No disrespect James, but considering your a butcher to trade, you’ve done a real professional job building this amazing Koi pond all by yourself, with some help when you’ve needed it, you’ve put a hell of a lot of thought 💭 and planning into it, with attention to detail, and it shows.
You seen it in your head how it’ll look 👀 and you’ve achieved it. 👍

James its looking amazing 👏.... there's so many people that have been on this pond building journey with you and have felt the excitement and frustrations you've encountered... Mrs Whisperer must have the patience of a Saint.. keep it up you're almost there..
James put all the pipe work in now to the 4” T and put a bung end in where the over pump will go it will save a lot of work later. All you have to do is take out the bung end and connect the pump straight on.
James , you've done an absolutely awesome job . One of the very best , which will inspire others to have a try . But I can tell that the way your struggling to get your filters in a tight space is bugging you . Before you crack on , is there no way you could exchange it with the dealer for something of a better fit . Maybe a combi unit or a bespoke bio unit . Or maybe once it's running it won't be an issue and won't bother you . Just want you to be totally happy with your dream pond and not regret anything later 👍❤️

Not gonna lie, following the progression of this pond so far, I'm amazed. The quality fo the work you've done is incredible. And it's inspiring me to do it eventually, when I get my own house. Only thing I want to do slightly different from yourself is a larger viewing window on both sides. Keep up the quality videos, look forward to seeing the fish go in and the pond filled :)
Yup James lad, you have officially made me jealous lol 😆 because you have created a koi pond that is fantastic in every way and done proper to the superlative degree. You have shown that a mere pipe dream ( no pun intended ), can with determination and good planning can become an eye popping reality, you definitely reap what you sow kid and it shows. That said you can have many appy appy days with a pond set up that looks the ammer and ye can than ye mother for the pumps 😁

That solvent weld frightens me to death. One mistake and a leak getting it apart again to fix it my God what a nightmare. You’ll sort it mate. Measure 600 times, glue once and be fast about it!

Why not put the sockets for your air pumps in betweeNnthe shelves behind the pumps? Or lower the shelves to achieve the same? I have found that using the solvent weld flexible pipe saves having bends, like the pipe from your pump to the drum, looking good so far, have'nt seen your stuff for a while as my FB account was hacked and I had loads of trouble getting back on. James your doing very well but I would still open the door outward and keep all the filtration on the pond wall with the boiler on the wall where the air pumps are it would give you a lot more room and access to service the boiler.
unions don't leak as long as you use PTFE tape on the threads of the pump and a good amount of tape to, mine have been on my pond for 17 years with the same o rings, just not enough tape on the threads would be an issue.

Looks good but think you might run the Bakki pump dry if your hoping to pull 30000 lph thro 2 inch with that many bends
Morning James great vids fella I have a question as you are also a carp fisherman….would or could you feed fishing bates to koi as a treat as it appears that a lot of them have ingredients better than some koi foods?
I’ve got the Charles Austen air pump not sure if you will have the same problem as me but the plastic on top of the pump vibrates quite bad so had to put a elastic band around to stop it, hope that helps
Meant to ask on an earlier video. What put you off getting the Burton combi unit and going down the separate unit route? Rebuilding my pond next year or maybe over winter. Want to hide filter if I can, so interested in saving space.

I love that part of the build, but being a pipefitter it comes a bit more naturally...
if the unions thread went on the pump a bit too easy (parallel not taper threads) I used loctite 55 PTFE string.
It makes a much tighter fit, just don't use too much, a few wraps of locktite 55 with PTFE tape on top.

There's a lot of solvent joints there to glue up James, here's a small tip put a red dot on each joint as you glue them, that way you will see straight away if any have been missed when you check before filling, wish I had lol.

