    Russo-Turkish War started as a consequence of the Serbo-Turkish Wars, namely the Herzegovina and Bosnia uprising, known also as the "Third Serbian Uprising", or the "Rifle of Nevesinje", following which, the Serbian principalities Montenegro and Serbia would join the War against the Turks and win their Independence and International recognition. Russia would join the War, aiding mostly Bulgarian rebels and Romania, aiming to liberate all Balkan peoples (Greeks, Serbs, Bulgarians and Romanians) from the Ottomans and gain access to the Mediterranean. But, of course, like always, Orthodox Christians got backstabbed by Britain and Austria.

    Ottomans were a weak force and an empire only in name after 18th century ended. Thanks to other Europeans who wanted to balance the power we were saved from the Russian bulldozer. But also note that population in Europe skyrocketed while Ottoman population stayed at same level for centuries and significantly decreased in their last years. First they fell behind in quality, then quantity. So they had low chance against the big and qualified European armies after 18th century. Some people claim Ottomans were weak in late 17th century, but reality is they could at least withstand a big European coalition. They didn't spiral out of control like in this battle. (I'm Turkish)

    • @dominikfraaanjuan
      @dominikfraaanjuan 3 года назад +8

      @daniel halachev no, realistically since the Treaty of San Stefano is really harsh for the Turks, the British would not accept it and the tension between Russia and Britain would be too high it might led to a weird WW1 Scenario, considering it would be France and Russia against Britain, German and Austria-Hungary.
      Also it is not that they did not signed the Treaty of San Stefano, they signed it but the British found the Russian Influence in the Balkan unacceptable, and thus Britain together with other European power(such as the newly formed German Empire) forced Russia to sign the Treaty of Berlin and the San Stefano treaty was declared null and void.

    @piotrsieminski 3 года назад +50

    To all who blame Britain only, this is how the concert of powers was played. One power could win the war against other weaker nations, but couldn't get all of it. Austria took Bosnia, Britain took Cyprus, Russia took Kars and created small Bulgaria, Bismarck was happy to be an honest broker in his eyes and even said "we are not here to deal with happiness of Bulgars but to stabilize our interests". Nevertheless, 1878 was the end of the Russo-Prussian friendship made up in the early 1700s, the essential one that put Poland into a grave and subdued Central Europe into control of Berlin or Moscow. To all Balkan Slavic nations and Greeks Russia is a liberator, but the fact is that the intervention of powers rescued them from the fate of being vassals of Russia. Ask Poles or Georgians what it really means that big bear's hug.

    The Ottoman Empire was just a shadow of itself in the past at that time.The Ottomans were gradually losing their power in the Balkan region because of many wars with Russia and controversial and conservative politics of its government.Nobody doubted that one day the country would either dissolve as well as many empires had done before it or become a well-manipulated satellite of the eternal forces.Nevertheless, I still can't forgive the British government for what they did to prevent Russia from further advancing to the South and conquering Istanbul.Great Britain was just twiddling its thumbs meanwhile the Russians were fighting the enemies along with their allies to get the final victory.That's totally unfair!Despite the Russian Empire acquired some territories from the Ottoman Empire, Istanbul remained a Turkish city.Therefore,the target wasn't completely achieved!

      dreyrugr The only ones who suggested and did annihilating ethnic populations were the turks themselves.

      Theron Rodis Yes, but taking the action you suggest could've led to even worse outcomes.

      That's impossible to happen.
      Sooner or later, slaves and occupied countries will ALWAYS take up guns against their rulers.
      The only debatable thing is "TIME".
      1600? 1650? 1700? 1821? 1912? 2000?
      Doesn't matter...Eventually it will ALWAYS happen.
      The only way for ottomans to keep these lands FOR EVER is to kill every single last armenian, bulgarian, serb, and greek.
      Now if a rival empire completly ethnic cleanse all these, how do u think the rest of the world will react?
      Trust me things went pretty well for everyone in my opinion.
      There were like 10 times worse outcomes.

    You should have mentioned the bulgarian uprising in 1876 which is the main reason for the war.

    Wow, if it werent for the English, Russia would dominate the Black Sea and the Balkans, maybe even greece could have dominated Istanbul/Constantinople.
    Also, if I see any people saying " OI, GREECE IS WEAK THE TURKS ARE BETTER AND STRONGER IN ANY WAY JABSHSNSAUIAJAN" or any of the lines of that, you should remember that this is just a comment from a guy whos thinking about stuffs. Dont start a 3rd Balkan War on the replies, I dont mean to annoy or disrespect. Please take my comment with a grain of salt.
