wow amazing insight & first hand account of the culture clash between pioneers & natives. Pa's diplomacy in giving natives the benefit of the doubt & treating them kindly may have been what saved the settlers lives as it was Osage who frequented their home. If only more had the courage to act similarly & the patience to attempt communication there may have been a very differnt outcome. In the end I dont think a hunter gather culture could have coexisted long with an agricultural one as most squirmishes were territorial and over settlers disrupting their hunting grounds & migrations with fences & farms. Im sure it wasnt handled well by the fledgling government. So much detailed history & didnt notice or appreciate when reading this series as a child

I have never been bored with these books. I read them as a child when I could get them away from my mom. Then I had to compete with my dad. I read all the Zane Grey by the time I was 14. It really wasn't appropriate but Mom said as long as she reading she's learning something. I read everything. Even to this day. Lol