Looking good 👍 Think about ball valves both sides of pumps for ease of maintenance. You could put the 4" pipe in now and blank one off or more ball valves (sorry I know it's more money).
The pipework looks beautiful but it is at a cost spotted you could reduce extra turns and use a couple of 45° instead of 90° which would be better for the pump, but might not look as nice as you like horizontal and vertical pipes 😁
your lamp is flickering because its 50 Hz ;) means light shots per second your eyes see 24 images a second ;)

Looking really good james I can totally understand how your feeling in that filter house mate in the tight space I had the same problem in my filter house I also done other jobs in the garden and kept putting it off for rainy days 😆
As for the unions on the pumps use gas ptfe tape on the threads mate been there got the leaks then used gas tape problem solved. Z hammer 🔨

James I gave up using pump unions and now use rubber boots never had a problem doing it bud

Use Fernox Jointing Compound from Screwfix. Just put it on the male thread, no need to put it on the female half. Best sealant going, never let me down and I’ve been plumbing for years.

Just use plenty of ptfe tape and then some more on the pump unions and it will be fine 💯.
I'm not sure what model drum you have bud (forgive me if I'm wrong as i can't really see) but the skimmer line and bottom drain lines all go into the same side of the drum (waste chute side). I looks like you have it the other way around.

Mine has 6 inlets mate 3 at front and 3 at back and 4 outlets

Hiya james would a ball valve before the T that feeds the pumps be a good idea and bung up one end before you get another pump set up? That way any problems or maintenance to the pumps. Would stop you losing a lot of water. And a ball valve after the pumps incase you had to change one. Just thinking ahead. 👍🏻 but your doing a good job. 👍🏻
James dont forget the plastic fittings are smaller than the rubber ones so your pipes may be a tad short if are swapping them out

I no what you mean with the pipe work mate. I have been building my koi pond. I have Enjoyed building the pond. But what a ball ache it has been, took me bloody ages with the pipe work, hated doing it. But your doing a cracking job has always 👍
Boom 💥1st, advice is run the rubber boots straight onto the pumps, obviously ptfe the tread on the pump but that will not leak, better than the screw fittings!

Your doing a great job bro, I do plumbing and heating for a living and your pipework is good, your doing the right thing taking your time, enjoy it 😆😆 I'm watching your progress wishing I could.start again, looking to relocate some where near barnstable in the next 2 years so I may have to do it all again... can't wait to see it all running, if the union thread is bottoming out onto the pump, taper the ptfe tape it gets thincker towards the back, that way you make sure your on with a good couple turns of thread as plastic threads are easy to cross if it's packed out with ptfe near the start. Why cut plug off air pumps and drill holes, you can cut a piece out the back of shelf and push cable down there. 👍

Howya pal came home today' to find one of me favourite sanke moping in the corner upright managed to net him and his mouth is in bits the lily pots are tore to shreds gravel is everywhere he's in a salt bat for now can I use the carp card mouth treatment?

James i wunt of bothered with rubber boots there a nightmare pal , I'm running an 100 litre air pump on one bottom drain don't seem that powerfull bro , I think my pipe is too small but that filter house is banging u must be 15 k in now iv done my pond with wood 12 by 6 got loads of regrets lol

Your electric bill will be mahoosive
PTFE on unions, never had a problem.
Best taking your time, you don’t want to do all that work and fook it up at the last step.
So easily done when project fatigue sets in, you’ll be rite though 👍🏻
Love your work mate. However, I can’t keep track of all your pipe connections from where to where. Can you diagram your work in a pdf file for us? I have no idea what function are for each of your pipes

why gas boiler and not a heat pump ?
Gas is cheaper over the year
Heat pumps are noisy and not very effective in colder weather
Did you have a look at Wrightys channel and his heat pump installation? Only costing about £1 per day during winter . Located outside , too and can plug straight into a socket 👍

led lights flash on and off eyes cant catch it but cameras can .You lost space with unions going into the first unit with the rubber pipe to 4inch weld then the rubber pipe to the burton

You mentioned that you wont run the bottom drain air 24/7. You really need to run it 24/7. Air is critical to koi health and growth. Its probably just as important as filtration especially during the summer months.
In your opinion.....many of us use it on a timer and have no issues. It depends on the setup seeing as everyone's pond is different.
