egg beater churches!
Thanks for the giggles. Also want to say that I appreciated your interview with Carey Nieuwhof…🇨🇦 ❤
This is hilarious!! I grew up in Huntsville, AL and I remember the “Egg-Beater” Jesus!! All these years it is still there!! (I graduated from S.R.Butler H.S. in 1982. So, a really long time ago!
Egg beater Jesus 🤣🤣
I grew up in Huntsville and was a member at the "Eggbeater Christ" church. My husband and I were married there. You should see the inside, it's beautiful. I haven't been back since 2016 so it was fun looking outside your car windows and seeing things I haven't seen in awhile.
Holy smokes! I saw Eggbeater Jesus in the title, and I knew. I know this church. I passed this church on the weekly as a kid.
Thank you for remaining open about your faith while working in comedy. ❤
"egg beater Jesus"???????.....then we saw the mural, and it was like "EGG BEATER JESUS!!!!" Great video!
Definitely need more of these!!!!!!!! I laughed out loud multiple times!
So many people ascribe to the idea that, though Christians are under grace, this one part of Law must stop be enforced by churches. The tithe is part of the law no matter how many people deny it for the sole purpose of making people feel guilty for not giving. It’s wrong.
I knew this was in Huntsville when the comment about Eggbeater Jesus popped up 😆
I need them in my life. Daily. Love JBC
Y’all should visit the church that previously had the massive “Touchdown Jesus” statue before it got struck by lightning. They replaced it with “Hug-a-Bubba Jesus”! It’s off I-75 in the Dayton, OH area 😂
Why do I always think "Righteous Gemstones" when I watch these videos? 😂
You're not the Only ones to do this. Loved it!! Please do another!!
I'm loving this series
Oh my goodness. That was magical. Please consider making this a series.
I was not prepared for the Eggbeater Jesus. I think I laughed too hard at that.
This is soo hilarious and Soo relatable! As I was literally reading reviews for churches recently cuz I’m in a new town lol! I laughed so hard I started crying lol! 😂🤣
Love this!! Please make this a series!!!!
I will watch every Church visit video you post❤
We need more of these videos😂 Love it! My church is a historical church and we have 3 denominations so each Sunday is a little different but we keep it fun.
Never heard of egg beater Jesus. Then I saw it and boooyyyy it didn’t disappoint. I woke my dog I laughed so hard.
🤔Egg beater Jesus?…Okay, it does look like an egg beater! 😂😂 😂
I’m a Huntsville native, and “Egg-beater Jesus” is definitely a thing.
Watching this before church today 😊
Same
Me too😄
Me too
It's nice to visit other churches.
The two of you rating churches….pure gold. So funny and SO true!
