Breath-taking Brittany: Discovering Quimper, France

Quimper is a city in Brittany, northwest France. Near the old town, and its half-timbered houses, the Gothic-style Quimper Cathedral features soaring twin spires. The Breton County Museum has archaeological finds and traditional Breton costumes. The Fine Arts Museum holds European paintings, with a focus on regional art. Southwest of the center, the Faience Museum displays the city’s distinctive faience pottery.
Quimper is surprisingly little-known beyond a few Brittanyphiles. Certainly, I’d never heard of the place until a few years ago when in pleasant Rennes, and trying to shake off the severe underwhelming disappointment of poor, dear war-blasted Brest, someone suggested the place. Quimper, for me, has 3 core things going in its favour. Firstly, it’s full of history (mostly still-standing, fortunately) and this richness is palpable from the moment you arrive. Its streets are stuffed with pretty, often half-timbered, houses and the Gothic St Corentin Cathedral provides a grand focal-point. Secondly, it’s small(ish). It has a villagey feel, notwithstanding its 60,000 population, and everything worth seeing is within easy striking-distance. And thirdly, and for me perhaps most importantly, it has a palpable soul. Pretty as it is, it hasn’t sold its soul to the soiled terms and conditions of mass tourism. The shopkeepers are friendly, people smile (not always with great teeth, tbh, for this *is* France, after all) and there is just a very lovely air of somewhere not only pleasant to while away a day of your life, but also pleasant enough to while away the rest of the days of your life. In sum, visit it. If only to shake off the severe bathetic emptiness of Brest.

Thank you for this video about the city where I live, i agree with what you say... But here in Brittany the best thing is to get lost in the "monts d'arrée" or on the seaside (like the beach of "Crozon" accessible only by boat) and also forests like "huelgoat". In my case, day by day I still discover beautiful landscapes in my region... (If you want to know more about Britanny).. Here most of the people hate France, its politics and government. Before 1532 Brittany was a country with its own culture (Celtic like Ireland). We have our own language / traditions / music / food / mentality and a very developed agriculture / fishing but unfortunatly with the French government all of that disappears with time, sad.
Otherwise, if you want good crepes with an authentic Brittany decor, the best is "Au Vieux Quimper". (sorry for my bad English, by the way)

I can tell you that the people from brittany do not hate the french , as you pretend , since they are themselves french .
You must be one of those , fortunatly rare " breton " who has to blame the french republic for all the ills of the world .
La Bretagne has been a province of France since the end of the middle ages , please get over with it .

Kemper is not an "old french city". It's an ancient Breton city..
Your way of spelling Kemper, Odet (Odais sic) river is very "parisian" and doesn't reflect the locals spelling.
