Have the 1.2 Fluid model for 2 months now and very happy thus far! 16.8km/l / 5.95l/100km so far after 1500km. White looks much more expensive and striking.
Great review. But a top spec with no daytime running lights, halogens & no sunroof? Why don’t these guys understand that style & looks are everything for South Africans?🤦🏽♂️
I think they also understand all that comes at cost for them. And looking at their competitors, they will not stand a chance if they wanted to play that game.
I've done 948km on a tank in a 1.0tsi manual Polo. Average speed of 76km/h and consumption of 4.9 liters per 100km. Beat the manufacturers claim quite easily.
I bought a Hyundai i20 1.4 Fluid 6 Speed Manual out of the box in February 2015, the shape before this one. Travelling to Europe on a regular basis from middle 2015, especially Germany, you actually see that Hyundai South Africa is quite different from Hyundai Europe, the same spec Hyundai here in South Africa has much less features than the same spec in Europe. I mentioned this to the sales person that I bought my Hyundai from, the 1.4 Fluid being my second Hyundai, previously the 1.6 5 speed manual 2010 model. He just raised his shoulders. Needless to say, he left South Africa with his family, now working for Hyundai UK, and to be very honest, I think my next purchase will be in the direction of the Haval Jolion, also reviewed here, and from a money point of view, more car for your buck. So sad to see Hyundai SA not listening to their customers.
I think it's the market in SA. A Polo and a Micra start at about R315 000. A higher specced vehicle would be unaffordable. Everything is crazy man. Haval Jolion is excellent value, but it's fuel consumption is wild. You're getting screwed one way or another.
I read most of the comments here and I gathered one thing from the most : change is difficult, most of people ant happy about the new design, they'd rather be stuck with the old generation, well, heads up guys all the Hyundai models are changing and will look almost the same, look at the New Hyundai Tucson and Elantra and i10 all the similar changes.... As for me I like the changes, mostly the interior trim of their N cars
My first car was a I20 previous gen i was really excited about that car hand an accident and changed to a ford fiesta everyone was like why a fiesta 1 year later i would not change my fiesta for anything polo or i20 or suzuki that car has the best handling in the segment that new i20 in just over the top with design
I'm a cheapskate. I'll rather buy a corolla quest and a venter trailer if i need more boot space, and still have money left over to ACTUALLY pay for a new big screen tv and washing machine.
At 3:10, that claim about the 1.0 litre Ford engine is NOT true in the slightest. That engine in different states of tune in both the Fiesta and discontinued Focus return between 5.0 and 5.5 to the 100km without fail. I should know because I’ve owned both cars
When the brand first came out in Australia, the ads used to say “say hi to Hyundai” ( hi-oon-die) but then a few years later they corrected the pronunciation to ‘he-un-day’ because apparently they got upset at the parent company in Korea about the ads they showed 🤔
Great Review Ciro, The instrument cluster looks like a digital version of the Chev utility funny enough, I would not buy one because its just too plastic, at R330 000 that is no longer a budget vehicle for the majority. You are right, the crossover segment is better at this price, and the only downside to the crossovers you mentioned was the Airbag quantity, but they have much more spec than this Hyundai i20 and will sell for more after a few years
Having bought i20 petrol (as last year there was no turbo petrol available), i found out that they reduced the power from 1400cc to 1198 cc for BS 6. and as i am a mountain resident, i have driven it on hills and plains both. the car (non turbo petrol version) seriously lacks the power and torque in 3rd gear. every time you will need to shift down to 2nd or 1st very often in hills, barely you will use the 3rd gear climbing uphills as it has no power ( that is not the case with other cars of same segment !) the same strategy applies for overtaking in plain highways. For a guy who is new to this car, he will feel it difficult to overtake without having shifted down the gear to 2nd. If not done in time it may turn into something else. it is a nice family car but a serious disappointment for anyone who cares about revving the engine for performance. skoda rapid, polo and even maruti suzuki cars dont have this problem. its a fun to drive them. on the top the suspension is way too soft if compared to polo. every small hole in road will make you put the brakes on. its more sensitive than should have been. all the new buyers, do get this in mind, you will get all the features loaded in this i20, but you will not get the power and punch that young guys need at the first place. diesel variant is hopefully good. and off course the turbo petrol will be a savage but at the cost of low mileage ( mileage was the issue because of which they reduced the displacement from 1.4 ltr to 1.2 ltr now) . all the best
Which is a better buy? 1. Kia Sonet 1.5 Manual EX (R330k) 2. Hyundai i20 1.4. Motion Automatic (R300k special deal) 3. Hyundai Fluid 1.0T Manual (R330k special deal)
Something weird I picked up, the Hyundai i20 sold in Europe is a bit different to the one in south Africa. The rear seats lie flat in Europe with 332 Litres of bootspace versus 300l in RSA, car has esp and 48v ,led headlights, very strange

@@sigcinondlela8385 Yes its pretty good. Only complaints are mileage which is horrible in traffic, about 9-10km/l only. And even the asta model's bose speaker system is just mediocre. I’ve owned this one, too spec, manual and I hated it! Lasted about 4 months, until I traded it in for the new Polo Life. You feel every single pebble on the road, every crack becomes a pothole too! Zero comfort. Car lacks power and even taking off, at an intersection, you need to say a prayer before you move along.. no fun to drive, no comfort and certainly, not worth 350k!

Polo 70kw 450g
