It’s refreshing seeing a company do their own thing with a tablet and not just try to make an iPad under a different name. Well done by Google.

Thanks for mentioning the battery charging situation - I had concerns over whether perma-docking it would destroy that thing!

Great video! I like that you touched on all the important points. My only critique would be needing to show the front facing camera in action on a video call. I would love to see how it looks in Google Meet since I’d rarely use it to take pics.

Maybe I’m just a speech recognition enthusiast but what makes this interesting to me, is the google assistant voice typing on the tensor 2. That level of voice typing on a big screen could be great.

I came across the idea of getting this for my kids. Started in the living room and they would share it..and it worked so well that I got another one and now both my boys have one in there room. (They keep their old tablets in the car now and use the Pixel tablets primarily in the house). I truly love the docks. I didn't give them cable chargers, so when the tablet's dying..that means they have to give it a break and charge it. At night I walk in a cast something to the TV from it, and dock it for them and it wakes them up in the morning for me and turns their lamps on bright with the Google Clock / Home integration. I'm too satisfied and I feel like it was a great investment to ease my life

This most likely going to be my next tablet just because of the dock features. I'm definitely never going to use a tablet to take pictures no matter what kind of tablet it it is lol😅

Thought the same thing. Why would you pull out a VCR or a plate to take a picture when you have a hand sized computer with an awesome camera right in your pocket or bag or next to you somewhere?

i love this idea, fits a real need in my life, probably an instant purchase.
that said, my echo show 8 for example "knows" by it's camera if youre in front of it, and the rest of the time dims the screen preventing it from wearing out. does this thing have anything similar i wonder? i'd hate for the screen to be on full blaze in the kitchen when it's just showing a clock for ten hours overnight or whatever. i'm gonna assume google isnt that dumb.
i even love that one of our wallpaper choices is a full screen clock or weather. one of the stupidest things when i first got my echo show was no always on full screen clock option (first thing I thought was, I'll make this just a clock for the wallpaper, nope!), since amazon wants to force you to use the "slides" system so they can sell shit and just generally annoy you. admittedly the clock on the echo will always be present somewhere just not fullscreen, but still.
but yeah, i cant sell my samsung s7 fast enough and grab this. i've been trying to use my s7 as a laptop replacement and honestly, it's garbage imo. surprised how much i miss my windows laptop. this cant be worse in that role (even without crappy dex) and the good part is it will always be charged since I'll just dock it when not in use!
it would be nice if you could just use the speaker as a dumb bt speaker too though. but either way i'm instantly in love with this concept. the echo shows are GARBAGE as plugged in tablets. i forsee everybody else copying this and quickly.

there are some things, that should be changed on the dock:
    1. power conector is not usb-c in 2023? come on!
    2. moving chromecast to the dock to allow play sound while you hold your tablet in the hand would be great step up. especially while you mention tablet's speakers quality

    1) No brightness control for Hub Ambient Mode.
    2) No Start Sound after saying "OK Google"
    3) MANY of Googles own apps think this is a phone, and are not customized for a tablet at all.
    4) No way (no obvious way) to immediately start Hub Mode when docking.
    5) When off the dock, going into the Google Home App, the tablet reports itself as offline, even though it is obviously online.
Don't get me wrong, it's "ok," But I feel it was rushed out the door before being 100% ready.

I wanted this tablet, but one point that bugs me…I currently have 2 google home hub’s and a google hub max…if I replace my hub in my bedroom with this tablet and am using it downstairs and want to use the “broadcast” feature to call down my daughter who loves to watch tv in our bedroom, I would no longer be able to do this as the dock has zero functionality with the tablet taken off….so sadly I’d have to get either a mini speaker or keep my hub AND the tablet both on my nightstand…neither option sounds appealing enough for me to pull the trigger on the tablet

Missed opportunity by Google, the included speaker dock should have been able to be used as home speaker Also, I have a nest home hub mini, on my bedside table, that device has been pretty fantastic and still works flawlessly, what I would have done a lot with the Pixel Tablet if I did indeed indeed buy it, would be my partner using it with her Pixel Buds, with the Pixel Tablet, and I would have like to stream audio from say Spotify to the included speaker dock, that's not possible and is a Huge design flaw, the dock is useless unless it's docked with the Pixel Tablet,😮

It looks like a tablet made for kids. So small, and plasticky... I'll stick to my galaxy tab 8+ for films and series (and obviously music since it's a powerhouse for loud speakers!). Also, Google needs to find distribution for Nordics. We consume phones and tablets like crazy lol. Pixel phones do not work in 5G networks here, and they're difficult to get.

Android has become booring Android big screen platforms if they want to succeed genuinely they have to provide proper desktop class experience in ui and apps
They have to convince developers to make a desktop class app for Android laptops/tablets to get that desktop class ui and functionality and desktop class nuances for Android laptops/tablets also need to convince developers to port desktop games for Android tablets to stay in long run because just relying on Google to this won't suffice because Google with all the resources couldn't make Android desktop class as of now and even couldn't make chrome os desktop class functionality and performance as of now so
They really have to work on the os experience and app developers to make a well performing polished desktop class apps and games for Android
I hope they will do it in future
Others wise these handheld big screen tablets will be used at stores shops and malls counter for billing calculator other wise no use of that latest soc and big screen
