- The C.Crane CC Radio Solar AM FM NOAA Weather Alert Emergency Portable Radio goes above, and beyond with Medium Wave Performance. C.Crane states the radio has an oversized internal ferrite antenna, so expect Excellent reception during the Day, and Evening Hours. During this Evening Medium Wave Band Scan I log a new Station that is 1,400 Miles from my Location! Later I found that by using headphones I was able to "DX" even more distant stations.

Overall, the CC Solar provides the User with an Incredible Tuning Experience. Who would have thought that an Emergency radio could be this good :)

No radio is perfect, this one is excellent for the money. Thanks for the honest review 👍.
The Spanish music @ 1620 was Julio Jaramillo! An Ecuadorian great!
Just got this one and I’m amazed at its performance and sound quality.
Just ordered an Ep Pro a few minutes ago based on your reviews of it a few years ago.
(NZ) just bought this a few months ago....love it to bits....great for picnics, workshop, kitchen or bedroom...an AM powerhouse, FM perfect but not a boombox by any standards.
Around 60 years ago when I lived in Atlantic City my parents came home with a Sony am/fm . It was mystical. It picked up everything. Even the cc radio does not compete with that 60 year old Sony. It is possible that my memory is off. It just seems that way. Now I purchase Sangean, Eton, and cceasy. Eton radios are very good also. Sometimes they use the Grundig name.
Nice this radio 😳😳😳.
I’m ordering one tomorrow❗️
[ you convinced me to spend more money 🤣].
📻😁
Todderbert, thanks for your excellent tutorial video review in reference to the C.Crane CC Radio Solar AM/FM/NOAA Weather Alert Emergency portable radio! The radio has excellent sound quality and a very sensitive receiver with its oversized internal ferrite antenna! I would definitely purchase this radio on its name alone C.Crane Company!
So, I’ve had mine now, a few days. Anyone thinking the price is too high for an Emergency Radio - this is NOT [ just another] Emergency Radio❗️
High quality and high performance, lots of unique features. No, it’s not a “ Super Radio “, but AM (MW), FAR outdoes any other Emergency Radio I’ve ever come across.
[* I don’t know about the CC Solar Observer - I don’t have one……..yet].
Even the little things like the
“glow-in-the-dark” Flashlight button. And the high quality, high output 18650 battery.
[ I bought a second battery, when I placed my order].
📻🙂
This is one of their best radios.

I agree.

Hej Todderbert thanks for the bandscan the CC Radio Solar is a very nice radio wirh good emergency radio features take care and have a nice weekend.
Thank you very much for the great review. Top Shelf.
beginner's question: how do you know which city is correlated to which frequency?
Normally during the day, the stations are pretty much the same. You listen at the top of the hour for the station ID. Use that along with the frequency displayed to look it up on google. Evening can be tricky because of fading conditions, and long distances traveled. It is most fun to discover new stations during the evening hours. Again Top of the Hour you tend to get the Station ID. Or if you hear an add for a certain dealership, you can enter it in google and check to see what city they are from. Then find out which stations broadcast in that area on the frequency you are on.
Nice radio, also I see they have useful radio buying guide on their website when I followed your link.
Good to know! Thanks Paul.
A nice feature is being able to listen to the radio when emergency alert is activated. Wish it was available in black or dark grey. Still, no hinged battery lid.
Hey todderbert, wondering if you can help me with a recommendation:
So I am now the proud owner of a CC Pocket and a Sangean CL-100. The former is my emergency bag radio, and the latter is my nightstand Tornado and Winter Weather warning radio. While either one of these could serve the third purpose I have, I feel like there's a better option and would prefer the others to remain where they are. Kind of looking for a "take to the basement when the tornado sirens go off" radio, as well as something I'd take camping/boating for both light entertainment and for emergency purposes as the primary radio, with the Pocket as backup.
For this reason, the CC Radio Solar seems like the best option due to the dynamo, etc., but I really like the additional capabilities (esp. FEMA bands in the event of a major tornado or hurricane) of the CC Skywave SSB. What are your thoughts? Am I overlooking another radio that would be even better?
Thank you!
Also, thank you for all your videos! At 30 y/o I have discovered a new, and awesome, nerdy hobby thanks to your large library of reviews lol. Keep up the great work!
Hey Todderbert? Radio Rebelde is also on the shortwave band 5.025 kHz.
Looks like it might have similar guts as the CC Pocket with a bigger AM antenna, better speaker, and other enhancements.
No one makes anything like this radio, I have had mine for 2 months and it is second to none!!!! Worth every dollar….
I got mine a few days ago and all I can say is, "Wow!" I thought I might miss "reading lights," but the truth is I have LOTS of other battery/rechargeable lights, so it's definitely NOT even a "minus" for me. Everything is a todderbert demoed. VERY, VERY happy with this radio. Reception is fantastic. Sound quality is fantastic. The only negative in MY review is that I forgot to use the todderbert link. :-( to purchase it. :-( I had the link saved, but I had also added it to my Amazon wish list. When I purchased it I had a couple of other things plus a "special" offer from Amazon, so I ended up not using his link. :-( If my life depended on finding negatives compared to other emergency radios that todderbert had reviewed and I had researched, it might be things like the lack of a "map" or "reading" light, less battery capacity than some of the newer radios out there, "paged" presets. But, I REALLY have to dig because the performance, fit and finish, ergonomics, look, and feel of this radio are all superb. Great review from todderbert, and once again my only disappointment is that I didn't remember to use hiss link so that he could get "credit" for a sale.
Sometimes R.Rebelde really cranks up their power, and , even up here in Jacksonville Florida, it wipes out everything from 520- 550. And same with their other R.R. frequencies.
